    I feel bad that we indians must have kicked brits way more early and got independence like the United States. Our growth story would have propelled multifold and we would have by now become super power. Nevertheless we are growing strong as a nation.

    Beautiful photos looks like Singapore of the 50s .More than 10 million Tamils left the shores of Chennai for a better life in the 1900s.vetri vel Murugan(my parents left Tanjore/manargudi in the 40s and migrated to Singapore but thank God we still speak and write fluent Tamil, celebrate thaipusam and deepavali and visit chennai often)

    Madras is literally a memorial.still you can see many vintage Vibs in Chennai. Also the Britishers used Madras as better city and used it in right ways, so Madras remains those memories ❤

    I was in Chennai many times earlier call Madras so historic and beautiful city with Airport and Shipping and Railways and many holy Hindu shrines

    Even in 1945, it was like this. The village scenes, petrol bunk, buses and cars in small towns as well as Madras city were like this in the British Raj.

    I am in awe of british architecture , if anything I loved about the colonialism would be the buildings and roads, the culture of british keeping public places so neat and tidy is something we indians dont have .. we have spoiled everything and just ruined the beauty of madras

      This is how British conditioned our minds. We are a race whose roots are lost and we appreciate the ones who destroyed our heritage and history. Otha so sad.     In 1900 Chennai (Madras) was already a vibrant city with a prestigious university and my country's capital city: Kuala Lumpur was a tin mine with just a few shop houses and huts and could hardly be called a town.

    Under the Rule of British no Doubt the Development of the City (Imagine About Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh which was included with Madras and Kerala) was remarkable. The British Ruled India from 1647 To 1947 (300 long years) Slavery and Poverty. Only few who were Educated were lucky. But Till this day Again the same store. Divide and Rule. I wouldn't give water to you and I wouldn't allow your Goods to enter the State. Our Country is really Ruled on Cast and Creed. So Superiority and Inferiority still Exists. State Border issues. What not
    But the Buildings they Built and Drainage system marvelous.

After the independence also it our Border it is our water we will not give you Rice if is ours etc etc. Unless or until we have UCC and also stop referring old cases, it is impossible to get the states united.
