I bought the Z30 primarily for photography to go along side my Z6ii I’m often setting up my Z6ii for timelapse or long exposures and it’s great to have the z30 to keep shooting while the Z6ii is working away plus the z30 is perfect for a go everywhere camera
Great video and I like your approach. I have a Z9, Z6 & Z30 and the Z30 is such a great and under appreciated little camera. I’ve used my Z30 as a second angle to my Z9 for video. And because you made that awesome Peter McKinnon joke, I’m buying your LUT/preset pack lol. They look great too. Cheers!
Hey S.T., your flat profile looks amazing! For your flat profile, what other kinds of mods the Nikon flat profile did to did you make? Presumably in the Nikon Picture Control app? Did you essentially just make it flatter by pulling everything back? Like sharpness?
I believe you nail it in terms of what that camera is all about, easy shooting, easy to carry , good shots and you forgot one more thing the price, you can get all you need for under 1500. cad, it is just a steal ...
I am a Z30 user from China, thank you for your selfless sharing, I have learnt a lot, I am worried about the video colouring for it, thank you for your videos.
Thank you for your reply. I have downloaded the preset and tested it。 Under the same parameters, the tolerance is larger than the dynamic range of the camera's built-in FL mode. I am also ready to buy the lut of your store. I am trying to solve the payment method. Or do you need to manually adjust the parameters back to normal and then use lut? Then, do you want to expose to the right, or do you want to expose normally?
@@visualsbyst Hello, excuse me, if the exposure of the video taken with your configuration file is correct, will it be possible to manually restore to normal colors in the later stage and directly apply Lut to the straight out video?
I have made them using Nikon Flat profile and some of them I made using GoPro footage. They will work on every camera, as far as I know, with a little bit of tweaking. If you’re shooting in LOG, you will have to transform the footage to Rec 709 first and then apply the LUT.
I actually quite like the review, next time if you dont mind could you show more more sample images but in different conditions, say night/day, brighter/darker days. just to gauge the IQ slightly better. But regardless really enjoyed the laid back and to the point vibe! I have a z6ii is and am torn between this and the zfc. is the z30 weather sealed? and what would be your decision between ZFC and Z30? of course your needs would be different to mine, but still interested to hear your view. Liked and Subbed! cheers
Hey, thanks. Sure, I’ll include more photos next time. I didn’t have it for long, so I didn’t have that many photos at the time. The Z30 is sealed, yes. The Z50, Z30 and Zfc all have the same image quality - I believe the sensor is the same in all three. The difference is mainly in the look, ergonomics and viewfinder/screen types. I think the Z30 is the only out of the three that doesn’t have a recording limit. Most other features are the same on all three. Do you need a viewfinder? Do you like the Zfc style with physical dials? Can you deal with no grip? Personally, I’d pick the Zfc, because I have a Fujifilm xt3 and I like the style and because it has a viewfinder.
@@visualsbyst my want for the ZFC is purely aesthetic, but no, I used to use a Lumix lx10 for street photography, it bit the dust. Since I didn’t miss a viewfinder on that I feel I would be comfortable with the Z30. And it has a similar small form factor. After this interaction with you I think I am leaning further towards z30, especially after watching your other video comparing z30 8bit vid and xt30 10 but vid. Cheers!
I agree with others who said a bit more light. I would also love to see the pics a little longer with details on what lens you were using. Enjoyed the content and subbed to see more.
I get, I get. I’m so handsome that everyone wants to see me better 😂. Jokes aside, your point is taken and I’ll try to change the lighting in my next videos. And the pics too. Thanks for watching.
Thanks a lot. They were taken with all kinds of focal lengths, including some F-mount lenses adapted. I believe lenses I used here were 14mm, 40mm and 85mm and the kit lens.
You will have to drag and drop the profile on an empty SD card and then go to profiles and add it from the SD card. 1. Download profile 2. Put it on SD 3. Insert SD into camera 4. Go to Manage Picture Control in the menu 5. Load/Save 6. Copy to camera 7. Select the profile, name it and save it
thank you for this video i was sab because i got this camera and all others yotubers say this is camera for vlog or for travelling , please you can tell us about your sitting in this camera thank you again
Thanks for watching. This camera is good for vlogging and photography. The sensor is the same as in Z50 and Zfc, the only difference is that it doesn’t have a viewfinder, but that doesn’t have to stop you from taking beautiful photos and videos.
Yes, you can use it for any Nikon camera. You don’t have to make any changes, but you could if you wanted to. It’s up to you and your personal preferences.
I want to buy luts for video on my nikon z30. I Make pottery, but have never used a preset. Do I use it after I take the video? Or after? And if after, what post production software am I going to use it in? I have final cut pro wich may not help. I do though need to start making a cinematic video every week with this new camera and don't know where to start.
You apply LUTs after you take the video. Final Cut Pro is one of post production software where you can do it. If, for some reason, it doesn’t work for you, you can also use DaVinci Resolve. There’s a free version and that version will give you everything you’d ever need. There’s also Adobe Premiere and that one costs a monthly subscription. In any of those, you would apply the LUT and then possibly make some corrections like exposure, contrast and so on. Nikon Z30 will be decent in auto white balance, but I suggest you set custom white balance for each video. It may make your post production a much easier process.
Lighting was distracting to me. Some may like it. But, personally, I would use something more universally accepted. You don't want to loose subs over something so simple. In the end, it's you choice
It isn’t universally accepted, though. I talked to my friend on Jupiter, and over there they love lighting like this. JK. Point taken. I’ll work on it. Thanks.
For some reason and I don't know why, my Z30 produces better quality video than my Fuji X-H2. I'm shooting 4:2:2 10 bit 265 long gop at 200mbs on the Fuji and the Nikon still looks better. The Nikon's AF eye tracking doesn't hunt at all and the Fuji's wanders off a bit. On paper the Fuji trounces the Nikon, real world results are different. It's probably my video skills that are lacking, but the Nikon is delivering the goods for me.
Well, I agree and my opinion on Fujifilm would be really unpopular. My problem is with the X-trans sensor. I find it terrible. They’re holding on to it, because it’s a selling point, but there are almost no benefits to the user. The sensor and how they tweaked it makes everything look flat and dull. They lowered the sensor’s clarity to make it look more like film, but it only makes everything look dull. It bothered me for 2 years and I held onto it because the camera looks and handles great. I finally sold it and bought a Zfc to replace the style. Rant over :D
As a hybrid filmmaker, I'm on the road with several systems and I wasn't happy with the X-S10 at Fuji either. I don't know if it's the X-Trans sensor or the Fuji colors in general. In any case, I can't get used to the Eterna profile or Classic Chrome. I like the colors at Nikon in neutral and flat much better.
I don’t think there’s any limit. That might be due to battery life or maybe overheating, even though I never experienced any overheating, so I’m not sure.
@@JustinPulitzerTrades Probably, depends on the climate of any country. In my case, my Z30 shut-off with an onscreen hot camera thermal warning just after 32 mins of continuous video at 4K/30fps. I live in the Philippines, BTW.
