Great point about only being able to configure from a PS5. These days controllers are expected to be able to be fully usable on PC, and especially with Sony bringing first party games to Steam, configuration from PC should be standard. I bought three Dual Sense controllers (I don't know why) and ALL of them have drift.
After it happened to me 4 times. I will never buy another PlayStation controller again f*** them. I've entirely switch to 8bitdo and other third-party Nintendo switch controllers which have the features I generally need, gyro.
Ridicoulus imo. I mean joycons are small and packed with features therefore its more fragile. Hall effect sensor sticks to avoid producing more landfill instead of swappable sticks imo. ☮️
I forget who it was that was talking about the locking mechanism, but they explained there are some gaming tournaments that only allow wired controllers. If the controller is unplugged, even accidentally, the player gets disqualified. So the locking mechanism prevents that from happening.
The reason your elite series 2 gets misaligned and seems like it needs to be a two handed job for you (4:26) is because you’re supposed to pull that soft liner off of the magnetic base altogether. It’s only placed there for shipping to protect the prongs, otherwise it should be completely removed. I have 3 elite series 2s and I just throw them on the docks and they line up perfectly every time. Alternatively you don’t NEED to keep the magnetic base inside the zippered pouch either. I just keep the bases on my tv stand and throw them on when I’m done playing. This way I don’t have to open a case every time. I get it if you want to protect your controller but to me it just adds more clutter to the stand that I’d rather not have. I think the charging base (and the internal battery) is one of the most underrated and unappreciated features of the elite series 2. I just pick up a controller it’s always fully charged and ready to go. The batteries last way longer than I’ll ever be playing so that has been one of my favorite features. Now that I’ve had my elites for years I cant go back to not having 4 back buttons either. I’m so used to using the back buttons that I rarely even use the face buttons anymore. Not having 4 on the PS controller seems like a big missed opportunity, even my steam deck has 4 back buttons. Hope this helps.
Now ill tell you why keeping the felt on and in the pouch is better long term. 1. Leaving it in the open causes a lot of dust to build up, and the elite series 2 doesn't have much going for it in terms of dust resistance. This can cause drift, and many people complain and blame Microsoft for making shitty controllers. 2. Leaving the felt on and not charging it every time you're done using it, rather than when needed will help keep your controller in good shape. And in his case, it seemed it wasn't lined up right and was further back so the felt was closer to the pins, mine is lined up well and I do not have any issue pulling it back and putting it on to charge. 3. All your things are in one place makes it easy to change things. While your controller is docked charging.
@@Oracle2448 But it is microsofts fault for making shitty controllers. Hall effect sticks have been around since the early 2000's and a premium almost $200 controller shouldn't get drift with that existing even when $40 controllers have adapted hall effect sticks
I wish they would make a PS5 controller with a better D-pad, more colors options, and more stick choices. Overall it looks good but its to high of a price point. Great Video Bob thanks for making a really good and thorough review.
I don't understand why they didn't include a customizable D-Pad. PS D-Pads are notorious for having the sticking defect. Sure enough my Edge came with a sticking D-Pad lol. I prefer the Elite
@@FlipFlopGodyour talking out your ass, you don’t even have a pc cause you would’ve known any ps controller doesn’t work on windows without DS4 or DSX.

@@lemonlime8949 this thing does 10 hours of gaming versus the switch pro controller or Xbox elite at 30-40 hours. The ps4 controller got me like 6 hours. Where’s the wave bird ran for like 90 hours. This is unacceptable
You can also use Steam to change the Elite Controller's back buttons, then it's changing based on the game you play and not the profile on the controller. Maybe there will be an update to enable doing that with the Edge.
Steam Input disables Adaptive Triggers and Haptics, so while yes it could happen to work in the future, you also lose most of the DualSense specific features you'd buy it for in the first place.
@@sutoikku sure, but some people like me prefer playstation controllers so I'd rather have a dualsense edge even just for pc games that don't use the special features
Imagine if the big brands start using hall effect sticks and the replaceable sticks would be useless. It adds very little to the cost of production and makes the controllers last significantly longer. Unfortunately that will probably never happen because Sony and Microsoft want you to buy new controllers every year.
I hope they don't use haul sticks because they are highly overrated, they are far from perfect and has its own different issues over the standard controllers. I have the gulikit zen pro with the haul sticks and it had latency/lag issue and bad drift out of the box. I bought a secondary one to see if there were some kind of defect but it turns out they were both the same. The calibration was so bad when I tested them on in the switch's calibration menu. The analogs were all over the place. However after a firmware update the latency/lag was fixed as well as the analog calibration was way better than they came out of the box, not perfect but a lot better. The dreamcast was the last console to use haul sticks and I see why. I have a video that I'll upload doing a review on these soon
A point for your review. If you connect the controller to the ps5 on usb. You are still using Bluetooth connection to play. You only use the cable connection if you go to options and change the connection to USB
Fun fact. All 4 extra buttons on the Dualsense Edge are completely remappable through steams built in input remapper. (only on a per game basis though)
3:40 THIS. Most of my roommates are into Smash Bros and all of them have wired GameCube controllers that get left around. So many switches and controllers have come crashing to the ground.
Is there a reason you didn’t mention or compare the PS5 controller from Scuf? I feel like their digital triggers, grips and 4 paddles makes it a more “pro” feeling controller
At 6:22 he mentions something about the PC not having an app for the controller, which is false. The playstation accessories app gives you full functionality of remapping and adjusting all kinds of things on the controller, exactly like how the PS5 does. I bought this controller to use on my PC and everything functions as it should and is a really enjoyable controller for me. I don't even own a PS5 lmao
I have Xbox and PS5 so I’ve spent a few months with an Elite Series 2 and just picked up the DS Edge. There is no question that the Elite feels “elite”. It’s very premium, from the triggers to the grips, d-pad, and thumbsticks. The buttons are also “clicky” like all Xbox controllers. I only use 2 of the back paddles and even then, I find myself accidentally pressing them because they sit flush against the grip. Apart from that, love the Elite. The Dualsense has an option of two bumpers if you don’t want to use the paddles, and I love them. No more accidental presses. The trigger stops do have a little more give, even on the shortest setting, than the Elite. Not a deal breaker for me. I love the customization settings being built into the PS5 as I have no plans to use the controller on a PC. I do wish that the additional sticks included weren’t all dome. There is no swappable d-pad option like on the Elite. Great to know you can swap out the thumbsticks components if you ever needed to, but that’s a feature I hope to never need. Still, it’s the best controller for PS5. Worth $200? No. This thing should’ve been priced around $140. Just not enough value given the lowered battery life, no real upgrade tot he texture, and use of same plastic components as on a regular Dualsense.
I like what I see outta the Dualsense Edge, but $200 dollars feels a little steep for a few things (specifically the connector housing) that I wouldn't end up using. I love seeing the swappable sticks that combat stick drift though, hope that becomes an industry standard. Would love to see a second row of back buttons only because I use those specifically in FPS's. I think if Playstation did what Xbox does with their Design Labs, it would help justify paying so much money for a lot of people. As always great job on the video Bob!
I think hall effect joysticks need to become the industry standard, not swappable sticks. Companies should fix flaws at the root instead of profiting off them.
2 back buttons vs 4 back buttons. You won't be able to reach d-pad with your right thumb with a DS-Edge. You won't be able to press LT and LB together with the same finger with a DS-Edge. DS-Edge is more expensive. DS-Edge has relatively small BAT life. Need to charge more frequent = degrades faster = controller subscription. Speachless...
2:33 Just wanna say that if u plan on taking this controller to tournaments, having your controller disconnect is an automatic point for your opponent. Having this lock is pretty rad ngl
There's actually multiple third-party companies for the PS5 controller including Scuf, Battle Beaver, Hex gaming, Aim, ect I actually own a few of them, there really good. Also people have been testing the battery and it can actually hold 6 to 7 hours depending on your playstyle.
Couple things to note here The lock is for competitive play specifically, for example if you disconnect your controller / fight stick while in tournament for something like Street Fighter, that is an automatic disqualification (at the very least you lose a round). Bob touched on this but most players usually don’t utilize all 4 back buttons, 2 is more than enough, seeing as how most miscellaneous third party controllers only use 2 like the 8bitdo Ultimate. The reason it looks the same as a base Dualsense controller is because Sony specifically asked pro players how they felt about the weight and size of the original and how that would correlate to a pro controller (Bigger, smaller, heavier, lighter) and were asked to keep the form factor exactly the same. Overall Bob is a casual gamer (not an insult) and you definitely need to do your own independent research before coming to your conclusion. Sony has a video explaining who the controller was for and why it was made. Likewise you should also look at pro gamer input to more so see what they think; remember guys it’s a *Pro Controller* don’t just buy it because it has shiny new back buttons. Now I don’t disagree on the Dualsense applications on PC. Those will be ironed out with time (perhaps in the coming weeks). My guess is; statistically most people use an Xbox controller on PC and most games don’t utilize the adaptive triggers (or the haptic feedback for that matter) so they’re catering to the core console audience first. It’s not like every PlayStation exclusive is on PC as is. Not necessarily right but understandable *for now* Still love you Bob, have a good one guys.
I'd rather they all use sticks that do not ever need replacement than to engineer everything to have replaceable ones. But also, lol if it only gets 4 hours of battery. That means Xbox Elite and Switch Pro controllers get a MINIMUM of TEN TIMES the battery life. I've never measured, but my Elite controller feels like it gets closer to 80 hours than the supposed 40 in the specs. For anybody that thinks it's not significant: you are putting 10 times the number of cycles on that DualSense battery, so it will need replacement much, much sooner.
I'm hoping they do release a revision with 4 back paddles. I have found myself using all 4 in most games I play, and it is really the only thing holding me back on this controller. Knowing how many ps only players exist though, it's a great step forward to have an option for them as well :)
@@WheeledHamster I completely agree! So long as you ignore the complete lack of features. Such as: Gyro Adaptive triggers Advanced haptics A mic Touchpad As well as the Xbox elite controller's widespread qc issues.
@@WheeledHamster there will always be better controller but if you look at the edge and see it for what it is. It’s very nice controller but I do hope they make 4 paddles one in the future.
I bought a black dualsense and modded it with that back attachment, games like destiny and other shooters with high jumps generate the necessity of good aerial aim so it was a first day required commodity
I'm curious about what price point this controller will be on a future Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day, etc. If this was at least $50 cheaper, it would be a much more appealing option (I'll use the cash I save for driftless sticks and some sort of attached battery pack).
So the reason that lock is there for the cable is that Dualsense controllers can be used in wired mode - meaning you're not worried about interference or delay when playing competitive games. The lock is there cos if you're playing this, and it gets ripped out your game is done for
Imo the Xbox elite is way better: the magnetic thumb sticks and varying heights are really cool. Also the dpad on the PlayStation controller is super overdue for a rework. Xbox’s new dpad is a big win!
It's definitely to support the C cable port. A tripped cable will always have a negative effect on the porch it's plugged into. Breakaway or not. That Port will become damaged long before the cable will. I've seen plenty of ports that become damaged to the point of being unable to charge the controller.
My right back paddle didn't work right out of the box. Customer support didn't want to pay for shipping, so I disassembled the edge controller to see what was going on. Simple fix though. Screws weren't evenly tightened.
It's interesting to see just how popular these "pro" gamepads have become. Personally, I just can't see myself spending $100+ on a controller, but I certainly see the appeal.
They are premium controllers made for a specific more enthusiast audience. It's not supposed to be an equally affordable replacement for the default controller. Part of the price includes everything else the controller comes with
I said the same thing with the Elite Series 2. I managed to get one cheap through trade-in and cash back I saved up and needed to burn. Played about 2 hours of Battlefield on Series X, and was hooked. I wanted the same type of controller for my PS5, and the Edge is just that. The biggest difference is that battery life. I charge the Elite Series 2 once a month. But the Edge is about once every 4 days for me. Other than that, I love the Edge more. I get why they are more. But, if you don't play a lot of FPS games, you don't need this controller. If you do play online FPS games, especially cross-platform, these controllers help.
The cable lock is probably for professional reasons. A cable disconnect will pause the game, and it's an auto lose of the round in a fighting game tournament for example.
I’ve gotten so used to 4 back buttons with my Aimcontrollers that I can’t go down to 2. That along with the longer travel for the “hair trigger” setting of the triggers makes this a pass for me.
I do enjoy a premium style controller for playing a third person narrative game. Everyone talking like these controllers only make a difference in first person shooters or other high-pace games, but in my opinion, the customizable options and especially the back buttons do make a big difference in feeling your gameplay experience feel smoother in any kind of game. Ever since I tried the back-button attachment for the PS4 I've felt an incredible relief and have had a smoother, more fluent experience by remapping buttons in a way that doesn't interfere with moving the camera. For example, jumping, dodging, interacting (like picking up collectibles while walking or especially running)... That's why I bought the DaulSense Edge, and I also have an Elite series 2 controller, which I bought on sale. I agree that the price is quite high and kinda absurd, but I do love my DualSense Edge after trying it on Ghost of Tsushima and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and I can't stress enough how fluent the gameplay experience becomes with one of these controllers even from a somewhat casual perspective.
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 trust me I know how that feels, but after using them for a couple of weeks I don't think I could go without it due to the simple fact of convenience.
I'm actually even more glad I learned soldering when I got seriously into game collecting 7 years ago. Dismantling consoles and controllers is no longer daunting, and replacing potentiometers on drifting sticks has become a really trivial task at this point. In fact, the way I've been getting controllers for cheap nowadays is through cleaning/repairing/refurbishing stick drift controllers from ebay. Got a dualsense last year for only £20. The stick drift didn't even require soldering for repairing the faulty potentiometer, just a cleanup.
I remember using the original Elite Controller in Halo 5, configured in a way that didn’t ever require me to take my thumbs off my sticks. At all. Recon control scheme(Halo 3 muscle memory), and then my paddles were sprint, melee, jump, and boost. I miss that.
@Haley Willard It would be way cooler if they engineered sticks that didn't drift in the first place, rather than selling you replacements that will likely be just a fragile as the sticks they're replacing .
@@dylanusmagnus the funny thing is, they could do exactly that with hall effect joysticks and then put a bigger battery in the controller probably, but it's better to make 20$ / joystick than nothing if you do it right... the best thing is the elite controller is way better in almost every way, and if you know how to solder , you can buy 2 joysticks for less than 10$ that are better quality than what you have in these.
This controller is madness. It costs the same price as an Xbox Series S in Europe. With this price tag it’s definitely not worth the money, it’s not even playable on PC, it doesn’t support it. If you disagree, then you are rich enough to buy 5 of them just to test it.
@@AndreaFrancoise I think he means the sticks should be engineered properly the first time, rather than sticking with flimsy sticks that drift, they ought to be making sticks that will last. A sentiment that I agree with wholeheartedly, especially for $200.
@@dylanusmagnus well, if Sony doesn’t do it first, I’m sure third party sellers will sell non drift modules down the line. The production on just the modules alone is not just cost effective but also superior to flat out buying a brand spanking new controller that is 70-100 dollars.
@@michaelmonstar4276 ?? My first DualSense developed drift after about one year. Left Joycon even sooner, Steam Controller now needs a deadzone so big, its practically unusable. What is your reasoning behind saying they "shouldn't break"?
I’m on my THIRD ps5 controller. The stick drift issues are very real. The swappable modules alone make this worth my money but also I require back paddles and play on ps5 so it’s a win for me
I assumed it was the swappable sticks. Because they exist in their own module and aren't surface mounted, I thought oh they're pushing down into that space. But after watching a teardown, it's apparently the back buttons. That and the keeping the same footprint. Though question: is the Elite controller not the same size/footprint as the stock one?
Just tested 3 elite series 2. All 3 have unresponsive A buttons. Have to press them real hard for the buttons to actuate. I guess there won't be no premium controller for me.
Is there any indication that we'll ever be able to use the back "bumpers" as unique inputs? I was pumped about the prospect of assigning air roll directions to them in Rocket league, but was really deflated once I found out that I can only replicate existing inputs with those new buttons.
4:33 The cloth there is only there for the delivety of the controller and is just part of the packaging, you aren’t supposed to leave it on the charger.
Nothing really beats the xbox (elite) controller but I will admit the dual sense is a very nice controller. I heard the battery life on the edge sucks, that alone would make me skip
I love my xbox Elite controller but the lack of Gyro and to a lesser degree the touchpad features have really held it back. This thing looks like a really good answer to it but I wish it had four back paddles and a better control stick layout. Maybe their next version will be my next premium controller.
The cost of the Xbox Elite alone ensures it's victory. You'd have to go through 3 regular DualSenses to equivocate the price of the Edge. It makes no financial sense.
As a Primary PS5 players, 98% game on PS5, this controller is a must have for games IMHO. So good and love mine. People complaining about battery life I feel is a minor complaint because your missing out on truly have an edge over other controller users IMHO.
For PC, my recommendation remains the 8bitdo pro 2 or the 8bitdo ultimate, depending on your preferred stick layout. Xbox controllers fail at both 2d and 3d games, having a bad dpad and no gyro even in their most expensive models, and this controller here is definitely quite overpriced.
I have had to replace my elite series 2 a couple of times due to the usb-c port on the controller becoming unconnected when moving around. I bet the lock mechanism is to combat that as a weak-point. With enough use It’s like old android phones and micro usb ports
Since stick drift is still an active concern, this premium priced controller should come with coverage for the first pair of sticks that bite the dust, maybe even include a spare pair. I've heard of it happening within the first couple months of ownership, that's crazy. Since they haven't changed the tech they should be responsible for replacing the first pair of junk Joy sticks. I have a hard time seeing the value in this. The only reason I would even buy a ps5 is for the exclusives, and most of the good ones are coming to PC (steam) anyway. If I want to experience haptic feedback, their premium controller should last but also be USABLE on pc. I'm not buying a console to reprogram the back buttons. That's ridiculous. Also 4 hours is a fucking joke, the only saving grace is if you DO play on pc you're probably close enough to plug in your controller. Lmao. I'd have preferred it to be a touch bulkier if it could maintain a respectful battery life. Nice dry run Sony. I don't even have an elite controller but I'm not buying into a $200 controller beta. The least they could do is fix the damned stick drift.
I cant fucking wrap my head around why they made a complicated mess for hotswappable sticks when hall effect sticks are a thing. Also i wont buy a ps5 until they have release the slim and have more than 4 ps5 only games. Thats not an overstatement. They literally only have 4 ps5 only games.
I liked it more when competitors had to use the same joystick like everyone else. It made the victories more “understandable” and by that, made it much more cool.
Anything over 100 is too much imo, the Core went on sale for like 80 bucks in my country, I picked it up and got those back padels with some longer sticks off eBay for 20 bucks, its essentially an Elite 2 for 100, it cannot get better than this, but for some reasons it does not feel as good as the Astro C40
Thank you for making the wireless/wired distinction, common misconception from earlier times that wireless is garbage when really it's basically just as good, but it's wireless which is much more convenient.
Having a Elite 2 controller, battery life seems like a massive miss. Idk what it's rated at but I feel like I get incredible battery life where I rare charge it.
Speaking from the perspective of an XBOX gamer, if the PS controller has even average build quality it will blow the XBOX controller out of the water. Microsoft's build quality is complete garbage.
I like buying one of each main comsole controllers because I'm weird and I like collecting input methods. I like the switch Pro, the PS4, the Dual Sense, the x360, the GameCube, etc. The XBoxOne has to be one of my favorites controllers, as far build quality and versatility goes. I have other controllers as my actual faves, but as with the 360 before it, the One's just fits the most use cases. I returned my Series controller 3 times because I thought I had a defect. The 3rd time I realized the build quality or QC was garbage. At least compared to the XBoxOne it was a big downgrade. My best experiences so far, as far as ergonomics and build quality has been from Nintendo and 8Bitdo. Edit and Playstation. Next comment reminded me how much I liked my DualSense, I just don't get to use it enough. I've never tried those premium edition controllers because the base units are plenty enough. Good to hear I guess the premium xbox controller of this gen isn't even worth it/suffers from the same woes as the base model. I mean it's sad but at least I don't have to worry about missing out.
As someone who takes controllers apart and mods them. The standard ps5 is by far the best made controller out right now in terms of quality materials and overall build. Haven't tried the new pro one but I definitely prefer the regular dual sense over switch pro, standard Xbox, Xbox elite, ps4, and any of the razer wolverine controllers. My go to controllers are ps5 dual sense controllers modded with the soft touch plastic and rise4 back button mods from extremerate.
@@thefreshtowel9815i might just have bad luck but ive had 4 different dualsense controllers and every single one of them has squeaky face buttons and the analog sticks make clicky noises when i use them. its just awkward to use
Own the Xbox elite controller, and I am having stick drift issues in less than a year. For their premium controller, at that cost, that’s not right. Their design is flawed. Love the concept of replaceable sticks here.
The cable lock is overkill, the USB A unplung before the C using a normal cable. I love tumb stick down because I can use the index finger on the d-pad
It’s weird how they don’t have a shallower trigger travel considering how the normal ps5 controller has a very sensitive triggers where I barely pull them and they trigger
Not many hrs on PS5 & controller is dirty. Wash your hands before playing. Obviously your controller stays cleaner and it helps prevent slipping. Clean the controller with an electronics cleaner. Spray on the rag & wipe. KontrolFreeks grips are an excellent product. Used them for several years now on PS4 & PS5.
Someone please explain the point of having multiple colors for side plates and controllers, and them in stuff like this and the official charging station, they only come in white?
Both my regular DualSense controllers the D-pad became overly mushy very quickly. All I want is a Playstation layout controller as far as the sticks go, but with a good quality floating D-Pad (exactly like a Sega Saturn one).
I have a dualsense edge and I love it. I'm a console only player so I have a ps5 and when being a ps5 owner it's nice being able to change button mapping in a menu on the console so I can easily see what is mapped to what. And the battery life is closer to 6-8 hours for me.
Bro that was a solid idea for the cable not being able to pull out. Omfg I remember how bad the ps4 controller was with that shitty cable that kept falling out, or kept turning on and off. This is amazing!
That massive screen casually playing black and white GB Tetris in the background is neat! Gargoyle’s Quest would really look brilliant running in that cabinet! I don’t have a PS5, my current lifestyle just couldn’t accommodate massive consoles like that. Great Stuff, as always.
On a note about drift, I've had my Joycons for longer and used them a lot more than my Dualsense controller. But my Dualsense is the one that has drift problems. So much so that I went ahead and bought a new one. In context, I bought my PS5 to play GT7, and I play that with a steering wheel. I've only really played Returnal and Spiderman, so it's a very small amount of usage to begin having drift issues. In contrast, I completed Zelda BotW with all the shrines, I got about 60% of all the moons in Mario Odyssey, I completed 3 pokedex, I shiny hunted a bunch of pokemon, and I have about 100 hours into my village in animal crossing. All of that with the original joycon and I still have no drift issues.
many people use pro controllers as accessibility devices, and say you have nerve damage, muscle issues or missing fingers, 4 paddles is a really great option for working around that. I found the cable lock made an already top heavy controller, more top heavy. my suspicion is that because the battery life is lower, they maybe use the cable lock as a psychological block to keep them more likely to keep it plugged in.
I wish they’d allow people to map the back buttons to a button combination. Like, left paddle being L2+R2 and right paddle being R2+L2. I don’t get why none of these premium controllers do this.
I saw the thumbnail at random when browsing something else and I was like... "bro, I don't care about these but this Jesus got some cool jokes" your daddy jokes are always hilarious
Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who for whatever reason can't get comfortable with the Playstation sticks. The offset layout is SO much more comfortable for 90% of games to me
I had my DS Edge for 6 months and the grips are peeling off. My Elite 2 is 3 times as old and feels like new still, the case material is just way higher quality. The elite 2 only surfers from cheap feeling bumped IMO. Just need hall effect sticks and it's a no brainer. Unless you like haptic triggers and 4 hrs battery life.
I was hoping in a "vs" video, there would have been more "vs". This was basically a Dualsense Edge review.
Gotta agree 👍
Great point about only being able to configure from a PS5. These days controllers are expected to be able to be fully usable on PC, and especially with Sony bringing first party games to Steam, configuration from PC should be standard.

I don't understand why they didn't include a customizable D-Pad. PS D-Pads are notorious for having the sticking defect. Sure enough my Edge came with a sticking D-Pad lol. I prefer the Elite

It adds very little to the cost of production and makes the controllers last significantly longer.
Unfortunately that will probably never happen because Sony and Microsoft want you to buy new controllers every year.
I heard Sony Could be developing some hall efftect sticks that youll be able to buy down the road.
Dont forget nintendo too since the xbox series controller,ps5 controller, and switch controllers, all use the same sticks.
My 8bitdo ultimate is fantastic. Gyro works flawlessly in steam. Macros are easy to assign in the software. Tho I mostly still use steam.
Sad there Dreamcast fixed this issue like 20 years ago
That grip joke was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Walked into a store today and bought two for $99/each on clearance.
I still use my Wii U pro controller on pc. Going strong 10 years, still 80 hour battery life
I have Xbox and PS5 so I’ve spent a few months with an Elite Series 2 and just picked up the DS Edge.
@@jet9385 read up a little on Hall effect, but they seem to have their own cons. I think for 20$ it’s not too bad to have replaceable joysticks
2 back buttons vs 4 back buttons.
You won't be able to reach d-pad with your right thumb with a DS-Edge.
You won't be able to press LT and LB together with the same finger with a DS-Edge.

DS-Edge has relatively small BAT life. Need to charge more frequent = degrades faster = controller subscription.

Just wanna say that if u plan on taking this controller to tournaments, having your controller disconnect is an automatic point for your opponent. Having this lock is pretty rad ngl
There's actually multiple third-party companies for the PS5 controller including Scuf, Battle Beaver, Hex gaming, Aim, ect
I actually own a few of them, there really good. Also people have been testing the battery and it can actually hold 6 to 7 hours depending on your playstyle.
Couple things to note here
The lock is for competitive play specifically, for example if you disconnect your controller / fight stick while in tournament for something like Street Fighter, that is an automatic disqualification (at the very least you lose a round).
Not necessarily right but understandable *for now*
Still love you Bob, have a good one guys.
good point about usb lock there
I'd rather they all use sticks that do not ever need replacement than to engineer everything to have replaceable ones.
It's a piece crap, only two back buttons, no concave high rise sticks, no tension adjustment. Elite is a better controller.
@@WheeledHamster I completely agree! So long as you ignore the complete lack of features.

Gyro
Adaptive triggers
Advanced haptics

The lock is there cos if you're playing this, and it gets ripped out your game is done for
Fax people don’t know that I cut my Bluetooth off on my ps5 and do a wired connection way more responsive almost mouse like
Imo the Xbox elite is way better: the magnetic thumb sticks and varying heights are really cool. Also the dpad on the PlayStation controller is super overdue for a rework. Xbox’s new dpad is a big win!
Great production value on your videos, I like the simplicity of your editing too
They gotta make a black, green, or blue Dualsense edge and then I’d consider it
On the Dualsense Edge those function button's are absolutely for configuring your profiles and mapping the paddles.
11:57 casual gamer hell
Agreed. Casually it's very relaxing having back buttons.
Never had back buttons and at this point I don't think I'd get used to them. It'd be like trying to get used to an Xbox controller
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 trust me I know how that feels, but after using them for a couple of weeks I don't think I could go without it due to the simple fact of convenience.
Wolf testing the control playing Hifi Rush instead of something like forspoken is unintentionally funny.
I guess it makes sense with the pc app, cause Xbox is more ”partnered with windows”?
I remember using the original Elite Controller in Halo 5, configured in a way that didn’t ever require me to take my thumbs off my sticks. At all.
Recon control scheme(Halo 3 muscle memory), and then my paddles were sprint, melee, jump, and boost.
I miss that.

I don't think we all realize how incredible those swappable analogs are... That's just beautiful!
They could have just gone there Dreamcast route and we wouldn't have to worry about it
@Haley Willard It would be way cooler if they engineered sticks that didn't drift in the first place, rather than selling you replacements that will likely be just a fragile as the sticks they're replacing .

It's not smaller, it's the same battery. The controller just uses more battery.

Nothing really beats the xbox (elite) controller but I will admit the dual sense is a very nice controller. I heard the battery life on the edge sucks, that alone would make me skip
I think of it when all features incl. back buttons works on the steam deck.
I love my xbox Elite controller but the lack of Gyro and to a lesser degree the touchpad features have really held it back. This thing looks like a really good answer to it but I wish it had four back paddles and a better control stick layout. Maybe their next version will be my next premium controller.
Ridge Racer OST is just epic. The Moment I heard it, goosebumps. Bob did you ever play a RR game? I like RR2 on the PSP. And RR7 on the PS3.
The cost of the Xbox Elite alone ensures it's victory. You'd have to go through 3 regular DualSenses to equivocate the price of the Edge. It makes no financial sense.
Like the other guy said the eilte is literally $180
As a Primary PS5 players, 98% game on PS5, this controller is a must have for games IMHO. So good and love mine. People complaining about battery life I feel is a minor complaint because your missing out on truly have an edge over other controller users IMHO.
For PC, my recommendation remains the 8bitdo pro 2 or the 8bitdo ultimate, depending on your preferred stick layout. Xbox controllers fail at both 2d and 3d games, having a bad dpad and no gyro even in their most expensive models, and this controller here is definitely quite overpriced.
You can literally swap the dpad from the elite
Only thing turning me off about getting this controller is everyone says there is no point for it when playing story driven games like TLOU or GOW
I have had to replace my elite series 2 a couple of times due to the usb-c port on the controller becoming unconnected when moving around. I bet the lock mechanism is to combat that as a weak-point. With enough use It’s like old android phones and micro usb ports
But how much moving around do you do while playing? You're not one of these controller yankers are you?
Lmfao "The Omega Stem" I busted out laughing 🤣🤣🤣

And how many people need lag free tournament style wired options for gaming? Dudes swear they're going pro at gaming. They're not
Having a Elite 2 controller, battery life seems like a massive miss. Idk what it's rated at but I feel like I get incredible battery life where I rare charge it.
Speaking from the perspective of an XBOX gamer, if the PS controller has even average build quality it will blow the XBOX controller out of the water. Microsoft's build quality is complete garbage.
I have an elite controller and thought the build quality was excellent

The Xbox breakaway cable has saved me many many times I’d like to see PlayStation do that

Here in Brazil the dual sense edge launch has been delayed 🫠

I would consider the dualsense edge but worse battery life than the standard controller is a deal breaker

That reddit post is probably out of date. They added communication over wired connection update in between since then.
I wish they’d allow people to map the back buttons to a button combination. Like, left paddle being L2+R2 and right paddle being R2+L2. I don’t get why none of these premium controllers do this.
