I got it! I can push over two cards now and here's what I learned: It's all about WHERE you touch the two cards with your thumb. I mean where on your thumb, not where on the cards. Experiment with places - as he says - between your thumbprint and your nail until two cards start sliding over as one. For me, it is where the nail goes into the skin on the left side, i.e. if you were clipping your thumbnail, it would be the farthest left side of where you clip. Important point: Don't roll your thumb over (so that the thumbprint starts to touch the cards) otherwise the cards will split. You have to keep that one exact spot (that you found) in contact with the cards. There, my contribution to humanity. Well, that tiny, weird slice of humanity that is learning card magic, I guess. Now all I have to perfect is how to keep the other cards from sliding over, which according to Alex, is a matter for the fingers of the left hand. If anybody has any hints on how to master this, please let me/us know. Thanks and good luck, people!

Note: my card doesn't split..both card stays together exactly like one ...yet they catch me...how can i rectifie this. .please reply me

the double's one of the most common moves, but arguably the most difficult to do well. Simon Lovell picked it as his most difficult sleight saying something like, "When was the last time you really watched someone do it and fool you with it?"
This is an amazing tutorial. Every since I started magic I've been doing the Daryl double since it was the cleanest DL for me given that I could have never figured out how to do a pushover DL. After this video, it was the first time I was actually able to get a somewhat presentable push-over. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thank u thank u just thank u alex, I havr been playing magic for 6 month and im 12 yrs old right now and i usually use the riffle from the back when im performing but I really want to learn this double lift but its hard to find someone that i trust to teach me sleight of hand because in case if it is the wrong way, but if its u, i believe that it is one of the best way of doing it, thank u.
are there any tips on pushing of just two of the cards squared or does that come with practice? how should we get our thumb used to keeping only two of the cards squared and not more? great video again!
Yep, pretty much just practice. You will get a feel for one two three or more cards. As a matter of fact there are times when you may want more that two. Practice and get the feel of the cards. Don't forget, Alex has years of practice behind his double lift. It IS very nice isn't it.
great! yes I love those who are so perfect in spreading the cards and double lifts and "simple moves"... I do the strike double whenever I want to avoid pinkie breaks (which is all the time lately) but the push off seems the most natural...
i think pressure is the big key when first starting. doing it too light will only push off 1 card. too much pressure will push off more than 2. you need to find that center point and the correct amount of pressure and after a while it becomes second nature.
Great video! Honestly, I watched this tutorial some time ago, and thought this move to be far too difficult to perform. But as always, when I decided to give a second chance to this, and this time by paying much more focus on details in this video, I have to admit, that this move is much more easier to learn and do then I thought before. As always, sleight of hand is all about tiny intricate details! Thanks Alex!

Great tutorial Alex! Happy to see you teach the variation that the good magicians do. I also like that you told us why you use it and what to avoid. Very helpful and I will defiantly focus on learning this one till I nail it perfectly! Thanks! 😊
thanks so much for an awesome tutorial!!!! i've been searching for a while now for a good method that is both convincing and simple. a tip i came up with: when turning over the two cards, if you grab them with thumb and middle finger on the short sides, flip it over while putting pressure on the long edge of the cards into the deck. this helps to square the two cards together much easier. hope that helps!
thanks Alex, another piece in my tool box. And,since the double lift is THE most powerfull sleight in all of card magic (imo) you can never have/know enough variations of this beautyfull sleight.

Hey Alex, thanks for this. There are a lot of tuts for the double, but this is probably my favorite, you go into a great amount of detail, answering many questions.
Very nice tutorial. But since you don't do any count/break, how can you be certain you are pushing off 2 cards (and not 1 or 3 or more) without focusing your attention on your hands as you are making the move? Of course we don't want to alert spectators that we are trying something by being super intent on the move, we should do the move without focusing our attention on it right? Is it reliable, after practice, to do this move without checking that we are pushing off two cards? Do you find this a reliable double lift or do you sometimes accidentally do a single lift or a triple lift?
Just practice doing it with 1 card over and over. Then practice it with the double. You will feel the difference between 1 or 2 or 3 ect... Practice, practice practice
Tottally feel the difference. Also depends on how thicc are the cards. Bicycle are noticeable, the pressed ones too, but you have to practice it. Sometimes you might push 3 instead of 2,but you will most probably notice it

Hello again, I just saw SL make a double lift on a video on the street. One of the worse I have ever seen, very "amatorish" as you said in another video. From people like him (he's not the only one), it is a huge surprise to see such bad move. I would if I could recommend him of learning your push-off double lift, but I wonder : do you think that in the street, in an open area, it's too risky to use the push off double lift? I don't think so, but if such famous professional do such ugly double lift, maybe there is a reason that goes beyond my understanding ????
Would be nice if you upload videos with high quality like 720p or 1080p or sth because HIGH QUALITY content demand HIGH QUALITY videos :) Wish you best. Great Video :)
Hey Alex I'm a big fan of you, I bought it brick pass and it really helped my pass but i need some tips No matter how I do it the bottom keeps flashing cuz my hands are small. I hand to move the bottom packet a huge distance in order to cover it and I already have a huge angle downwards. Any advice? Thanks
Thank you Akex, I'm a beginner, i 'm trying to get what I think are the basic moves down, and one of them is of course the double lift. The idea of not getting a pinky break to do the double lift suits me, since i still can't manage one really naturally :) I tried what you said and I must say, i'm gettting better results than when I tried to do it without having considered the pivot at the base of the thumb
I think you should've emphasized more on how to push two cards, am kinda confused as to how i should do it.

I think that it’s because it’s easy to do bad lifts and it “works” (most of the time)
No way this is beginner's trick
This is great! Very helpfull!
For second deal also
Would be nice if you upload videos with high quality like 720p or 1080p or sth because HIGH QUALITY content demand HIGH QUALITY videos :) Wish you best. Great Video :)
Hey Alex I'm a big fan of you, I bought it brick pass and it really helped my pass but i need some tips
No matter how I do it the bottom keeps flashing cuz my hands are small. I hand to move the bottom packet a huge distance in order to cover it and I already have a huge angle downwards.
Any advice? Thanks
My cards are too bad to make it happen :(
Nice video! It would be cool if you had a big window not between you fingers but as a light source, or a nice lamp. It would make the videos crisp. ❤️
Thanks for the tip! it was 2am when I shot this so the window thing wouldn't have been much help on this one. I def need better lighting though..
Just can't do it. Tried for years, have to do it an easier way. Doesn't look as good, but all I can do.
