This is a quick tutorial showing one way of creating a geodesic dome in Blender. A few selection tips and "Make Track" to make an object aim at another one.
I'm not even kidding, this is one of the best tutorials I've watched. As well as being exactly what I was looking for, it was very simple. I also learned tons of new shortcuts. Great Job!
The problem is, the triangles are not the same size... im looking for a tutorial that shows how to do that with perfectly matching triangle sizes, so regular triangles.
A real one or a 3D version? You gave me the idea to do an unwrapping video of this model. Same thing would be applied to a real version anyway. But it'll mostly take a while since I'm busy with a lot of other stuff. I'd then recommend searching for how to unwrap a geodesic dome. Best of luck!
Thanks, yeah this video was kinda a hit and a miss. It's too fast and incomplete for beginners and maybe too simple for a little more advanced users. I'll take this into consideration for the future. I will do more videos and this will help me grow. Thanks again!
Select the compontents (face, vertex, edge) and then press X. You should be getting that same menu. They renamed the "Edge Collapse" in the newer versions to "Collapse Edges & Faces" but does the same thing. Hopefully this helped. If not, double check you have the latest version of Blender.
I thank you for the feedback. This video however, I wanted to do it a bit faster on purpose. There are a lot of tutorials which goes quite slow, which is good, but sometimes people just want the info as quickly as possible. I am not doing tutorials in general and if I continue I will for sure try and find a style that works for as many as possible. I do appreciate your input though!
Hello, unfortunately I don't know of a simple way to do that. However, Blender 2.92 just got the new geometry nodes which are super amazing. I'm sure there would be a way to create a geodesic dome and with a bit of setup choosing the size and shape of the dome to be elliptical.

Thank you for the kind words! This always inspires me to make more tutorials, which are quick, to the point and packed with good tips.
Same... I like the speed, too. He actually says the buttons he's pressing, and not just pushes them.
100% - This is one of the best tutorial videos ever, Blender aside. Fast, clear, straight-forward, no background music, learning made easy.
I like how on top of teaching us how to make domes, you also taught us how to make a cool little scene with a fancy light
Thank you, it was actually something I had learned myself not long before recording that video. So I just wanted to pass it along.
One of the best tutorials I found, incredible explaining and shortcut learning
Thank you very much!
I'm a total beginner and learned a lot from this! Will be using this info to create custom game pieces for a board game I'm designing. :)
Thank you. I had to slow it down to 0.25 to get what you were doing! :) 💕
I concur! Very clean and clear, a great learning experience.
That part with the extruding along normals should be on satisfying compilations
Great video!!
Great video!
Thank you this is an awesome tutorial! thank you:)
I'm glad you enjoyed it and hopefully found it helpful!
wtf i learned more than i wanted. really loved this tutorial!
I'm happy you learned more than expected! Have a great day and thank you!
thank you!!!
Really nice video!, keep it up.
Liked;)
Thank you very much! I do plan on doing more Blender tutorials. I know there's a million out there, but it's fun and I love Blender!
@@TheSoapThatCan I have similiar plan, I´m not expert on blender, but I want to be better so I trying to learn more and you help me, thanks:)

is someone of you triying to "revive" a dharma station?
Aah, if only. I miss that.
Is length are equal ?
No, they are not equal length. Some sides are but not all. I uploaded a picture of the measurements here: randompolygons.com/testing
the ctrl - to subtract from selection is just zooming out, any help ??
You have to use the minus button on the numpad, if you use the minus/plus buttons next to backspace it will zoom in/out.
hi, make track ? :( hasta ahí llegue.
Does anyone know how you take a 3d geodesic dome and flatten it to a 2d? Essentially I want to create a 2 dimensional drawing of a geodesic dome.

@@TheSoapThatCan Thank you
The technology object is not regular
Unregular technologoy objects is how you innovate. Keeping it all alive!
Please slow down...some of us are beginners. Great vid thou

I don't get them same menu at 0:25

@@TheSoapThatCan I'm literally about to cry, blender is hell for newbies 🙂
@@snowpiercerroblox6531 It used to be a hella lot worse. Update 2.8 and onward is so much easier. I hated Blender before that. Now I love it.
you ever consider slowing the hell down.. maybe youd get more subs

Portal 2 Domes.
Hiii, I need little help, how can I make eliptical dome with triangulated pattern like this?

So fucking fast man! PLus you keep pushing keys out of habit like camera zoom/move and it gets super confusing!
