While I didn't mention this specifically, I would like to also point out that the "Upgrade Card Pack" is also a tremendous value and should probably be one of the first things you buy. I think I forgot to include it in the list because it had no plastic in it.
I bought the card pack thinking I wasn't going to start a Clone War army. Then I buy everything available for CIS and CLONES Making this card pack a little redundant. Even have my AAT comming in a few days.
you really need three sets of dice. my first game i was short one die on two different occasions. i love legion so much but ima skeered to start painting my minis. can i primer them, from a far enough distance, with spray paint???
@@Veheloth 2 months later, I hope you've started painting already :P You definitely can primer with a soft spray from a distance. Just don't get too far back or the paint will dry before it hits, leaving a rough textured finish. I usually do a test spray of some bases to get a feel for the can.
Talks about AT-ST "It's an expensive kit" Warhammer 40k: Am I a joke to you? Legion is super cheap compared to most other tabletop games, 50 bucks is like cheaper than a Space Marine squad these days! Love the video though, can't wait to see the other factions!
Yeah Chaos Space Marines just got slapped with a big price jump a few months ago. They got new model sculpts and their price went from $35 to $60 pretty much over night. Its getting crazy.
In my opinion Wh40k has gotten alot better. Some boxes are very good value (Looking at you Primaris intercessors). While some are just terrible (Imperial Guardsmen, Primaris snipers).
I think the best way to get into the game right now is 1 core set, imperial specialists, and the stormtrooper upgrade, and upgrade card pack that will get you competitive in skirmish. Then you can see if you like the game or not.
Man I found you only a month ago but boi you changed my life. Legion is such a fun game, and the pleasure of painting is immeasurable. Keep up the great work!
I just purchased the AT-ST and it is a beautiful model!! Thanks for putting out these "What to buy" videos, as a new player these videos help guide my purchases. Alas, I have not been playing that much (time constraints) but I just pointed out my first 800 pts list last night. Keep up the great work
New subscriber. Looking forward to jumping into Legion in the next couple months. Thanks for all the info. Invaluable. Watched your videos from Feb 2018 and 2019, and was hoping a new one would post very soon :)
I really enjoy watching your “what to buy first” videos. Your Armada and X-wing “what to buy first” videos are great too. Keep up the good work. Your videos get better and better just like FFG’s Legion sculpts. 👍
It's worth noting that an errata just dropped and shores have been slightly nerfed with changes to cards. Still super cool, just a bit less over powered.
I want to get into Legion so bad, it looks like a ton if fun to play, and I would play Imperial. Its just so expensive though, and I don't know if the value is enough for the cost.
I just bought in this week! Going Republic and my whole bill was less than $200. I split a core set with a buddy and picked up the cards, phase 1 upgrade, rex, and extra dice. Speaking as a big 40k player, this game is a steal for an entire army. $200 in 40k, might get you half of what you need to play a normal sized game not counting books etc. So if your looking a value, I would say Legion is one of the best.
I was gifted the lesser painted remainder of three core sets. I've painted two stormtrooper squads, Vader, Vader operative, Boba Fett, Veers and two speeder squads. My next purchase will be an ATST, Iden Versio, special forces and shore troopers.
2 cores was the perfect idea, thanks. Watched a while back and took your advice. I've got stormtroopers for days. My 2nd Vader is a variant I'm gonna try and mimic (someone did battledamaged Vader). 😏
Seems like the new stuff tends to be better than the older stuff. Hopefully they do an annual audit of each unit and try to address and power creep and bring some old favorites back into regular play.
Man, I dove right in and just ignored the budget. I didn't buy the coreset until after already purchasing a ton of other stuff. I needed this video last December ha. the coreset def saves money if you don't want to buy the sticks and stuff separately. Splitting the coreset would be nice or trading units.
As a new player, and an imperial one, this I am sure will be awesome for me, so thank you before I even watch it. However, I just wish I had it even sooner.
The droids, the newest wave of clones (with the ARC troopers), and the clone/separatist tanks are the first ones to be hard plastic. All other models before that use soft plastic. They shouldn’t be “avoided” in my opinion, but do have their flaws such as poor detail and priming before putting them together can mess up your primer having to stretch stuff on. But they are still highly detailed, and easy to put together compared to competitors products.
you really need three sets of dice. my first game i was short one die on two different occasions. i love legion so much but ima skeered to start painting my minis. can i primer them, from a far enough distance, with spray paint???
How's this holding up ? Following the budget plan for this one. Snagged me Core, Krenic, Shore troopers,Death troopers and Fett..so looking for directions to go
So Far I have Bossk and some Stormtroopers and I was thinking of picking up General veers, some more stormtroopers, Scout troopers, Imperial Storm troopers, Dewback Rider and a AT-ST. would it be worth adding The Emperor, Royal Guards,? and what would you recommended Snow or shore troopers? I'm planning on rationing models
Buy 2 starter boxes for storm troopers. Then put storm troopers in the extra box and play shore troopers as core. What are people legitimately getting to play with in 2 starter boxes at $200?
I thought the Darth Vader Operative Expansion was during Return of the Jedi when Palpatine has taken Command. At least I like to think of it that way since Luke Skywalkers Operative Expansion is during RotJ and he's not a Commander.
What has changed from this vid since the new faq/errata? I'm looking to get into SW Legion, and your video are insanely helpful, but I am just scared the new FAQ changed a lot regarding the content of the video :x
I'd love to get into Legion too, but I lack time to paint and the requisite funds. Armada will be my jam forever. Until I win the lottery, then everything will be my jam.
Was thinking of buy the clone core set and kinda just mixing the 2. Not playing competitive atm just for fun. Also wanna get some free for all and 2v2 games going
Yeah! been waiting for this! I may pull the trigger on an Empire army once my tax refund comes in in a few weeks. It'll depend on what's in stock but I was thinking about going with one core set (plus dice pack and upgrade card pack), two Shoretroopers, Stormtrooper personnel upgrade, and a commander (probably Veers). I've got a local shop with tables and store copies and whatnot so terrain isn't really a concern right away. I could still be persuaded to go with two core but that's a bit more expensive than the above. Any thoughts, anyone?
I’m having an impossible time finding imperial light cruisers and arquitons in legion, can anybody help? They’re not great or new ships but they’re more expensive then the recent wave that just released! (Armada)
Man, arquitens are in high demand and there is barely any stock. I only managed to get one because i was quick/lucky when they came into stock briefly, They were sold out in minutes. It's very frustrating as an Armada player, i can't get arquitens, light carriers, raiders, gladiators or ISD
Eli Wintercross even or order the arquitens off walmart website it’s $150, they might source that through someone else though. Still, I play with my brother and I play rebels, I’m nearing one of every ship but he can make much variety because every empire ship gets sucked off of Amazon immediately. I had to buy a rebel assault frigate in spanish just to get one
Well, after watching one of your other videos on the up coming price increase, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the game...and my local game shop promised me a bundle deal to boot...
I've heard before that Boba Fett isn't really the greatest. But that wasn't enough to stop me from getting him as my first operative. Screw synergy. Just look at that model.
Here is an updated version of this video for 2022! ruclips.net/video/1j4JVsZOfw8/видео.html

Crabbok this isn't really anything to do with the video but did you ever collect and play Star Wars miniatures by wizards of the coast?

I remember when a space marine squad used to cost about 40.
But i stopped playing 40k almost a decade ago now.
Yeah Chaos Space Marines just got slapped with a big price jump a few months ago. They got new model sculpts and their price went from $35 to $60 pretty much over night. Its getting crazy.
Yes, 40k's prices are a joke to me. Fortunately I am not the butt though, that's the people who actually pay them.
In my opinion Wh40k has gotten alot better. Some boxes are very good value (Looking at you Primaris intercessors). While some are just terrible (Imperial Guardsmen, Primaris snipers).
@@EliWintercross I remember starting with Imperial Guards back when 20 guys were 25$.
I think the best way to get into the game right now is 1 core set, imperial specialists, and the stormtrooper upgrade, and upgrade card pack that will get you competitive in skirmish. Then you can see if you like the game or not.
Boba fett is probably my favorite single-figure kit made for the imperials
Dude, I actually bought the core set about a month ago and I'm almost done painting. Thanks for the great content man!
Man I found you only a month ago but boi you changed my life. Legion is such a fun game, and the pleasure of painting is immeasurable. Keep up the great work!

Love these what to buy-videos! Do you plan on updating the Empire and Rebel ones soon?
Legion is such a great game, and vids like these can really help out new players navigate the sheer amount of units for getting started. Thanks.
I was pretty shore that you were going to talk about Shoretroopers.
Bum bum pshhhhhh

Thanks for putting out the best content on RUclips
It's just some dude talking in front of a camera
Thanks a lot, Sir, more than 1 year gone but advises are still useful.
I asked in one of your earlier videos if you were going to update this series! I'm so glad you did! Thanks, Crabby!
If the game follows the movies then to get Stormtroopers to hit, you have to throw a six and then follow with a another six.
Awesome timing, just showed a friend how to play yesterday and he was wondering how to get into the game as an imperial player. Thanks again Crabbok!
Love videos like this. Really enjoyed the part about what units pair well together. Gives new players an idea of what to look at when first building.
Haha - I only asked about this kind of vid on your Neb B video earlier today. Looking fwd to the rebs, and like the combo section. Good work!
Looking to start. Love painting miniatures. Great vid thanks
I hope they come out with a Anakin Skywalker as a Commander or even a Operative
Same with Ashoka
@@hitthepainting or have them in the same box like Cassian Andor and K-250
Hopefully they get all the key Jedi for the Republic.
I'm kind of hoping for a generic jedi pack too
I come from the future... wish granted.
glad I found this channel, finally some cool Legion content, best wishes
I just got into Legion and am playing Empire, so this video is awsome for me, thanks Crabbok!

@@Crabbok absolutely! This is just to answer that imminent "what about the errata" question. Still good, just healthier now.
Thanks for posting! I just got a core set, been thinking about this
Thanks for the video. Your one you did last year was how I got started.
I've been tempted to dip my toe into Legion. This is helpful. I'm looking forward to seeing you do a video like this for the other factions!
Second.
Just sent this to my little brother since he's planning on running Imperials! Excited to see the Rebels video when it comes out
I want to get into Legion so bad, it looks like a ton if fun to play, and I would play Imperial. Its just so expensive though, and I don't know if the value is enough for the cost.
It is, join the empire, dew it.
It is a really good game. You don’t have to buy that much just to be able to play. Ofc, it gets expensive if you want everything for a faction... 😅
I just bought in this week! Going Republic and my whole bill was less than $200. I split a core set with a buddy and picked up the cards, phase 1 upgrade, rex, and extra dice. It is fairly cheap in comparison to other wargames. The core box is like $73 CAD on amazon as well.
Hello Crabbok I’m new to legion and been watching your cud’s and they are brilliant thanks for being helpful, keep up the amazing work 👍🏻
The question isnt what to buy
Its this:
What do you do with a drunken sailor?
what do you do with a drunken sailor?
What do you do with a drunken sailor?
, early in the morning?
Put him in the longboat til’ he’s sober!

Nice, this will help me as well, that started Legion kinda recently
Can’t argue with your list here!
Are you planning on making an updated video?for the beginning of 2021?
Not any time soon, since so few new Imperial units have come out lately - but we have more coming out this summer which will likely have an impact.

In the upgrade Cards expansion there are some cards for the republic?
The upgrade cards in that pack are all neutral. Any army can use them
Awesome video crabbok!!
This definitely helps me shore (pun intended) up what I want to buy next.
Appreciate you input. Thanks.
Can you please explain which units are soft plastic and if in your opinion those models should be avoided? Will all units be eventually hard plastic?

Thinking about getting into legion as an empire player! I wish they had an at-at and/or at-at drivers, that would be awesome
I think it is too big for the other miniatures
How do we stand in 2021?
+1
NIce! I was expecting an update in the "what to buy first series"
!
They should make an essentials pack with dice, range rulers, movement tools, etc
Erich Ludwig I think they call it the core set. At the end of the day, this company wants to make money
Sir you just posted the video I was needing you to post lol
Was thinking of buy the clone core set and kinda just mixing the 2. Not playing competitive atm just for fun. Also wanna get some free for all and 2v2 games going
Does this still apply if you are only going to play Skirmish?
Should I use tenacity or endurance on operative Vader?
I would pick tenacity just for the offensive, but endurance is good for taking full advantage of spur. So it’s up to your gamestyle
can you do a republic 1 of these?
Nice, thanks for the video! 🤸♀️ 😀
Hey! Is a play mat necessary? just bought the core set, and wondering how much it matters. Great work, subbed

hey, id love an update
Time to go buy two core sets
2:45 seconds in "on a budget" already at 200 US dollars
I mean... for a tabletop minis game that's still decent
This is cool. To starting out.
