Tuning= 417 Hz . I confirmed using my digital Yamanha Organ. That’s why (beyond being played by Richter) this is the best interpretation so far. Most organists currently use 442 which is disturbing ! Thank you for posting this DIAMOND of interpretation!
Most old organs like this have seen restorations of some kind or another at several points in their life. Sometimes "restoration" can mean practically rebuilding the thing.
@@abalada That's acutally very good thing! I personally am not an organist, but to be honest, I'm very impressed by this organ in Ottobeuren. First of all by not usually frequency(here is maintone a'=415 Hz, or maybe a bit higher). Also, I'm glad to here how pipe organ from 1766 had been peserved cca 85%. From the Fantasia movie by Disney, shortly before the orchestra plays the Toccata: "Now, there are three kinds of music on this Fantasia program. First, there's the kind that tells a definite story. Then there's the kind, that while it has no specific plot, does paint a series of more or less definite pictures. Then there's a third kind, music that exists simply for its own sake." This is the third kind! If there's a god, then he might have had this music in his mind when he created the universe!

On more modern organs they don't have to. The organs have thumb pistons and toe studs that, when pressed, can change the presets, moving the pull stops in and out.

Difficult. But as this organ is from 1766 (thus 30-50 years after Bach wrote this peace) and still tuned at 415 Hz (later organs are tuned at 442 Hz) the sound is surely closer to the orginal than a performance on a modern organ.
I've heard this about 100 times before. Now I've heard it played perfectly. What a wonderful interpretation!
The greatest final chords of music ever.
This musical performance is like a 10 on the Richter scale

From 8:08 on, the end is inevitable. Every note is set from that point on, it cannot go anywhere else. And that makes the finale epic!
