for the strike double lift that he mentions at 2:37, you want to shift the deck so its like an angle, making it easier to find two cards. for the push-off you do it by sight, not by feeling it. but double lifts are hard and take practice, no matter how easy youtube guys make it seem. just keep working at it, you'll get it eventually.
I would like to personally thank you for this tutorial. I have been doing magic for about three months now and I could not master the double lift! It looked sloppy and I have messed up many times. I have mastered yours, and not only does it look natural, it feels natural, and my performances have been much improved! Thank you.
doing magic for three months can't "master" any sleight. dont think you need to master any move. the idea is to fool your spectator. lifts have to be integrated into a routine. with good storytelling and misdirection, you can get away with a lift without it being completely invisible. you just have to make every move deliberate and maintain eye contact especially if theyre watching your hands a lot. only thing to keep in mind: however you flip over one card on top of the deck MUST be the same exact way you do a double, triple, or quadruple lift. keep it natural and keep it simple.
I would recommend learning both a fancy double lift (such as this one) and a simple one (such as the strike or instantaneous double lift). The type of double lift you use really depends on context. If I'm going to do a double lift just for a quick flash, I think it's nice to be a little fancy with it. Of course, I wouldn't use this double lift throughout an entire ambitious card routine. I wouldn't say the Push Off double lift is bad or great, but depends on how you choose to use it
Gotta keep your eye on the cards, you can visually see where the two cards are... and if you pick up three, just say "oops, picked up two" then when you pick up two, it actually looks more like you picked up one
A superb video on the double lift. It is clear and concise. It demonstrates not only the fundamental manipulations for an excellent double lift, but also shows many fine details not usually addressed. The video and audio qualities are excellent. Liked and subscribed.
@saderguy you could just flip the three cards over and say you accidentally picked up two cards... then do your double lift again, not that major of a problem.
Ludvig Jensen There is a professional league of legends player named doublelift. He named himself after this very card trick. The terms the two above you are using refer to him and the game itself.
Double lift is a hard one, but I will keep at it. Nice little move you did at 0:07 . I am new to this cardmagic, where should a complete beginner start? I learned some fake shuffles so far. I feel like a general feel and control of the deck is needed before I even think about fooling anyone...
When doing the variation described at 8:34 (when you have a break), I recommend still making the push off motion with the left thumb. It looks more natural as though you're dealing the top card over. And above all, practice, practice, practice until your DL looks natural. This is a workhorse sleight you'll use for the rest of your life. We can't afford to be sloppy and expose this or we lose a priceless tool. Treat it accordingly. This tutorial, while a tad frantic, is very useful. Well done.
Also the strike double is really handy to learn if you for some reason forget to get a break, and you don't need to riffle through all the cards, i just tilt the deck a bit and take the two cards on the top without any troubles :)
i have problems with double lifts all the time. This one is really nice. more than half the time i end with two cards without even noticing it. after a while it's harder to lift a single card. =)
i find it 100 times easier to riffle the back of the cards counting 2 cards with my thumb, but this double lift came in handy lots of times, especially around larger crowds
As a magician who has small hands, i find that the best way to do a double lift is to get at least good (6 out of 10 skill rating) and master verbal misdirection. If no one is looking at your hands at all, you can do anything you want invisibly. Though mastering the double lift while people are watching is a mile stone in becoming a great magician, beginners need to keep eyes from locking on their hands. Just my two copper.
I used to always get three, just get the feel of having two cards by pushing it off the top more than u would. Then, keep lowering the amount u push off until u get it right. Or, at first take what u take is three cards and take one less, which shud be two cards
I've always had problems with the double-lift and this really helped me.However it's not so natural to show a card like that tbh. So instead of pushing with the thumb push it DOWN with your index finger (while in mehanics grip) And just feel two cards and flip them over.
I used Brad Christians tutorial... At first I really struggled with this DL, and was very frustrated. The secret is very minimal pressure and practice daily. It took me about 4 weeks. Deck of cards in front of tv, over and over and over. What happens eventually is you are able to sensitise your thumb tip, so that you do actually feel two cards. I guess it's so hard initially because it's just not something we have trained to do. My first efforts were about 10% successful but now 95%. Persevere!
how do you get two cards consistently? I'm new to magic and have been practicing this double lift a lot, and although most of the time I can manage to spot two cards fairly quickly, there are times where I'll go to peel down cards and I'll get clumps or one card will slide down and the rest will stick. it'll look pretty shitty if I'm in the middle of a trick and then start fumbling with the top card or spend too much time just going to flip over a card. any tips for getting two cards consistently? btw your videos are awesome man, I've been learning a lot from your tutorials and stuff. keep up the good work
amazing video man. i literally watched this a couple hours ago and have already developed a brand new (well modified) trick which takes advantage of this amazingly subtle lift. and it doesn't matter if i accidentally lift 3 cards as i'm not great at this lift yet. thanks for the post
:05 If you were to hold the cards in Biddle grip in your right hand after you drop the first card, Then you could reveal the first card with with your left hand and not have to switch hands to do your Dribble revelation. It will make more visual sense.
I personaly prefer the strike double lift for one reason, it's not as fancy as the push off double lift. This relies heavily on presentation style, however if you normally don't do many flourishes and/or use a normal way to turn over one card some observant laymen might figure you out because it's suddenly a new way to turn over the card, so you should really learn some other fancy ways of turning over the top card.
Awesome videos, I just subbed because you still reply to comments even on a 2 year old video. That's cool man. Also although I'm only a beginner I think this is the best double lift I've tried. I even find it easier to do than others.
This is a great double lift, but if you want to up it's reliability (or the reliability of any lift), you should train the pinky count. The pink count is, imo, one of the top 5 slights.
@xXTwIsTeDxAcEXx there are more ways than one to do a double lift. And people are probably just being nice to you because you're 14 and don't want to call you out on your flaws.
The one thing I see you do and I’m not sure if it’s habit but you hold the cards the entire turnover. Let it drop. Don’t be afraid of it. It looks so much more natural. Love your videos btw
hey bro, is that bicycle deck plastic or paper? i bought a paper one coated with plastic. and i'm not sure if this is recommended for practice. thanks ahead!
This double lift is NOT called the "push-off double lift" and I think it's just what Evan made to give it a name. It's the Knock-Out Double Lift by Martin Nash taught by Jason England from Nash's book "Ever So Sleightly."
The reason I hate sleights like this is because the cards never want to cooperate. I can't get the cards to stay together. The motion is good, but as soon as I flip the card, it sometimes slips off of one another and there's nothing I can do to help that. Are you just using a worn deck? Because trying this with a new deck would be near impossible without screwing up.
I don't understand how this would look natural at all. In my opinion no one ever turns over a card like that.. Whenever i see someone turn over a card like that i automatically know its a double lift. No matter how fast you do it you can always tell. Maybe to the untrained eye it would look alright.
Buy crash course 2 from Ellusionist and watch their video on the push off double lift, no offense to Jarek, but it goes much more in depth and will make you understand why
Might not be his best tutorial, but does that mean you should bag him out for getting out there and sharing his passion with the world? Didn't think so.
That thing about breaking your wrist to turn the card over. That's the thing I see that I most hate about people doing the DL. It's a common error I think for beginners. You don't have to do that. You can just push it with your finger and let gravity work it's magic.
absolutely O_O flawless! thanks for the yet again great tutorial and btw thx for your comment on my channel, had no time to reply yet but thanks for the offer! keep up the great work
Kammagic is a great with card magic. Maybe the best on youtube, but his double lift is second best to this one, no question about it. I'm not talking execution, I'm talking method. Kam executes his DL so well it hardly matters, but this is the definitive push off DL, and THE most natural looking.
My cards doesnt spread that close they always spread down wich kinda gives it away according to me, I haven´t tried it on ppl yet because of this, any tips?
seems almost like you dont like very much other double lift or triple lift then the push-off one. i kind of disagree, i think they are all awesome move when used at the proper time and with the right trick ! well done tutorial, liked it !
My marlo tilt seems to be more angle sensitive no matter what, does anyone have and tips on how to get the right angle? any replys will be MUCH appreciated.
I keep doing involuntary triple lifts instead of double lifts >< And it happens in the video as well, with the cards handeled by an experienced magician... The little rifle thing makes it easier to grab only two cards but it's also less stealthy
just one tip on the double lift, the way you flip the cards back on the deck is too quick, too noisy and unnatural. you should just let the card slide off to the side then just give it a little push and they won't separate. , that's just my opinion. Also, i think you should check out daryl's double lift, it's a really good one imo. Anyway, that's just some constructive criticism that i hope will help you :)
hardest thing is to pick up just the two cards
for the strike double lift that he mentions at 2:37, you want to shift the deck so its like an angle, making it easier to find two cards. for the push-off you do it by sight, not by feeling it. but double lifts are hard and take practice, no matter how easy youtube guys make it seem. just keep working at it, you'll get it eventually.
I totally disagree.
with the push off double lift you can absolutely develop a feel where you don't have to look anymore.
I would like to personally thank you for this tutorial. I have been doing magic for about three months now and I could not master the double lift! It looked sloppy and I have messed up many times. I have mastered yours, and not only does it look natural, it feels natural, and my performances have been much improved! Thank you.

You can go by feel with this one you haven't practiced it long enough.
A superb video on the double lift. It is clear and concise. It demonstrates not only the fundamental manipulations for an excellent double lift, but also shows many fine details not usually addressed.

Liked and subscribed.
@saderguy you could just flip the three cards over and say you accidentally picked up two cards... then do your double lift again, not that major of a problem.
will this tutorial teach me how to get a pentakill?
It'll improve your vayne mechanics
Koruohiatain ???
Ludvig Jensen There is a professional league of legends player named doublelift. He named himself after this very card trick. The terms the two above you are using refer to him and the game itself.
Retrorummage no
all my cards always clump together xD a 25 card lift isn't very conniving hahaha
Get bicycles, or if they are bicycles you probably need new ones :P
don't use old cards that were used while snacking
I honestly thought it would be a 2 or 3 part tutorial, so I'm glad just this one video seems to be helping everyone a lot.
@axelilc777 I think that's wise, I learned how to do it that way, but I didn't rely to heavily on it.
The double lift is so frustrating and hard to master!
Yeah
+Bob Marley Very late but its best to slowly learn the mechanics of the move then work on speed. quality over quantity.
Did you get it yet?
the camera angle at 3.21 is amazing! helps so much
Double lift is a hard one, but I will keep at it. Nice little move you did at 0:07 . I am new to this cardmagic, where should a complete beginner start? I learned some fake shuffles so far. I feel like a general feel and control of the deck is needed before I even think about fooling anyone...
@qnoobcakep if it's the one handed shuffle, I have a tutorial for it, just gotta search
amazing double lift tutorial. Best out there. Gave it a day of practice and am pretty consistent with it now. TY!
When doing the variation described at 8:34 (when you have a break), I recommend still making the push off motion with the left thumb. It looks more natural as though you're dealing the top card over.

Im having issues with too many cards sliding over in 1 chunk. like i get 3 or 4 cards when i slide it over with my thumb, any suggestions?
It's a snap change, search for it in my tutorials, it's called the Snap Change.
3-5 weeks to get 'good' like 6-12 weeks to do it pretty flawlessly each time, it takes practice, all this stuff does
i have problems with double lifts all the time. This one is really nice. more than half the time i end with two cards without even noticing it. after a while it's harder to lift a single card. =)
i find it 100 times easier to riffle the back of the cards counting 2 cards with my thumb, but this double lift came in handy lots of times, especially around larger crowds
The doubles I can do are the strike the push of and the "52kards" double lift and the push of is my favourite
As a magician who has small hands, i find that the best way to do a double lift is to get at least good (6 out of 10 skill rating) and master verbal misdirection. ooops wrong doublelift xD, was meant to click on league of legends doublelift video
I used to always get three, just get the feel of having two cards by pushing it off the top more than u would. Then, keep lowering the amount u push off until u get it right.

Hi ! Thanks for the tutorial :)
How did you do the jump from the bottom to The top (At 6:12) ?
This is the only double lift that works well for me. thanks for the video!
I used Brad Christians tutorial... At first I really struggled with this DL, and was very frustrated. The secret is very minimal pressure and practice daily. It took me about 4 weeks. This one came really easy to me compared to some of the others, thanks!
lol i got distracted by that awesome snap change, so i spent the next day or so learning that and forgot all about watching this XD
I personaly prefer the strike double lift for one reason, it's not as fancy as the push off double lift. BEST TUTORIAL ON RUclips!
What is that trick called? The one where he switches the cards really quickly @1:06.
It seems cool and I want to learn how to do it.
bro there's an annotation, its the snap change, really fun and cool if you can learn it, it freaks people out
The cards don't stay together if I keep my fingers loose while flipping them. Any suggestions?
Pushing off with my thumb, I find I separate too many cards, just like you did getting three in the tutorial. How do you fix that?
Awesome videos, I just subbed because you still reply to comments even on a 2 year old video. That's cool man. Also although I'm only a beginner I think this is the best double lift I've tried. I even find it easier to do than others.
try catching a break by riffling the cards first and stopping right when you get to two cards makes sure to make it look natural
How do you get the cards not to slip? The 2 cards always slip, and i end up showing both cards on accident. Any tips?
This is a great double lift, but if you want to up it's reliability (or the reliability of any lift), you should train the pinky count. The pink count is, imo, one of the top 5 slights.
Do you have any other suggestions I can only get three that's the only number of cards I can get and it is irritating me
@xXTwIsTeDxAcEXx there are more ways than one to do a double lift. And people are probably just being nice to you because you're 14 and don't want to call you out on your flaws.
hey man im gonna really practice this, double lift is a key element in magic, and by the way you do it so clean!
The one thing I see you do and I’m not sure if it’s habit but you hold the cards the entire turnover. Let it drop. Don’t be afraid of it. It looks so much more natural. Love your videos btw
It's in Part Two of my Ambitious Card Tutorial
hey bro, is that bicycle deck plastic or paper? i bought a paper one coated with plastic. and i'm not sure if this is recommended for practice. thanks ahead!

I totally, totally agree.
Gaston Maspero
me too !
Indeed there are other ways, better ways. Look up Vernon's double lift, it's impecable.
Gaston Maspero
that's the one i know. i refuse to believe this double lift would fool anyone with even a slightly trained eye
Does having small fingers and hands affect how well you can do magic tricks?
That thing about breaking your wrist to turn the card over. That's the thing I see that I most hate about people doing the DL. It's a common error I think for beginners. You don't have to do that. You can just push it with your finger and let gravity work it's magic.
Very good tutorial and very good technique! Thank you guy
can you do a tutorial on the move at the begining where byou set the card on the table?
im trying this and the card fan trick with bycicle cards but they are slippery and i can't get to split them as smoothly :(
elgato9o when i first got my bike cards they were the same. you get use to them and they slip a lil less over time
It doesn't belong to any particular person. He is merely asserting that it is the one he employs in his magic.
absolutely O_O flawless! thanks for the yet again great tutorial and btw thx for your comment on my channel, had no time to reply yet but thanks for the offer! keep up the great work
This is the best one. I always use it now

your good what you do bud I learn a lot from you:) thank you
check out my channel
Cc magic trick revealed.
Can someone explain to me what is he doing at 5:33? I don't get it.(completely new to all that stuff, so please no hate)
What do you mean?
He basically using double lifts over and over again to make It look like the card goes in the middle them jumps to the top when it just stays on top
My cards doesnt spread that close they always spread down wich kinda gives it away according to me, I haven´t tried it on ppl yet because of this, any tips?
I don't really care about what most people do, I'm here for push-off, nothing else. You mentioned other people's double lift so often.
seems almost like you dont like very much other double lift or triple lift then the push-off one.
i kind of disagree, i think they are all awesome move when used at the proper time and with the right trick !
well done tutorial, liked it !
I like this
Okay, now show me Vayne mechanics.
best adc
I just tried to pull off two card monte and I got caught on the push off double lift.
It is soooooo hard.!
GREAT lesson...you teach well, thanks.
That has gotta be the cleanest double lifting I have ever seen! Thanks :)
Good stuff! I like to watch David Blaine do these lifts, he does them so naturally, its impossible to suspect what he's doing.
Great tutorial, well explained. Thanks.
gimme a tutorial on that shuffle it looks epic
Excellent tutorial! I'm practicing doing this as a triple lift, do you have any tips for that?
do this it happens for 3 every damn time.
Damn, Doublelift is OP.
Dang that was a good ass snap change at 1:07
Nah man, just regular Bicycle Rider back
My marlo tilt seems to be more angle sensitive no matter what, does anyone have and tips on how to get the right angle? any replys will be MUCH appreciated.
Whats the trick after the double lift at 1:07 called??
Demanon K. its sanp change
i use a thumb count then i use the stewart gorden double lift from theory 11
thx so much for the awesome tutorials!
I keep doing involuntary triple lifts instead of double lifts ><
And it happens in the video as well, with the cards handeled by an experienced magician...
The little rifle thing makes it easier to grab only two cards but it's also less stealthy
Thank you for the tutorial. Great explanation great move.
andyfieldmagic has a good tutorial on the strike double lift
I have an important question, are you left or right handed?
just one tip on the double lift, the way you flip the cards back on the deck is too quick, too noisy and unnatural. you should just let the card slide off to the side then just give it a little push and they won't separate. , that's just my opinion. Also, i think you should check out daryl's double lift, it's a really good one imo. Anyway, that's just some constructive criticism that i hope will help you :)
the shoveling up part is where i always mess up.
Just Awesome, Nothing but Awesome and Smooth as Silk! Great Job!!!
He's better than you'll ever be.
when i try to do some cards wre sticking of what should i do ........please reply me..
when the cards get old they start to stick which make the double lift hard is there any way to overcome this.
Buy new cards lol
In 6.08 - how do you put the the joker in the top of the deck??
What was the snap change variation he did at the beginning called
I believe it's called the snap change
+NotAWoman lol
