    One more point for teching up more agressively in live games (tip 5) is, ironically, previous tip: as players are less likely to deploy indirects (and even less likely to actually keep them alive), there are going to be much less threats to your hi-tech units, compared to standard game. That is probably why building mega in base trade to delay opponent seems to happen much more often in live.

    Having watched your AW content for some time now, I feel that you have a particular strength when it comes to live games - and that's nothing to downplay. People thrive in their own niches and that's what makes it entertaining to see those styles clash. You're not a weak player by any metric but I know that when I'm watching one of your live games it's going to be a particularly tough time for the opponent, and that's great.
    Roundabout way of saying the video is good and you should make more in this vein. It'd be nice to see the live scene develop some strong players, and you're capable of helping to make that happen.

    There are new options in live games to limit options on maps or what opponents you play. You can avoid really strong players or those who are noobs. I am an average player and I once got matched with a noob who doesnt even know how to cap bases first. That wasnt a very fun match. I also wouldnt recommend using Sensei in live matches as you might run out of time in regards to having so many units. I can say Mangs tips are really good as I am an occasional live player. I also played against Mangs in live before once and those tips are indeed valuable.

    for the tips 2, I would also add the follow :
    - CO with move boost are better in live as opponent may have to spend more time to consider your unit move range (with power)
    - CO that rely on artillery (like grit and kanbei) and/or unit count (sensei and hachi) get worse (well, they are T0 but worth to mention)
    - also CO that are heavy dependant on infantry like sami will become worse.

    I think the CO that most benefits from Live play is actually Andy. I got the idea that he may be more powerful in live from the AW1 campaign when Sonia mentions how his style is going in and then correcting his mistakes on the go. While this wasn't true when he only had his COP, Andy's SCOP is essentially a "fix my blunder" button in live, and the added mobility makes it an excellent comeback tool or game closing ability.
    Andy is particularly excellent at exploiting time advantages because your opponent won't have the time to properly plan the way the damage will be dealt across your units, meaning it is more likely they will leave critical units alive, and thus ready to come back on the next SCOP. You can also afford to play faster knowing that so long as your unit survives, you only need to pull it back and hold on for a SCOP.
    We may need additional testing, but I genuinely believe he should be at least one tier higher than he currently is for live play specifically. The more I play Andy on live, the more convinced I am of this.

  • @turbo8628
    @turbo8628 Год назад +2

    Tip number 11; learn the map!
    It's like chess opening theory. The first moves should largely be from memory.
    If you know what your initial build order will be and have a plan for where those units will be going and what their job is then that should save you a bunch of time and give you the best foundation for the match.
    I didn't plan my turns (unless i was testing a map) and it put me on the backfoot several times. Advance wars is a game where things can snowball quickly, and nothing is as bad as a poor opening.
    Figure out what is contested and what is you and your opponents areas of influence are. This will help to prevent overextension and save some thinking time during the match.

    8:28 actually your unit count is not affected by buying more expensive units. It just means you get relatively more infantry units compared to the money you spend, as long as you're building infantry in factories that aren't building the expensive units. That's why "teching up" maximizes the combination of your unit value AND unit count.

    I'm new to AW but as a 5+0 live chess player I wanna add to tip #8. It's extremely helpful to imagine what the good/best moves are for your opponent so you can plan accordingly on the next turn.
    I'm assuming the same applies in AW too, especially when units are within attacking range of each other. Since there's so much more to keep track of in AW than chess, you don't necessarily have to do this for each of your opponent's units but the important details of the current position.
    Here's some things you can ask yourself and anticipate during your opponent's time.
    1) What is a decent/threatening unit formation my opponent can execute on the next turn and how can this cause me problems down the line? If so, how can I counter it or respond?
    2) By observing previous actions/turns, what points of interests are my opponents aiming for? (Properties, terrain, your weak units, etc)
    3) What type of units are my opponent likely to build provided their current income/funds?

    One more tip might be learning to play with imperfect moves by you and the other player. More mistakes will happen and learning to deal with your own and the other player is important. Dont let an on the clock mistake get under your skin.

    Why does Eagle not get increment for his extra turn? In AW2 there obviously is no timer, but Eagle essentially gets "reasource" in the form of being able to move al his vehicles again. If we add a new resource (time) shouldn't he get that for his extra turn too?

    I have no interest in this; I play advance wars exactly because I don't want a real-time strategy game. But having watched the tournaments, there is no doubt in my mind that it is a whole other ballpark compared to taking your time. I mean, we have seen absolute monsters just getting gutted, simply because everything get's harder on the clock.

      @Mangs1337  Год назад +5

      Games without com towers get so stally though.

    • @alex_zetsu
      @alex_zetsu Год назад

      @@Mangs1337 It is true Comm Towers make the game quicker by making units more fragile. This devlaues COs like Andy. The thing is, the CO powers are descent enough at breaking deadlocks. Even without Comm towers, it would be hard pressed to find a game where someone pops Hyperupgrade 5 times. He'd either with one of those pushes, or if he misuses his power turn the other side can build lots of power bar by munching on those units. Given regular tanks have high mobility, a single Neotank bustring a hole in a line can allow a flood of tanks to get a bunch of favorable first strikes. You might have seen something similar before when your Neotank attacked something when you power was on and you had a bit of overkill damage. The line would have been broken even without the comm tower.
      And I'm talking about one of the shorter CO meter, you probably won't see Egle doing Lightning Strike Thrice since he usually would win in one of them or be so behind it can't make a comeback and likewise you'd probably won't see Kanbei using Samurai Spirit four times.
      Mechs also have a bit more value in some of the slower paced matches. They are essentially really slow tanks with the ability to cap and cross rives. And in multiplayers, rivers hardly matter anyways.
