- The Nightmare of The Nightmare Before Christmas. This video essay is a deep dive into the making of The Nightmare Before Christmas a 1993 stop-motion film beloved by millions. In this video I explore the origins of this movie, it's development, and the wrongful attribution of the director-ship to Tim Burton. This movie is a Henry Selick's movie and I argue it should not be thought of as a 'Tim Burton movie'. I would personally go so far as to agree with Henry Selick to say Tim Burton has effectively stolen the credit Selick ought to have. Anyway, 1993 was wacky. Citations Below.

The soft music in the background, the delightful intricate cometary on who truly owns a movie, gently bringing the true director of a creepy classic to the spotlight, OOOH THIS IS GOOD! And unexpected indeed! These are the times of videos I enjoy greatly, ones that are truly food for thought, leather I can metaphorically chew on for a while. Aw thanks Dragon thats all super kind of ya dude! I was really trying to do something different here and I think it worked. If what I've made has given you something to take away and think on than this has been a complete success for me. I think it was an important story to tell about Selick. Beyond that though we see more and more discussion on 'ownership and art' grow with AI art, independent versus corporate backed art, and creative commons discorse so this kinda topic is worth exploring to me!

Wow wow wow!!!! I came here originally from your "It's Okay To Leave The Kids Table" video, and I am just as flabbergasted at this one as I was on the other. It feels like such a shame having to call your work mere videos, since they are clearly so much more.
The amount of research and detail you put into this is mindblowing, I had literally no idea how big of a role Henry Selick played in this film and I am so so so shocked by this newfound knowledge, as someone who loved the 'Tim Burton' vibe I feel lied to and cheated that he got all that praise and credit without fully deserving it. This video has definitely altered my perspective on how I should really appreciate and dive deep into the making of a movie, especially classics like this

This was great! A very well thought out and interesting piece about rights and who truly owns what. I liked how the end leaves you wanting to learn and have more, encouraging the audience to listen and go out to find their own media to question/learn about. Movies and media needs more history being taught and the philosophical implications of movies and media that doesn’t go way in this digital age

I don't think there are clear cut answers to some questions I ask and I am a real fan of exploring this side of media and movies in the digital age like you say, I think its a topic that deserves to be looked into. And if this video makes anyone do that I count it as the best thing I've made. Beyond Selick, I think animation and animators also deserves more love!

I think Selick's interviews as of late where he's been more open about how it hurt to have this follow him his whole career even beyond losing recognition of nightmare is really gut wrenching to me. Theres a real sense of the man being wronged in my mind. And I think it split well into talking about the complexity of things like ownership and art. I'm frickin thrilled ya liked it.
