Yamaha VMAX Has A BIG ISSUE !! (Coolant System Failure) Can We Fix This?

- On the chopping block, we have 1997 Yamaha VMAX 500 snowmobile I purchased for $325 after being abandoned for years. There is definitely an issue in the coolant system somewhere. I am guessing head gasket! What do you think?

have 3 yamaha vmax 700 triples. insanely reliable. that limp mode is tors sensor. probably not enough slack in throttle cable. worst case you can bypass. on top of the carbs is the idle set screw. there are 2 wires coming from that area ehich is the tors sensor. follow those wires and unplug them and then plug them into eachother instead

that rev limiter sound is actualy a thing called tors very common issue on all the yammaha late 90s sleds
@ 9:40 there is a "dot" on the top of the ski leg, and a "dot" on the spindle. They are matching marks.

yeah i got stuck today I'm in Maine we got he same snowstorm my snowmobile is a 2009 yamaha 1000 nytro and its a 600 pound four stroke but thankfully 2 more snowmobilers came by and helped me get out
After my sled abandoned me in my field and broke on me, it's nice to watch Jeremy to cool down
Thats the TORS, Throttle Over-Ride Sensor that cuts the engine if the throttle gets stuck wide-open. You can easily adjust it or just bypass it at the carbs. Easy fix, lots of ppl have had issues with them.

Definitely change the thermostat. I was having lots of cooling issues on my old exciter and it was the thermostat being broken

Great video, so in the end what was wrong with the vmax?? Was is just that clamp on the hose to the thermostat?
I've had 3 different yamaha vmax 500s. The last one being a 1999. Had same coolant issue, but was out on trail and heated my engine white hot. Traded it in after that.

On the Cherokee windshield, the chrome goes in the rubber before you put the windshield in the windshield needs to come out. You put the chrome in the groove, then put the windshield in.

Don't know if those years are supposed to do the same thing but the tors light should blink 3 times when you first start it
That throttle skipping is the tors system on the carbs. Disconnect it and plug the wires into each other.

So Jeremy you said that's the most snow you seen out of one storm I watch that storm go right past Ohio and slam you guys I was hoping for it to hit here but it didn't and when I seen it plowed through Vermont I was like he's going to be riding them damn snowmobiles again! I know one thing for sure before I die I'm going to have to ride one of those oh, they look like a hell of a lot of fun. Many blessings to you and all your families

Wish you could have shown a longer video of you doing the coolant, I'm having a similar issue but don't have bleeder screws on the back of my sled and when I bled it, it never worked. Don't know of it could be a coolant pump issue or something else

What ever happened to Mike’s Indy 500 wedge? Loved that sled.
That issue is the switch on the carbs , easy way around it to.take the two wires and put them together

0:58 is called the TORS... The Throttle Over Ride System... Just unplug it... It thinks that your sled is having an issue so it over rides the throttle... My Vmax would always do this whenever I was going quarter throttle...

Older is better! Just bought a '95 Cat...work in progress! Got it running, put 3 mi. on it...and now the snow is rapidly melting! ....lots of summer fix up work to do!

Hey Jeremy, I have a old skidoo 94 grand touring and I got stuck pulled it out now my right front ski is pointed in. I don't see any thing broken or bent whats the best way to re align my ski? Screw in or unscrew tie rod? Thanks
Your spindle (vertical) may have spun & skipped a spline where the tie rod clamps onto it.
@B Hoss I did think that was the problem, I took off the piece that clamps on and moved it over to the next tooth now the ski is straight but my handle bars are crooked lol
So what was the end conclusion 🤔? Maybe thermostat stuck closed?
