I haven't read the books, but i loved the series, i think is so well made, i realy enjoy it. I would like u guys to see it all. If u enjoy it too, of course
PLEASE do the entire series!!! I'm going to share this in my Shadow and Bones group on Facebook if they allow it, hopefully I can get more people to watch.
Basically, Ravka's army is divided in the First and the Second. The First is normal people with no powers and the Second is the infamous grisha. The grisha are also divided in three orders: *Etherealki: the order of the summoners* (dressed in blue) - Inferni: control fire - Squallers: control wind - Tidemakers: control water *Materialki: the order of Fabrikators* (dressed in purple) - Durasts: can manipulate solid materials like metal and glass - Alkemi: can manipulate chemicals and create explosives and such *Corporalki: The order of the living and the dead* (dressed in red) - Healers: those who specialise in healing wounds - Heartrenders: basically the deadliest, can slow or speed up your heart, crush your lungs, break your bones etc. Then there's Alina and General Kirigan, who are the rarest grisha and can control sunlight and shadow respectively.
The General is the only one to dress in black because Alina refuses to wear it, but she’s asked to wear a black kefta with golden embroidery. She refuses wearing black, so she gets a blue one embroidered in gold.
fun fact of the day( for those who dont read books) kaz, jesper and inej (the thieves) are from another book which is six of crows by the same author of shadow and bones. for some reason they did a cross over and planning of making a netflix series for six of crows as well (ALLEGEDLY) but anything they do in here doesnt really affect or spoil anything from the book, for six of crows character that is. for shadow and bones they gave justice to the book. IMO!!!
The nation of Ravka is inspired by Tsarist Russia in the early 1800s. The Island of Kerch, is based off of the Venetian Dutch Republic, while the city of Ketterdam, is based off of Amsterdam and all the other large cities. Shu Han is based off of China. Fjerda is based off of Scandinavia.
Already commented on Patreon, but please continue with this series! It’s such a wonderful book to series adaptation, one of the best I’ve ever seen. Hopefully we’ll get a second season for it (and honestly several more) because it was absolutely incredible. The cast is perfect imo
i'd been debating whether to watch this show and then when i saw this reaction i said "welp that seals it!" i just watched the first episode and then came right here, so i hope you guys (and i) enjoy the later eps enough to keep going, and we'll watch it together :)
Yeah, it watches a lot like a book. U have to kinda catch up with lore as it goes, but the effects and budget are top notch which makes it always topically enjoyable
Okay here’s some explanation from a huge fan of the books no spoilers obviously! Ravka (where Alina and Mal are) is in fact Russian inspired! Alina is part Ravkan and Shu (Shu Han is Asian inspired I’m not sure which Asian country exactly though). Ravka is spilt in half by the fold (east and west Ravka). The south (Shu Han) guard their mountains and don’t let people pass. The north (Fjerda) wants to kill grisha (the magic people) so the only way to get supplies is to go through the fold. Kaz, Inej, and Jesper are from Ketterdam on the island of Kerch which is inspired by Amsterdam. If you want to know the exact location of everything there are plenty of maps online that show exactly where everything is in relation to each other. Now for the grisha! There’s orders of the grisha. - Corporalki, or the Order of the Living and the Dead. Within this order you have healers (they can heal people), heartrenders (They can use their power to damage a person's internal organs. Their ability ranges from slowing a person's pulse to snatching the air from their lungs. The target must be in their line of sight.), and the tailors (ability to change a person's appearance but they are very rare and there’s only one known tailor I think you meet her episode 2.) - Etherealki, or the Order of Summoners. Within this order you have Inferni (manipulate fire), Tidemaker (manipulate water), Squallers (manipulate air). Then you have the two rare types of summoners the shadow and sun summoner. - Materialki, or the Order of Fabrikators. Within this order you have Durasts (manipulate glass, steel, wood, plants, stone, or anything solid on a molecular level.) and Alkemi (They specialize in chemicals like blasting powders and poisons.)
Just finished your reaction! And yes, the show does well at explaining things that non-readers aren't aware of so you're mostly good! If ever you don't upload a reaction per episode, maybe a short review video after?
This is a great show... And the world building is awesome... The people with "powers" are called Grisha, they are part of the Second Army (an army of Grisha, the First Army is the regular soldiers) and General Kirigan, who is a Shadow Summoner, is the leader of the Second Army and basically the head of all the Grisha... And he is indeed very powerful, in his powers and in his influence... The country the live in is called Ravka, they have a monarchy, and the country got split in two by The Fold, the reason why they have to cross it so much is because it is the only way to get supplies and trade from the other side of the fold (which is the part of the country where the coast is and all the trades with other nations happen) is to go thru it; they can go around it but it is extremely difficult because in the north you have Fjerda, which is another nation and they have been constantly at war, Fjerdans hate Grisha and they often kill them or capture them; and in the South you have the Shu Han, which is another nation also in constant conflict with Ravka (That is why Alina gets so much hate for being part Shu, they don't like each other), they also persecute Grisha to use them and experiment on them. The persecution against Grisha is very important for the characters and the story, you will see... Even in this episode you can see that the regular people here in Ravka don't really like the Grisha, the don't trust them, etc... Even tho the Second Army and the Grisha are the main reason the country hasn't been taken over by other nations.
Awesome reaction. I really hope this video performs well enough for you guys to continue watching on the channel. I found the geography a little hard to follow at times in this show, so I’m gonna give a quick recap of where characters are based on what the show has already revealed in this episode. If you don’t want to read it then please ignore the rest of this comment! . . . . . Ravka is the country where Mal, Alina, General Kirigan, and the Grisha (general term for magic people) are raised. It’s divided by the Fold into East and West Ravka. Mal and Alina are from East Ravka. The guy who runs all the way out of the Fold makes it to West Ravka, but Mal and Alina’s ship returns back to East Ravka. Kaz, Inej, Jasper, and the heartrender are all in a different country than Ravka. Their country is also west of the Fold, so that’s why they need to cross and come back to get Alina. Shu Han borders the south of Ravka. It’s home to the Shu people (Alina’s ethnicity) and at war with Ravka. There’s a different people to the north of Ravka but I don’t believe they’ve been introduced just yet.
I love to see non-readers watch the show. Like, I can't wait to see what you guys think of the characters and the storyline; what you'll figure out, what'll get you excited and what'll disappoint and... As a reader, I'm just excited to see what non-readers think and understand from this. Because the show was so special, and such a good adaptation that all readers I know are excited about it and loved it. But I think that we got excited or pissed about very little details and easter eggs that would simply not even be a blip on your radar, and I need to know that non-readers enjoy it as much as we did!
THIS IS AWESOME i actually watched it and got interested to read the books, I loved the world that they built and the duology of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom were so good
this show is so cool! your reaction is so amazing as well! i loved the books and the adaptation and its always fun to see people unfamiliar with the universe watch the show for the first time. Episodes 5, 7 and 8 (the last one) are my favs, i hope you continue the series its an amazing show and the characters are well written too, thank you for the video!!
Okay that's it, I finally subscribed to your channel! You guys are really reacting to all the right movies and shows so I end up watching your videos anyway haha Can't wait for all the videos to come! :) and I (as a fan of the book series) loved the Shadow and Bone TV show!
I have never read the books but I binged it in two days when it was released on Netflix. Very near when I found your channel! I’m beyond thrilled you guys are doing the show!! I wondered what your reactions would be.🤘🏼
I love how you guys were trying to figure out the world and what the story is and I really enjoyed seeing your reaction and coming in new without reading the books and still enjoying the show a lot.The books are really good but Six of Crows is the best series. After the Fold was created, they divided people into two groups, the First and Second Army who use their powers to help defeat the Fold. The Second Army are the people with powers, also called Grisha. Each person wears a different colored kefta depending on what their power is. Heartrenders wear red, Etherealki wear blue, Materialki wear purple, and Corporalki wear white with gold. The group that are coming for the Sun Summoner are the Crows. I’ve watched the show three times and it’s so good and it was so well-made and they kept it very close to the books while still changing some things but not a lot.
Never clicked on a video so fast, I love your reactions and I love Shadow and bone SO MUCH and it's SO COOL, I really hope you react to all of it because you're gonna love it! Great reaction, thank you!
YEEEEEES OHMYGOOOOD I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!!! Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom (part of the books of the Grisha Verse) are my favorite duology, and this show, the adaptation of the Grisha Verse is FANTASTIC. To explain a bit: Ravka Russia and similar countries, Fjerda Nordic countries, Shu Han east asian countries. Also to explain more, Alina's story doesn't actually intersect with Kaz' story in the books, it's two different sagas from the same universe happening in different times, but somehow they made it work, and they made it work fantastically well!
No spoilers, just a quick explanation of the locations and ideologies: The main locations are Ravka (Divided in 2 because of the fold and in war because of it), Fjerda (north of Ravka), Shu Han (south of Ravka) and Kerch, where there's the city of Ketterdam (where the crows are from). The Fjerdans believe Grishas are evil witches, the Shu Han experiment on Grishas and in Ketterdam Grishas are usually bought as slaves. East Ravka is basically the only safe place for Grisha.
OHMYGOD i just finished watching your HP Deathly Hallows Reaction a few minutes ago !! And i've been binging your HP reactions since yesterday 😂😂 S&B is one of my favourite shows 🥺 i've read all 3 books and waited for the show for a whole year so you guys reacting to this is AWESOME 🎉🎉🎉
I'm so excited you guys are checking this out! I absolutely loved it and had been wondering if you guys were gonna react to it. I'd love it if you did the whole season!
Such a great show! The books (especially six of crows) are super good and iconic in the YA book realm-so glad new people are being reached to through this show! Welcome to the Grishaverse haha
i love that you made the video about this. I thought that you will talk about how there is a diferent stile of cutting the secen and filming when the series telling the story of Crows (Kaz and his friends) so... I hope i see it in the next video :)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEE continue watching the show!! I finished the entire season in 8 hours, started at 1 am and finished at 7:30 am, was the most fun I've had in years. I re-read the books before watching it and it made it so much better!
Loved this series, I’m watching for the second time. I even bought the books and finished them in record time. You should definitely keep watching as it just gets better.
Mal isn’t actually from Shu-Han, he is more likely half Suli(Indian). So he isn’t bullied against as much as Alina since Ravka is at war with the two surrounding countries, Shu-Han who want to dissect and test Grisha for their powers like lab rats and Fjerda, heavily conservative who want to kill them as witches. Plus Mal grew up to become sort of a victorious ring fighter so he got a strong reputation for himself that warned off bullies.

This series is phenomenal. I watched it through TWICE, each time in one sitting. I don't know how you could even consider not finishing the series after watching the first two episodes, especially when there are only 8 episodes. I hope you will react to the rest!
If you want us to continue this show on the channel, give it some love!!! Cause lowkey, I'm prbly gonna watch either way lol
Yeah, I missed the deadline on that one, but I’m gonna avoid season 4 spoilers and then do reactions to the whole show!!
I really hope you post your reactions to the upcoming episodes - it’s such a great show!!

Oh wow 😆😱 never thought that you'll watch it, so I guess I'll be watching this now to keep up with you 🤭💕
This show is so good didn’t expect to like it this much, tho I haven’t finished it yet. I loved the books, six of crows especially.
Hope you guys continue it
No spoilers, just a quick explanation of the locations and ideologies:
The main locations are Ravka (Divided in 2 because of the fold and in war because of it), Fjerda (north of Ravka), Shu Han (south of Ravka) and Kerch, where there's the city of Ketterdam (where the crows are from). The Fjerdans believe Grishas are evil witches, the Shu Han experiment on Grishas and in Ketterdam Grishas are usually bought as slaves. East Ravka is basically the only safe place for Grisha.

yesss i´m so happy you guys are doing shadow and bone!
didn't expect this show omg if u continue it it'd be cool
Mal isn’t actually from Shu-Han, he is more likely half Suli(Indian).
So he isn’t bullied against as much as Alina since Ravka is at war with the two surrounding countries, Shu-Han who want to dissect and test Grisha for their powers like lab rats and Fjerda, heavily conservative who want to kill them as witches. Plus Mal grew up to become sort of a victorious ring fighter so he got a strong reputation for himself that warned off bullies.
YESSSS I love this show and am currently reading the books!! Would LOVE to see the rest of these reactions from you guys!

This series is phenomenal. I watched it through TWICE, each time in one sitting. I don't know how you could even consider not finishing the series after watching the first two episodes, especially when there are only 8 episodes. I hope you will react to the rest!
