None of these vehicles/trailers, were built for tall people where the average human height was 4'10"! Even the cars were not designed for anyone that had a tall torso when seated!
They had to consider how tall they could go up so they could accommodate going under a 14 ft or shorter bridge some bridges only have a height of 12 ft excess for going under it!
Holloway Debraal INC built a Jeep Comanche Motorhome, 1987 only 5 were made and only 3 are know to exist. I have 1 with only 83k miles on it. Going to freshen it up, undo some previous retrofits, add some 21st century upgrades, make it solar friendly, and hit the road or the off road (Its a Jeep and yes a 4x4). Who knows I might get lucky and find a 4 legged friend to ride along.
I really enjoyed this. Last summer I was at Lakeside Park in the New York by Lake Ontario and they had an Airstream show and I saw one of those really little ones it was park right by me. My camping consist of electric bike trailer tent and stuff you need and stuff you don't need
Did you ever freshen up that Jeep Comanche? If so did you take it off road? My late husband and I had several different RVs during our 40+ years together and also dreamed about a 4X4 but never managed it.
I am surprised that you did not include the Bluebird Wanderlodge in this video. I own the first of 10 prototypes built in 1964. The first production model happened mid 1965. I have repaired, replaced, and restored mine, and now live in it full-time. It is the perfect apartment on wheels. I have set in Alabama for the past three years, and due to weather, I am now having to pay attention to the exterior once again. I have photos if you are interested in adding it to a future video. Thanks, Freddie
I bet ya I include on the next classic camper video. I just hope there is media out there with interior images too. That's the challange making these classic or vintage anything videos. The pictures are usually very hard to come by. I have spent hrs/days just trying to find interiors on several of these campers. A lot of good ones I didn't include for that reason. Thanlks for the suggestion though, I appreciate that.
When I go on vacation, I want to feel like I'm on vacation. I don't want to do household chores and rarely cook unless it's cooking seafood I've caught; a small gasolene or propane burner is all I need. Motels and hotels stays in a lifetime are cheaper than one of these. Seen many an RV used once every few years and deteriorating in someones yard or car port.
What a great show of creativity! Thanks for showing! 22:07 Btw, 'Spaceballs' RULEZ! Never sawn it in original language, but even loved the german syncro ...
I own a 1972 boler American camper trailer that was extensivly customized in 2018. It was taken to the 2018 boler ralley in Winnepeg, BC in Canada where over 450 bolers were on display not too far from the original factory.
I lived in a 42 ft. Spartan Imperial Mansion built in 1948 with 400sq ft. Found it on Craigslist for $2300. I had it refurbished inside. What an amazing camper.
When you install a pop up on a trailer you literally cut the lifespan of that trailer down by 80%. Please people.. just stop. I'm able to buy and rebuild campers that are 80 years old. 80 years from now you will not be able to do that on the modern trailers. Not to mention that modern trailers are built so lightweight and so cheaply that they literally rattled themselves apart.
Those GMC motorhomes were the real deal. They were front-wheel drive, so the deck height was very low. You didn't have to climb steep stairs to get inside. The plumbing was copper tubing, so it never broke. The build quality was awesome. They are still highly sought after today.
I had two, but had to sell one to afford moving the other. Currently renovating the one I have. Can't believe I have such an awesome and iconic vehicle. When I'm done, it will be an artistic masterpiece. Don't rush me, but if you want to support me, I won't be rude ... Unless you are. lol 😂
The picture shown for the 1992 Revcon trailblazer is definitely not a 1992 model or 1994 model. Great looking trucks but different F-generation body styles

Loved the program. Brought back memories of cars and campers I've restored over the years. In 1989 I bought an "Amigo" motorhome. I think it was a 1971 model. Ugly as hell, built on a Dodge drivetrain which was solid and dependable, but bottom line, one ugly motorhome! Of course, I loved it. The beauty of the camper was its simplicity in up keep and repair. Could pretty much do it all myself. I sold the Amigo 30 years ago. Miss it every now and then. I've looked online many timers to try and find one but no luck. I can't even find sources that the Amigo camper even existed! Can you help me ? Was there such a thing as the Amigo motorhome? Thanks a lot, Rod
Hello Roderick Hyde, thank you for watching! www.ebay.com/itm/143863967766 Here is a print ad that is for sale. Not much info on that motorhome though that I could find. Most post are real old.
My ass-hat father bought a 1937 International Harvester D-30 flatbed in 1971 , onto which he bolted a vintage Airstream trailer (chassis removed). He named it Bullwinkle and my brother and I illegally hung out in the Airstream on road/camping trips and kept bugging our parents by calling them on the intercom he’d wired for communication between the cab of the old truck and the camper. Mostly we camped in it on our land outside of Bend , Oregon. Was perfect for that and I can still smell the sagebrush.
I went on my first camping trip when I was five years old in a then brand new 1964 Airstream Overlander Land Yacht International travel trailer that was owned by friends of my family. I would never have dreamed at the time, but that trailer would one day become mine as unbeknownst to me, I purchased it from its second owners in 1995. I have owned that trailer for over 27 years now, and will likely keep it as long as I am able to trave. Over the years, I have had some minor restoration completed, but it still is mostly very well preserved original as is my 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre that I purchased from its original owner in 2002. During the interim, I camped with my parents in a 1969 Sunway 8.5-foot cabover truck camper mounted on a 1969 Chevrolet C-20 Pickup and my aunt in a 1970 Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile, My Airstream and Argosy are definitely my favorites for their versatility when traveling.
Somewhat unimportant, but interesting to me. the Rectrans Discoverer, from the same designer as the '63 Stingray, used a Chrysler 413 engine. Anyone familiar with the Beach Boys might remember the song Shut Down which was about a Stingray drag racing a 413. The Discoverer has a bit of both!
There is a Japanese camper you have shown, in which the roof opens up to create a second floor that really impresses me. The whole thing is mounted on a small truck, and was built by three students. who lived in it while travelling around Japan, for two years. A really clever piece of design.
You people drive me nuts with these "today's money" qualifications when you talk about the value of things. Who are you to say what it "would be" exactly, in "today's money". Because believe it or not, "today's money" is irrelevant. Because you are giving us all the other information in "yesteryears' contexts, I think k it's safe to give us their actual prices when they were sold. Then if you choose to follow up on where the motor homes are now, uou can tell us how much was spent in upgrading. It's just too confusing to suggest some random numbers that aren't comparably measurable the way it seems you're just suggesting. How did you do the math to arrive at thr conclusions here. Forgive me I'd i sound ignorant but these numbers sound pretty abstract.
7:12 I truly would love to own one these but I doubt if it is even available in my country and importing anything into my country is ridiculously expensive. I've been looking at these campers for years now. We have two vintage caravans my husband and I am working on at the moment, one will become my sewing/craft room and the other for camping. The deco liner is absolutely awesome, what a statement! Oh and the HHG model X, those windows are one of a kind, like some wonderful beach house. I just think it's stunning.
Some of the 70's motorhomes shown reminded me a lot of my Executive Class A from that period. It is a 31 foot fiberglass body motorhome, built on a Dodge chassis. The original owner, a retired military guy, had it converted, when it was new, to run on propane. The Big Dodge V-8 (could still run) and the built in Onan generator were both converted to propane only, with 180 gallons worth of propane tanks installed underneath. It just serves as a guest house at my place, with a wood burning stove I installed for heat. I call it the "Executive Suite", and keep the roof maintained. Have thought of restoring it, but am getting too old and poor to want to use a big old dinosaur RV... 🚫⛽🚌🕸
I have no idea what the "Futuristic looking RV" is, but the styling of it appeals to me. I think I would like to see the largest of the three models that was produced over the four year span. Pray tell, what does it look like on the inside?
@Fred brandon I think I am...It looks quite like a small interstellar ship in flight. That appeals to me a great deal. The slide in to the Vid asked if it was known what kind of RV it was. I do not, but I wouldn't mind seeing the inside of it. That's the one I mean.
@Fred brandon No, Mr. Brandon, there is a spot somewhere in the video above where they show an RV from the outside, from a few different angles, and while they are showing it, the Voice Over asks those of us who are viewing the video if we know what kind of RV it is and if we have knowledge of any of the details about the said RV. THAT is the RV I want to know about, because it's styling appeals to me very much. As I said above, they called it a "Futuristic Looking RV", now I'm assuming this is because they do not know what the actual brand name of the RV is. Do you have any knowledge of that particular RV? If so, please enlighten me.
Hello Pati Randall, thanks for the feedback! They are not on this video. Plus could be different prices as these are all classics and would have to be bought used.
I was a little disappointed that you didn't have anything on the GEM TRAVEL TRAILER COMPANY out of Kentwood Michigan a subberb of Grand Rapids Mi, Herman Shebout started the COMPANY with a small trailer called "Little Gem" I don't know the EST. year, Herman was a man you'd of thought he had a fire behind him,and I believe that's probably what caused his death when he was clearing a woods for a employee parking lot with a cage less bulldozer when a tree hit him and killed him in 1972. I only worked there the last two years of his life, I started out as the Yardman placing trailers according to size or too be sold first, I also learned the art of stick welding(which started my career in metal fabrication for the next forty yrs.)I figured Herman liked my work because of the nickel raise he gave me every wk. I left shortly after Herman died when a daughter took over the business and shortly went out of business after that, but I know for the many years he built his business with great pride, and he treated his employees very well as I was told and seen. 💯🇺🇸
Great for those that can afford that. we that see and comment most likely out of most financial means even those no longer on the market, are still costly. Shame to...
not even a mention of the Sun Lite campers of the 1990's, they made pop up, truck slide ins and pull campers, (Discovery) line we early hybrid with pop tops, and very well made .
26.05 - early models of the Hannomag 'Orion' were actually amphibious - a facility which was later dropped due to problems with the watertight door seals.
What an excellent program! Thank you for sharing all of these amazing and wonderful campers/mobile homes. Mostly, I really enjoyed your occasional snide remarks. 😜
This brought good memories back in my childhood I love to see more of it but it’s getting late so thank you for sharing this on here you just made my night I’m watching from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
In one of the Dean Martin MATT HELM MOVIES he drove a 1970's station wagon, when they stopped he pushed a button the back opened up and a tent with a floor unfolded and inflated, I never did figure out how they got that turret top refrigerator to unfold, they are made of steel. ( I know it was movieland magic, they wheeled the refrigerator in the tent when they were not filming).
Sorry dude you've got two cars confused the one that had the apartment tenant with a Lincoln Continental suicide door that the 10th apartment come out of the trunk the wagon you're talkin about was self-contained it was it was pretty fancy it had its own bad and stereo and bar and everything
I have an old Scamp that needs a lot of love, but I may want to sell it. It is a great candidate for restoration, but would it be worth the time and expense? Fantastic video my friend!
I`m still the proud owner of 20 ft 1972 Explorer with dodge running gear 413 ci bluprinted engine 727 transmission. It passes everything on a hill. Beautiful layout. Only downside was plywood sides covered in vinyl, lots of exterior maintenance. This article reminds me of a friend that used to own a Cortez 24 ft with a 225 slant 6, what hoot!
I found and traded a very complete Shasta camper for a bag of homegrown electric lettuce that was used as a drinking shack on a old farm in Medicine hat. It has the canned ham shape with Thor helmet wings as i like to call them. I will be restoring it in the near future after i finish restoring my 440 Cuda. I plan on pulling it behind my restored 1965 Impala big block.
@@tabp8448 No it was just one OZ. of home grown before it was legal to grow it so figure maybe 200.00 Canadian. It was just an abandoned summer night drinking/smoking shack to her. Tires were old but still held air so i hooked it up and brought it home. Still own it and still holding air.
You can see many elements in these campers that are found in the current trend of off road and all terrain campers. Bat wing'ish awning just after the intro for example. The emphasis on low weight and limited footprint. Ruggedized suspensions and canvas pop-ups. Good video, thanks.
Personally I have two choices for a vintage conversion. *My choice for RV conversion would be a Neoplan Jumbocruiser Articulated Double Decker bus to RV. *My choice for travel trailer would be a 1954 Ventoura Loft Liner converted to gooseneck travel trailer. Both options would be done up in a high-end art deco styling inside and out, so I could name either the Land Liner.
By the way, that Dodge Travco is NOT a Class A Motorhome. Motorhomes based on vans are Class B. I would have expect the producers of this video to actually know what they are talking about!!! Also, if that Glastron is 19' tall I'm the President of Peru!!!! And, by the way, you don't culminating INTO something. You culminating AS something. Finally (in for a dime, in for a dollar) it is IN which of these you were taking the trip NOT which of these you were taking the trip IN. I enjoyed your video - as you can tell, I WAS paying attention... My first experience was a 3 week trip with my parents in 1964 in their 56 Chev pulling about an 18' Shasta.
I don't care for the 'tent' style camper vehicles because of security reasons. Just not enough protection from criminals, wild animals and the elements. 4:48 - The Discoverer looks like the NASA Space Shuttle !!! 5:14 - Now we talkin' !!! I dig this camper! 5:38 - This be cool being pulled by a three wheel motorcycle! 6:17 - Classy. 7:39 - This one is on another level (pun intended). In a class of it's own .An alarm system would be absolutely necessary, for fear of people walking up the stairs in the rear. I would probably be 'one of those people' !!! The scooters (7:44) are FANTASTIC !!! 9:03 - A bit much. 14:46 - Interesting. Who needs a house with one of these?! 17:05 - Deluxe Hippy Mobile. The pop-up should have fiberglass sides, not tent material. "Going Mobile" The Who 17:47 - Been there, done that. The name "Snail" is fitting. I had a 1970 Volkswagon Westfalia camper van. "THE" Best vehicle I ever had by far. 18:59 - This one is a very clever and minimalistic design. 55:00 - This was me. 55:17 - My 70s VW campmobile. The pop-top hinged from the front, which technically, could have been driven with the top up, but I never tried it. 58:46 - This would be great for some gypsies or "Goth" kids !!! Or anyone with morbid tastes !!! Hearse-mobile! 59:15 - I could easily build this one myself! 59:25 - They'll never get that money back. 102:29 - This one is grooooovy. I could dig it !!! 125:49 - Mod.
This videos actually make me kind of sad. RVs used to be so cool, so many Unique Designs and personalities. Now it's just cookie cutter design. They all look exactly the same. No personality, no soul. I bought my first RV at the age of 15. My favorite was the 1976 American clipper, they built the series for a couple decades but the original design has some history to it. The American Clipper was a transport for the very last American passenger liner.
get hold of the 1940's movie "SULLIVAN'S TRAVELES Veronica Lake was the co-star I believe that Gary Cooper was the star, it was a really great motor home!!
I’ve been fan of camping starting in 60’s P. U. W/homemade wood shell, p. U. Camper, to 1:11:29 a few VW Westfalia, to now a M/Benz Sprinter Era w/duely rear wheels. But a few yrs ago at a car show in Sacramento I Had a Vintage bug reignited to go back to when I viewed a restored late 30s Airstream towed by a surfers 50 Woody. I’d appreciate similar referrals.

Hello practicalman45, thank you for watching!
I have no idea what the "Futuristic looking RV" is, but the styling of it appeals to me. I think I would like to see the largest of the three models that was produced over the four year span. Pray tell, what does it look like on the inside?
Hello George Busby, thank you for watching!
Hello, I'm just wondering where the prices are listed? Because I couldn't find them in the descriptions
Hello Pati Randall, thanks for the feedback! They are not on this video. Plus could be different prices as these are all classics and would have to be bought used.
I love these machines, I would give my leftie to have a few of them for myself!
Hello TJ Clarke, thank you for watching!
The Commer Camper Is not a TS3 opposite apposed 3 cylinder engine. That was for the much larger commercial vehicles. Love your video.
Hello RayCowdell, thanks for the feedback!
All the drama about a "Dutch Door," with no explanation of what it actually is. SMH...

Great for those that can afford that. we that see and comment most likely out of most financial means even those no longer on the market, are still costly. Shame to...
Hello Ailis Lincoln, thank you for watching! These are all older campers. They we're probably cheap back then. A lot cheaper for sure.
hipsters would hate the remodeling of a vw bus? that was weird so i had to look up what a hipster was in case it was me that didnt know. nope its you.
Hello Lily RO, thanks for the feedback!
I am pioneering the solar electric RV, and this video is good for stimulating ideas.
Hello Lynn Lionel Kibler, thank you for watching!
bet I beat you to it, what are you converting?
not even a mention of the Sun Lite campers of the 1990's, they made pop up, truck slide ins and pull campers, (Discovery) line we early hybrid with pop tops, and very well made .
Hello Paul Higdon-Smith, thanks for the feedback! Can't get them all. Maybe next time.
@@mindseyedesign thanks for the come back :-)
26.05 - early models of the Hannomag 'Orion' were actually amphibious - a facility which was later dropped due to problems with the watertight door seals.
Hello clyneheretic, thanks for the feedback!
Can I suggest you do a video on Bluebird Bus company. They made RVs out of busses from 1963 to 2008. Very high quality and very unique
These vehicles need to be brought back into production.
What an excellent program! Thank you for sharing all of these amazing and wonderful campers/mobile homes. Mostly, I really enjoyed your occasional snide remarks. 😜
Hello AJ Darneal, thank you for watching! Glad you liked them.
This brought good memories back in my childhood I love to see more of it but it’s getting late so thank you for sharing this on here you just made my night I’m watching from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
Hello Kevin H.W. Crabbe, thank you for watching!
you should check out my 1981 Thomas Safetyliner
Hello Peter B., thank you for watching!
Aghhh the good ol days!!!! Back when one adult had to work and was more than enough for toys, food , etc…..
Is this a loop? Seems like the same camper (flyte time) has been featured twice.
Hello Matt Greven, thanks for the feedback!
I want the Bug and companion fifth wheel camper.
Hello chris s, thank you for watching!
Absolutely excellent thank you. Very interesting
Hello Happy Hermit, thank you for watching!
How about a 1983 Toyota dolphin 4 cylinder manual shift r22 motor.what would it cost to remodel?
Soo interesting and informative, thanks ! Hidden knowledge by mainstream companys and politics, knowledge in a deeper sence good for the future. Great
46:03-so the Glasfront was over 19’ tall? Must have been a handful in crosswinds …
Hello HeyMikey H, thank you for watching! I think that was a mistake. Probably should say 9 feet not nineteen.
@@mindseyedesign I suspected as much ;-)
Interesting video, btw-I've subscribed…
In one of the Dean Martin MATT HELM MOVIES he drove a 1970's station wagon, when they stopped he pushed a button the back opened up and a tent with a floor unfolded and inflated, I never did figure out how they got that turret top refrigerator to unfold, they are made of steel. ( I know it was movieland magic, they wheeled the refrigerator in the tent when they were not filming).
Hello Steven Grotte, thank you for watching!
I too thought of his first Matt Helm movie with the tricked out station wagon. It had alot of Bond esque gadgets.
Sorry dude you've got two cars confused the one that had the apartment tenant with a Lincoln Continental suicide door that the 10th apartment come out of the trunk the wagon you're talkin about was self-contained it was it was pretty fancy it had its own bad and stereo and bar and everything
check out the 1984 Airstream motor home
Hello Amy jo Jinkerson, thank you for watching!
I have an old Scamp that needs a lot of love, but I may want to sell it. It is a great candidate for restoration, but would it be worth the time and expense?
Fantastic video my friend!
Hello Robert Ray, thank you for watching!
Hello Ken Hale, thank you for watching!
I'd like to own a teardrop woody.
Hello Rev'dUpArtist, thank you for watching!
Had a big smile on my face listening to this video! So nice to hear actual people talking!👍👍 (or am I missing something here?)
Hello James Ramer, thank you for watching! Nope. Actual people.
@@mindseyedesign I have actually seen the Shamrockaway a long time ago! It was quite by accident! It is now rotting away in a junkyard!
Hello henry bourdon, thank you for watching!
That must've been a big ass bag of hge lettuce!!!
LED frog lights where bumperette were maybe? to fit the space with no cutting maybe? K.I.S.S. principle...
Hello joe stein, thank you for watching!
You can see many elements in these campers that are found in the current trend of off road and all terrain campers. Bat wing'ish awning just after the intro for example. The emphasis on low weight and limited footprint. Ruggedized suspensions and canvas pop-ups. Good video, thanks.
Hello Bruce Evans, thank you for watching!
The second one looks like a lot of the homemade tent cars you see parked behind grocery stores
Hello The Third Wheel, thank you for watching!
I'll take any of them considering me and my 5 kids are homeless
Hello philip covino, thank you for watching!
I kind of flipped out cover the highway Palace.
Hi Servragh Giorsal, I 100% agree. Thanks for watching!
such a great video!! you have to take time to watch it!! you will love watching this!!!
way to go girl it looks awesome!!!
It is the time to make presentation about modern RVS.
Hello Jetsetter, thank you for watching!
Hello oberon85937, thank you for watching!
I was doing a humvee camper but there's just not enough space. I'd really like to do something like this
What is the fire look on steroids called. Who makes it ? I love it
Hello Bambi Harzott, thank you for watching!
Looks like campers featured in Christmas Vacation and Spaceballs.
Hello Frederick, thank you for watching!
Witch one Would I like? At least sixty or more. I would like to see more innovation in today's market.
Hello kenneth gardner, thank you for watching!
the restoration jobs on these campers is A1 they are stunning, who would not be proud to own one of these!!!
Hello Tristam Sculthorpe, thanks for the feedback!
Wow love the Gypsy one so cool love the way it's made a work of art the inside is AMAZING!!...love most of these ..
Hello Lori Lange, thank you for watching!

Miss spelled work of art sorry not wirdnod..Oye Ve!
I could dig the Revcon! Except I don’t have $47,000. Oh well, nice thought!!
Hello C, thank you for watching!
"Going Mobile" The Who
17:47 - Been there, done that.
Hello James Lanclos, thank you for watching!
Hi Bryan Shoemaker, I 100% agree. Thanks for watching!

Hello Steven Grotte, thank you for watching!
