This is the last Ridge Racer for the PSX and is sometimes considered the best one in the series, specially for its aesthetical merits.
This will be a simple walkthrough of the story mode. This time I didn't find an excuse to record the mirror mode and show you the rest of the game's music, but instead I recorded a second video with the missing stories. First Team Mappy, Pac Racing club at 12:14 and Dig Racing Team at 25:52.

the way namco create the final race and ended the final lap with happy new year on the screen is always my favorite part in R4
Namco stepped their game up big time on Type 4, these graphics are impressive even today.
True, most notably the lighting, which makes a huge difference.
I still prefer the graphics of the 6 years older 1993 arcade-version of Ridge Racer 1, tho.
It still age well by today standard

Other than the music, the transitions in the menu screen is the best thing about this game...it tells you how much soul the production team put into the game.
you know you're a badass when you can stop mid race, pick-up a chick, and still have time to win!!
All I'm hoping is that the racer got a date from Reiko after winning the championship (or at least her number). I am not sorry for thinking that.
If I had this game in my life as a kid, I'm positive I'd be a different person. I even had a PS1 but didn't know about this game. The music, the racing, the physics... I'm tempted to play it for the first time right now!
I used to really love this game, in fact I still have it sat on my shelf. Watching this makes me wanna load it up again and play it for old times sake. My favourite race was always the one where you race through the airport at night, it was always really atmospheric I thought.
One of the best soundtracks ever on the PS1. This, Warhawk, Chrono Chross and FF7.

They were really trying to push the Playstation with this one. If i remember right they were aiming for 60 FPS gameplay but couldn't do it without sacrificing the graphics too much.
Heh, I remember when I was a kid and playing this for the first time and being so amazed at the visuals, especially the trails made by the break lights.
And then years later, I played it again and blitzed the game in about an hour. Still utterly impressed with the game and the music. My god, the music.
They need to remaster this and re release it

Gosh, I remember playing this game back in primary. It's the only car racing game I've ever liked up to this day. I wish they would remaster this for the PS4...

Here's the last era for classic Ridge Racer era (1993-1998), in the beginning of Gouraud-style graphic before 6th gen era & 2000s PC game era. The soundtrack are finest and definite solid.
Atleast NAMCO IPs appears on this game very unique such as Tekken, Ace Combat, Klonoa, Pole Position, Galaxian/Galaga, Pac-Man, Mappy, Dig Dug, SoulCalibur and more.

This brings back so many memories. A long time ago I chose r.t.s with assoluto and a obtained the bisonte for the 2nd stage and when I advanced to the 3rd I ended up obtaining the regalo it only happened once I could never do it again

Perhaps you can try Pac Racing Team and Terrazi as my suggestion.
PocketStation programmer? I googled that, it seems like the VMU from the DreamCast, but was only released in Japan... Interesting.
R4 is an excellent racing game. And i ever won the game thousand times with all except DRT.
Back in the day, we dream to drive 3D cars like that or if could ever be possible.

I loved the intro. But the gameplay, physics, etc wasnt my thing. I was a TOCA and Colin Mcrea guy.
Awesome graphics , soundtrack and game overall. But my fav in this game is the storyline of every team, especially rts.
See, I'd really like to play this right now, because it genuinely looks like massive fun. You don't get this kind of happiness from Forza or modern Gran Tourismo titles.
I do not know if it is because we are getting old, but games today are not that fun like PS1 days.

OMG I LOVE THIS GAME i used to play it as a kid, when i first bought my PS1 with my own money, i used to stop at the same track imagining i was picking up the girl then go for the finish line hahahah xD

one of the best racing games ever! =D its a shame that such a series goes so bad today. namco should do much more work on the enviroment and style because this is the true potential of ridge racer.since Ridge racer 5 with the nitro boost they totaly forget the music ,the beauty and even the story. =( ridge racer type 4 was the best one because they put some story in which is really good . even the cars looks much more realistic than in ridge racer games today . i want the old style back , namco!

....I played this wonderful RRT 4 game 13 years ago, sadly I didn't bring it with me when I left the UK 13 yrs ago, it's still in a storage facility, I haven't been back for 13 years now, wonder what condition it’s in. I remember it was in its plastic case, so should be alright, watching this clip on YT brings great memories of hours of play all those years ago. Part 2 below…

This is and always will be my favorite game in the world since i was a kid and even now is still my favorite the greatest racing game of all i miss it so much i think this is the game i want for christmas definitely i gotta get that game and really keep it this time
