- I (Yvonne) jumped in my car. And drove over to the horses to film this. WOW I've never seen it so beautiful in the meadow. Rein also comes to have a look. The horses are playful and gallop. Rein also films a bit, so that you can see what it looks like when I film. The most beautiful sunset ever!

Rose and lavender paints their dark chocolate coats while the sun melts like a giant drop of honey. The whole herd frolics and suddenly one is so happy, it kicks its hind legs into the sky. Yvonne calling their beautiful names and showering them with attention and affection. Rein clapping them a private concert. Is there a sacred name for this much peaceful beauty at once?

Incredibly beautiful. I so wish I could ride my bicycle over every evening to watch the Friesians in the sunset. Even before they started galloping, you could feel their energy crackle. Gea was easy to pick out even from a distance. She thrives with the excitement. She makes herself look so big and powerful, her neck muscular, kicking up her heels. I think Yvonne said that Gea was her son's favorite. She's a fire cracker. Good girl Klaske for getting closer to Yvonne. And sweet Hester doesn't want Yvonne to go: "just stay a little longer". I am always amazed watching them as a natural herd, raised together, and having plenty of time to mature. I don't know if that is very common in the U.S., but I never experienced it here.

After shoveling snow this morning from storm in Denver Colorado, was nice to sit down with a cup of coffee and see this most beautiful purple summer sunset and 17 minutes of majestic Friesian horses. I must say Ginny, Hester, Gea and Geertje are a fine looking group of 2 year olds.

I am retired American in Denver. I do not speak Dutch or Friesian. The name Pake Jeffje was a nickname given on Friesian Horses channel that stuck, so I adopted it as my user name. I do not own horses, but did grow up with them as my Uncle bred Appaloosa horses here in Colorado.

They look so happy when they run & kick! That was a beautiful sunset. You can tell it was summer then since the sun wasn’t even down at 9:30pm. We visited Norway for 2 weeks in summer & it was very different for us to experience a sun that never truly set!

Strange to think that in 1913 there were only 3 stallions of the Friesian breed left in the world. I must say that you are doing a good job of maintaining the breed. It's a huge herd running around the meadow now. I think Minze will be highly valued. Want to show him a little more now that he's confident.👍
@Mary Steen A studbook society was founded in 1879 by Frisian farmers and landowners who had gathered to found the Fries Rundvee Stamboek (FRS) The Paardenstamboek ("horse stud book") was published in 1880 and initially registered both Friesian horses and a group of heavy warmblood breeds, including Ostfriesen and Alt-Oldenburgers, collectively known as "Bovenlanders". At the time, the Friesian horse was declining in numbers, and was being replaced by the more fashionable Bovenlanders, both directly, and by crossbreeding Bovenlander stallions on Friesian mares. This had already virtually exterminated the pure Friesian in significant parts of the province in 1879, which made the inclusion of Bovenlanders necessary. While the work of the society led to a revival of the breed in the late 19th century, it also resulted in the sale and disappearance of many of the best stallions from the breeding area, and Friesian horse populations dwindled. By the early 20th century, the number of available breeding stallions was down to three. Therefore, in 1906, the two parts of the registry were joined, and the studbook was renamed the Friesch Paarden Stamboek (FPS) in 1907."
In 1913 a society, Het Friesch Paard, was founded to protect and promote the breed. By 1915 it had convinced FPS to split registration into two groups. By 1943, the breeders of non-Friesian horses left the FPS completely to form a separate association, which later became the Koninklijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland (Royal Warmblood Studbook of the Netherlands (KWPN).
Displacement by petroleum-powered farm equipment on dairy farms also was a threat to the survival of Friesian horse. The last draught function performed by Friesians on a significant scale was on farms that raised dairy cattle. World War II slowed the process of displacement, allowing the population and popularity of the breed to rebound. Important in the initial stage of the recovery of the breed was due to the family owned Circus Strassburger, who, having fled Nazi Germany for the Low Countries, discovered the show qualities of the breed and demonstrated its abilities outside of its local breeding area during and after the Nazi occupation. I remember when all of these beautiful horses were babies, with their mothers out in the fields. Look at them now, they are young mares, no longer children. The are the horses that are coming to be the mares of the future, the mothers of the future. They are all so beautiful,
