does it also hold the small camera when it's not in the charging body...?

Not sure what you mean. The small camera sits in there and is charging at all times when it's in there (until the battery is full). I rarely take the camera out unless I need it to be waterproof

I'd assume so since the mount that comes with the camera works like that (the holes the mount uses are the same distance apart on the pod as they are on the actual camera)

Yes. It does hold the camera out of the charging pod
