    I have the Nintendo Online expansion pass and quite enjoy it. I am annoyed, however, that one day the service will disappear and I won’t be able to play these games conveniently on the Switch. I will then revert back to my GBA SP and maybe get a Steam Deck for emulation. Selling these games physically on compilation carts would be amazing but will never happen.

      The only thing that makes me wonder if thats how it will go down is if they do what is happening with Pokémon Bank. Once the 3DS servers go down, Pokémon Bank is free for everyone and will always work so it makes me wonder if Nintendo will follow suit. Thats the only thing that makes me somewhat hopeful for future. Hopefully they do it because a lot of people would LOVE that.

    My feelings are so mixed about this. Gb and gba are my favorite consoles of all time. The addition of wireless and online functionality is awesome. However, I really don't like subscription services that drip feed 20+ year old games. I'm really curious about what they do with pokemon now. I'd much prefer a buy to own model. Really curious where this goes.

    • @Fernando-ek8jp
      @Fernando-ek8jp Год назад +3

      A subscription model might be a good fit if you consider that if Nintendo makes a new console, they'll probably start things over again. At that point, if you want to own the game it's just better to either get the original hardware, or just emulate it. Otherwise you end up in the same situation as a long of long time Nintendo fans are now: "Guess I'll buy Super Mario for the 10th time now"

Nintendo could do the same with newer consoles and a buy to own model, but they CHOOSE not to, because they make some of the worst business decisions in the industry
      I'm gonna say it: If you want more retro games on Switch, Mod your your switch and pirate them, that way you own them

    • @Fernando-ek8jp
      @Fernando-ek8jp Год назад +2

      @@megaman37456 And the worst part is that basically everything from the NES up to the N64 could easily be handled via emulation by the switch. I get wanting to get more money, but if they cared a bit more about online services, they could have totally just come out with an official emulator for the switch, charged for it (given the amount of money that people spend on re buying those old games, they could have easily charged $60), and allowed people to re-download the games that they had bought in previous devices. The problem being that since there is no unified Nintendo account, that's basically a non starter.

    • @fryke
      @fryke Год назад

      @@Fernando-ek8jp There is, now. It just starts from _now_. They've made it quite clear in their financial meetings, that the current online accounts will be taken into the future. Sure, it sucks that you bought the games on 3DS and Wii-U and can't use those on Switch - but we'll have the digitally bought Switch games on the next console, and it'll continue the Online Subscription as well as the Expansion pack, to which subscribing makes sense if you're into Nintendo's games, anyway. They want (and need) a constant flow of money, and their current model is _clearly_ working for them better and with _much_ more success than during the Wii-U/3DS times.

    • @Fernando-ek8jp
      @Fernando-ek8jp Год назад +1

      @@fryke Which is the worst of all worlds because now you don't even have the choice to own anything, because it's subscription only. For me the subscription model for Nintendo makes sense because they end up abandoning hardware anyways, so if you want to own something you're better off buying the game used and then get a rom. Having it be subscription only is sad. To be clear, I like subscription models, I actually use the EA one, but at least there I have the option to buy the game as well.

      @RickMidds Год назад

      First of all, you have to remember that this is one of the first console shooter games and when they ported it to Switch they kept it as original as possible or people would have bashed it all over the internet. It has auto aim, so just point yourself in the direction of an enemy and pull the trigger and they go down. Now if you try to aim down sight it’s not very steady. Movement is forward, backwards, left and right because all you had was a D-pad and one thumb stick for movement back then.
      You can reconfigure the buttons to a more modern set up. Just look on RUclips. There are plenty of videos on how to do it. You can even save the new button configuration and name it something like 007. When you want your controller back to a normal configuration when you turn on the Switch it will ask you if you want to reset the buttons back to normal or keep the current modified configuration. When you want to play 007 just go back to the controller settings and click on your saved custom settings.
      I was hoping when they first said it was coming to the Switch that it would have a second more modern version of the game but that didn’t happen. Who know maybe in the future they will.

    The "smaller screen" effect is for handheld mode. I have an OLED model and compared the sizes of my Gameboy Color screen and the size of the screen from the Switch Gameboy resize effect and they're not quite the same. I'm sure if I was running it on my original Switch it'd match up to scale properly or at least more similar in size.

      Ya but that's a janky solution.
      On Steam if you go into desktop mode If you go into the controller settings there is an option to remap your controller in there and if you do that every game gets changed which is pretty much what you're doing on the switch. Versus having the controller remapping that Steam has built into itself for every game where you can map individually each game how you like. Then you only need to make one one configuration software and it'll work across all the games Big brain move valve.

    I know this isn’t as convenient as having an in app option but you can remap your controllers on the switch Home Screen and have saved configurations. It would be easy to remap the x & y buttons for the game boy & game boy advanced. And for goldeneye, switch the left stick and right stick and then in-game, switch to 1.2 solitaire controller configuration. That equates to modern movement.

    -maybe get thumbstick caps to deal with sensitivity issues. I have a set ranging from 2mm to 12mm additional height
    Almost plays like a modern shooter now.

    Tbh, I don't think having Switch Online have those games is a bad idea(though GBA is not worth the $50 tier, I'm sorry). The approach of just having a singular emulator app is also a good way to save space. The problem is that Switch Online more or less holds these games hostage. If they let you play certain retro games for free if you buy Switch Online, AND let you purchase them separately from the eShop, it'd actually be worth it, I think. Cause like you said, Switch Online is a good place to try out games, I just view it as a bad way of preserving games.

    The GB/GBC/GBA Pokemon Games are definitely coming without a doubt, most people assume they'll be revealed during the Pokemon Direct on their own cause one is coming up and they'll likely take a bit longer to release cause they'll want the games to be compatible with Pokemon Home much like how the 3DS Virtual Console Versions took longer but are compatible with Pokemon Bank.
    Something I don't see anyone talking though is, with the Mario Game having it's E-Reader content unlocked that likely means the same will go for the GBA Pokemon Games (for example the special Trainer Battles and Latias/Latios Eon Ticket Event) as well potentially include old events like Deoxys and Mew (there's a precedence for this with the 3DS Gen 2 VC Versions containing the Celebi Event)!

    The scaling thing is something Nintendo isn't new to doing. They've had it as a feature in the (3)DS systems when you hold start + select while the games are booting up. It's honestly a really noticeable difference in quality. Just got done playing through Pokemon Crystal and it's so much more clean when it's in its native resolution. Small picture, but very nice to look at. Another cool bonus on the 3DS Virtual Console games (buy the games, it's only just over a month left to do so) is that they give you a Gameboy border that actually uses the 3D to a cool effect.
