Imagine being a professional wrestler and actually trying to specifically impress Dave Meltzer lmao. Insane!
While I agree with more of what Cornette says, Meltzer still has more stroke with modern day wrestling media. Corny has radicalized his viewpoints so much, from Becky Lynch pregnancy comments to Murdoch Ethiopia chicken joke. I’d rather impress Meltzer in today’s wrestling world rather than impress Cornette. Meltzer’s opinion is more palatable.

Jim is right about this, people moan that he's not in WWE or NWA or AEW or ROH etc, yet when he DOES get there, they want him gone, it's a two sided coin deal.
The people who complain about him not being there are not, for the most part, not the people who complain about him when he is there.
Personally, I enjoy his podcast content, but at this I'd rather he just stay in his corner and leave the modern wrestlers and promotions he doesn't like to do their own thing. Honestly not all in with Cornette on this latest controversy, but ironic Dave’s knocking Corny as being too negative when he’s doing shows with Alvarez. Particularly on WWE stuff, the guy is just negative for negative’s sake and a lot of times his criticisms don’t even make sense to me. At Cornette’s worst, the analysis is so grounded in logic that you can at least respect the opinion.
Dave Meltzer is an advanced mark who gets other marks to pay him for opinions.

Jim Cornette is the best single individual to explain wrestling psychology. I would say Al Snow is second. His explanation of the Revival vs. Undisputed Era match is a masters class on pacing a match.

I relished every second of this part of the podcast when I listened. Dave's efforts to defend people he knows deep down are trash has seriously damaged his credibility.
That and the fact that he just reports his opinions and what he's told instead of actually being a journalist and trying to source every side possible and I just can't take him seriously anymore.
His opinion is his opinion, that being said Meltzer has been very hyperbolic in certain statements especially his reviews. I think his journalism is more gossip column then actual substance at this point.
Though I still respect his overall body of work and I still respect the majority of his opinion.
Too bad there's a lot of people that take his opinions as fact or can't tell the difference between the two
What he does is essentially tabloid journalism. That's not perfect, but it's really the only way that you can report on what is still essentially a pretty closed industry.
If he applied a more rigorous standard of journalism, he probably wouldn't be able to report much of anything and the only source of info we'd have would be the official lines from the promotions themselves. (which are often even less accurate for obvious reasons.

He's a wrestling journalist, how in the blue fuck could you be anything but a tabloidesque reporter? So what, he reports facts and his opinion, name one person in wrestling who is a credible, objective, unbiased journalist who isn't a sensationalist?

Dave Meltzer has always been “worked by the boys”. They used to work him by giving him “inside” info to get their version of a story out there. If they had a vendetta or agenda. You befriend and use Dave to drive forth your agenda. Nowadays, Meltzer is being worked to be a fan boy for cosplay wrestlers who appeal to cosplay fans.

Journalists, outside of wrestling, try to contact the person(s) that their news stories are about to get their side. Somehow wrestling fans think it's acceptable journalism for Dave NOT to do this. the Bucks starting the Meltzer driver and giving him all that press made him into a star to this generation of fans. Meltzer then became addicted to all the attention, now he's stuck pandering to both those wrestlers and those fans and has obliterated his credibility in the process. Maybe those guys gave him a type of acceptance and acknowledgement that he always longed for. now that he has it, nothing else matters except keeping that acceptance intact. Comparing Marco Stunt to Rey Mysterio...there's just no returning from saying something like that, at least for me...unless it comes out that he has a brain tumor or something.
Agreed on the Mysterio stunt comparison; it's tenuous at best but aside from.in ring agility there are no shared traits between the two. That said, I've seen a lot of people exclaim he's the worst thing in wrestling, his career is worth nothing, he's a leech etc. The fact is he's an opinionated reporter in an ego centric industry who now has in ring publicity and it may have went to his head, and it seems to have biased his views on particular talent or promotions, nothing more and nothing less

Jim hit the nail in the head as to why AEW may fizzle and die is that it’s full of false finishes and NO ONE SELLS!!!!! It’s crazy the damage the talent takes unnecessarily, and are more concerned about going through moves then they are about telling a story in the ring.

Those are the closest to what he wants, but even those aren't 100% in keeping with what he wants, and it seems obvious that even one thing he considers out of line is enough to set him off.
I'm not saying he can't have his views, just that it's probably best for everyone if both sides stay in their own lane.

Fact is the wrestling Cornette wants doesn't exist anymore: kayfabe is dead and buried, wrestling has evolved beyond collar and elbow, and people don't see ladder matches as an extreme feud blow off match. Cornettes kind of wrestling is now a niche within a niche
I would agree that his type of wrestling would not be for the average, passing fan, but I believe the overall picture of that vision could get over. I understand kayfabe is gone, but could they just get back to the basics of selling moves. I mean you get elbow dropped from the top rope. The guy goes to do it again and they pop up like a rabbit, sprint across the ring, to sling him from the top rope like you took no damage. Kayfabe or not can we not play things out and just sell.
