I’ve been kicked out of multiple autograph groups for insulting an admin - I consider it a badge of honor at this point. Many of them are just a front for commercial sales and if you start criticizing the fanfare justifying quadruple digit prices for private signings, the awful looking shield stickers, or the perverts in the hobby sharing all their sexual signed 8x10’s whenever a female celeb has a birthday - the admins will bounce you for not being “positive” or “respectful” 🤣
The opinion threads even on RACC are mostly a joke. Usually everyone follows the herd starting with the first opinion. I always tell people to start in those threads but take them with a grain of salt. A large segment of the collector base views “self-authenticating” as part of the hobby for those who collect in a different league than everyone else.
You’re absolutely right - it’s dangerous. I get super pissed off when I see new people post up an opinion thread only to see all the TPA bashers come out and lecture about “learning the autograph” rather trust a TPA. The amount of bad advice out there even in the good groups is just stunning. We need more folks like you, Steve, who don’t collect and give advice with their heads up their asses.

@ZarelliSpaceAuthentication It was a Space Centric group, it wasn't really even an Autograph/Sale Group....

If you are talking about the "Out or Safe" group, you are right. That is one of the worst groups out there.

Steve, I think you're missing the entire point of OOS. It's a quick opinion service, its not perfect, they're giving a base opinion that even they say IS NOT REFLECTIVE OF TPA. They literally say that!
Start your own group if you don't like it, and nobody really cares what you think. If you cannot read the rules and get the basic idea of why these things exist, then you are insanely misguided.

Why would they let randos fight every opinion? It would waste everyone's time. Feel free to waste your time, YOU'RE out of control bashing a 99% free service. GTFO.

Eric, of course they will not always be in sync with the TPAs, and no authenticator is perfect. My criticism is not for making occasional mistakes. The issue is that when they are informed that they are marking things "safe" that would not pass major TPAs, at least one mod refuses to hear it and boots you for bringing it up. And despite what the fine print may be, many participants there are operating under the illusion they are getting professional quality opinions from that group and in some cases they are not. And now I have been told they are charging for opinions. So, they are now a defacto professional authentication group and whatever wiggle room there is in the "fine print" is meaningless. People are paying for a service and it can't be a "base opinion" whatever that means. (I can't check these things myself because I have been blocked.) Your comment to me was more disrespectful than anything I wrote to that OOS mod and I could have deleted it in a second. But unlike him, I'll let you have your piece and won't block you. Thanks for watching.
