Just want you to know that, years ago, you helped me discover two things. First one is micromesh, that I love. Second one is the bold mindset that you have in front of unknown territories. It made me realise that "hey, why not?" was a valid way of thinking. So for that, and for the fact that this year I used micromesh to polish my future wife's wedding ring, thanks a lot Mr. Brown.
My roomie: “the resin shavings look like silly string” Peter: “I wanna stick my hand into the shavings, but you never know what else can get caught in there” Me: “ah yes. It’s Serious String.”
If you choose your colors carefully, you could dye the eggshell two different colors. E.g., hardboil the egg, then dye it yellow, then take the shell off the egg. Now dye it red, and you'd get shells that are red on one side, and orange on the other!
Probably safer to do the reverse. Red is dangerous, as we saw. Yellow is often a weak color and it'll me easily overtaken. Red on outside, then add yellow after.
It's okay, Peter, a lot of us have the "too much gene". I love the abstract, modern art-esque shapes the egg shells made. It looks just like a painting. I also can't wait to see what other things you make with those duo/multi chrome pigments. I'm a makeup junkie and the one you used with the egg shells would make such a pretty eyeshadow haha
That bottle stopper came out really cool under the light! I'm a sucker for transparent purple stuff, aaaaa. Let's Resin deep pour is what I've been using lately, it's really great for beginners. I don't have a pressure pot but I haven't had any bubble issues with it. My only problem so far is some dingus in my house knocked over my mold on day 2 and put it back upside-down so all the resin leaked out overnight, still not sure which dingus it was...
I would love to see something made with with metal shavings (like what was used in the murder bowl) and the gold leaf. The tight silver spirals would contrast the organic nature of the gold leaf quite well I think.
Google tells me it’s “Something Zac from JerryRigEverything says in nearly every RUclips Video. He is known for literally destroying phones for a living with various durability tests. Refers to the Moh's Scale of Hardness, and how strong certain cell phone glass is.”
For the dyeing of eggshells, I imagine you could approach it similarly to re-dyeing cotton; Sometimes, if you've dyed cotton one colour, say blue in this case, but you decide you want it to be purple, you would actually add some of the original dye in batch you do, so that the balance works better. This is to account for all the dye you washed out the first time, I think? It is honestly an approach handed down to me so I can't say if it's the best or anything, but this made me think of that.
Very glad you didn't make another pen. I love the gold-flecked honey dipper, it's gorgeous! And I really like the 2-projects-in-1-video. :) Well done!!
That colour changing dye! when you held that up to the light it looked like a nebula! so many possiblilities! that would make an amazing night light or something similar
The eggshell almost look like some kind of mineral or crystal, like Desert rose. I bet you could use dyes that doesn't affect resin to change the white edges at the end, you could use several colors on different areas of the same object. Also tying the shells together and spraying them from different angles would look cool. Splashing some glue or lacquer on the shells before dying them would probably let you keep them white, produce spots/patterns with the color underneath!
Oh god, I don't think that's a word I've EVER typed on a keyboard before, but naturally it didn't get picked up by autocorrect 🤣 I have to make the edit, for my own sanity, but thanks for highlighting it 😅
Looks so cool! I've heard that vinegar dissolves eggshells and I think I've seen it used in coloring eggshells before. So maybe you could try adding a splash of vinegar in the dye blend next time and see if that helps to penetrate the shells a bit more? Don't leave it in there for too long though or the shells might turn into goop :)
So when i dye my eggs for easter, i always use vinegar. It does not penetrate the shell- and if using too much, itll end up kinda... melting the shell? Just slightly. For instance, if you dye the egg, and wait too long, then go to take it out, the dyed part will rub off on your hands and be an off-white (there will be a hint of whatever color was used ) However, i feel that if used correctly, it makes the colors more vibrant.
Hello Peter. First time seeing your channel. I’ve watched Nick Z for quite some while and he said check you out because of the collaboration. I’m so glad he did. You really made me chuckle. I love the egg shell bottle stopper - the way the edges of the shell bits have laid gives the piece a very Art Deco feel. I’d love this in my display cabinet any day of the week. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing the next posting. X
Looking at that resin egg, I was reminded of another ovoid shape: The handles of arcade joysticks! Have arcade or fighting game sticks come up as a project idea? A fight stick or hitbox can combine BOTH resin and woodworking! The stick handles come in a variety of shapes (ball, oval, bat, etc.), and the top panels are flat, modestly sized pieces. I think that would open up many options.
Plus the arcade stick tops are attached with a simple threaded insert. So they'd have a firm attachment. Be cool to see what random stuff he could make.
Very much enjoyed watching these two projects. I noticed you’re not using a pressure pot to get the bubbles out of your projects while they cure. Which is what I’m researching how to make my own currently. Thank you for including the products you use in your projects. Very helpful. The egg shell was definitely a fascinating look in the end.
Peter: "...even their cocoa is perfect" Never have I ever had a more depressing statement resonate with me so hard! It also made me laugh! That 'wet blanket' feeling makes me so irritable and angry sometimes, it has taken me years to learn how to ignore it. Sorry, didn't mean to dump on you man. Good job, both look great!
Just FYI, if you sand to 800 grit (assuming P800, not the American standard 800), you can skip the 1500 micro mesh and go right to the 1800 grit. On the micro mesh scale, 1500 is the same grit as American standard 360 grit (29 microns) or just a bit finer than P400 grit (35 microns). The micro mesh 1800 grit is the same as the American 700 grit (14 microns) and just between the P1200 (18 microns) and P1500 (12.6 microns)
Fantastic makes as always Peter. I might have to try that egg shell thing myself.😀 always a pleasure to watch your video's. That new chuck looks so awesome 👍
on the mount for the egg shell could put a little LED thingy at the tip to shine up from the inside, might have to drill through the shell layer to just the dyed epoxy
Hey, Peter! You should do a contest to win that egg you made. My mother used to get an Easter egg like that from her grandmother for Easter every year, and I've continued that tradition these last few years. I'd love to win that egg a give it to her (not to mention the honor of having one of your projects).
MAN, your body looks great, well done with that great transition, also great video as always, I'm a big fan and been watching your videos for more than 8 years and you kept amaze me every time, LOVE from Saudi Arabia
Thank you for making the content that you do. Always love seeing a new video. I agree on both results! The egg would look even cooler with an LED light up base and maybe a teeny bit less pigment.. lol I really like the idea of making broken eggshells back into an "egg" maybe even filling it up to the top with a gradient of egg shell colors?
As an experiment I would love to see a more densely packed in eggshell in resin...try to maximize the natural curving patterns that come out of it. I love that it looks like a galaxy with the light through it. Also, I think with all these eccentric materials, dyes, textures...you should just make a stacked sandwich of unique layers of materials, and then lathe it so we see the cross section down the handle. I love your channel.

The micromesh-yorkshire grit swap was the betrayal of a lifetime
Haha.

I am now wondering what that gold would look like in a black resin. Murder bowl style.
YES. Why didn't I think of that?
The murder bowl was one of my favorites why did it have to be so deadly 😭🤣
