In Defense of Salazar Slytherin (+Why He Left Hogwarts) - Harry Potter Explained

- Опубликовано: 21 июн 2021
- Welcome to Harry Potter theory. Today, we're discussing Salazar Slytherin, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Hogwarts. More specifically- we’re going to be discussing the FOUNDING of Hogwarts, as well as what led to Salazar Slytherin, the founder of Slytherin house, vacating the school.
Hogwarts was founded when four 10th century witches and wizards got together, and decided that they had, in the sorting hat’s own words: ‘the selfsame yearning, to make the world’s best magic school’. Thus, Hogwarts was born. The school itself was built hidden off somewhere in the Scottish highlands (the exact location is never actually revealed)- and this was because the tenth century was a time of hardship for witches and wizards. During this time, every day, witches and wizards were being persecuted by muggles-who were intensely hostile when it came to witnessing sources of magic. In order to further protect the staff, students, and school itself- additional precautions were made in the form of charms - helping to further conceal the school from muggle trespassers.
After the founders (who were close friends I should add) founded the school, they decided that they would each create and head their own ‘house’ which would represent a personality trait and skill that they wanted to nurture. And it just so happened that despite being close friends, each founder happened to value very different things-which created quite an interesting and diverse array of students at the school.
“Gryffindor students embodied bravery and chivalry; Ravenclaw, intelligence and wit; Hufflepuff, loyalty and fair play; and Slytherin, the values of being sly and cunning.”
For years, the Hogwarts founders served as head of their respective houses, and sorted students in to their houses manually. However, it eventually occurred to them that they wouldn’t be around forever- and so the sorting hat was born. The creation of the sorting hat certainly made the lives of the founders much easier, but it also couldn’t have come at a better time. For you see- Gryffindor And Salazar began to have a falling out. We know that after their falling out, Salazar ends up leaving the school- but, what happened exactly?

What if Salazar was just a good guy that feared muggles Bc of the witch hunts so he wanted nothing to do with them
He could have also been paranoid over the fact that muggle-borns may show more loyalty to their fellow muggles and might have helped witch hunters rat out fellow students for them to hunt down, or Merlin forbid even launch an all out assault on Hogwarts itself. Given how the descendants of the Scourers became very anti-magic, with the expressed desire to rid the world of wizards and witches, perhaps Slytherin's views weren't out of the ordinary back then.
Good point
The one thing bothers me in HP saga is in all that saga all wizards treat muggles with condescendes or worse, even harry.
And still with that stupidity of secrecy.
Instead of the cursed child time travel nonsense it would be fun to watch delphini get killed by a muggle also related to her dad but who developed anti magic materials and methods
yes it would be fun if Slytherin was painted deeper there... his motivation being fear and in fact not really irrational fear...
Its a shame we do not have an polar opposite of Slytherin in the books... it would help the narrative...
we have Slytherin as the "complete immigration moratorium" guy who declares we're in war with muggles therefore no muggle immigration.
then we have the view of the rest of the founders - immigration of muggleborn yes but with necessary complete assimilation into wizarding world.
and we are missing Slytherins opposite - someone who would argue for bringing also muggle values and culture into the wizarding world. (which i think in view of most of us would destroy the wizarding world in time...)
...so if the options were aligned like this most of readers would choose the Gryffindor middle way automatically again - but would also know now that is it the middle way.
@@sanhcman666 and care to explain since when Harry disliked no-maj?
There's more to Salazar than we are aware of. Godric was his best friend for decades and they were fine. No matter how horrible it was to breed a basilisk inside the castle, he kind of redeemed himself... Symbolically, Salazar destroyed most of the Horcruxes, as if he was disgusted by Tom's actions. The diary and Hufflepuff's cup were destroyed with basilisk's fang (the same basilisk Salazar created)... It venom bonded with Godric's sword and the sword was used to destroy the Gaunt ring, Salazar's locket and Nagini... The diadem was destroyed in a Fiendfire (that took the form of a serpent) and Voldemort himself (Salazar's rightful heir) destroyed the part of his soul that resided inside Harry.
Slytherins values - ambition, cunning, leadership, and resourcefulness
And blood purity
You're right
@@slayerofdemons9273 which is the best trait to have.
And less known qualities- cleverness and fraternity
As a Slytherin, I agree with you. I don't think Salazar is evil, the situation is just more complicated than in the modern world. Maybe he also faced trauma because of muggles. Maybe the muggles even tried to attack Hogwarts at some point when Godric wanted to pick up muggleborn students. Salazar may see muggles as more of a threat than a friend after these incidents , even though some of them may be kind. Also, he put the Basilisk in the Chamber but never really used it and instead ordered his heir to release it when needed. This means Basilisk might actually be a secret weapon to protect Hogwarts just in case the muggleborns started to be aggressive. He left Hogwarts but didn't want to leave it unprotected. If you see it this way, Salazar seems to think far, even when he left the school, he still cared for it. The Basilisk killed with just one look of its eyes, which is really a painless death. If he's truly evil, wouldn't he choose a more painful death for the muggleborns? The Basilisk also only attacked with its poisonous fangs when ordered but mainly they killed with just a single stare. I think the purpose of the Basilisk was changed as times goes on. Instead of using the Basilisk as a protecter, his Descendents used the Basilisk to kill muggleborns for fun. We never get to read Salazar's original instructions about the Basilisk so we can't really say he put it in the Chamber for evil.
@@denizkenger52 I can understand how you see that way but I think differently. As much as there are many evidence to prove he's evil, there are also evidence that proves he might be not. So, this is quite a debatable topic
I think Slytherin lost someone close to him, potentially his parents or significant other, which is why he is strongly opposed to muggle students. Imagine what a parent installed into their children’s minds about wizards and witches during that time.
I didn't realize why Slytherin felt the way he did. Now it makes perfect sense that he was so anti-muggle.
This makes me wonder if wizards in America would see Slytherin in a better light than those in the UK? Considering how after the Salem Trials and other run-ins with No-Majs and Scourers throughout the history of the United States, with the New Salem Philanthropic Society actively trying to expose the wizarding world during Newt's time, I always thought someone with Slytherin's outlook would have been welcomed with open arms in America.
Can you explain me more about the Salem Trials please? I have been hearing this, in HP, in Marvel, etc...
@@hritviknijhawan1737 The Salem Trials are based on real history. They took place in American in the late 17th century where people living in Salem were accused of witchcraft and executed. In the Harry Potter verse they became a reason for the American wizarding community to distrust muggles more than those living in Britain.
@@hritviknijhawan1737 Apparently The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft. In marvel, it was Wandavison when Agatha was caught practicing dark magic and then had a trial. In Harry Potter since there have been a lot of run ins with No Majs nand since most Slytherins discriminate against muggles and muggleborns, they would be welcome because muggles had Witch Hunts, Trials, etc.
@@funnythehaha oh ok now I get it, thanks a lot!
@@barbiquearea thank you so much :)
I can imagine that Salazar lost someone he cared about during the witch hunts. Maybe a family member died or something when he was young, making him hate muggles.
In a way you can't blame him, after all at the time there were wars going on between wizards and muggles, the muggles would literally hunt them and try to burn them alive. Salazar wanted nothing to do with them at that point, so when he makes a school and the three other makers want to bring in the children of muggles, he felt betrayed, as if they didn't remember what was done to there kin. He didn't trust them, i think he had a feeling that they could try to kill his kind again so he had the basalisk just in case.
@Issa I would think he would fear that they would use the knowledge the headmasters taught them against them. Imagine teaching someone everything you know, to the point that they surpass you in every way. Only for them to turn around and undo everything you and your friends did to protect yourselves. He probably never thought about their safety, because in his mind, they were Muggle first. And being Muggle-born, they are more equipped at hiding amongst Muggles.
That doesn't justify leaving the Basilisk in the school to kill kids just for being muggle-born. He was basically a wizard Nazi.
@@geekyradical4985 right?! Muggle-borns were just as much in danger of being persecuted for being magical as much as any other witch or wizard. And who was he to decide who was "worthy" of magical learning?
@@geekyradical4985 and the muggles of that time were all Nazis then because they killed the magical folk in the first place. I see Slytherin's opinions just as reaction to an action.
@@raijyn2452 if muggles found out their kid is magical I think many would've done what they can to protect them. Muggle-borns also have a more developed bond to other Muggles. Reason enough to not trust them completely for pure-bloods at that time.
This is the first time I actually understood Salazar Slytherin's ideologies on muggles. Obviously, I do not think he was right, but I do see his point of view more clearly. Keep up the great work! :)
I think Salazar‘s “evil”is overstated
Muggles back then would kill and burn wizards at the stake! Given the self-preservation trait of slytherin, it makes sense he would be hostile of muggle born wizards in the school.
To say he actively discriminated against muggles in his house isn’t founded, before he left he at least taught Half blood wizards and even had some in his house like Merlin
Seems like the chamber was more for protection in case of muggle invasion.
As the centuries passed, I believe Salazar Slytherin's position on blood purity becomes less and less defensible. For, as Hagrid points out, more than half of wizards and witches are half breed or half blood, anyway.
There were only 28 "pure blood" families left by Harry's time anyway.
@@thestratman9 Even at that time it wasn’t true anymore. Most of the Sacred 28 had intermarried with Muggles or Half-Bloods.
Now I know why Slytherin had such a strong dislike of Muggles, but I still think that hiding the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets was an extreme action.
I think that was just an excuse.Similar to how a certain austrian with a mustach used a similar reasoning, to discriminate against a minority.Which, his reasoning was obviously rubbish. And that´s the case with Salazar too.Besides, without this stupid decision Voldemort wouldnßt exist.
Although I have nothing against Slytherins.Quite the opposite, I want to stop the cliches against them, they are good people.
@@iammrbadguy9706 What happened with Slytherin would be akin to someone seeing his friends and family murdered by the germans during WW2 and then growing to distrust and be prejudiced against them after the war was over. His distrust would be justified although his actions would not be. Slytherin does not need to be a saint, but after two completely diabolical villains with no redeeming qualities, it would be good to have one who was a good person, but whose life's tragedies sent him down a dark path.

Salazar left the school and basically... disappeared. I'd say he's quite a passive aggressive pacifist who prefers his descendants to do his dirty work.
As expected of a cunning man.
A pacifist wouldn't place a time-bomb like the Chamber of Secrets, though.
Pretty much disappeared like
Madara Uchiha
He put the snake thing to sleep plus no indication that that was his intention to harm students. It was a RUMOR. Plus anyone can have evil descendants.
Honestly I think Salazar's reasons for hating muggle was just human. you grow up in a world where you and many others have magic in your blood and your hunted down for it because your different, and you see all the deaths of wizards and witches at the hands of muggles. It makes to much sense that a lot of people in the wizarding world would hate muggle for what they did and would want to fight back in a raging war. yes committing genocide is completely wrong but its understandable where the hate comes from.
My theory is that Salazar left that basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets to protect the school against a muggle attack. I also think that Helga, Godric, and Rowena ended up being wrong, the Statute of Secrecy went up in the 18th century anyway, proving Salazar correct. Moreover, Harry has first-hand modern experience that things haven't changed. Muggles overall, will not accept what they can't understand.
If you're referring to the Dursley's, I don't think one family is enough to judge everyone.
@@drugmate9710 Not just the Dursleys, he's had to live with Muggles for a whole decade in primary school before Hogwarts, and it seems Harry doesn't trust them after they believed the lies the Dursleys told them.
Well, it was still wrong to say, that muggelborns shouldn't learn magic or are less worthy.
@@nick0197 These blood distinctions wouldn’t have existed until the statute of secrecy. You know where people were creating a new hierarchy since they separated from the muggles entirely. It seems to me that people used his argument as propaganda by later blood purists justifying their “superiority” over muggleborns. Salazar lived several hundreds of years before the Statute existed, but his argument was sound of removing themselves from the muggles…the witch burnings kind of gave it away.
I really like the idea that the Bazilisk is there as a defensive measure...cause the Gaunt were in the school for a long time and none of the released it, it was only Voldemort who did...
Proud Slytherin🐍💚🐍💚
No you arent
Kinda like Disneys maleficent I would love to see a title "Salazar" just to get rid of the black and white, and show that good and evil aren't as easily defined as we'd like to think 😜
I understand hating muggles but not letting muggleborns to study in hogwarts is too much. They are still Wizards after all. Magic is on their blood. If muggles hate wizards they will hunt them too. That's why they need protection and learn how to use well their magical Powers.
If a muggleborn is caught, the muggles will kill him, but it'll stop there. If muggleborn is accepted to Hogwarts and then caught by the muggles, he could endanger everyone there. So, in Slytherin's mind, it would be a sacrifice of few for the safety of many. Messed up and cruel, but understandable.
I kinda wonder if he didn't actually hate Muggleborns but he just wanted to be more careful about which students were admitted to Hogwarts in general because of the tension between wizards and Muggles at the time. He just didn't want to through the doors wide open for everyone like the other founders did and overtime people warped his ideas into pure blood supremacy
Great work 👌🏿
Great vid, I have sympathy with Salazar on this one he may have had a family member who was killed by a muggle .
In defense of Godric, as Grindelwald said "magic blooms only in rare souls.", which means it is not wizard who can decide who is acceptable as a wizard. There will probably be a god who is deciding which person can possess the MAGICAL ABILITIES.
@@denizkenger52 Maybe Grindelwald is wrong, but think about this... how Hermione Granger and other muggle-born were able to do magic who don't have magic bloodline? I think, once magic attached to souls, it mix with blood, then it can be transferred to next generation, sometimes it doesn't (for example squibs).
@@denizkenger52 OK
Video idea: What happened if voldemort would have been captured and thrown at the vale before horkruxes would been destroyed?
Would he die?
Would he be still alive?
My speculation: As long as there were horcruxes out there, then he'd still technically be alive. His body would go through the veil, complete with that one piece of soul. Presumably there's a way to get a piece of soul out of an object without destroying it, so all it need would be a wizard who knew how. That's providing there was a death eater who knew about Voldy's horcruxes and where to find them. Which is doubtful considering no one tried to find them. So, maybe despite having soul pieces out there, they'd just be waiting trapped in their object shells
Salazar Slytherin is not evil. He is complex but will never degrade himself to Grindelwald and Voldemort.
1. He founded Hogwarts to protect wizards from Muggle persecution.
2. He created the basilisk likely as a contingency if Muggle-borns becomes a threat (he never used it). An example would be Salazar's possible fear of Muggle-borns as spies.
3. He personally taught Merlin who is considered one of the greatest and wisest wizards.
4. He wanted students to learn Dark Magic so they can protect themselves from threats if it comes to it (we cannot compare the Medieval Ages to the Modern Day).
Fault of the Muggles- they burnt the witches and wizards.

It wasn't just because they were different from Muggles. It was most likely there were magicals who abused and mistreated those without magic. Magicals weren't completely innocent and had their fair share of evil people and unfortunately magicals became known for evil deeds then good ones.
Imagine one of the founders going to some Muggle's house to tell them about Hogwarts and the whole village comes shouting burn thy witch.

I think Salazar lost a family member, very close to him, to muggles...Or maybe his story is the same as Tom's, he was abandoned by his father, mother died in birth, and added with all that went on at the time, it drove him to want to exterminate them in the way they did to him and those he cared about.
I say all of this as a Slytherin, which in and of itself gives me an inclination towards his mindset and philosophies, and it is all just guess work...But he couldn't have been /evil to have been friends with Gryffindor.

Just throwing my 2¢ in:
It sounds like as the years went on in Hogwarts the four founders’ disagreements about the priorities of the school came up often. And who would be its headmaster? The one who prized chivalry and bravery? The one who prized wit and knowledge? The one who was obsessed with purity in Magic and blood? Or the one that cared most for the students, and who was dearly loved in return?
It sounds like a power struggle. I doubt Ravenclaw cared past the education just as Hufflepuff cared past the safety and care of her students, leaving Slytherin and Gryffindor to constantly bicker about who should be allowed to learn magic and come under *Their* teaching and protection,
I hope JK Rowling releases an official story or a fan film is made:)
Sound logic for sure. Competing has unnecessarily broken many a relationship, friendship, rock band, I could go on and on, but yes.

Would it have made more sense to integrate Slytherin into the other Houses to ensure that the negative aspects would be lessened or removed?
Slytherin was just afraid of muggles and we all know what fear does to man😬
That fear is based out of the fact wizards and witches were being hunted and killed by muggles. Your comment works just as well if you replace slytherin with muggles.
Its a theory yes, but try and have nuance if you're gonna interject your own thoughts into the theory itself :)
@@denizkenger52 my guy i believe you interpreted their reply wrong they mean that if you swpped your comment around and said "Muggles were just afraid of Slytherin and we all know what fear does to a man" in which case they actually have a very valid intelligent point just because you're looking at it from one perspective doesn't mean that it's exactly the same perspective from the otherside essentially :)
Please make video on why was snape's expelliarmus yellow while duelling lockhart
True, his killing curse was also blue instead of green. Probably comes down to intention and/or emotion. While expelliarmus doesn't require much or any intent, I bet Professor Snape wanted to embarrass that fraud Lockhart, maybe the intention to do so changed the colour.

Salazar wasn't really evil, was he? he just got tired, angry, anxious and then, frankly, just took the easy way out. that absolute discrimination was wrong but rest of it wasn't.
for him it wasn't a matter of pride and prejudice like it was for more modern pure-bloods. for him it was a matter of priority in protecting and teaching one's family, friends and preserving his culture and world over teaching certain students that for all he knew, could backstab rest of them. and honestly, i think we all would have done same.
Yes. He bred a murderous snake and wanted to use it to kill all he deemed unworthy
@@espnthefuture I believe the basilisk was created for the sole purpose of defending Hogwarts should a war break out between the muggles and wizards and if an assault on Hogwarts occurred. I'm not saying he did the right thing, he definitely took the easy way out by saying 'screw it, I'm out and by the way, I told you so (probably)', but you have to understand the context of the times he was born in and lived under where muggles literally hunted magical folks and burned them to death.

What do you think?
I don't blame slytherin for wanting only pure bloods at Hogwarts.
Humanity has a history of killing wizards and witches in a time where a simple accusation was enough reason to kill them.
Now, Salazar went too far, but had he simply advocated for separation between muggles and wizards, the founders would have likely understood why. But since he created the chamber of secrets, he wanted genocide.
Read the Harry Potter's story of Guendalina. And see how wizards have fun in that time

The "opression" of wizards by muggles in the middle ages never made much sense to me. With all we see in the series that is possible with magic, all it takes for wizards is some ingenuity and determination and they could completely subdue muggles in any way they wanted.
Wizard vs muggle combat? With medieval technology? All a wizard needs is some kind of a shield charm against arrows and he/she can single-handedly take down an entire army of muggles. Shoot any kind of combat spells at them and it will work. Then if there are too many of them and there's a risk of being overwhelmed in melee range, apparate some distance back. Rinse and repeat. Probably won't take long before muggles start to retreat.
The only way muggles can kill a skilled wizard is an ambush. But how feasible is it to pull off successful ambushes all the time? I'm sure wizards can find a way to reliably defend against that too if they are vigilant.
Why not imperius the muggle king and other leaders into condemning the violence against wizards, making it a heavily punishable crime, spreading the positive propaganda against wizards, passing right laws etc? Why not modify memories of muggles in a way that will make them respect wizards? The options to solve the problem are countless.
An open war against muggles would be a piece of cake to win for the wizards. Stay in concealment, apparate where needed, make ambushes. Imperius muggle leaders into making bad decisions. Burn their grain supply, poison their water sources. Apparate, shoot fire spells, burn entire villages and cities down, disapparate into concealment. It won't take long before muggles beg for peace under any conditions. The memories of what wizards are capable of will prevent any kind of perscecutions against wizards for centuries. It would become one of the most important aspects of muggle culture to avoid angering the wizarding community.
But if wizards were actually as smart and resourceful as real life humans, the entire Harry Potter series wouldn't make sense. Life with the magic described in the books would be trivial if it was actually used to solve real life problems.
The thing is Witches and Wizards did not have much spell books or Teachers to learn from then the same way That muggles did not have their modern technology not to mention that there wasn't nearly as much spells as there is now. Thats why the founders created the school. To teach Young witches and wizards how to defend themselves.
Muggles also outnumbered wizards even then. There were only 2 or 3 wizards in a commiunity of 13000 etc.
Wizards will never be able to defeat Muggles even now. Even though they have the offensive spells needed to fight. They are still outnumbered
@@morning7136 completely agree, numbers will always be an advantage... It's even worse with modern day weapons
@@morning7136 - it doesn't matter that muggles outnumber wizards. Not with the medieval technology. I explained in my previous post how a single wizard can take down an entire muggle army in a battle and an entire muggle kingdom in a war. No matter how many muggles are there, they are unable to kill a single wizard who knows his stuff, but the wizard can if not kill, then at least scare off thousands of muggles at once.
Only by around 1950-2000 muggles reached a technology level that would pose any threat to wizards.
Also Hogwarts was established around 10th century, so wizards would have a proper education well before the middle ages ended. Also necessity is the mother of invention- if wizards were persecuted by muggles, they would start developing appropriate spells to defend themselves very fast. There's nothing a wizard/witch can figure out in XXI century he/she could not figure out in XI century. Herpo the Foul made a horcrux and a basilisk in antiquity already. Olivanders have been making their wands since antiquity too. The magic was certainly advanced enough by middle ages to completely obliterate muggles in a conflict, no matter how big numerical advantage would the muggles have.
To me, Anakin's (EU) and Obi-Wan's (EU) duel in Revenge of the Sith (EU) is the greatest encounter of former best friends fighting against each other and each believing that one betrayed the other of all time ever in fictional media.

*Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Get in line, and hold our Blue Milk. We were here first, and have been at it since Nineteen Seventy-Seven."*
He started wanting the muggle born out of the school, he ended wanting them dead
I mean it's one way of getting them out of the school, hard for them to wanna go if there's a giant muggleborn hunting basilisk in the school lol
Most Kingdoms had a Wizard that had the ear of the King.
So the Witch Hunt thing maybe more of corruption needing a scapegoat.
Most old widows were viewed as witches but were rarely thrown in a lake to see if she floats.
Merlin was respected by everyone including his enemies.
This kinda sounds like the Diamond Authority in SU. Pink left them to be her true self and Salazar left because his values meant "nothing" to the others.
Hufflepuff 💛. Can't wait to see you get sorted!
💚Slytherin💚
Honestly, Badgers symbolise Hufflepuff house so well. Yeah, they look silly and weak, but these guys can litterally kill _people_ if you piss them off. They're very defensive. Sweet like honey, but definitely not weak.
Slytherin~ 💚
Plez do some videos on the James potter series! Better head cannon than cursed child
Do you think that if muggles always had been nice towards the magical world Salaza Slythrin would have accepted muggles?
I always thought it was a stupid idea to not tell muggleborns about the magical world and hogwarts until their eleventh birthday or the summer before their first year. Wouldn't it have been a better idea to introduce them as early as possible? I get the feeling that knowing about the secret world earlier helped Lily Evans greatly (just an example).
Proud Ravenclaw over here
My fanon is that Slytherin was born in a far away land where wizards ruled over muggles, in his lifetime the muggles aided by muggle born wizards revolted and toppeld the old order, SLytherin was one of the few who escaped. He travelled to the end of the world, Scotland along the wya meeting Godric Gryffindor and striking up a friendship with him. They met Hufflepuff and RTavenclaw and tey decided to start a school together Skytherin didn't want to teach muggleborns because of what had happened in his homeland so the houses was created so e wouldn't have to. I also imagine that since Slytherin was a famous wizard from a far away land he became the first headmaster.
After Slytherin's paranoia grew he didn'st stay out of the business of the other founders which led to him and Gryffindor throwing down, Slytherin left but fled, Gryffindor claimed the headmastership by right of conquest and Slytherin's star pupil Merlin became the first head of house for Slytherin.
Gryffindor laster for about a year before he heard a rumor about someone having seen Slytherin and went hunting for it. He never returned.
Ravenclaw took over as headmistress and was good in the position for several years but it wasn't long until she fell ill, the sad event around the diadem of Ravenclaw played out and Ravenclaw never recovered.
Then Hufflepuff who really had no intrest in being headmaster took the job because there was no one else left. She remained headmaster for longer then the other combined and died peacefully of old age after having held the position for almost a century. Hogwarts as we know it took shape under the headmistressship of Hufflepuff.
Can you delve into the concept that the witch-hunt wasn't so terribly in the UK, and more importantly, started in the Renaissance?
Around the 10th century there wasn't a witch-hunt, some claim.
Question about a theory if Dolores Umbridge use the cruciatus curse on Harry would it actually work would she really mean to torture Harry or would the curse not be successful
@EVAN MUDD it probably would have ended badly if Minister fudge found out what umbrage did she would be sent to eskaban for performing one of the unforgivable curses
Kinda reminds me of the friendship and subsequent divide between prof x and magneto
I imagine evil wizards running amok unchecked amongst mugged for hundreds or thousands of years probably also effected how they felt about wizards
Maybe Slytherin was born into a family of purebloods fanatics and hated and looked down on muggles and muggleborns as nothing more than bugs to be stepped on.
We Slytherins like to save our own necks rather than to save others and die for them - Horace Slughorn
Slytherin forever 🐍📗
Slughorn didn't say that. Phineas Nigellus said, "We Slytherins are brave yes, but not stupid. For instance, we'll always choose to save our own necks.", and that is the proper quote. Order Of The Phoenix, page 495. Slughorn never even came close to saying anything like it, not in the books nor the movies.
Snape says different
@@Roguejedai ya...u r quite right
I like to imagine House slytherin was the cobra Kai of hogwarts
Not just because snakes are symbols of them both but……..
Cobra Kai was about teaching kids the skills that would “actually” protect them, the skills that would serve a purpose in life. Controversial as those teachings may have been, they worked.
Slytherin wanted the same thing, to teach his students the skills that would protect them in the “real” world, “outside” the castle walls. The world of inquisition, crusades, and witch hunts. He despised muggles because humanity is “not” good, especially in his time. His hatred towards muggles came from a rational place. A place of understanding of exactly how depraved and violent humanity really is, all Slytherin wanted was to prepare his students and arm them against the “true” horrors that exist beyond the castle in the “real” world outside of a “safe place”
it was explicitly written in the books, that muggles where no threat to wizards or witches..... but i guess this is another retcon then
3:07 among us😳
I understand Salazar reason for such spite, but we HAVE to be better then those who r ignorant towards us 😶
If we don't, we will never break the cycle of hate.
My house is Ravenclaw 💙
IM ravenclaw too
Division can be complicated.
Salazars logic is pretty reasonable. He and his people were being oppressed and he had the power to try and stop it.
The way I have took the founders disagreement seems more like something going on between all of them.
Salazar left, and things died down, but that doesn't mean they died. I think Ravenclaw still held some pure-blood beliefs, as I think she was related to 2 other magical royals who formed 2 of the sacred 28. But she didnt feel like pure-blood was so important that it would define her, though she may still have thought magical lineage was important. This is why I think the book and quill were made, It ensured anyone who was not magically capable did not get accepted into the School.(including muggle-born). This would explain why The founders would be divided among students being taught. Though... Why Helga and Godric would be at "ends" I am not sure. But if we go by the sorting hat, all 4 were at "ends". IMHO
From this story, I can now understand why Slytherin
Had this attitude.
Godric and Salazar are the Charles Xavier and Erick Maximoff of Harry Potter, or a more real world comparison Martin Luther King Jr and Malcom X.
I genuinely believe Slytherin was NOT an evil wizard. To keep things simple, here’s one of the many reasons why. Merlin (who is in the HP universe) was supposedly one of the first wizards placed in the Slytherin house. He was supposedly mentored and taught by Slytherin himself. In the HP universe, Merlin still assisted and allied himself with King Arthur. Why would a Wizard who was supposedly mentored by a “pure blood” supremacist go out of his way to assist a Muggle king? Why would he stand against his witch sister? This alone shows that it’s a lot more complicated than the fact that he was simply a “pure blood” supremacist.
What house are you in?
Slytherin.
I'm just saying, if I was a Slytherin student, and there was an influx of muggle-borns with access to the same crazy spells that I have, I might feel safer knowing there was a giant snake in the walls looking out for me.
So , this means that a Slytherin showing respect towards muggles is seen as a disgrace to the entire Slytherin house ?
Yes! Why to u think draco is against it so as his father ofc
I consider myself to come earlier, hope to get a heart!
The hat is missued. The hat should also we used for wisdom since he seen it all from the beginning.
Im a proud Slytherin and i admire Severous and people like Severous and Albus Severous Potter 🐍💚 . I think Salazar became what he accused. He hated muggles and muggleborns just like the muggles who tortured witches and wizards and he wanted to enslave and destroy them. He created the Chamber of Secrets and Myrtle Elizabeth Warren (Moaning Murtle) was killed by his basilisk . His heir was Tom Riddle. Witches like Hermione Granger were nothing but 'filthy mudbloods' to Salazar. There is no room for racism in our magical world, brothers and sisters. We can live and thrive together as equals! "
Differences of heart and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open"
- Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
I dont know why he didnt unleash the basilisk on the muggles who were hunting witches/wizards
I'd like to think myself a Gryffindor... But I'm probably a Slytherin 🤷♂️
