I have my grandmother’s Hoya that was her father’s. Not sure how old it is but I’m guessing it must be 50-60 years old, if not more. It bloomed every year while it was in her window as I remember since I was a kid. It hasn’t bloomed since my dad got it from her house when she passed and then gave it to me. It is a treasured possession. I had given it a new pot with a trellis to climb and it was upset for a while after being moved about, but now it has its own spot. Finally, last year it started to grow new shoots and leaves and hasn’t stopped, but still no blooms. Maybe one day…
Hoyas are a favourite of mine. The one growing in my garret is from a branch which is over 80 years old. It is morning twilight-scented. Thank you for sharing these gorgeous blooms with us.
Would love it if you told us how you actually care for this plant, and get it to flower. That’s what everyone came here for! Thx. Beautiful Hoya Carnosa Compacta.
I have several, living on the Gold Coast, here in Australia l am very lucky with them, when I repot them l always cut up banana skins , then place the plant on top of that, they quickly produce new growth and it also encourages flower spikes, same for orchids
Those blooms are absolutely EXQUISITE :-) So so BEAUTIFUL, the color is the most gorgeous pink, I only have a Hoya linearis in my collection so far, but I think I will be treating myself to a few more of these beauties, thanks so much for sharing their beauty Brad and sending heaps of love and happy growing from Ireland and have a FANTASTIC weekend ahead XXXXX
My H. carnosa plants are close to blooming for the first time (I started them from 2 cuttings close to 2 years ago, and there's one spur with buds close to opening, and probably about half a dozen spurs in total). All kinds of growth and excitement going on this time of year. I friggin' love springtime.
So beautiful!! I got a small cutting of this one last year and although it is still alive, it has not grown any as of yet. I notice my other hoyas are starting some new growth now that the spring is bringing increased light levels. Hope mine will look as good as yours does someday.
This brings back memories for me. My great grandmother had one and my sister and I would feast on the nectar. It was amazing. I want one now. I have to search for a good source and then go for it. Thank you for sharing!
Found and purchased one 3/20/2016! It has dark green leaves that are slightly heart shaped, not nearly as heart shaped as the ones your wife got you, but not as oval? shaped as your collection. I am not starting a collection but if I find the curly leaf one it is coming with me.
Hi Brad. Your plant is beautiful. I have had one for years now. It’s not looking so good: leaves’ turning yellow, loosing leaves and has never ever bloomed. I living in Pittsburgh, PA. I would love to send you pictures so you can maybe give me some advice on what to do for it. Thanks, Marianne
beautiful! I have one but wasn't aware that it blooms! I originally bought it because it looks "different " and I like different! I'm looking forward to the blooms!
Nice job. I love hoyas. So fun to grow. My dinner plate hoya is in bloom right now and looks just like this and also my Hoya obscura. Just put up a short video on that. Carnosa is an easy and good one to grow. Oh and those ants. I got bit by one haha.
I have a Hoya plant for few years now . I plant it in a 12" pot and it did not have any flowers,do you know why?In winter I bring it inside and bring it out in summer.
I have my hoya plant for next to 50 years now, but it never bloomed once. I don´t understand that. It stays in the livingroom all year, but maybe did not get enough light?
Sometimes Hoyas can be reluctant to bloom. In your case which environmental factor(s) do you feel were most responsible for this successful flowering? Temps. Day length. Humidity. Culture.??? Luck. :)
I have a Hoya plant that looks like yours. My mother gave it to me a few years ago. She got her plant from her mom who got it from her mom. I have it in a north bay window that gets West light in the summer but very little light in the winter. I live in a town home and have limited light. Is it OK if they get less light in the winter? Do they need supplemental light? Also have a watering question. The bay window tends to get warm so it seems to need more water. I’ve been letting it take up it’s own water by adding it to the dish under the pot. Is this OK to do? Could they get root rot? It’s basically watering itself.
I just have a quick question. My hoya plant is in active growth right now, and its growing literally everyday, but the leaves are coming out smaller and smaller, and 3 of the nodes do not have leaves on it. Am i worrying too much?
Could you show what a flower bud in the beginning looks like. I think mine is budding. I think i plucked one off when i first got it, i scratch what i though was a node where a vine would be so i thought it would make it mad to grow faster but the section stopped trying but the one behind is picking up
Hey brad one question I have a green house in my room without a light and it's not at all warm enough to grow any thing. If u could get back to me that whould mean a lot. Keep up the good work love your videos:)
Brad, your hoya is so beautiful the color is amazing!!! I do have a question, do all hoyas need to be tied upwards ? Or can I just grow mine in a pot with vines hanging down?
SocialButterfly23 I grow mine in a hanging basket. Some of the tendrils grow upward and wrap around what ever they can get a hold of, but if you keep an eye on them and pull them free a few times they will stop
aw after almost 15 years i just now know that my plants name is Hoya i onced enjoy it's beautiful flowers and neglected it ,seriously i dont know how to plant it when i was around 11 idk
4 once pot? Wow. I would think that large would need a partner pot. Was thinking my six inch Hindu rope needed bigger than a 4 inch. Now I know to leave it alone. Thank you!
Kalesia Wright Hoyas like to be root bound. My grandmother has had one in the same pot for over 15 years! She says a tighter pot can also force blooms eventually .
After two and half years my hoya starts super blooming.. so don't worry. It's already 2month going my flowers r blooming continuously. There r 13 peduncle in 1 plant now. I am super excited & so happy.

My hoya plant is in active growth right now, and its growing literally everyday, but the leaves are coming out smaller and smaller, and 3 of the nodes do not have leaves on it. Am i worrying too much?
Beautiful plant! would it be ok in a sun room without regular misting?

Mine has that too for over a year and it still seems to be doing really well...I asked the same question on here too
How do u fertilize them
Can you get the seeds from the flower and re-grow?
Needs to be pollinated. Fresh seeds best from what I've read
0:37 Not a Hoya Krinkle8 but a Hoya Compacta.
How to self pollinate them?
