This thing is amazing and we absolutely love it. Only half of that is because of the item. The other half is because it's you. You bring us joy with every video and it was compounded this month with how the effort on display was for us.
While she commented on the purple sparkles at the beginning, it took my wife until the Seahawks comment to make the connection and she forced me to pause.
We're looking for a good place to display it when it's not in use.
Thank you so much!
I'm so glad that it arrived safety!
Thank you guys for letting me make this for you!
@@peterbrownwastaken seems like it needs a cool lit display ! now great work
Came down here to find your comment - gotta say, love the concept behind the talking stick and wish it had been implemented in my family. Y'all are doing something right.
I don't know about this family in particular but I know the idea of "the talking stick" is seen in just about every Native American Tribal Law. From Cheftain meetings to family discussions it's been used in every debate/discussion to show respect to all involved.@@TJtheBee
Peter: I have never had glitter in the shop before; this is a first for me.
Me: Well, now you're gonna have glitter in the shop forever
Please reach out to Hedron Rockworks to see if you could get any of his gemstone grinding dust for a dye trying episode
Ooh, it would be super cool to make a secret wood D20 in his style! I dont know if it would be possible though.
I second this! That would be an epic collaboration!
@@lemondropcentral14 Wood and resin would probably be easier for him to cut and polish than some of the materials he usually works with.
Peter before : We've never had glitter in the shop before.
Peter after : HOW DO WE STILL HAVE GLITTER IN THE SHOP!?
And forever after will have glitter in the shop! 🤪
*several* years after... 😂
That was mine main concern! We'll see if it continues to pop up!!
@@stsfuzzybear4613 And in your hair, finger prints, randomly on your feet when you get out of the shower... it's never going away now
@@peterbrownwastaken It will. It's in the air now. They say only cockroaches and twinkies could survive the apocalypse. They've never tried to clean up glitter.
I LOVE seeing you upload! I used to be a girl from Germany watching you create all kinds of stuff and now I am a young woman from Germany watching you create all kinds of stuff. Time flies and you're one of the content creators that has never failed to make my days better. Thank you!
I love your videos but I haven't watched in awhile because of the BetterHelp sponsorships. Keep up the fun videos and all your playful creativity ❤ Your content has meant a lot to me over the years. Hopefully one day I'll feel differently about BetterHelp. (And hopefully this doesn't feel passive-agressive or anything, I just figure that if I've been too uncomfortable to watch, then maybe others have too so I thought it might be helpful to know).
I watch, and make liberal use of the fast forward button.
Yeah, BetterHelp are... awful people for what they do, taking advantage of those that need help. But I'm pretty sure he's under contract. I just skip the ads. He gets paid, I get to watch the video
nah this is a vaild reason to not watch; BetterHelp replaced a bunch of specialists with chat bots, and then leaked tons of private data and got sued for it
@@vaelophisnyx9873 Oh, man, it just keeps getting worse, doesn't it.
I agree, I'm bummed to see any creator supporting BetterHelp, but I'm also happy for Peter to be getting sponsors, because he deserves it! And if it has been helpful for his mental health, then I am thankful for that too (it can't all be horror stories over there, though I've certainly heard my share). I just fast forward, and try to warn people about it whenever they ask.
We really need a shirt that has your micro mesh talking points. I'd buy that instantly
Seeing you mess up and make mistakes is so helpful. It's a good reminder for myself that it's part of the process and isn't the end of the world if a project goes wrong. I know it's the reason why I didn't quit the first time I had a project overheat.
3:50
Now you'll always have glitter in the shop.
This channel is so wholesome. You're honestly a great internet dad for all the kids who don't have a real one around. The talking stick idea is so cool; what a fantastic family culture they have!
Ah, I loved seeing this! I carve spoons, lovespoons particularly, and I also happen to enjoy the look of the 'lost wood' wood/resin pieces - perhaps I'll give that a try as well.
FWIW, when I first learned to carve spoons, I asked, rather petulantly I'll admit, my mentor why we carved the whole thing, rather than using a bandsaw and bandsander to knock it down at least SOME. And he said that while we were learning, he wanted us to practice the technique with handtools to build that muscle memory up, but that he felt that once we had that skill in our hat, it was just as valid to use any and every tool at our disposal -- so I'd share his sentiment and say that your spoon carving method is perfectly fine!
Lovely job, Peter!
Wow, this is awesome! I first watched your videos when i was about 12, (pretty constantly) 'm 21 next month. I'm reallyyy happy to see you are still making videos and not only that but it doesn't feel like i come back to an entirely changed person/channel. Still OG and cozy like i remember.
Peter, if you ever have to handle curing overheated resin again, may I suggest getting some heat resistant gloves to have under your usual gloves? I used to handle rotisserie work some years back and we had what were basically just some cheap, thick, plain cotton gardening gloves. It wasn’t perfect protection, but it made a huge difference and allowed me to handle the skewers just moments after cooking had finished.
Watching a new Peter Brown video always makes me feel like a kid again. Top tier as always Mr. Brown 🫡
Beautiful! Truly worthy of The Tick's battlecry.
That should have sooooo many more likes
@@jasonscheffler9813 wish I was going to Open Sauce this year. Peter was the first maker I met after I walked through the doors, and I immediately knew it was going to be cool. Next year, though.
Ah, that was a lovely message from you at the end, sir. Really touching input from you ❤
"The spoon has become a symbol of respect in our family" I can think of a very different reason for that lmao
Oh, you have immigrant parents too?
Clearly it worked but I'm wondering, does that mold release spray onto the wood not weaken the connection between wood and resin (2:17)
That was a mistake. Since that casting failed I in a way got lucky. I think I was just nervous at that point. :)
@@peterbrownwastakena happy accident indeed
I like you and your videos. You're an awesome guy. Sad about the sponsor though. They're super creepy. Look them up on any media/news site or wikipedia.
He knows
He's under contract and can't get out. There's really no point with so many people blasting him on ever video 😢
@@BlackDawnYaoiLover I complemented him and plainly stated simple facts with no emotional twist beyond it making me sad. Because those facts are important for vulnerable people. I didn't say anything offensive or accusatory about anyone besides BH. All these extreme reactions about "blasting" and "shaming" really say a lot about the emotional state of the people writing them. Perhaps those people need some BetterHelp. Or perhaps they already got it, which would explain some things.
@@user-hf3ym7lh4d I didn't say you were blasting or shaking, but most of his comment section has just devolved into people upset he's locked into a contract he can't pay to get out of 🤷♀️
@@BlackDawnYaoiLover Fair enough. I guess I just feel a lot more sorry for BH's victims, which is where the money going to this channel came from. I absolutely do not support anybody tearing down Peter. But I am going to continue to respectfully make sure that when I see that predatory company advertised, people have a chance to be warned. They've been in the news for being scummy for *6 years* now. I hope he makes wiser choices and does even the most cursory background check before the next sponsor he signs with. 774k subscribers are counting on him to do better. Regardless of what other people are saying or doing, that is what I am going to continue to do. Because I miss enjoying his videos. He's a good guy. But the sponsor is really gross and if I were advertising them I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror.
That turned out awesome. I enjoyed seeing the failed spoon and the bad pour. I had no idea the resin would get that hot. That was nuts. Great job!
Love when you upload, Peter! My husband and I always yell " New Peter Brown!!" when we see a fresh upload. You inspire both of us to keep being creative 🤟🏻
I like rusty spoons.
But this one is also beautiful!
What about rusty taps?
Margery? Is that you?
I love that you leave in your mistakes. So many art creators make things look easy by cutting out the screw ups, but you show all the real trials you go through and let people see that even if you mess up you can still make things work.
Oh man, prepare to have glitter in your shop for the next decade. I wore a purple glittery dress to my homecoming dance, went in my friend's minivan, and 9 years later when they sold the van, there was still purple glitter in there! Nevertheless, the spoon came out great and I really dig how some of the glitter settled onto the wood, that was the first thing I noticed.
It's BEAUTIFUL! I love how you show us the 'oops' moments. How you'll try new projects. It's always great to see a new video from you pop up!
Question-the chunks of the overheated resin? Do they ever solidify enough to be used, or do they have to be tossed?
Peter that spoon came out beautifully! I also really enjoyed how wholesome this video is; both the concept of the talking stick and being reminded to praise oneself are powerful ways of improving both mental health and communication skills.
You're right. His respect IS the real gift!
The talking spoon is amazing!!!
Woah it’s been a minute since the last time I saw your videos. It’s been least 7 years! So glad yours still doing wood crafts.
Peter, I love that you were brave and made this beautiful piece. But, my favorite part is your commentary on the value of the piece. You are a very thoughtful man. I always enjoy your videos and your beautiful work.
Microfine always wins! whether it's in looks or tenacity in your shop, it ALWAYS wins!
"Will the mold hold" Is always gonna be a "no" unless it's a mold that has been used before on the channel (See: Murder Bowl mold)
What an honour to create such a purposeful tool. As always, beautifully done, Peter!
I really really like the shape and colours the spoon ended up with.
This spoon looks magical! Great job and exciting process to watch, as always!
Thank you so much!
Many years ago my dad made a wooden spoon about 3' long, it's not used a talking stick but if someone were to break in they'd run. 😄
Good spoon there Peter. 😀👍
Love the spoon, the story and you pushing yourself into new challenges. without a doubt my favorite channel on youtube.
Mr. Brown! How good to see you. We, missed you. 😎
This is beautiful Peter. Love a morning (for me in the UK) that has your upload in it
Watching someone do their craft a lovely calm amazing way to start a day. Yours is especially lovely.
💖💖
I appreciate that you showed the mistake with the first batch of resin. It’s easy for beginners to see these amazing final products and get discouraged, but the whole process always includes learning and mistakes.
"Coroplast" Like corrugated cardboard but it's corrugated plastic. Yes it is used for yard sign and such.
That’s REALLY beautiful!!!!
I hate how youtube doesn't show me your content anymore. I need to remember to look you up. I have so many videos i have to catch up on
I'd really like to see you pkay more with how glitter settles on the wood through resin.
This came out beautifully, well done on it! And for trying something new with spoon carving, it did look like a very relaxing process!
You may have never had glitter in the shop before, but now that you've opened not one, but two pots of it, you will now ALWAYS have glitter in the shop!
Glitter its just like Christmas beautiful colors
I thought I was going to hate the glitter, but man I love the galaxy look
hey peter long time viewer and i couldn't help but notice your sponsor better help sounds like its had some issues in the past and as some one who also goes to therapy i just wanted to make you aware of that
Neat. Particularly where the resin and glitter settled toards the edge of the wood.
I hope she was happy with her gift. Ì know I would have been happy and proud my friend made it. It's beautiful.
What a beautiful gift on many levels ❤
What an awesome project! And an awesome family value that goes along with it.
So glitter and pigment. Have you see Solar Color Dust? SO many things. Glow, UV reactive, temperature reactive, color shift...It's good stuff.
Beautiful piece of work of art!! 🥰 And minimal bodily damage! 🤗😍
Wow great video Peter. Loved the dialogue and charm. It''s a great gift!
Being both a retired professional parliamentarian and a network communication nerd, I immediately recognized the purpose of a talking stick.
Corrugated plastic!!! (Brand name coroplast) often used in C&C (often stylized cnc, but whe. You google cnc you get computer numerical control machines, which is not the same as coroplast and cube guinea pig enclosures.)
When special interests collide
My day always gets better when I see you've uploaded! :)
The squared corner on the spoon that you commented on is designed to get things out of the bottom corner of a jar or can.
Amazing work!!! Ty for your channel it helps to calm my anxiety
Great video and wonderful job on the spoon!
Great video! I've akways loved the wood anf resin mix
Always a good day when you upload. Hope you're doing well.
GORGEOUS 😍
Dang! I knew resin got hot, but I didnt know it could get THAT hot!!
This looks amazing!
Like the new molding technique!
Haha.
I love the way the resin and glitter look.
Peter, just an FYI. The plastic is corrugated plastic and yes, is used for yard signs as well as other standing advertisements. The brand name is Coraplast, but that name has turned into a proprietary eponym at least in the printing industry. I only know this because printing and marketing was my career for 30 years before I became disabled.
I’ve never been so early!! I’ve been watching for years and I’m so happy you popped back up on my feed and still just as joyful as ever ❤❤🎉🎉
Great video Peter.
Hi Peter. Lifelong fan on my personal account but just started this one to share my journey. I just used my pressure pot for the first time today! Can't wait to steal all of your ideas! :P
Lord knows I hate when people suggest what I make next but, that "learning moment" first attempt at a carved spoon could easily be cast in resin and made into your next attempt
What a beautiful gift
love it and the idea behind it
Even though you will probably be finding bits of disintegrated disco ball in the shop till the end of your days, I am so glad you decided not to put the Seahawk's colors with the purple! One of their colors is a yellow-green which would have left you with a brown muddy mess! 😊 The spoon turned out lovely though!
At 13:53, what are you using to clean your sander?
Good call, not going for the Seahawks colors. They are dark navy blue and neon lime green. There aren't many color combinations that clash more than that.
Really? I've never given much thought about them (aside from how their games mess up traffic), but I've always thought their colors looked great on all the fans around here.
@@delecti Maybe on the fans, but the uniforms are an eyesore.
Never understood what's with the jarring color palettes on Seattle teams. The Kraken are only slightly better.
rip to your shop but the glitter was so beautiful i hope youll use more in future videos! this is an amazing first spoon, and an amazing little piece of art
It counts.
great work.
Great job Peter! I'm impressed. You did good. Keep it up.
Does mold release make the connection between resin and wood worse, or does the porous nature of the wood make that a non-issue?
He mentioned in another reply that it was a mistake, but since that pour failed it all worked out in the end
The wildest thing about this whole project is that Peter has never used glitter in the shop. Awesome project as always.
Awesome DIY project :)
Have you considered using a freezer like B&M Sculptures uses to prevent the resin from overheating? Probably unlock a whole new level of projects if you do!
Nice Work Peter, looks beautiful
Been watching you for a long time
the better help shilling isn't a great look, man. they JUST got sued over privacy issues.
Good choice with the walnut oil
Peter, a Tip for your sign board and hot glue: I use can of electronic duster. Upside down, the extreme cold from CO2 or other compressed chemicals is super cold. Wearing a paint respirator and in shop vented. It rapidly sets the hot glue.
The safety police will eat me alive in the comments, but it works and saves my fingers from burns and prevents a metric f-ton of headaches.
How many times will i watch this video? Thwee to run !
It’s so pretty!!!
Its dumb, but i look forward to the micromesh speil in every video 😂
@peterbrownwastaken. please walk us through cutting micarta/guicarta with the diode laser. Id love to see a silicone mold making video. ❤
lol did you say 'biscuits and gravy?!' Americans are hilarious. I''m glad you're back. Always happy when you upload. Thanks for the video
Over the years of RUclips I have worked very hard not to swear on video. I'm sometimes just as surprised by the words that come out of my mouth. :)
@@peterbrownwastaken Well it was hilarious and you made me laugh. Thanks for that!
It is a fun censorship choice! But in case you don’t know (and I don’t mean for this to sound rude, just genuinely trying to be helpful) biscuits and gravy are a thing here, it’s just that our biscuits are more of a roll type thing not a “cookie”. But biscuits and gravy (which is usually a white sausage gravy) is genuinely delicious!
@@SegginsProductions aye, I've just never heard of it as a replacement for cursing, it was unexpected and it made me laugh. I do get confused for a second when watching American shows if someone orders biscuits and gravy, as my instant thought is jammy dodgers on gravy!
@@Maazzzo 😂 it is quite confusing!
hey, that first attempt didnt look too bad. also as per better help, youve probably already been told but they were fined by the fcc some 7mil usd last time i checked for selling user information (and other things? i think? but i think the Big thing was the whole selling user info thing)
but also like, go you. get some bank from that shitty company
oh! a key point to note is their therapists/other mental health professionals areNot licensed!! so they could do a lot of harm! i doubt any of them actually mean harm but therapy really is something you need training for to make sure you dont like. fuck someone up worse
oooooh spicy resin! glad you didnt burn yourself
ooh, talking stick! kinda in the same vein as holding your hand up to talk next. i like it
watching you dismantle your first attempt after the resin kicked and overheated to try and save the piece of wood, I sat there shaking my head saying "peteeeerrrrrr......." over and over agin lmfao. Love the final product though, nice work!
Its so pretty
Great job on this! Also would love to hear your opinion on the engraver you used, it just hit my radar and I'm thinking of picking one up.
It’s so nice. Admittedly I was gifted it. But it seems totally worth it.
Me looking at your first attempt like: "If it's still ugly, it's not done being sanded yet! Keep going!"
I do enjoy having my fingers attached to my hands also.
