- I decided that I want to be seen by oncoming traffic, so I installed an inexpensive pair of amber LED auxiliary lights. These 2" lights have aluminum housings and I was able to mount them using the lower fender screws.
Great idea Rob. And the contrast of the warm color of the lights against the darkness of the bike should help. - Frank
Thanks Frank. Unless I get into another accident I suppose I won't know if they really helped. But it is worth a shot .
FRANK !!!!!
Sounds terrific! 1 litre for sure! Those lights will get you noticed.
Thanks! I couldn't help myself. I love the way this bike sounds.
Couldn't agree more on visibility. Good job on the install!
Thanks Jody! Not a real pro job but I think they won't fall off and I hope they help.
@@ParallelCamper yep, duct tape and gorilla glue work wonders 😉
I'm just 😂 kidding... I'm sure they're on there securely!
@@PurpleOnThreeOnly time will tell.
JODY !!!!! 🙂
Beautiful ride. The lites are good looking too. Cheers, JM
Thanks. A little bit of safety added at a bargain price.
Very well done! I've noticed on my GT the extra visibility especially on bright days makes a huge difference for safety. I put mine on tube clamps near the bottom of the fork tubes so that they're sprung. I also used a low voltage cutoff circuit board (manually adjustable, not digital) as an automatic switch that only kicks the lights on if the motor is running and the stator is producing over 13.8 volts. If I used a manual switch I would forget them on and/or off!
I do believe they add to safety. Sounds like your installation was much more sophisticated than mine. Just the manual switch on mine. Thanks for checking out the video!
ROB !!!! THAT IS JUST AWESOME - AND MY GOD BROTHER - THAT IS AN AWESOME LOOKING / SOUNDING BIKE !!!!
Thanks Dane! I do hope to avoid another Oak Glen incident. I really enjoy this bike.
Brother DANE!!! er ... I mean SIR OBI-WAN! Your Greatness!🤣😂
@@verbalwidget7267 LOL - BACK AT YA !!!
Great addition to your amazing ride Rob! I have the exact same lights on my DR and they are very bright and going strong after 3 years of use. Anything to improve your visibility on the road is a major bonus!
Thanks DOC! I am glad to hear that these lights are holding up for you. Looks like I made a reasonable choice. I am trying to avoid the next Prius encounter. After more than a year, that accident still haunts me a little.
"in light of that" lol😅
I was unintentionally funny again.
@@ParallelCamper 😁😁😁
Nice lights. Might help in fog, too.
Thanks! Technically they are fog lamps rather than spots. I will try them out when the need arises.
Nice looking bike! Is it comfortable for long rides?
Thanks! I've not been on any real long rides but I am comfortable enough for a couple of hours. After a short break I am good to go again. And it's so much fun!
I was two shakes of a wombat's tail away from the Colorado today on the V1050 a Cali trip in the near future. @@ParallelCamper
@@verbalwidget7267 Hello Dave! There are plenty of great places to ride for sure and you certainly have the right bike.
@@ParallelCamperI’m thinking Carlsbad and the beach. I use to go there a lot and just relax. I haven’t been there in years, never on a bike. Ten fifty days he’s never seen the ocean. Only salt lake 🤣😂
@@verbalwidget7267 Let me know if you want to meet up. I can't commit more that a couple days in advance but would love to meet you. I'm still taking some nasty chemicals and will likely start some targeted radiation soon so I really don't know how I will feel from day to day.
If the idea of this is to be seen by other drivers wouldn’t mounting them higher on the bike be far more effective?
You may be right but I did make some concessions to ease of mounting. I didn't want to modify any of the plastics. Thanks.
@@ParallelCamper I can understand that. I don’t want to drill into my plastics either but I will be adding lights one way or another eventually.
does the map navigation app work good on the tft?
I never really put any effort into using the the Suzuki connectivity app. I run with a Garmin that is familiar to me.
as a owner of one of these bikes I can say without a doubt,,, 'FUCK NO'. I bought a Garmin because the MySpin app will not connect most times. total garbage.
@@redhytech ahah thanks yea I'm gonna go with africa twin
@@redhytech Hopefully Suzuki makes improvements for future owners.
not seeing it happen anytime soon..lol@@ParallelCamper
well, I was going to be a douche and give a thumbs down,,, but I also have a GSX-S1000 GT Plus. I don't live in the city. and to be honest the GT headlight(s) suck balls on dark country roads. I ended up putting a set of 3/4" round LED spot/ driving lights. I put mine where the reflector is. I did think about putting then where you placed yours. but either way works. thumbs up, my fellow GSX-S1000 GT rider. stay safe.
Thanks! I considered the reflector location too but was able to use the lower position by drilling out the lights mount so that the stock fender bolt had clearance. Zero modification to the bike itself.
I had to add a spacer to the set I added on. oh, and get a longer bolt. I also put a switch on the handlebars so i can easily turn them on or off. the lights I got have both yellow and white lights built in. the switch is a 2 way rocker switch,, works great so i don't blind on coming traffic.@@ParallelCamper
@@redhytech Sounds like a great installation. The inexpensive lights I bought are diffuse amber only. I put a rocker switch on the right side of the bike, just below the seat. Not particularly convenient, but I can access it while riding. I have intentionally focused the lights low enough that they shouldn't be an issue for oncoming traffic and I leave them on full time when riding.
