The Z30 I just got has the latest firmware which includes Wide area AF with eye detect which helps with its autofocusing, limiting it to a range in your screen (latest firmware makes focus pretty good and easy to install from Nikon website. (In super low light, perhaps not yet perfect but better.). The batteries are a bit small so I bought 2 extra and a charger for $80. for travel However, I could use the USB C to USB C cord fitted to a power bank like Anker for Asper 15,000 mAh for super long power life (buy for about $30 USD for 2 of these power banks, as it uses it continuous power feed to it without draining the battery in camera for its 120 minute record time and Nikon's website says it works with Anker power banks which are perfect for long studio recording. Now in Dec. 2023, there are number of DX Z lens including 12-28mm power zoom, 18-140mm, 24mm f1.7, 28mm f2.8 or use the FF lenses like 50mm or third party Sigma Z 16mm F1.4 DX, and Viltrox 13mm. So many of these comments are no longer an issue with this camera. Perhaps I realize it might have been 9 months ago when this video was made. Thanks for your review!
Z30, Z50 and ZFc are basically the same camera. Same battery. The Z30 has newer software than the Z50 with better face detect AF. So if it's working harder than the Z50, it'll use more battery.
Would you prefer the Z30 for a beginner? I think the limited lenses is a blessing in disguise for me because it's pretty straightforward. The Nikon Z30 is the best Nikon camera because with a speed booster it beats even the Nikon Z9 by gathering twice more light! You lose autofocus, but you gain so much light. You can make video blogs in complete darkness, if you want! Autofocus doesn't even work at night, anyway! I use my Nikon Z30 with the Mitakon Lens Turbo (x0.72) speed booster and 2 cheap Sigma lenses. With the Sigma 24mm f/1.4, I get a 26mm f/1 lens, and with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, I get 76-216 f/2 lens! The Nikon Z30 with a speed booster is so powerful, it can even match the Sony a7S, at night!
can you pls say any overheating issue in 4k or 1080p video recording in Nikon z 30 and how is 1080p video quality as I will more do 1080p with occasional 4k. Im thinking to buy it over sony zve10. Sigma already announced the 3 APS-C Contemporary lenses; the 16, 30 and 56mm 1.4s. This is exciting because I wanted to adapt them with the Sony adapter. Hopefully Nikon releases the 12-28 DX PowerZoom this year as well.
The Z30 is a great add on camera. Not sure I would choose Nikon APS-c as a stand alone. Fuji is really the only way to go if your going to be 100% APS-c. I am shooting a Nikon Z7II for stills and the Z30 is great for vlogging that. I also run a complete Fuji kit, including an XH2, but I actually prefer the Z30 for video. It's easier, less complicated and it just works for solo video creation.

Hi iI have the Nikon z30 with the 12-18 lens as needed to be as wide as possible. It's true that the lens selection for this camera isn't great but this is not the reason i am here. Overall i am happy with the image quality and the autofocus but the image stabilisation is annoying me so i am looking for a small gimbal. I use the camera on construction sites as well as my go pro 10 for timelapse to video the progress and end product. Can you recommend a gimbal that isn't too big and too expensive? I am not keen on all the fancy features. all I need is a stable image . My content is all about short videos put together into longer clip. I mainly walking around the site and filming the progress, and sometimes filming myself talking. I would really appreciate if you could recommend something. I thought you would be the best person to ask since you are using the camera yourself.

I used the Z30 with the converter for F lens, like the Tamron 16-300. The results are ugly, to much photographic noise even in full light, autofocus not working sometimes. I still don't know if the problem is the sensor or the converter. Waiting an impossible answer, I turned back to my digital reflex
z30 is such good camera, its light, durable, good quality. one word, any camera you would take out its the good camera. to me , I am very satisfy with its performance.

It's far worse to have an exposed shutter because if you touch it you can damage it, it's not meant for protection. Sensors on the other hand, are stratch resistant and as long as you change lenses with the camera off and pointing down-ish, it won't atract dust.
you dont like eating up 3 batteries while recording 4k in the z30? why are you shooting top notch rez with a low end camera and a kit lens in the first place? 4k is put there as a marketing strategy, to stand against competitors in specs, but we can admit it's mostly useless so get down to hd which is absolutely enough and here you have one complaint less
Pentax cameras are on a different level. I own 2 but I'm about to get a nikon as I already have cameras from Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, Fuji and Canon. My EDC are the Micro 4/3 cameras one ie Weather resistant and my Pentax also Water proof. I must get a Nikon so that I can judge for myself.
The battery usage is more consuming on the Z30 because it does not have a viewfinder, instead, it has to power-up the screen all the time. Kudos from a Nikon Z FC user ñ_ñ
no issues here recording at 4K for almost 12 hs in a day. You must use good SD cards. If I use cheap CFexpress cards on my Z9, the camera will toast them.
I'm a Nikon stills shooter that has a ZV1. I'd be interested to hear some examples of why the Z30 beats the ZV-1??? ZV-1 clear advantages: better autofocus, product showcase mode, more sophisticated color profile options, higher frame rates for better slow-mo, smaller form factor etc. Granted, the ZV-1 touch screen is terrible, the buttons are tiny and fiddly, and the menus suck, but the results are hard to argue with. A 1" sensor with f/1.8 lens will produce similar bokeh to the APS-C f/3.5 lens, so is image quality really that different?

I hate my Z30 camera. The extremely low battery life is almost criminal and the AF is f**ked, you show how bad that is at 3:10. There are other issues i have with mine but these two are the worst offenders and it just makes me not want to use this camera.
I still cant get why these dumbass companies cant nail auto focus. back in the film day most top end cameras had infrared auto focus. it was fast and super fookin accurate. could literally shooti pics in total darkness and whatever you focussed on will be sharp then they suddenly decided, nah people dont something that works, lets give them a little shitty light that shines and doesnt work and here we are 25yrs later and its still a mess
This damn camera actually kept shutting off on me in less than hour when I was using the HDMI out for a virtual meeting. It would cut out again after a few mins of just turning it off then back on. Wasent even recording either! Just using the HDMI out. Wasent even hot in my room either.
I found that if I close the display the overheating and shutting off issue will stop. 1080p is also recommended since 4K really isn't needed for use as a webcam

Z30 is my first camera and this camera made a lot of money and projects.. so it defends on the shooter not the camera.

Z30 is much better option than sony zv, don't get fooled by paid reviews. In fact, unless you are going above 1 lac, z30 is the best all round choice.

There is no overheating! I do 4K only, so I can't tell you anything about 1080p!

On Blue yeti the condensators are laterally oriented. This is the right way.
I've shot weddings with the Z30 and it does an okay job. But pair it with an f1.2 prime Nikkor Z lens and it's godsend!!

That´s a slow lense. For perfect result you must use Z mount lenses

Actually, it's the EVF that takes more energy than the rear LCD. It's that way on the Z6/7/50/5/9
Not a huge difference, but EVFs consume more than the big screens.
3-4 batteries for 1h30m of 4K recording? Might be, when you start, stop during that. The Z30 shuts down at about 45m from overheating at 4k :)

no issues here recording at 4K for almost 12 hs in a day. You must use good SD cards. If I use cheap CFexpress cards on my Z9, the camera will toast them.
