  • Godox AD600 AD200 and V860ii - What I use and Why. There's a flash or strobe for every situation that calls for extra light. I chose three different Godox models, the AD600, AD200 and V860ii for my work at weddings and engagements. Each does a certain thing and does it well, and there's some amount of overlap too, so we have versatility in our lighting. Plus, it's a whole system, so one transmitter or speedlight can control the whole set of strobes. Best thing though? Portable, powerful, battery operated wireless radio controlled flash... at an affordable price. Everything I show in this video can be purchased together for just about $1150. That's pretty amazing for good, solid working camera gear!

    Agree Godox is good. IMO the way to go and the one to beat. Sold all my Nikon speedlights and a Profoto Air B2. Started with one small speedlight now have 3 x AD200s with roundheads, various accessories etc. Just bought roundhead speedlight too. All in, less than price of one Profoto head. It's never missed a beat and I'm delighted I switched,

      I'm about to pull the trigger on the AD200 pro. My only concern is how well does this do in daylight? I am trying to get into outdoor portraits but debating picking this up now or waiting to save up extra for the AD400.

      Lighting manufactures had been overpriced for years... exploiting photographers under the guise of professional and the cost could be subsidised from a client. Godox came in and changed all that.

    I really enjoyed your video. Very interesting, I have exactly the same set up as you do I have the AD 600TTL, 2 x AD200’s However because of the flexibility of the remote battery pack I have 2 x PB 600s That I use for my 2 x TT685’s that allow me to shoot 1800 full power pops on each TT 685 and it has the exact same power output as the V860. I also use the two remote cable options for the AD 200’s allowing a much lower center of gravity by attaching the power unit to the bottom of the light stand so if it does fall over there is absolutely no damage whatsoever because it just lands on either the umbrella or the soft box. Nonetheless GODOX are Extremely reliable. Just one small piece of advice for anyone using the zoom of the speed lights. I was doing a photo shoot for ELLE magazine and I had my resume set to 14 mm on a shoot through umbrella and I was shooting super fast and I melted the plastic fresnel lens. Not too badly just enough to get a whole bunch of an almost carbonation looking bubbles on the surface. Fortunately, Amazon were kind enough to allow me to return it for a full exchange. So whenever I use my zoom I never zoom more than 35 mm. And one last and very important feature is you can use the exact same flash units for different camera systems all you need to do is change the transmitter type, I.e Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, etc. You can use your GODOX TT 685 Canon compatible speed light with a Fuji camera if you’re using the Fuji GODOX transmitter for example. So, if you have any of the GODOX flash units and you decide to change camera systems you can keep all of your flash units all you need to do is change the transmitter and the transmitters will sell from anywhere from $45-$65 each. Just one caveat interchangeability implies off of camera flash triggering. If you want the speed light directly on your camera yes you do need the exact brand.

    I have the exact same set of flashes!! Holy trinity. Except for speedlight which I choose TT685, as I like to have option to use AA... just in case I ever to forget to recharge. I can purchase 4 AA quickly from a local convenience store in a pinch. All these flashes are AMAZING!! The batteries in the AD600 and AD200 last forever! I have never had any issues with them. The only thing I will say... but this isnt just for Godox, it included all manufacturers... over last 15 years, the trend has been to make these units out of plastic... for weight and cost. Earlier flashes had metal housings. This made them a great deal more robust... especially for falls. I had a flash made my Jinbei many years ago, that blew over onto concrete. Still worked fine, albeit a dent. With modern portable flashes have to much more careful. Sandbags, sandbags, sandbags!!

    I've been a working photographer for over 35 years. When I started working with studio strobes, it was Speedotron, Broncolor and Elinchrom (all rentals). Eventually I settled on the Elinchrom packs because of their portability (again, talking a long time ago), and eventually switched to Elinchrom monolights. A few months ago, my Elinchrom's finally started to demonstrate problems (note, these are all significantly more than ten years old), so I started looking for replacements. A new Elinchrom set of monolights would have cost me over about $2000. I got Godox monolights for less than a third of that. The controller and just how well they work is amazing. The prices are unreal (from my perspective). I am considering purchasing an AD200 Pro or an AD300 Pro to toss in my Pelican case with my cameras as an additional, easy to transport light for those situations where I need that one more accent light, and would rather not rely on a speedlight. Thanks for the review, it was very informative.

    I use rechargeable batteries, and I'm not having a single issue with the transmitters misfiring… Will keep your tip in mind just in case. Maybe I'm using a good voltage of rechargeable battery or something. Thanks for mentioning this. I'm not here for spending an ungodly amount of money on disposable batteries. They are so ridiculously expensive, and I've had my triggers' batteries run down if the switch is accidentally left on. The switches are also easy to bump and turn on by accident. But I'll definitely remember this in case I start running into issues.

    I was an early adopter of GOD-ox (translator's note: the name comes from the Chinese 神牛, which literally means "sacred cow" or "holy cow") gear from the very first AD360, and the company's evolution has been nothing short of phenomenal. The only reason I could see changing to a different system is if I got rich and had my own very profitable commercial studio, or if the longer flash duration became an issue for shooting certain performers like dancers or athletes.

I use a sony a7iii and only recently sold my sony HVL F45RM because its wireless flash transmitter is nearly 500$ :(. So i sold that flash in hopes to find a better value for money setup. Hey I would like to add a note for the X1 controller yeah the non pro if your camera has a flash menu and a custom button that could be remapped or better if your camera has a dedicated button for flash then you can change flash parameters easier note I told easier because you still have to fink through the different section but it is better than the on-device controls the TLDR is it's useable but if you got the extra buck go for the pro, myself I use 77d and it has a dedicated flash button and touch screen so changing flash setting is snappy for my setup. And also with the X1 non pro it has hot shoe above it so you don't lose your hot shoe for other equipments.

    Godox is great value.
    Best head for the AD200 is bulb and 5" reflector. The round head has good light but not much of it.
    The AD600 is my go-to flash.
    Apart from some battery problems, I've had no trouble with the Godox stuff.
    Best of all the trigger works across all the range.
    My only complaint is that Godox has no trigger for my Hasselblad H cameras.

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  4 года назад +1

    • @roybixby6135
      @roybixby6135 4 года назад +1

      Godox has aluminium protectors for the bare bulb (sold desperately of coarse)
      But the 5" reflector may not be as versatile as the round head but gives more light.
      I may be biased towards reflectors because i've used them for so long...

      Nope, it does have a modelling light but it’s not powerful enough for that.

    Hi! New subscriber here, thank you for your video. I am looking for a flash for mainly portrait pathography and this video has clear my questions. Do you happen to have an update on this equipment since this video is from 2019? I know equipment updates pretty quick :) TIA

    Great channel name :-) Very informative. I have the V860IIC, V1C and the X1 Pro and they are fantastic flashes with my Canon 5D Mk III. Everything works very well. The only thing I get is VERY occasionally I will get a misfire on one of the flashes, but that's probably because one wasn't ready before the other.

    Nice video. I use flashpoint as well and am very pleased!! Question - what is that model of speedlight you are using because the head of it looks different. It has hammerhead look to it. Did you modify yours by chance?

    • @Brianized

      It's a V860ii with Magmod adapter on it.

    I am intrigued by this system, especially being able to use the mounted speed light as the trigger. Does the V860ii have an articulated head (meaning it clicks into various angles)? I can find recycling times, estimated flashes on the Amazon listing but no mention of articulation. Thx.

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  4 года назад

      Yep just like nikon or canon flashes it has an articulated head.

    I great video, I had a question regarding the AD200, is this strong enough to shoot portraits during the day ? I'm debating picking this up now or saving up for the AD400Pro.

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  5 лет назад

      Depends. I have done it. In Florida, it’s rough. The ad600 is better, far better and in the brightest conditions I am at full power so... even 400 may not do it. The 200 is convenient, and in some light it can work wonderfully, but every once in a while you gotta use the big gun. I felt the 400 was meh... as big as the 600 but only double the power of a 200.

    • @DennisMoncla

      I’ve yet to be bested by the sun with my 200. The Texas sun is fairly harsh. I’m sure it will happen to me as I really try to avoid very harsh conditions. The 200 is my go to for almost everything. I don’t break out the 860ii much anymore. That bare bulb in a small soft box is magical.

    • @DennisMoncla
      @DennisMoncla 4 года назад +2

      Well shortly after writting that I was bested by the sun. I just couldn't get enough power. First time that has happened to me though. Just thought I'd update my comment.

    I just ordered a package deal on amazon with a trigger and one v8k60II. I have my first family portrait (with newborn) session coming up. Large family. What sort of deflectors would help me out for an indoor mostly (some outdoor shots) shoot?

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  3 года назад

      It's hard to say, but... honestly for an outdoors shoot, that flash may not be powerful enough.

    Great video, I love Godox! Question, you use the pro transmitter however it doesn't have a hot shoe for the flash like the other so how do you use your flash on camera like you mentioned? Do you transmit using the flash?

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  5 лет назад +1

      The flash is also a transmitter! No need for a separate one when you also want a flash on your camera.

    Hello sir I like your videos, thanks. But I have a question, I just bought 1 of the ad600bm and I want to put up the shutter speed but it doesn't allow me, it just go up to 1/250 put when I am outside I have to bring it up. Is there anything that I am not doing? I am using it with nikon D4. Thanks for the help

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  4 года назад

      You have to set the transmitter to hss mode.

    I’m an amateur hobbyist but this year got into it a lot more. I shoot with a Sony a7rii and recently got the 860ii and the xpro transmitter. Flash is pretty daunting to learn as I’ve mainly shot landscapes and long exposures. Do you use the high speed sync? I haven’t really dived into it yet but I’m speculating shooting with a wide open aperture during the day you would need a much faster shutter speed. Others are telling me high speed sync doesn’t matter. And when do you want to use ttl?

    I have the V1 and a transmitter already, but I'm planning on adding one more strobe to my kit for outdoor/environmental portraits. If I'm only planning on one other light to add to my kit, would you recommend the AD200 or AD400?

    Thanks so much. I like your style and great info here. I wonder what is the difference bgetween the AD600BM and the AD600Pro? I just bought the AD600Pro + 2x AD200 + the XPro trigger and I shoot Canon 5D mkii and 600D. As I'm new to flash setup I'd love to see you set up the system and explain basic use...but there's prob tutorials on this I have not looked yet.

    • @Brianized
      @Brianized  5 лет назад

      Main difference between BM and pro is price, color consistency and TTL. The 600pro is better, I just bought mine for very specific uses so didn't feel the need for TTL or the extra cost!
