      In a record harpsichord will always sounds better, but there is nothing like the sound of an acoustic pipe organ. It is true that in a harpsichord the nature of counterpoint could be listen much clear

    Two things amazing :
    1. Bach composed this for organ and still it sounds like a tailor-made masterpiece for harpsichord.
    2. Luc Beausejur finds every harpsichord-like aspects from this music and does justice to them.

      If memory serves, organists often practiced pieces on something like this, because pumping was done manually in the early days of the organ and it got to be expensive. I would expect this is why it sounds so good on this instrument.

      Especially the fuge - the fuge is great on the harpsichord and Luc’s ornementation just before the Fantasia is exquisite. I feel that the instrumentation for the prelude is lacking from the harpsichord as those big base pedal notes don’t come through as well. Really fun this one!

      I liked the whole performance too. the only unjustice that may be noticed is the ending; the notes cannot be held for too long and improvisation is needed. Organ still beats the harpischord at that area.

    4 years since my last comment and I love this version of the Bach. I would imagine that back in the day, J.S.Bach could well have played his music on harpsichord as it would have been somewhat difficult to always a) have a pipe organ that was accessible and 2) getting someone to pump the bellows. This is a beautiful performance of the work which I can listen to again and again.

    This is honestly an incredible, refreshing take on the toccata and fugue, and since it's on a harpsichord with pedals (I didn't even know there is such a thing)it's much clearer than an organ and therefore this take is also revealing. I really don't know why this doesn't have more views.

      Both harpsichords and pianos are capable of producing powerful sounds, to be sure. However, a bass note on a harpsichord acoustically creates a much purer sound than a bass note on a piano. This is caused by the fact that a piano hammer strikes two or three strings at once, creating complex overtones. These overtones can add to the aesthetic of the instrument, but usually muddy the very low bass notes somewhat.

However, to hear it on a harpsichord such as this really allows one to appreciate the mastery and intricacy of this piece in a way that has never been known to me. I have always attributed so much of the grandeur of this piece to the organ, itself, but to hear it stripped of those thousands of pipes shows that it is the piece that is the true gem.

    An absolutely stunning performance on a beautiful instrument! I don't know how some so called "scholars" believe that Bach himself did not write this piece It's great depth and beauty and the virtuoso skills needed to play it well all point to Bach as the true composer. Bravo for this rendition on pedal-harpsichord. It is second to none!

    • @Froge4291
      @Froge4291 2 года назад

      Im sure they argue that because in this piece Bach ended the coda in a minor chord which is "unusual" for his works because he "always" ends his minor works in a major chord (picardy third).

    Amazing performance ! Bach uses harpsichords to compose his music at home (as shown in the Bach House in Eisenach-Germany). This piece on harpsichord (instead of Organ) has revealed a lot of unknown details to me ...

    The part that starts at 2:31 is one of the most brilliant parts of ANY composition in the history of music. I love this piece on the organ but it's best on the harpsichord. It's majestic on the organ but downright sinister on the harpsichord!

      You could just said the fugue... They start by a theme and the beginning part of the fugue will be reuse of the theme in other keys with the other voice playing something different creating a harmonic polyphony (here it isn't counterpoint), Bach was surely the greatest fugue composer.

    • @gammafoxlore2981
      @gammafoxlore2981 5 лет назад

      @@v_anh_b6474 Fugue is a combination of harmonic polyphony and counterpoint. Study closely and you will find counterpoint and harmonic polyphony.
      (the episode before the first pedal entry is a contrapuntal nightmare for performers.)

Mille mercis !
