Its impressive that the devs managed to inject so much charm into one racing track. I love the grid girls, the chopper that comes in and hovers over the player, the little huts by the sea and the day/night cycle.
Yeah definitely. The presentation in these games were on point. Made them lively and exciting. I guess that's because they were ports of actual arcade games - loud and brash - begging for kids in the 90s to plunk their quarters down.
20 years back .. It just fills you with pride with it says "Incredible! nobody can catch you! your the real ridge racer" ,, Then Mom is calling to have dinner :)
This takes me back. I got my PSX for Christmas '96 along with Twisted Metal 2. Shortly thereafter while still on Christmas break I bought Tekken and Ridge Racer Revolution. Namco made some of the best PlayStation games.
Pop the game into a CD player and you could listen to the tunes. The style of music was happy hardcore and Gabba music, also some hardcore breaks style tunes as well I absolutely love the soundtracks
My first game on the Playstation. I loved this game. Mastering the drift mechanic in this game is crucial and also incredibly rewarding once you get it down pat. Once you can drift effectively, you can really obtain some quick times.
Fun Fact: Ridge Racer Revolution was one of the handful of Playstation games that supported the link cable! That means two TVs, two PS1s, two copies of the game (one copy if you're slick) for 2 player fun! Way better than splitscreen!
@@jasonlee7816 when I say ps1, I mean the original spch1001 ntsc-u Playstation from Sept 9, 1995. I never liked subsequent versions of the original Playstation. All they did was remove hardware and made it unappealing to gamers.
It’s amazing how good these games looked for their time.. I still remember getting a PS1 on launch for my birthday. I was around 12 and it blew my mind how good the first Ridge Racer looked.
Ridge Racer has been one of my all-time favorite racing games for a home game system. The choice of cars and challenge of the race courses along with the ability to upgrade the car combined together to make a great racing game.
Que maravilloso es ver como an cambiado tanto los juegos de carreras de aquella epoca a con la actual aun asi nunca dejare de ser de la vieja escuela estos juegos traen nostalgia:'D
A useful tip from the past: wait to load the level that you wanted; remove the cd game; insert a music cd; enjoy it this level with a personalized music track... To play another level, repeat the process.
I've done that with the PS1 Ridge Racer games, and while it's a fun thing to do, the problem is that the CD reader on the PlayStation doesn't properly play the music CDs' tracks.
Esto es lo que me apasiona , un juego arcade de recreativa en tu salón, con un MÚSICON que flipas, sin necesidad de internet, ni actualizaciones, y divertido como el solo, siempre seré de la vieja escuela 👍😉
This and the OG Ridge Racer always had a special vibe to me. The upbeat music and anouncer, the colorful graphics and the beachside location are like a match made in heaven. Amazing games ❤
This makes me feel old. The first ever PS1 game I owned in the 90's. Though it wasn't the first I played. That goes to Rayman 1 on my cousin's PS1. Good times.
I played this game so much back in the day. The only thing I couldn't do was the last stage in time trials. I remember trying that for a whole week and had to give up. Your run needs to be flawless, cut all the right corners at the right speed and have extreme luck. All the other stages I had no troubles completing.
Drifting in this game is kinda hard to pull it off in this game. For me, honestly, I would stick in with the second car that has a higher grip so corners would be kinda easy.
@Reiji Imaizumi: I for one never really cared for the drift cars in the Ridge Racer series, let alone drifting in Ridge Racer games in general. When it was my decision, I ALWAYS played with cars that had a significant amount of grip to them. The grip cars were a lot easier for me to control, especially around tight corners in which I can easily break around them without taking my finger off the accelerator.
with the steering wheel noboby could touch me with any ridge racer I literally used the steering wheel to death it just died on me one day after playing all of the ridge racer ps1 games in one sitting flawlessly....been looking for another one every since that was 10 years ago. legendary.
@PacGuy765 I'm not sure whether I understand what you say, but there are 12 different endings in this game. 6 for the normal mode and another 6 for the extra mode. Depending on the order you beat the races, you get one ending or another.
I always used the "get rid of the rear view mirror" trick in this game (and Rage Racer). Mirror's too damn big and kinda unnecessary. Mirror trick - Pause game, hold triangle then tap L1. When you un-pause the game again the mirror slides away.
This game was so exhilarating, even watching is getting the adrenaline pumping! The best thing about this game though is the soundtrack, just pop the disc straight into your car's cd player! I've nearly crashed my RX-8 soooo many times whilst listening to these tunes!
to the player Deskawa: What gave you the Idea 2 use 13th Racing against the White Angel at 49:41? and why didn't u use it against the 13th Racing Kid, that would've been an easy win!
@PacGuy765 I think it was the music title what game me the idea. Even if my driving is really clumsy (and that's probably why I didn't use it against the devil kid), the big reason is that I wanted to show you how different how diffent special cars are from normal ones. I practiced just a little with it (it will always be better than normal cars no matter how bad you drive), but I regret not having tried it with manual transmission, which is most probably how it should be played.
39:19 I saw this Novice Ending from another person, but it had 13th Racing zooming through the tunnel, maybe it was RT RYUKYU because, I think thats what you get for beating all the GP's(12 cars) on EXTRA
Adrian Combes i always used the green and red eclipse looking car until i gained the black car, then gain the white car, then fly though all the tracks like a boss, in this game it's more about the grip than it was about speed
Namco dominated in that era. with experimental wierd controllers, m2 arcade board. 80% of those games was the music. Thing that still hold strong today.
I remember having to wait about a year after this was released in Japan for it to come out in The States. It was excruciating. I miss a lot about the good old days, but waiting for Japanese games ain't one of them.
The celebration of Ridge Racer series is gonna very magnificent at 30th anniversary. So this is it. Galaga '88 was played by Ridge Racer 64 and Ridge Racer Revolution. But wait. There's more. Ridge Racer 2 and Pocket Racer were on the arcade. This would be righteous like this in the 90's
Alright someone help me out. As a kid I beat all of these mirror courses. I just picked up the game again and on the Novice mirror course I’m finishing each lap around 50 seconds or less, yet the best place I can finish is about 5th. What am I overlooking? The player in this video was able to finish in 1st with around a 10 seconds per lap slower pace.
Just finished Extra Novice with a 2:23 total time and still only managed to finish 2nd! The guy in this video took first in the same race with a 3:06 time!
One of the first games released on the PSOne and i played the hell out of this game back then. Thanks so much for the Longplay I only wished you would have played without the music.
I remember play that game and a unlocked all the stages and unlocked almost all the cars except one. I had it all saved until my cousin erased it by accident. 😩
the music in this game was on point, early 90s rave trax
***** You can't listen to your own music CD's with Ridge Racer Revolution?
Jim Johnston NIKKOSE
What I call music
Namco has never failed to provide the beats. Just look at Ace Combat 2 - 5.
Techno house Id say!
Its impressive that the devs managed to inject so much charm into one racing track. I love the grid girls, the chopper that comes in and hovers over the player, the little huts by the sea and the day/night cycle.

The powerful music and the joyful announcer made me happy. Arcade action on your TV, what a great time that was.
This takes me back. I got my PSX for Christmas '96 along with Twisted Metal 2. Shortly thereafter while still on Christmas break I bought Tekken and Ridge Racer Revolution. Namco made some of the best PlayStation games.

the PS One doesn’t support the link cable as Sony left out the port (socket)
Ridge Racer Revolution PS1 also supported the Namco NeGcon controller

When RR was the thing. I remember being completly blown away with how close was this to the arcades of its time!
Beautiful nostalgia moment from 18:50 onwards... Brings back good memories :D Thanks for sharing this.
This game looked like fucking Forza when I was a kid

I loved the buggy trembling of the tires in the camera flight scenes

The graphics were so good for their time. 1995-1999 ruled in gaming.
This was a game that was a very big part of my childhood. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

I done that all the time on the first Ridge Racer. It feels much more intense racing around when playing Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out For a Hero.
this games was the 90s
Still love the soundtrack. Remember pulling the PSX game disc in a CD player.
Loved ridge racer rev and rage racer plz remake these.
if you stop at 8:42,you can see Heihachi's face at a Tekken 2 poster
That's a tekken references
Yeah . . . I call it Tekken's Turn. I hate that turn!
I love it :)
And tekken is another game that involves stress

As a kid I always thought that first race song said "fuck it, I got a bowl on my head!"
It has been 20 years since I played this one for the first time.It reminds me of the school days.
I'm back to my childhood and it feels great!!!
This makes me feel old. The first ever PS1 game I owned in the 90's. Though it wasn't the first I played. That goes to Rayman 1 on my cousin's PS1. Good times.
did you eventually buy (get) a PS1 or continue borrowing your cousin’s PS1 to play Rayman or Ridge Racer Revolution?
did you continue playing Rayman 2, Rayman 3, Rayman Legends, Rayman Origins or lose interest in Ridge Racer games?
Man, I miss this game.
This game is phenomenal. I love the PS1 Ridge Racer games. Namco was on hot fire in those days
My first ever racing game. 1997. I’m about to start crying
RIDGE RACER REVOLUTION despite having an exact same gameplay as Ridge Racer 1 still being one of the most underrated gems.
Never got to play much of this game, so it's nice to finally see it in this format :) Would love to see Rage Racer in one of these videos too.
This is my favorite Ridge Racer announcer by far.
This game is my childhood, wow.
Ah, my favorite game in the RR series.
I still have opening track as my alarm bell on my phone
The music was so unique for both Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution
I played this game so much back in the day. The only thing I couldn't do was the last stage in time trials. I remember trying that for a whole week and had to give up. Your run needs to be flawless, cut all the right corners at the right speed and have extreme luck. All the other stages I had no troubles completing.
One of the best arcade style racers to ever grace home consoles!! They don't make em like this any more!! = (
The music of this game is still epic.
Drifting in this game is kinda hard to pull it off in this game. For me, honestly, I would stick in with the second car that has a higher grip so corners would be kinda easy.
I would do 360 in the corners while leading the race. When you're used to the physics of this game it's pretty easy to pull sick drifts.
I always chose the red, green and white car that one to me had the best drift!
Yeah but when you master the drifting in this game you're a king!
@Reiji Imaizumi: I for one never really cared for the drift cars in the Ridge Racer series, let alone drifting in Ridge Racer games in general. My 1st ps1 game! Loved it! I remember doing 360° drifts during the turns!
When I was either 4 or 5 years old as a kid during my childhood back then, I didn't know anything about ridge racer revolution.
this game and Rage Racer made my adrenaline go up as a kid! That until my cheap steering wheel broke..
This takes me back. Good times

22:46 I love this song
3:22 for first race
How do you get your name on the board? He came in first place in every race and still it just went to the game over screen.
