This article is basically if Jim criticizes WWE he’s right , but if he criticizes AEW he’s wrong .
I agree with you 💯 %,There are companies competing for business and if one of the companies can prove they are better they will get more business if the product is better. Wwe is bad but AEW Is worst. At least Wwe has a comprehensive training system, AEW DOESN'T they constantly parade indi wrestlers which aren't good to begin with and looks like they went to wrestling school just to learn how to fall and then said I'm ready for the big time. Screw learning to work, psychology, hitting the gym, learning the business, etc.
He shits on AEW more then the WWE dont know how anyone can debate that.
@@flyguy7825 he shits on both and has proved overtime that anything WWE gets more views for the channel, which would mean more monetary gain, but they don't fucking watch or review it except the PPVs when they do abysmal shit worth talking about or if a match happens to be good, cause they don't want to be subject to how fucking atrocious it is on a weekly basis.
JC critizes stupid and phont shit, regardless of what company it is from.
@Jeff You can read right?I said he shits on AEW more than the WWE I never said he never shits on the WWE.Dude you’re going on Wikipedia for peoples measurements dude all of that is made up make believe people have said in the past don’t go on Wikipedia for someone’s height and weight because nine times out of 10 it’s going to be the shit that they made up for the wrestling characters.

They were doing high spots in matches, not high spots INSTEAD OF matches. Well said.
So if you were watching 2 great wrestlers today and the big "highspot" was a hip toss and dropkick combo you would pop. Those wrestlers would get booed out of the arena
@@travissmith6380 you have no clue how the crowd would react, if their psychology throughout the match had been great, then yes the stadium would pop. If it was bad psychology no one would boo they be silent, because they wouldn’t care.
@@travissmith6380 I think a better example of what he means is: Vader does 1 moonsault in a match = good use of a high spot. Vader does 6 moonsaults during a match = kills the spot.
@@travissmith6380 The issue is the lack of restraint nowadays, if all you do is incredible feats of athleticism, then these feats don’t stand out anymore. After the 10th destroyer off the top rope you won’t excite anybody anymore and you won’t get a reaction. And then how do you top that the next time, to get a pop?

Because he has 😂
In my opinion, Jim Cornette is the smartest wrestling pschologist. He knows how to do moves and when to do them. He knows how to make an idea work, how to engage the audience. In a different life, he would’ve been the greatest Hollywood director or screenwriter.
I wish more wrestlers and promoters would listen to him, and actually learn something. But the problem is, with wrestling as with the world in general, everybody believe they know everything and are not able to admit that they make mistakes and need advice.
I like how he doesn't critique without providing a better alternative. He definitely knows his stuff.
I've often pictured him as Quentin Tarrintino by mistake while watching his movies.
Giving advice is a very human trait. Unfortunately, taking it isn't.
How many promotions has Cornette worked for throughout his career?
I disagree. His views were great for that time period, but now they are very outdated. It worked in 1980 because there was nothing else to do with your time.
Today nobody wants to see this kind of product anymore, especially in a world with soo many alternatives. There are too many other ways to spend your time, like RUclips, Netflix, Twitch, Podcasts, Video games etc.. Also with MMA existing, i doubt many people want to watch men in their underwear pretending to fight, when you can see the real thing in MMA.
Wrestling can still be successful today, but not the style of wrestling Jim Cornette would like.
Brian was about to go OFF on Jim in that promo. 😭😭😭
Brian Last sees himself as a babyface so had been waiting to cut a promo on JC for a while
@Boo boo stained Dunn ta dunn HES a food face
I don't think the mark that wrote that article understands that the things he's bringing up are what has driven millions of wrestling fans off.
Anders! Good to see you're still around.
Seems as if he’s more focused on the fans they currently have instead of observing the ones that left
Boom! That's what I've been thinking this whole time.
These people don't want to accept the truth. They would rather close their eyes and cover their ears whilst screaming "KENNY OMEGA IS THE BIGGEST DRAW EVER" over and over again
"It's not about the size, it's about the visual and the appereance"
"The more flipping these idiots do, the faker it looks"
Cornette gets it.
The more you have to do in the ring to get over, the harder it's going to be next time
High spots have more of an impact when they're used sparingly.
And they know how to execute said move without botching it.

I love AEW and enjoy it a lot. But I'll be stupid if I didn't see the flaws in their booking which there are numerous (biggest one being Cody Rhodes's booking). I agree with a lot of things Cornette says but not everything. His genuine critiques are on point. I just ignore when he reviews stuff based on his biases. e.g Omega, Sasha vs Bianca at Mania, Ethan Page etc.
Probably by whining and crying. They can't handle any criticism. Not counting the fellow who commented before me, his opinion makes sense.
I also don't agree with everything he says, but that's normal, you can't always be on the same page. Also everybody is biased to a certain degree. @@arnavbhagwat4232 Yeah but a vision to revive it is to make it look realistic and make the casual fan question themselves whether a segment and try to define the network expectations as an outlier.
To make it successful, Vince Russo and Corny should just squash the beef. The sex line regarding Omega should be a thing already as a weekly comedy spot and end the weekly segments with Big Dick Johnson (from the 2006 DX run) doing something in the background.
@@Shawn6751 I don't think that vision will ever come true, because wrestlers these days don't seem to care. If anything, all that's left for the wrestling business to do now is to die out, and just erase it from history as if it never even became a thing.

@Kwame brown and Jim cornette burner account yes, look at the aewbotches account on twitter its there
Jim has said this many times before. A wrestling match needs to tell a story. A match should have peaks and valleys, moments of lulls and highs. If everything is full stop from bell to bell, there is no build-up. If there is nothing but high spots, where does end? Jump off the top rope? Jump off their partner? Jump off the cage? The high spots are getting more and more dangerous just to get that highlight moment.

Corny LOVED walter vs dragunov. And he was not the only one. Everybody in the industry was fawning over it BECAUSE THIS IS HOW THE EVOLUTION OF WRESTLING SHOULD BE.

Cornette would agree that too but when Bobby Heenan cut a vicious heel promo he would generate nuclear heat which no one in today's wrestling can have
Agreed
Jim is right on high spots, Mysterio is one of the greatest high flyers, most of his matches were fought on the map, using grapples and holds as well as kicks, his high spot was the 619 which he would use usually once a match, so Jim is right.
This video is a main reason why Jim Cornette is one of the greatest wrestling managers of all time. Someone who takes pride in what they do for a living.
You know it’s fake right? If it was real a 125 pound amateur would take anyone in the rock and roll express and put them in a pretzel in maybe 10 seconds. These are not the catch as catch can wrestlers. They are fake 80s wrestlers. They are not a Thesz or a Gotch or a Hodge or a Robinson. The 80’s pro wrestlers are as real as todays pro wrestlers.

When you take someone's offensive moves you should make people say oh shit that had to hurt
Kurt angle was the perfect kind of comedy wrestler in a sense. His character wasn't always a goofball but when it was hid character was genuinely funny, yet even though was technically still green at the time, he knew too always be dead serious in a match
He had a little bit of the Bobby Heenan personality. He could be humorous but insulting at the same time. It was also the combination of the fact that he was a legit badass playing a chickenshit heel. Everything just balanced out.
The big thing is that Kurt Angle acted like he was taking it seriously. Even when he acted goofy, it didn't feel like he was in on the joke. It was funny because he was being humiliated to the crowd who wanted to see the smug prick get what was coming to him. Kurt acting like he believed his shtick is a big part of why it worked. If he just winked and nodded at the camera then it would have sucked.

True
To be honest, I don't mind him being a wrestler. He's just a product of his time. But he should be a jobber. He should be a guy winning the 24/7 belt in wwe. He can get wins here and there in an actual match, but he shouldn't be going over 10 minutes with Kenny omega.

He pisses about io shirai also too much ,he bashes miz saying does nothing but he has given so many great promos
Jim is totally right about high spots, small wrestlers, and rest holds.
He has substance to his points, but it's not like there is answer there. Promotions need to stay on tv, and audiences like jacked roid addicts, but they're not going to hold audience using the pace of the 1980's matches, because 1980's crowds thought pro wrestling is real...They even have pejorative name for customers...marks...That's not healthy business philosophy to deceive...and it's not needed because enough audience respects athleticism, if you don't alienate them...but there's civil war in the industry because it's art, NOT science...In story telling

Rest holds still exist, they're just during commercials.
Something Wrestlemania did right is that I think there might have been only 2 or 3 maximum finishers in 3 matches or something, everything else was 1 finisher and it was over, it was a breath of fresh air knowing it's not another 2.9 counts because the first 2 finishers don't matter anymore
I’d love to see Jim start a new company in 2023. I know he probably wants to get away from the business. But I would love for him to take complete booking control of a company. Would definitely lure guys like FTR over and they would actually be used properly.

Rest holds are useful not just for... resting, but as a way to get in close and communicate something a little more elaborate to your opponent.

He's made me....mad now
Jim Just explained AEW style wrestling about the High Spots 🤷
Am I the only one who thinks of Beaula Ballbreaker from Porky's when I hear the word "Tallywhacker"?😂😂😂
32:18 😂😂😂 "Alright, you four eyed fuck!" Brain was ready with that one.
Goddamn writer of that piece is the markest of marks.
Most likely an aew stan/puro hipster
I really want to hear the rest of Brian's promo lol
he went right at cornette's defect
I really want Brian to finish that promo...
"Alright you four-eyed fuck!" I choked on my coffee laughing...
To this day i still dont understand why Jim calls Asuka a high spot wrestler 🤷, cause she isnt.
Yeah I think Riho is killing Jim's ability to be fair to asian women wrestlers.
@@supergluehotty actually that's Jim's in built prejudice to a) women's wrestling and b)anything coming from a country that isn't USA
@Kwame brown and Jim cornette burner account ehhh
@Kwame brown and Jim cornette burner account I think that's more on deeb than riho. The first match I saw with riho yuka Nagasaki and nyla Rose was bad, and her greeness shows even against Nagasaki.
Jim is mostly a good person.
But he is backwards when it comes to non-Americans and women.
Everything he said is true. He's actually quite good at arguing his points on this one.
It's like his comments on the high spots, it's the impact each move has, not whether or not you can string so many together in a row.
When AEW does stuff like that it undermines their product. It looks more like a scripted cheerleading routine than a wrestling match. If those moves were spread out and had an impact, if they were actually sold, I bet Jim wouldn't mind.
All of his arguments are grounded in one basic argument. Believability. Everyone sitting at home knows that the outcomes are predetermined. Even when I was a little kid I knew. My dad tried to hide it but I told him it was "fake" (kid me).
We all know but the point is we want to suspend our disbelief. How can I do that during a Bucks match where they're doing a cheerleading routine? Or a match where Marco Stunt wins against an actual wrestler?
I normally don't comment on these videos but imo Jim killed it here. I don't always agree with Jim but he nailed it. Pretty damn good for an on the fly take too imo.
Lmao at Brian about to cut a promo on Jim 🤣🤣
How they both destroy this article is literally why I left the AEW official fan site because every response and opinion where in the vain of this article; most responses and so called opinions I got from the most fanatic of fans there are as baseless, non sensical, no proof or elaboration to any statement they make (I literally think they don't know the difference between an opinion and a statement) and really makes you question if they fully grasp what they are saying or have actually watch wrestling.
Most of them are really ignorant about wrestling, which is disheartening tbqh considering THESE are the "modern wrestling fans" the article is talking about.
@@renatocontrerasflores294 I feel like they haven’t watch wrestling at all … like I have even asked them what wrestling is to them or to elaborate on their points… the answers vary from no answer to it is impossible to define to insults.
Damn these AEW marks are definitely goofballs
I would've stopped reading the article after the intro.
On the "public experiences" thing, Al Snow does a good beginner class where he talks about why the closed fist punch is banned in wrestling and so is often used sparingly or for fire-up spots: because most of that crowd don't know what taking a slam, a suplex or a figure four leg lock feels like... but a lot of them know what being punched in the face feels like, so seeing dozens of worked punches that don't leave a mark and don't have any effect would just ruin suspension of disbelief.
"Alright you four-eyed fuck!" Brian 😆
Damn Brian was gonna go off on Jim 32:10 :DDD
Mr Tallywacker 🤣🤣🤣
Brian you got a minute and a half. Sell him some tickets. Classic part.
Oh man, that artwork of Jim as a broken clock is hilarious. Those artworks never get old.
