In fairness, a lot of people have compared Cody to Triple H and it hasn't always been complementary.

@@loggerbombI don’t agree with a lot of what Jim says, but he covered before what makes Mysterio different over the smaller members of the AEW roster. Rey Mysterio has great in ring psychology that helps in instances like this. He’s great at selling for larger opponents and his offense looks like it has purpose. He’s not unnecessarily doing flips for the sake of it. He’s not like Matt Jackson who’s selling like he’s Andre for a guy significantly taller like Mox or something.

I never got the appeal of Dave Meltzer. He's one of the reasons why wrestling is in the bad shape it's in today, and I'm glad some people are waking up and starting to see Meltzer for the hack that he is.

Exactly! I call his effect on wrestling the "Dave Meltzerization" of wrestling. Much of what we dislike about wrestling (the spotfests, worship of "workrate", very little if any psychology that actually makes sense) is a direct result of Meltzer's influence and his followers who have completely taken over. The choice is either Dave Meltzerized wrestling or WWE style sports entertainment which both suck.
When I became a smart fan 20 years ago, a "spotfest" was the complete opposite of "workrate". People like Benoit or Angle had "workrate". The spotfests were for the casual fans that wanted Jeff Hardy or Rey. These days the positions have switched. The casual fans want to see grown adult men that can make you believe it's a fight and the smarts want to see gymnastics.

In the Orten feud he had some intensity in his Avenger Role, but when I think of Wrestlers that are intimidating despite their apperance I would probably think of Minoru Suzuki first. He is like 50ish and already has somewhat of a dad body, but he still gives off the vibe that he can snap an opponents neck whenever he wants.

I will say that WWE, as usual, is missing out on one thing. While they have done a great job building up Reigns as the bad guy, they also have to simultaeneously build a babyface. There is no proper opposition to Roman right now, they spent the entire last year absolutely burying Kevin Owens, if he had won a few pay-per-views, there would have been a both a strong good guy, and a bad guy to root for.

People kill me with the argument of "There is more than one type of ring psychology". I ask them to explain and the answer is also always the same: "It's not always about isolating a body part". They won't admit that they just like the flashy moves. It's okay to do so, but it's not 'psychology' it's physicality.
There is more than on type of in ring psychology. It could be maybe one wrestler can’t hit his big finishing move and everyone knows if he does he will win etc. There are plenty of ways to tell a story but none of them involve doing flips and no selling

Ring psychology is not a body part. It’s about establishing a believable narrative within the match. Flashy moves can figure into that, but that involves setting up a reason to be doing them.

Again, we need to be talking about Okada a HELL of lot more than we should EVER talk about Omega again. Okada did such a great job getting Kenny over that yutz’s like Meltzer were convinced that he was big time.
Kenny’s never come close to what he achieved with Okada, whereas Okada has made that magic many times before and a few times since.
Could we ever get a watch along with Okada and Tanahashi? Their match at Dontaku in 2017 was a beauty. Would love Jim and Brian’s take on that match. Okada vs Naito from 2020’s WrestleKingdom is also a nice one.
Okada is incredible, he is a superstar in his home country, but Corny doesn't watch japanese wrestling so he won't be a star in his eyes.
It's why he's the GOAT, he made that run what it was and the chase was good but then afterwards just kinda flopped because you could have easily had Okada hold it for another year and people would still be down for it

Omega never struck me as one of the best wrestlers in the world today. He’s a Cruiserweight or Intercontinental Champ in WWE at best. Reigns is above and beyond Omega. Yes people hated Reigns as a face but the man can go. He’s amazing in the ring. Turning heel was the best thing he did.
