You have the best double lift I've ever seen...and I've watched A LOT of magicians. Yours by far is the most smooth and relaxed - it looks completely natural. All respect.
I got it! I can push over two cards now and here's what I learned: It's all about WHERE you touch the two cards with your thumb. I mean where on your thumb, not where on the cards. Experiment with places - as he says - between your thumbprint and your nail until two cards start sliding over as one. For me, it is where the nail goes into the skin on the left side, i.e. if you were clipping your thumbnail, it would be the farthest left side of where you clip. Important point: Don't roll your thumb over (so that the thumbprint starts to touch the cards) otherwise the cards will split. You have to keep that one exact spot (that you found) in contact with the cards. There, my contribution to humanity. Well, that tiny, weird slice of humanity that is learning card magic, I guess. Now all I have to perfect is how to keep the other cards from sliding over, which according to Alex, is a matter for the fingers of the left hand. If anybody has any hints on how to master this, please let me/us know. Thanks and good luck, people!

After this video, it was the first time I was actually able to get a somewhat presentable push-over. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

thanks so much for an awesome tutorial!!!! i've been searching for a while now for a good method that is both convincing and simple. a tip i came up with: when turning over the two cards, if you grab them with thumb and middle finger on the short sides, flip it over while putting pressure on the long edge of the cards into the deck. this helps to square the two cards together much easier. hope that helps!
A very important point that you didn’t mention but do sooo well is you turn the double exactly as you do the single. Not only that but you also do it very natural as if anyone would grab a deck and turn over a single card. Those little things you do make you just that much better than everyone else in my opinion. are there any tips on pushing of just two of the cards squared or does that come with practice? how should we get our thumb used to keeping only two of the cards squared and not more? great video again!
Yep, pretty much just practice. You will get a feel for one two three or more cards. As a matter of fact there are times when you may want more that two. Practice and get the feel of the cards. Don't forget, Alex has years of practice behind his double lift. It IS very nice isn't it.
great! yes I love those who are so perfect in spreading the cards and double lifts and "simple moves"... I do the strike double whenever I want to avoid pinkie breaks (which is all the time lately) but the push off seems the most natural...
i think pressure is the big key when first starting. doing it too light will only push off 1 card. too much pressure will push off more than 2. you need to find that center point and the correct amount of pressure and after a while it becomes second nature.
Revisiting this video after learning the move 6 months ago. Thanks a lot for your tutorials, they really help a lot. This double lift is great! I´m still very bad at it, but sometimes while practising I even fool myself thinking I only turned one card while in reality the move worked as intended...
Thank you Akex, I'm a beginner, i 'm trying to get what I think are the basic moves down, and one of them is of course the double lift. The idea of not getting a pinky break to do the double lift suits me, since i still can't manage one really naturally :) I tried what you said and I must say, i'm gettting better results than when I tried to do it without having considered the pivot at the base of the thumb
Okay, here's another I'd your videos that filled in a piece I've been missing so far: thumb pressure. I've been pressing down way too hard. I've still got hours of practice ahead of me, but nowhere near as many as I had, 15 minutes ago. Thanks, Alex.

Nice one Alex! I would love to see a follow up to this video where you talk about the misdirection for the double lift (turnover) because it is equally important as the sleight itself.

Very nice tutorial. But since you don't do any count/break, how can you be certain you are pushing off 2 cards (and not 1 or 3 or more) without focusing your attention on your hands as you are making the move? Of course we don't want to alert spectators that we are trying something by being super intent on the move, we should do the move without focusing our attention on it right? Is it reliable, after practice, to do this move without checking that we are pushing off two cards? Do you find this a reliable double lift or do you sometimes accidentally do a single lift or a triple lift?
Just practice doing it with 1 card over and over. Then practice it with the double. You will feel the difference between 1 or 2 or 3 ect... Practice, practice practice
Tottally feel the difference. Also depends on how thicc are the cards. Bicycle are noticeable, the pressed ones too, but you have to practice it. Sometimes you might push 3 instead of 2,but you will most probably notice it

Hi Alex. I can do the pinky count double pushover like the Russian Genius performs it in no time and very clean too... but I have such a hard time to learn the pushover you are teaching. But I think it's a very good move and I am ambitious enough to learn it too. I guess it will take some weeks to handle it smoothly. Thank you for the great lesson :) Joy to you.
Hi there, Thank you for this tutorial. Very educational. I do have one question though and everyone is willing to answer it of course. How long does it takes to master that movement ? I mean, I understand we all are different and all, have differents skill and smartness and so on but I'm very curious to know how long did it take for people who wrotte comment were straigth begginers to learn that move ? Are we talking hours ? weeks ? months ?
Can you make it into a "Sleight Tutorial" playlist so I can save it to my playlists? Because, I will probably rewatch them all weekly to keep my card game strong. Thank you, Alex, for doing this for newcomers to the card magic world!
You can make your list of whatever?? i have few "projects" (things to do) "origami" (another hobby of mine where i keep origami tutorials) "magic" (here I keep tricks and sleights i like9 and so on....
@@igorsvacic217 yeah, that's what I do. I have a 'Magic +' for things I'm working on and a load of others ('Forces', 'Culls', 'Shuffles' etc) for things I want to move onto later.
This is a good tutorial, thanks! I've subscribed and am looking forward to what's up to come. The problem I see with the "little bend" "that's gonna keep everything together"... well, I've seen many people do it - but they only do it before a double lift. Every other time they don't do it... which makes the viewer suspicious. If there is extra moves then this is almost shouting "here, something just happened". At least that's my impression on this bend as an attentive non-magician viewer (I'm just starting out but even before I always felt like that move was very odd).
As someone who is familiar with the Strike double and is trying to learn the Push off, here are some of my thoughts on Strike vs Push Off: I think the biggest advantage of the Push Off over the Strike is that perfectly pushing off two cards acts as a great convincer. But also when doing a good Strike, it really looks as if you are only flipping over the top card. You just need to minimize the time where you feel for the top two cards, so it doesn't look like you are counting the cards. Also, when lifting the cards after you felt two, there might be a small gap between the top and second card visible from the front for a split second. That should also be avoided to get a good and convincing looking Strike. I believe most laymen won't even care whether you are doing Push off or Strike; both are equally fooling if performed well. A perfect push off might fool magicians though. In general, a DL should look clean, i.e. it has to look to the spectator as if you are really ONLY touching and turning over the top card of the deck. So NONE of the cards below the double (the top card in the spectator's eyes) should move while doing the double. The Strike double (and also any double with get-ready for that matter) has this inherently built in, while for the Push off, there is a risk of not getting the perfect two card Push Off and accidentally pushing off more that two cards, which is precisely the reason why so many of us struggle learning it. Finally, the Strike works well with decks of any quality, while the Push Off may require a relatively fresh deck.
While practicing this was so convincing that a few times I had to check to make sure I had a double and not an accidental single. The triple with one card push back is particularly convincing although I can't reliably hit it.
Great video man. I liked ypur way of thought on Chris Ramsay's video, about evolving technique by learning new harder moves even if they are not used. Im so looking foward to see your channel!

Very informational and awesome tutorial, absolutely love it.
Subscribed right after I learned the spring card control you did on Chris Ramsay's channel
Great tutorials, keep it up
Hi there, Thank you for this tutorial. Are we talking hours ? weeks ? months ?
I am really looking forward to this series
This has become one of my new favourite channels
wow thanks a lot! hope it will remain so!
Really appreciate your videos. Thank you!!
Loving this series. Keep it up!
GREAT Tutorial! Thank you
Any thoughts on Stewart Gordon double? Like proper ways to close it or turn it back over?
Finally a great magician teaching magic
Quick question - does the left thumb contact the very edge of the card when pushing off? Or is the thumb more on "top" of the cards?
Alex, what is your thought on pinky count vs pushoff?
You are very good at teaching bro ! Nice quality video
Great Way to do that double lift. Thanks
Well taught man..love to learn from the source or the master... thanks...
Yeah, I've seen a couple of your videos - you do a great job.
As someone who is familiar with the Strike double and is trying to learn the Push off, here are some of my thoughts on Strike vs Push Off:
I think the biggest advantage of the Push Off over the Strike is that perfectly pushing off two cards acts as a great convincer.
Great video ! Thanks ...any mentalism trick tutorial for the future ?
You are the best. I needed some good help on the double lift. This will help alot.

Such a great new channel --- even in it's infancy I think you're in Chris Ramsay league in terms of quality and how fast you'll gain followers. Just received 3 of your INSPIRE decks in the mail today... thanks for putting this out (I also bought your tutorial bundle) and I wish you continued success. All the best from California!
