- The #BMWX2 returns for 2024 built on the same redesigned chassis as the boxier #BMWX1. The #X2M35i is the more performance oriented version with the new #X2 also growing in size and luxury this year. It also finally gets a design that looks more coupe-like and gives off more baby X6 vibes versus the tall hatch vibes of the previous generation.

Right now I'm at the 2024 Chicago International Auto Show for the 2-day press event. I'm shooting reviews for the Vehicle Visionary RUclips channel. While walking the floor this afternoon I saw Mr. Bey, as he was reviewing a vehicle (I won't say which), and I stopped him when he took a pause, introduced myself and asked him to take a picture with me.
This guy was SO gracious and polite to me and took the picture, and took time to chat with me, even though I was interrupting him. He's a gentleman.

We currently own 3 BMWs. An M850i GC, a Z4 M40i and an X5 50e. I have to say I adore this little X2. Might just get one for tooling around town.

I feel like BMWs get tackier each year. The previous M5 CS is probably the best looking one i've seen in recent times.

I first saw this reviewed in a matte blue and thought the styling looked clunky and awkward -- but the red really does wonders making it much more sporty.
I got a question , I went to the dealer and the panoramic roof doesn’t open up as a sunroof/moonroof

As long as it’s better than the last gen. I’m not loving the front end, but modern day BMW’s all look like this, so it must be working for them.

absolutely do not like the floating center with no hidden storage. That's a big miss if you ask me.
I thought the same thing. Then I took a minute to ponder who this car is for:
Mid level manager. Late 40s early 50s. Recently divorced. Kids are grown and hate dad. Needs to “show off” at company events. So, that large area is for the purse of his long-term “escort girl” or, equally likely, the young intern secretary that he has woo’ed by throwing her some money here and there.
And yes. He bought that gawdy purse. And paid too much for it.

The Buick Envista is better looking but definitely not as nice inside… lowkey Buick should make an Envista GS with twin clutch AWD… to give BMW a run for its money
No rear window wiper/washer and no spare tire. Same lag/lurch from a normal stop/start as regular X1. Same engine as X1 M35i. So, basically another X1 without a rear wiper and less cargo room.
Yea biggest complaint about my 2018 X1 is the start from stopped feeling. I was hoping they fixed it on this new generation. No spoiler at the top of the X2 window and wiper will be my reason I stick with X1. The sun and hail in Texas will destroy the X2.

I do love the color but this is NOT for enthusiasts. Front wheel drive based and a Mini 4 cylinder does not a BMW enthusiast model make. At this price, buy a used X3 M40i.
It reminds me of the Mustang Mach E , still looks good. Never was a fan of the x2 but I understand why this has to be made. I love the car now ….
Nice, they did a great job with X2, it has come a long ways from when they first came out with it and was selling them, thanks for the video. The rear end with the spoiler and taillights looks like C7 vette in my opinion.
I remember when 35i used to mean the car had the 6-cylinder (like a 335i sedan)... now it means an upgraded 4-banger? I know the 6-cylinders have moved to the 40i designation, but still.
i know the sliding of the numbers only confuses things more....especially since they mean something different only a few years ago

Something about the headlight housing looks off to me.. idk if it’s a little to bulbous or angled off too high but it feels outdated already
It's the clam shell hood and the way the headlight housing wraps around it. Its very 90s to me

I saw this in person today in Frozen Portimao Blue. Definitely looks a lot nicer in person than on videos/photos. Same as my G87 M2 - videos/photos don't do it justice. The interior is really nice as well.

I love the style of that. For me personally I stuck with the X1 for the space practicality. My X1 M35i is somewhere between the factory and the boat, so maybe a month out. This new X2 would look amazing in so many flashy individual color choices as well but that red is great on it. Note that the price difference between regular and M versions is not quite as much as it seems. At least for the X1, the M25i version adds a handful of things standard that are optional or in packages on the X1 28i. For instance, the HK sound and m sport brakes (and 19" wheels) are standard on M35i
The rear lights make it look like a Chevy crossover 🤮

Loved my X2. This is a major contender for my next vehicle. I have an 2022 X3 M40 which is wonderful, but too big for me. Knowing that the new 2025 X3 will be larger, not sure I want another.

Still not understand why BMW dropped the excellent 8-spped for this dual-clutch. For me this is a not starter. I don't need to suffer this transmission in stop and go traffic for marginal mpg improvement...

Nice! , are these carmakers trying to steer you into electrification for ex not have a traditional retractable roof ?.. off the grid here, so I test driven a BMW i5 M60 yesterday while getting an oil change on my 23 x3M40 , and the dealership salesman was trying to get me to break my current lease to put me in the M60 which I am thinking to upgrade, but I’m not sure. Question does anyone know how much to insure a luxury EV vehicle ? I don’t particularly like electric vehicles , but I did enjoy that M60

A 1 second improvement to 60 doesn't seem like a worth while upgrade considering the higher price vs the 28. Might be better to go with the base engine with M styling package. No one is going to track this so I doubt you will miss the larger brakes and extras that go with the m35i.
I find the ~30i level of power is often the sweet spot with BMWs. Unfortunately in the UK we're only getting the 20i (170hp 1.5L) and the 35i so there's a pretty massive jump in performance (and price) if you want a faster one
@@ApurtureSci I have a 2017 X1 and it's plenty peppy. I think it has the same engine base engine as the 2025. So far so good. I can get almost 40 mpg on the freeway when driven conservativley.
@@stevelouie5928 Definitely enough power for a daily runabout. I had a '21 320i for a few months and that felt perfectly adequate with only 184hp. Got over 50 mpg UK (that's over 42 US) with ease on the motorway which really impressed me, although apparently the 330i can do just as well considering its basically the same engine & gearbox. Great cars!

BMW didn’t start it with the X6, Infiniti did with the FX
If you compare the FX, the first generation really didn’t have a coupe like backend as it had a slightly curved vertical roofline and tailgate, like the Buick Enclave SUV. The second generation FX released in 2008 had a more curved incline roof and tailgate, but it was still not as drastic as the X6. The BMW X6 was released in 2007, that was a seriously inclined roofline and tailgate that was more noticeable than the FX.
So therefore what he is saying is correct. BMW was the first company with an SUV with a coupe like backend.
Riddle me this…..who’s got $60k for that car ? If you’re in that 2 percent market , have fun with it.

Have BMW designers completely lost their senses? Complete and utter garbage. Tacky gloss black everywhere, cheap looking tacked on screens... uninspired wheel designs, the only redeeming element would be the front seats. Another throw away lease machine.
Dashboard look stupid gear lever should be a must when outside looks good they mess up the interior Bmw you need a overall designer the x6 would look better with this design bring back the 2010 528i and add this back light to it you would have the ultimate driving machine
BMW snobs aside, who think how dare their beloved perfect car company sell anything other than a straight 6 RWD car, well this generation looks like they re-skinned a Polestar2, no thanks, I'll take a barely used previous gen M35i for under $30k and it's as simple as a VW for maintenance, it has the same best FWD based AWD Haldex system, which means you only need one extra Haldex oil change every 40k compared to any other basic AWD car out there.

I applaud bmw for trying to make a distinctive looking auto when everyone else has the same jellybean SUV shape pioneered by the X6.
But... this is not an attractive or practical design.
Why is BMW trying so hard to stray away from the greatness that they are known for? Also that center console looks cheap AF.
