Love this FF7 Nostalgia-cast! FF7 was one of those games that redefined what is possible in a video game. Being able to have such agency in a large fleshed-out world with deep characters, a storyline that spans 60hrs, along with visuals that were extremely cinematic was something we had not seen before. The battle system required intelligence and I think players began to want more depth from gameplay (going forward) as a result. It also speaks to people on a deeper level, its a game that deals with loss in a genuine way, mental health issues, overcoming self-blame and self-doubt, and the importance of friendship. I was one of the guys on GameFAQs and NeoGAF always clamoring for a remake because of the strength of these elements and the impact that they had on me. Can't wait to feel it all over again when rebirth comes out
I started playing FF in the late 80’s on NES. Im not sure how my friends and I found out about the numbering conventions, but we definitely knew before 7 came out.
Our friend had that FFVII VHS too and yeah, I remember it getting us so hyped. We didn't even have a Playstation but I recall seeing that same friend play the game and FFVII was just so groundbreaking to us in so many ways - the cutscenes, the prerendered backgrounds, the setting, the music, the swear words, even just the fact that the main character had this unreasonably huge sword; it was freaking monumental.
I found Game Trailers by searching through FF7 playthroughs on RUclips until I found a group that I thought respected the artistic wonder of my favorite game, FF7. Love & Respect!!!
I had never played a Final Fantasy game before and was in a game store with a friend to pick up my copy of Starcraft Broodwar. My friend picked up Final Fantasy 7 from the shelf and just said to me that this is a really good game, you should play it. I just picked it up then and there. The rest is history.
I have such nostalgia for FF7, to the point the theme music is so powerful it hits me with so many emotions at once. I feel like laughing and crying at the same time. It's more than just a game it's a memory of such a better time in my life.
It does seem weird at first to have a sponsored podcast on the passion for FF7 by Square. But this game had such an impact and the love for it is so real!
Feels weird not seeing Max there with them. Also, this and RE2 back in the day were the two behemoths when it came to videogame hype. The only thing at that level I could remember was Mario 3 (arguably the most hyped game in history. It was on another level).
Love this. It would be cool for Square Enix to come out with a book that one one page has the original character/monster art and then the page next to it would be the remake's art. The in-game graphics of each version.
I wish i remembered how i got into ff7. Its like the how is erased from my memory, but i rememeber each moment playing it, and swapping memory cards with friends at school when i was stuck at safer sephy and emerald weapon.
Oh boy! FF7 was the defining videogame of my youth and I'm SO frikkin' stoked, dude! I legit had tears just sitting at the title screen of Remake. I've gotta wait for the PC release, so I wanna send this into the void before I go media blackout on Rebirth. L&R y'all
Goodness sake, I was already beyond hyped but this video has made me literally giggle out of sheer excitement. I won't be able to play Rebirth until a couple days later but my gosh, am I thrilled
i was actually born on the year ff7 came out my first final fantasy was ff10 back when i had a ps2 back we had rental movie clubs etc the person there had the old ff7 still in its plastic and i was like "can i buy that from you or something ?" and they just gave it to me that first playthrough was magical
I'm the same with Isla when it comes to remembering the rest of the OG game events. Midgar is such a highlight for me along with bits of Gold Saucer. But I don't remember much of the other places and events.
EZA's just as good without Jones, Ben and Bosman, It doesn't seem fair on the rest when they've contributed to shows such as Huber Hype, Mysterious Monsters, anything Don brings out and Easy Update, I don't get why some fans can't accept that people have to move on and appreciate what they support @@stonehorn4641
No worries about it but just wanted to clarify that we do know where this game is ending. They said it in the state of play. I won't say where since I think it was a little wild of them to just say it but we do know
I first got into Final Fantasy 7 because my first Final Fantasy was 3 (6) and I was curious about the other numbered ones. My Mom got us a Playstation and the one game she brought with it was Tobal No 1 and it came with a demo of Final Fantasy 7 and played that demo for a year before I was able to buy it on my own as a child. The number changed confused me cuz I was like where is 4, 5 and 6? lol
Replaying the game in anticipation and so many things are well done. Only a few gripes and it has to do with traversing certain areas. Exited to have a chocobo and the buggy!
CORRECTION: Ok, I know this isn't the podcast but Isla might need some corrections for her "Oops, All Corrections" episode(:P), also I just think this is interesting. 19:40 While you all were talking about the rumors of a remake, and how the PS3 Tech Demo Blood mentioned reignited the fires, I thought of this story from Tim Rodgers FF7R review. While working for SONY, he attends a launch day event for FFXII on the PS2. At the event, the company president made a speech and gave a copy of the game to the first customer, who was then given an opportunity to say something on the mic. According to Mr. Rogers he said only: "Please remake FF7 for the PS3, thank you." Those flames never went out.
Im with Damiani...i got into FF series with FF10 ...i had a PS1 but FF series i always seem to just miss for reason but i did get into that OTHER great rpg legend of dragoon 😊
I was a Squaresoft fan before played FF7, I liked to read video game magazines (back then the internet was not as popular) to track all the latest game news. So FF7 grabbed my attention the first time it appeared on the magazine. When everyone is still at era of pixel, this 3D battle image really impact me at the time. I never know 3D could do things like that. Then I forgot where I saw the video AD where it shows a few moves of battle sequence of Cloud doing a normal attack and then the cross blade ult. I was like what the f......how can someone be so cool. The Chinese word that Cloud writes every time in performing cross blade ult. 兇 (fierce) was very edgy and attractive to us kids back then. It felt like you literally ink an edgy word on enemy's face, it was so bad ass. And the final ult move - Omnislash , though I still don't know what it means in english. But in its Chinese translation - 超究武神霸斬 if direct translate word by word should be - super ultimate martial art god's oppressing strike. I mean who comes up with this name? I've got to see what this ultimate looks like. However I didn't own a PS at that time, and I only get to tried the game for the first time a few years later borrowing the console from a friend. Though 3D was not that special after a few years, FF7's graphic quality was still top tier at its time. And I finally get to see that Omnislash looked like - it didn't disappoint me One of the coolest ultimate of all time. And then we have TIFA joined the team, man... oh man. I am really glad that in Remake they made Aerieth so pretty that I really get to know her this time. Back then, due to the technical limitation and her original character design, she didn't have a noticible feature as TIFA, and was departed from the team early in the game. So I never really have much of understanding of Aerith as a character in game. So when she was compared to another female lead TIFA...there's no need to describe TIFA Come to think about it, it wasn't a fair match. So I am really glad that SE give a full development of Aerith this time so player who didn't play crisis core, could have a good understanding too. Very excited for rebirth hope it don't let me down (to be honest remake part 1 is a little let down... I thought they gonna make Midgar like in Yakuza that you can fully explore the city....)
My first experience was ff7 was getting the PC release when it came out.. And it crashed during the big cinematic video halfway through the game every time. Gave up and didn't actually get around to finishing the game for probably a decade
FF7 was definitely generation defining on the PS1. FF8 and FF9 were also amazing but the first in the 3D trilogy had that special magic. However 1 year later we got another generation defining, titan of a game on the N64 in the form of Zelda OOT. Would be awesome if the crew could do a similar video for that game too.
I hate the unnecessary sections like the first motorcycle sexton, than introducing new enemy, , removing the part where cloud goes down into avalanche secret hideout, adding new themes to some areas were hit or miss, boss theme shouldev had option to keep original theme. It made ff7 og memorable because of the classic old themes too. Some moments were epic and well done, nostalgic. Rebirth looks much better and hopefully the don’t add too much unnecessary sections and characters
...to little to late. Their first mistake was attempting to westernize the game to the point to meet those insane guide-lines laid out by Sony, then all the outsourcing conflicts.
Premium video for a cast that does not know shit about this project (Isla&Blood). We KNOW where the game ends, we KNOW there's Cosmo Canyon, we KNOW there is no snowboarding, we KNOW all the mini-games are in and even more (red soccer?), we know that we get Yuffie in lower Yuno, that's it. I could name 5 and ever 10 more but nah. Big up Damiani for loving The Airbuster, this is truly one of the greatest tracks ever made.
I'm pretty sure at least a few of the things on your list weren't revealed until the most recent State of Play, and this was recorded before that aired. -Bloodworth

Big ups for Damiani and the rest of the crew, such an enjoyable discussion, I cant wait for more!
Btw that's so incredible that you're being sponsored by such a prestigious company in the industry. EZA has legs baby!
EZA is close with SE, more than others company. Damiani's rating on FF14 is shown on the accolades trailer. SE basically knows them since GT Live.
i love FF7, but i'd not use "prestigious company" to describe SE.
@@diobrando6270 No company in the world is prestigious. But in terms of portfolio, they're "Prestigious"
