+Zewills My tip for this is to put your favourite card/ace of spades in the second position, and your two least favourite cards third and first. Then you'll know.
Those commenting that it is too hard, just remember the key is practice, just keep replaying the video and follow along, continue following WITH the video until u think u got it, then try it on your own, just keep practicing. Whenever u pick up your cards, try this three times, that's a good way to practice without getting sick of it. These tactics help me. Just trying to be helpful. :D
it's more coordination than strength in my opinion. You just gradually build up to it. Took me 5 months to get a decent pinky count, it is not an easy move and takes ongoing practice and lots of patience.
it is actually quite easy. i am only 13 and i mastered it within a month. the way i do it,i don't need a lot of strength from my pinkie. instead, i pull down the right top corner(i am right handed) and a little with the pinkie and the cards just pop out. All u need to do is to keep doing it over and over again, no special practice is needed. 😊
you really dont need a "strong" pinkie, you just need coordination in the pinky. Don't practice a pinky count trying to strengthen your pinky, very little pressure is needed
I am using a normal deck in this video (no rough and smooth card). 1:04 is the same technique as 3:06. The outjog at 5:30 is not a risk because the card is pulled flush with the deck less than a second after the card is outjogged. It is only used to regain a pinky break.
Here is a tip: try to keep your ring finger at the half of the card edge not at the bottom because if you keep it at the bottom cards are more likely going to separate and if you keep in near the middle they will stay together.
Hi.. I've been trying to learn magic for a while now.. I really liked this double lift, but I have a problem.. When I try to push both cards together with my thumb (as in 2:33) they always split apart, I can't find the way to keep them together. Any suggestions?
what you have to do is, once you have that pinky break, transfer it to a ring finger break, and then, while you push those two cards over with your thumb, you also move your ring finger in the same direction.
At the start of this year I thought I would never be able to do this sleight let alone master it. I just started to learn this again and now it's easier woohoo!
Some sleight of hand techiques can be difficult with 100% plastic cards. I recommend using paper (anything made by the US Playing Card Company is good).
Tip for a really good card control I came up with using these same techniques: Dribble cards to your left hand and ask a spectator to call stop. As you ask them whether this is the card they would like, do a pinky count under two cards and do a two card pushover. Point to the pushed over double as you verify that this is the card they would like. Proceed to lift up your left hand in order to give them a peek of their pushed over selection. While you do this, pull back the top card of the double (random card) flush with the rest of the deck as you use your left hands 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers to push the selected card further over. When they have memorized the selection, lower your left hand back down and at the same time pull the selected card flush with the deck. Push the random card above the selection over as you lower your hand or soon after. Immediately make a one handed fan with the right hand portion of the deck and insert the random card (which the spectators think is their selection) somewhere in the fan. Congrats! You can now ask the spectator to push their presumed card in, which gives you plenty of time to dump the actual selection in your lap, under your thigh or whatever. You can also leave it on the left hand packet and place the closed fan inside the left hand packet leaving the selection on top.
Man, this is the best DL video on the net. It's the most natural looking DL and your explanation is perfect. Thanks so much for this. Mastering this DL will greatly improve anyone's card magic immediately.
To whoever is having a hard time learning this(exspecially if you are a beginner and dont know how to do any double lift's): Try combining this tutorial with Jarek1:20's for double lift. Those are 2 different double lifts, but when you combine the best out of 2 worlds it's very easy. So all you do is, you get that pinkie break then transfer it to the ringfinger break and slightly lift those 2 cards, just slightly. Then you do the Jarek's part. Just watch his tutorial and combine the 2 like i said
Wonderful double. One of the most important parts of this is that it doesn't look like you're being careful with the cards, which is perfect. I can't remember whether out was Erdnase or Vernon who said it, but the basic idea was that cards are light and delicate, so it is suspect when one handles them like cinder blocks. The pushover, the drop. Perfect examples of this principle. We'll done.
Thank you, this helped a lot. I've been struggling with my double lift, and 7 years later this is still the best video to date. Plus I got it on my first try :D
I'm struggling with making sure that both cards move together in unison. Are there any tips I might be missing for that? It is a fine motor movement to coordinate those two fingers in unison... but I'm always getting the top two shifting and not moving together. any tips on controlling that would be awesome.
Seamless handling as always Asad. I too prefer this style of a double lift. I learned the push over double without a pinky break, but the way you perform this makes them look identical apart from minute things the audience won't see. I've never been a fan of the David Blaine push over double where the cards are awkwardly turned upside down at an angel at the top right and bottom left and scooped forward. It works for him and others who use it, but it just looks so unnatural. IMO it make even ppl who have never seen magic subliminally think "he did something there." This style of a double is natural and mimics the way everyone else would turn a card over seamlessly. I practice all sleights by mimicking it with what the real thing looks like. If they match, you're doing it right.
Well, i've seen a lot of double lift tutorials. When i saw this video's title, i was like: "what the hell, let's see why he thinks his double is so special, it's probably not". Oh, i was wrong... I've never seen such a smooth and natural double lift, and even if it was the title of the video, i did not catch you the first time. I did not think it was possible to do a double lift with a pushover. Amazing. Liked and subscribed
This is not a variation on the Dai Vernon's DL. The author of this is Arturo de Ascanio, Master of Masters from spain, and the real name of the move is "La Avanzadilla" which apears on his book "La magia de Ascanio II"
Asad, are you able to do this lift with a new deck of cards without the cards separated upon being flipped over like that? I can do it with a fairly worn deck, but new cards are a no go. Should i practice more, or is it not possible?
Just bend the cards a bit more. You do it by pinching the cards between left thumb and third finger. The pinching/bend helps keeping the cards together. You can easily let go with the left thumb and middle finger and let just the right forefinger (and maybe the middle phalanx of the right, bended middle finger) turning over the card. The cards will stay together, it looks very loose, effort-and tensionless and works with a slippery new deck. Just tilt the deck a bit to the right. This will help concealing the bigger break you have to get before the pushoff and also let gravity help after you let go with the left hand while the left finger is turning over the double. In fact, you can even do a one-handed DT with this pushoff.
eric shoff I would recommend David Williamson`s Ridiculous-DVD`s. He has some great tips on this turnover. Maybe it`s a bit too expensive for just learning this sleight, but the rest of the stuff is absolutely great, too. Relax while doing this turnover. Do it slow until the pushing-pulling action of the left ring finger and thumb becomes second nature. Don`t forget to tilt the deck slightly to the right. It`s not the easiest double and it feels arckward and counter.intuitive (but it looks very natural) in the beginning. In fact, I practiced this pushoff long before I had the DVD and learned from the books. It wasn`t my first choice until I saw David`s handling which worked better for me and was an eye-opener.
getting this pretty reliably in just a couple days! my lift has looked almost identical apart from pushing the double over (i just reached under the break), definitely love this a lot more!
It is possible to do this double as I have just done it several times. Works great if you mime pushing over with the thumb more than push down. Concentration is more on the fingers pulling the card to the side. This is a good video. The out jogging of the card is better done by an experienced card handler.nice.
At 0:10-0:14 What is that thing he does where he bends the cards before and after he reveals it? It makes a bending card sound thing too. Can anyone tell me? Thanks :)
This is a very good tutorial for this Vernon double, I would also recommend checking out the Aaron Fisher double turnover, personally I use this and Vernons simplified turnover where you use both hands. However if you are new to this kind of turnover you should check it out. (If you don't want to buy his pathways to mastery lesson he has a youtube channel where he shares his toughts on many sleights)
I learned a double lift that is similar to this one You also use a ringfinger break and bend the card a little. But after you bent it you let go of your thumb and slide the cards out. It's got the same basic idea as this one, but you let go of thumb except that you slide the cards out Daniel Garcia often uses this double lift
you can also just do a strike double lift to turn the card over and leave it outjogged a little if you are having trouble with the pinky count, then do what asad does at like 6:20
Hey, thanks for the tutorial. They are always very well executed and explained! I just have a quick question, does this manoeuvre work for you to the same effect with the a triple lift?
Hey Asad, you have an old monte video with two Jokers and a Queen, and then there is a surprise ending. I was able to figure it out (certainly not because you do it badly), and I now perform it regularly with great reactions. It is the effect people come to me to see. I am not asking for a tutorial, just asking if it is your original routine.
thank you! i have always had problems finding the perfect double lift for myself but now i have found it! it's so natural and after a bit of practice it's easy!
How do your cards stick so well?? Even when you let loose ur grip a sec and the to 2 slide down they are 1...even the flip over theres zero seperation or square up needed.
Elmer's glue, school glue, duck tape, double sided tape, super glue, gorilla tape, gum, sticky notes, clear tape, paper tape, wiring tape, black tape, wood glue, tree sap, honey, candy, melted gummy candy, and animal saliva. But I also have this question too I think u have smooth back cards u need rough back cards I saw this info somewhere forgot though.
Hey I've like super dwarf hand any tip for the mechanical grip you're using there coz I can't seem to bring my pinkie high enough to do the pinkie count and therefore the break...? Thanks in advance for replying
Asad a question. Do you really push with your thumb and ring finger when doing the push over like applying much pressure or do you do it with a light touch?
though I'm not asad, i have been practicing this sleight for almost 6 months now. Use just enough pressure to keep the cards together, that's called efficiency - no reason to apply tons of pressure when it's not needed.
ive been practicing this for all of 10 mins now and although im still a bit slow with all the movements it is as effective as it looks, no splitting apart even with an older deck. untill now i have literally been using my thumb just to count off 2 cards at the bottom and ive hated this, i will keep practicing this technique as its going straight into my repertoire, if you must criticize something like this at the very least give it a few tries first
Hi, I really want to thank you for this tutorial and I have one question: which double lift do you fthink is better or should I say better for layman - the david blane push over DL or the one you thought here. Because I've been playing around with the pushover DL this summer and i just got used to it, but now after watching you tutorial I think that I should perfect this one.
Yeah. I find it easier grabbing them from two side corners to kind of keep them squared up. It looks a little more unnatural, but is much easier. You can progress from there I suppose. I think as long as you're 'act' or verbal/body language presentation is good, people won't notice as much if you're operating the cards a little abnormally. After all you're a magician, you're supposed to manipulating cards. Yes, using more 'natural' moves like this double-lift will help as well though.
I like the master push off double. Looks almost the same but doesn't require a break. However, this one is good because the cards is pushed from the middle rather than the side loke in the master push off
I have now mastered this move after 2 weeks of practice. It's really frustrating to learn at the start and it may even seem impossible but just keep trying every day for like 15 min and you're gonna get the move down
You have any advice moving from the pinkie break to a ring finger break? I find trying to transfer from one to another involves me losing the pinkie break :( Seems my ring finger is stuck to the deck and I can't move it off without moving my pinkie.
***** When moving from pinkie to ring finger break, try to put your thumb on the top of the deck hard the whole time. Further more, if you put the thumb on the top of the deck the whole time, it looks more natural.
Can you do a tuto on the Shawn Farquhar signed card in sealed packet card trick please??? No probs if you don't, but I zhink a good tuto like yours would help.
really nice lift and tutorial, concise, in depth and what a great assuring voice says you can do it (with practice) its all about practice gonna whip my bikes out right now.
Is there a reason some things you do with your left and some you do with your right on your channel? I thought you were right handed, but you hold the deck with your left in this video. Should I do it with my left if i'm right handed?
Asad, I have been practising the lift flat out for months, hours a day and CANNOT get the cards to fall as a unit, they most often than not, separate when they land, and the 'hidden' card juts out in front a little. How can i prevent this? Thanks
This lift almost drove me insane learning it. You’ll need to start with old cards, which are more sticky and easier to keep the cards together. It’s going to take a lot of time to get this lift down perfectly, assume a years worth of practice. Not that you can’t use it before that, but to get it flawless it probably did take me a year,
Great double lift, but I was wondering if you could perform it well too in front of people without them noticing.I admit that you're one of the greatest card sleight tutor but I have never seen you performing magic tricks (like street magic). I would be very happy if you could do it. :)
Doing tutorial and performing a trick are different thing. For instance, you can do a very good speech in your room but it would be different when you are doing it in front of lots of people. I won't acknowledge something that has not been done in real situation. I bet Assad can perform his expert double lift, but have you ever seen it being performed? unlike, Jarek 1:20 who did performed his double lift in tutorial and real life performance.
yes there is a video on jarek's channel that has asaad performing ambitious card Ill tell you when I find it, but yeah of course he can perform it. I understand what you mean that some tricks much harder to perform in real life, but this double lift has been very reliable for me and looks just as good in real performances.
I greatly appreciate your comment. Please let me know when you find the video when Assad performing ambitious card trick on Jarek's channel. Thanks a lot. :)
Thanks for the tutorial. I cannot get the cards to stick no matter how hard i try. Im also using an older deck of cards. Just wondering if I should be practicing this with a new deck.
Im using Bicycle cards with an air cushion finish and the cards literally just fall everywhere. Ive been practicing for days lol. What am I doing wrong here? Can I use any cards for this or do i need to use the cards in this video? Or am I just being impatient?
manji575 Use an old deck that's become a bit "sticky" like how standard bicycle decks become after a few months of use. It'll allow you to do double and triple lifts a little easier. Once you can do it really well you should be able to do it with a new "smooth" deck.
Thanks Assad. But might i ask your opinions (or anyone that is reading this comment) i've tried learning all double lifts and i came to a road of where i think two of this double lifts are convincing, Asad's double lift and David Blaine's double lift. Sometimes i find that David does a better double lift but im not sure i do Asad's DL and people were like "thats more natural." What do you think Asad (or any other magicians who is reading this) hope i get a fast reply for this coz im gonna be doing some tricks in my friend's birthday party. Thankyou :)
For the party, do whichever double lift you can do more consistently and are comfortable with. Most people will be fooled by almost any double lift if you do it casually and smoothly. As for which is more convincing, it's my personal opinion that this double lift, which is actually a slight variation of Dai Vernon's double lift, is more natural and convincing, and also more consistent due to having a break. David Blaine's double lift (the knockout double) is good, but it's easy to do a triple lift by accident, especially if the deck of cards is older and slightly sticky.
eric shoff yeah i think so too. I finally came to a conclusion that this is the one of the most convincing, easy, smooth, aaaand natural. My second is stuart gordon's double lift. Thanks anyway :D
+eric shoff that's true...I've been using blaine's DB for 3 days and I can do the double lift, but sometimes it really get on my nerves how easy you can get 3 cards instead of 2..I'm considering using this one know,It looks more natural to me(Btw,I'm still in this world of magic!).

who in the world has a strong enough pinky to rifle down 2 cards please tell me what kind of pinky exercise do you do
Just keep trying, eventually one day it'll just click and become consistent
it's more coordination than strength in my opinion. You just gradually build up to it. Took me 5 months to get a decent pinky count, it is not an easy move and takes ongoing practice and lots of patience.

what you have to do is, once you have that pinky break, transfer it to a ring finger break, and then, while you push those two cards over with your thumb, you also move your ring finger in the same direction.
probably because your hand is small like mine, half the deck then you will be able to do it.
when he pushes two cards with the thumb he is keeping the thumb on top and not letting the cards split, so you can grab them easily
Good luck! I'm sure it will be a fun ride.
Great vid

This is Hands Down THE Best Double-Lift i've ever seen
I'm struggling with making sure that both cards move together in unison. Are there any tips I might be missing for that? It is a fine motor movement to coordinate those two fingers in unison... but I'm always getting the top two shifting and not moving together. any tips on controlling that would be awesome.
this is insane. even if we sit in performer's angle it still can cheat the eyes. good job!

It is more difficult with slippery cards, but still absolutely possible.
Zeddicus1976 if i do the pushover and let go with my thumb the cards inevitably separate, no matter if i bend them a lot or a little

I would recommend David Williamson`s Ridiculous-DVD`s. He has some great tips on this turnover. Maybe it`s a bit too expensive for just learning this sleight, but the rest of the stuff is absolutely great, too.

You also use a ringfinger break and bend the card a little. But after you bent it you let go of your thumb and slide the cards out.
It's got the same basic idea as this one, but you let go of thumb except that you slide the cards out
Daniel Garcia often uses this double lift
Martii Mísery ok
What a great double lift! I personally use a strike double lift and it hasn't failed me, but this looks so good, too.
you can also just do a strike double lift to turn the card over and leave it outjogged a little if you are having trouble with the pinky count, then do what asad does at like 6:20

Hands don't work that way..Haha... I'm stuck with these hands forever haha
Just get a break a different way or get a smaller deck of cards. They make decks much smaller than normal decks.
really good one, thanks for uploading videos,i like them very much, btw for doing tricks,is it better to use 100% plastic cards or not?
Watching this 9 years later and this video helped a lot
Asad a question. Do you really push with your thumb and ring finger when doing the push over like applying much pressure or do you do it with a light touch?
though I'm not asad, i have been practicing this sleight for almost 6 months now. Use just enough pressure to keep the cards together, that's called efficiency - no reason to apply tons of pressure when it's not needed.
ive been practicing this for all of 10 mins now and although im still a bit slow with all the movements it is as effective as it looks, no splitting apart even with an older deck. untill now i have literally been using my thumb just to count off 2 cards at the bottom and ive hated this, i will keep practicing this technique as its going straight into my repertoire, if you must criticize something like this at the very least give it a few tries first
You, disturb reality, and Mishnah inspire me to do magic thank you
Is it basic cheap paper deck of cards? It seems I cannot do properly double lift with my cheap paper deck!
I have just opened a new deck and my push off double lift is perfect. It is impossible for me to do with that new deck. What I can do?
how does one stop the cards from separating upon picking them up with the right hand? Is it in the pressure of how you pinch them?
What a fantastic tutorial, thanks so much. You make a difficult technique look so natural. I just need to practice for weeks/months/years now!
Damn, this one is tremendous.
Thanks, Asad, will be using that as my main double lift now, I think.
Even though I know *exactly* what he did the entire video, the Jack at the end surprised me. It's so natural it can fool you even when you know.
I like the master push off double. Looks almost the same but doesn't require a break. However, this one is good because the cards is pushed from the middle rather than the side loke in the master push off
I have now mastered this move after 2 weeks of practice. It's really frustrating to learn at the start and it may even seem impossible but just keep trying every day for like 15 min and you're gonna get the move down
What is your opinion on the push of double lift
You have any advice moving from the pinkie break to a ring finger break? I find trying to transfer from one to another involves me losing the pinkie break :( Seems my ring finger is stuck to the deck and I can't move it off without moving my pinkie.
***** When moving from pinkie to ring finger break, try to put your thumb on the top of the deck hard the whole time. Further more, if you put the thumb on the top of the deck the whole time, it looks more natural.
just practicing more is the answer, getting independence between the fingers
Great job!! It would sweet if you made an intro to your videos! Keep up the great work!
Can you do a tuto on the Shawn Farquhar signed card in sealed packet card trick please??? No probs if you don't, but I zhink a good tuto like yours would help.
i love this tutorial, i had trouble in 2lift. this is look really natural deceptive
I really love what U do man by the way what camera do U use?
Is "Stars of Magic" a book? Where can I buy it?
Tnx
I really like your videos, and I was wondering if you could do a deck review on the Bicycle Arch Angels deck
I actually got it first try, thanks for the tutorial, really useful
really nice lift and tutorial, concise, in depth and what a great assuring voice says you can do it (with practice) its all about practice gonna whip my bikes out right now.
Nice tutorial Asad, very easy and simple.
So would you recommend using this double lift or a david blaine style double lift? (taught by Jarek20)
Thanks
jesse burgess Break the deck in. Give it some shuffles to get of the new card slickness.Asad has a tutorial on this on his website I believe.
I have plastic coating cards they are slippery it is hard to do double lifts should I practice more or should I buy a other deck?
please make more tutorials, I'd personally like to one for the lePaul spread
Assad have u done street magic before??
Is it just me or is this nearly impossible to do with new cards? I can do it fine with oldish cards :(
TheVideoCollector newer cards are more difficult they are much more slippery than an older deck
This lift almost drove me insane learning it. You’ll need to start with old cards, which are more sticky and easier to keep the cards together. It’s going to take a lot of time to get this lift down perfectly, assume a years worth of practice. Not that you can’t use it before that, but to get it flawless it probably did take me a year,
i used to watch your vid when i was kid learned so much tricks from you thanks
please help i can do the ring finger part but as soon as i push with the thumb the 2 cards split
Great double lift, but I was wondering if you could perform it well too in front of people without them noticing.I admit that you're one of the greatest card sleight tutor but I have never seen you performing magic tricks (like street magic). I would be very happy if you could do it. :)
of course he can!
Doing tutorial and performing a trick are different thing.
For instance, you can do a very good speech in your room but it would be
different when you are doing it in front of lots of people. I won't acknowledge
something that has not been done in real situation. I bet Assad can perform his
expert double lift, but have you ever seen it being performed? unlike, Jarek
1:20 who did performed his double lift in tutorial and real life performance.
yes there is a video on jarek's channel that has asaad performing ambitious card Ill tell you when I find it, but yeah of course he can perform it.
youtube paintbrush change performance its on disturbreality channel
Thank you for the tip :) ill keep trying! (its getting better)
how long has it taken you guys to learn?
Very nice move, thanks. Vallarino has one with a push off without the pinkie break but only pros can do it I think...
Can you do pls a tutorial for the Dragon Cut?
Which double lift is better, this 2 card push over or the strike double lift?
Strike os easier, 2 cards push off is more natural
Anyone know what deck that is?
I always put the name of the deck in the description box.
that is legends deck it is availible on ebay
BronzDano it is the legends deck.
How do you stop the spectator from seeing the cards separated from the front when they are slightly curved?
Great! Thanks for video
That is really the best double lift! Thanks man :)
+iCrazy Luke now* (can't edit my comment on my phone..)
both david blaines double and vernons (this one) are very difficult to master. I think they're both about the same difficulty.
Cn anyone help me plz, how do i stop the cards from seperating when i do the push over? Is it just practice or am i doing something wrong?
Hi Asad. This sleight can also be found in The Dai Vernon Book of Magic.
