    I live in Houston. AA GenPro installed a Cummins RS20A Quiet Connect Standby Generator at my home in October 2021 after the ERCOT grid nearly collapsed during a severe winter storm in February 2021. The generator has performed flawlessly in each of the power outages my neighborhood has experienced since the generator was installed. I especially appreciate having power when an outage occurs at night. The generator provides power for HVAC, refrigeration, induction cooktop, lights, TV and Internet. So far I have had good service from AA GenPro. The generator provides peace of mind when a bad storm is forecast.

      @@juanmuniz5927 My generator was installed almost 3 years ago. I paid $14K for the generator and installation, including the transfer switch. Centerpoint installed the larger gas meter that the generator requires at no cost to me. I also have a service contract with GenPro that covers two service inspections a year, including an annual oil change. The service contract is about $280 a year.

    Be warned Cummins dealerships are very weak. I installed a 20kw model in a new build home 3 years ago. It worked a few times and then stopped working giving me the "Overcrank Failure" error. The dealer then proceeded to charge me $900 for service calls to try and get it to work and they failed. After repeated complaints they finally admitted that something was wrong with the unit and filed a warranty complaint with Cummins (so they told me). One service tech was diligent in trying to figure out what was wrong. After three years and dozens of power failures the unit had 22 hours of operation. I didn't know what to do so I just had faith that this one service tech would eventually help me. Over 3 years after installation, with the unit failing to work, the service tech installed a new fuel solenoid. He said the old solenoid would burn out during start up due to the engine turnover dropping the battery voltage to below 8V during start up cranking. It took them 3 years to fix this! It seems to work now but I don't have any faith that this is a long term fix as several fixes in the past 3 years have failed to produce reliable operation. Look to other brands if you want reliability. Make sure your dealer has a track record of reliability and strong support.

    Thanks for showing a video of the Cummins RS20A. It helped to make my decision, as I’ve researched several home standby generator brands (both liquid cooled and air cooled). I’ve had three separate generator companies to come out for a bid, and based on the cost, my research of the different brands of generators, and the generator companies’ BBB ratings, I decided to purchase and have installed the Cummins RS20A, from AA GenPro. Your video was a tremendous help.

    i see some issues with the install 1st would be why secondary regulator for natural gas unless you main regulator is set higher than 12 on water column. most services are 7 on water column or 1/4 p.s.i. also exhaust and cooling fan is blowing directly onto the secondary gas regulator i bet in the summer time its reaching 170 degrees F plus i would check it out with a thermal imager to make sure your safe. also exhaust and heat from cooling fan is blowing back into your fencing also would check temps to make sure your safe. running for a hour or so would not be big deal but if you really needed to run it for a long time i would be very worried. also check the conduit going to the electric meter for high temps after running for an hour or more. ive seen temps at 170 plus on hot days i always recommend repositioning the generator cummins kinda dropped the ball on the gen set spec as far as positioning

      Many new gas installs in new developments use 2 lb gas to feed the house. Developers like using 2 lb gas, because then they can run much smaller gas lines in the home and keep their costs down. The gas installers then put regulators for each gas burning appliance. I am assuming here, that is the case.

      Depending on where you live, gas pressures are very different, some are 8 inches water column, some are low pressure that is even lower than this, I would defiantly ask you local provider of what is your pressure, it will make a huge difference in performance, think of a old Chevy 454 motor with a one barrel carburetor.

    Purchased this unit in July, has been pushed into service twice, 3 hours and 4 hours, fired up and kicked in both times within 2 seconds. Today? 1 hour west of Nashville it was -3 F and 40 mph winds and at 3 AM , power goes down, Cummins tries but overcranked. Plenty of battery power, it cranks won't catch. And their extreme weather kit is only for oil. Cannot get it to catch. NO error messages otherwise. It is Propane but local neighbors Generacs fired right up. I paid extra for a 1 inch line for propane, 82% in 500 gallon tank, its not the fuel. Almost tempted to buy a 3'x5' electric power blanket you use for Trucks/Car engines and try that. Block heaters on this model, don't see an option. Anyone else have extreme cold weather issues? Thank you all

    • @richardpetit7597
      @richardpetit7597 Год назад +1

      We are in Canada and our Cummins tech told us that the most likely cause of the unit not starting in cold weather is a frozen regulator especially after a sudden drop of temp after damp weather as humidity can form inside the regulator and freeze. He said to pour a glass of lukewarm water on each regulator making sure not to get water on the vent hole, and manualy start the unit and repeat max 2 times if unit does not start. Hope this helps!

    • @motman6668
      @motman6668  3 года назад +1

      I've had both but each installation was different which is why the costs were significantly different. On my Generac installation the electrical run (wires) was over 100ft! I also had to have another gas meter installed based on the location of the generator. Since IMHO the Generac is louder we wanted the unit placed in the back of the yard and not near the house. The Cummins is much quieter IMHO so we were able to install it right next to the outside of the garage where the gas meter and electrical panel are. In general the 2 units alone (Cummins 20kw and Generac 22kw) should cost around 8,800-10,000k depending on how you source them.

    These units are a pain in the butt to work on. You have to remove small access panels to get to the plugs (front and rear) very limited access to the oil filter. Make sure the 4 plastic plugs get installed in the holes in the black base, if not we are finding mouse nests in the air filter housing. If you start your generator and they have chewed through the air filter, all that debris will be sucked into the engine. When we work on these units we always pull the air filter housing first to check for mouse damage before starting the engine.
