BREAKDOWN BATTLE - Metalcore vs. Deathcore Riffs (2022) Riff Battle

- What do verses, choruses, intros, and outros have in common? They're not BREAKDOWNS. Here's a video of just the breakdowns. Which genre does it better? You be the judge!
#Metalcore #Guitar #Riffs #Deathcore #Breakdowns
metalcore breakdowns hit harder because the whole song isn’t as heavy.
I don't think that's how that works but I see what you mean lmao
Depends what you consider heavy
@@DOUGLASaraujosoares true. I’m more a metalcore fan personally but I love most genres.
Depends on the metalcore band.
@@bultronlagore4932 I was mainly thinking of bands like adtr and I prevail at the time of this comment.
Deathcore is more stank face but metalcore breakdowns are fun to dance to on occasion. Ik that sounds weird but my favorite kind of breakdowns are groovedowns. So fun to nod your head to. Great video bro! Love options you picked!
Gojira breakdowns groove hard
@@irieeyes12 no words have ever been more true. Remembrance being a prime example
same. not a fan of the recent Lorna Shore breakdowns that seem to be just either pure speed or with gutturals and vocals that seem to be the trend in deathcore 2022. I prefer the type of breakdown in WCAR and BoS Darkbloom (1st breakdown of the song, not the outro breakdown). In short, August Burns Red breakdowns
true but i feel its also subjective cuz a lotta the time metalcore breakdowns put me to sleep and i struggle to find anh interesting groove but deathcore always keeps me entertained and is more fun to bop to for me. as i write this comment i was still listening to the metalcore then started naturally nodding along to the deathcore
The one thing I actually enjoy about Pantera which a lot of bands took from them, adding grooves to metal, especially a breakdown with a massive groove!
I love the breakdown in This Fire by Killswitch Engage. That right after the clean vocals and clean guitar really gets the head banging going for me.
That Architects record is SO GOOD I haven’t jammed that in ages
My favorite of theirs for sure
Don't listen to metalcore really, but I feel that their breakdowns, at least here, are a bit better cause there's that rhythm and roughness of the breakdown complemented by all these really nice harmonic bits, whereas the breakdowns of deathcore (presented here) are much more singular
Try "Bow down" & "Body bag" by I PREVAIL ...metalcore songs.
Yeah I agree! But the description says this video is not a "Breakdown" it's a riffs only.
Dipende già adesso il moderno deathcore è molto migliorato dal punto di vista dei riff
Awe mannn, you played the riff to Death Roll, but the breakdown is so mf good!! there’s so much to unpack with it and it’s an adventure all in itself!!!
The winner is domination by pantera
One word:
"Necessary Death by End"
This love
I love your videos, the concept is really creative and the videos themselves are also always done quite well. Thank you for making content :D
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated
This dude is copying “TheSuffocator” as you can clearly see here👉 ruclips.net/video/m_LqiiAEXZQ/видео.html
@@bultronlagore4932 that’s a completely different video. Riff comparisons have been done for ages. You can’t copyright a popular video concept.
This video shows that breakdown quality is more dependent on the artist and than the genre. Though a lot of those deathcore breakdowns are fucking SICK
Crabcore breakdowns slap the hardest tbh 😀
IMO And Hell Followed With's Proprioception album has some of the nastiest breakdowns of all time. Oceano and The Acacia Strain would've been cool to see too. Regardless fuckin awesome content as always ✌🏻
Remember hearing the breakdown in these colors dont run for the first time while prepping for dinner rush at work. I remember looking over at my buddy who let me hear it from his phone like DUDE.
1:17 that's the adoptation of gojira rakes, loved it a lot. That gojira pick scrape will catch my attention✨
Great song choice, great editing, great playing, great humour, great new glasses. Well done and thank you !
Much appreciated as always! Thank you!
The lead up to the breakdown in Pandora Joe screaming ALL IS CALM BUT THEN COMES THE KILLING!!! Is so good and the breakdown that follows makes me want to fight a gorilla lol
ngl its so much harder to compare breakdowns without the context of the song. cool video though :D
Metalcore almost always wins because you get the best of both worlds
I see what you mean but I have to personally disagree. It’s subjective though.
idk, metalcore is just shit and cringe.
That ending was hilarious! 🤣🤣
Hardcore vs Hard rock 🤘🏻
Metalcore vs Heavy metal 🤘🏻
Thrashcore vs Thrash metal 🤘🏻
Deathcore vs Death metal 🤘🏻
Metalcore always better than deathcore.
Nope they’re both good
Both are good. One is easier to get into.
Personally, you need deathcore for the breakdowns. Metalcore is more palatable for mainstream.
Sick playing dude and I love the Schecters you own. Badass guitars.
Thanks! If you can't tell it's my favorite brand 😁
@@ThomasHogue I’m with you there. I own an Omen-6.
@@ThomasHogue i own a diamond series c6 plus ocean burst blue
@@ThomasHogue Same! I have a translucent purple Studio 5 bass and I’m about to get a satin honey Studio 6 🔥

Deathcore: | 000-00-1 |
Everytime I hear death roll beholder of the crown pops in my head like tf u doing buddy's stealing my thundah
I think black tongue and traitors would’ve been cool to see on the deathcore side, but nice video :)
Black tongue for sure
Black tongue got their spot via IA, considering Austin and Eddie are on both bands
@@jaceosburn true but they have different styles
Black tongue downtwmpo death core
Downtempo
Bouncy vs. dirty
I love how much you enjoy playing. I can’t even imagine how much time you’ve spent behind a guitar. 🤘🤘
Too much probably 😂
Breakdowns are difficult Part in a Song 😁
No such thing as too much
The thing about Metalcore and Deathcore from someone who loves both:
Metalcore usually feels somber, in a way, it lets you deal with the pain while deathcore is angry and allows you to deal with your anger. At least that's how I interpret it.
And of course, you can headbang, mosh and groove to both of them.
Both are amazing. Depends on my mood that day for what I prefer
I gotta admit, when Miracle came out, that second half of the breakdown checked all the boxes.
part 2 please!
Could be! Thinking of different categories to put against each other
@@ThomasHogue thrash vs groove?
Yes part 2!
I love the chunk no captain chunk break down it is fire
Wage War honestly is a little bit deathcore, I am a mainly deathcore listener, and Wage War hit hard.
That breakdown of thy art is murder is nasty. I love it.
But I feel like a metalcore breakdown hits harder because as someone else pointed out, a metalcore song isn’t that heavy to begin with.
This was a sick video! More breakdown videos! 🔥
Deathcore is very boring and repetitive.
Metalcore breakdowns will always be better
metalcore breakdowns, depending on the band, like Wage War fucking hits hard same with INK. Like any band that can go from BREOOOOOOO to *angelic voice*, then theres DEATHCORE. like deathcore is just yk the breakdown genre. they have the heavier breakdowns (Slaughter to the Prevail, Brand of Sacrifice), the more stank and headbangable ones. personally both genres have their ups and downs but i have to go with deathcore since Demolisher was the first breakdown i listened to.
I just like deathcore sound on guitar with metalcore style writing with good screaming with a good mix of lows 🤷🏻♂️
Great song choice on Fur and Claw & Crusades!
Okay the last bit at the end of the IA part got me 😂😂😂
I wish there were more bands out there FFAA, for me they have the perfect mix of GROOVE and DEATHCORE out there.. And I think thats because of their drummer and the guitar players, they mix so so well together... Couldnt get into their last albums but ABSOLUTE HOPE, ABSOLUTE HELL is still a massive album...
that wage war riff is one of my favs at the moment. so STINKY
its to good
Holy f***, that ending was so funny! I already adored these videos, and now you've added "bits" to them?! You, good sir, are the f*****' man 🤘
The two genres were a bit easier to distinguish in the past years, imo. Take for example the breakdowns from Blessthefall's "His last Walk" album (for those who want to skip the rest, listen to "A message to the Unknown", "Guys like you make us look bad" - the ending of the track, "Rise up"...). Or some All that Remains ("This calling" - there are vocals but what guitars play is a breakdown), Asking Alexandria's "A prophecy".
wich drum vst does he use?
What's the guitar u r using for the deathcore?
Schecter apocalypse c7
to me (this is subjective) metalcore just sounds like some guys throwing random notes together and calling it a breakdown most of the time, at least with bands like infant annihilator, brand of sacrifice, etc. are actually talented and can play more than a couple random notes
cringe acting why
Thy art is murder>>>>>>
Metalcore is better.
I vote Deathcore in this one 😊🤘
Infant annihilator takes the cake!!!!
Fit rules
Hahaha awesome
Can i know... String gause u using 10-74?
Thank you Thomas, very cool!
I don’t want to be that guy but Isn’t the wage war riff the main riff not the breakdown? Love your vids by the way
Ah, you're not wrong but I suppose I still considered it a breakdown and I love the harmonics ha
@@ThomasHogue yeah it’s modern metalcore, let’s be honest, it’s all just a big breakdown
It’s pretty much the same let’s be honest lol. Good song tbf
I really like the harmonics in that song
Hardcore and deathcore breakdowns are my favourites
I love metalcore breakdowns way more they hit harder for me
Yeah Whitechapel wins! Cool video my guy!
Yeah I wanna listen to something that sounds all boxed in to a subgenre!....Said the sheep of metal. Meanwhile other bands are just doing whatever they want. 😆.
Love the content! But the best part is when the other is silent and looks so bored and unimpressed lol.
I listen to both so in my originals you hear influences from both and other subgenres
No Attila, No Emmure, No Lorna Shore, No Suicide Silence ???
“no dogshit bands?” actually to be fair, every band in this video is dogshit.
Immediate like for adding in some CNCC
my two babies fighting
Your guitar tone is pretty dope actually 👌
Kinda sad to see no polaris on this list 😪
That Schecter Apocalypse is badass!
Like for those schecters
My man, what are you as plugins for this? Or are you going straight into an amp?
Helix native and parallax for bass
Very recently found your channel. Very glad I did. 🤘
Awesome! Glad to hear
Evertune 😍
Can someone do the infant annihilator tab for me please
Check out songsterr.com
the saw is the law guitar sound is so sick
Needs some more classic metalcore bands there. Unearth,AILD,etc...
Round 2 maybe 😁
This is so awesome 😈
Tight
Wicked Mix Tunes.
Sick asf
Some good stuff here man
Gotta Love IA.
I missed you, bro where u go?
Still doing my thing! My last Metallica video took a bit longer than usual though
Ok bro, ure doing right keep rocking man, i love ur. Videos, cheers from mexico
😂😂
The Architects breakdown is my favorite, ngl.
I was waiting for these colours don't run
awesome!🔥🔥
Literally sounds like one long song lmao picking the most simple and boring breakdowns from all those bands
Awesome video.
But the greatest breakwown of all times is the one from Linkin Park`s One Step Closer 💥
The OGs!
Add domination by pantera and you have my agreement
And again I'm amazed. Keep it up bro
Killer tone on the schecter
love these types of vids
Sick 🤘🏾
Architects always win "BLEGH"
That ending xDD
Great video
I don't care what anyone says. The ferocity of the machine gun riffing on Fur & Claw is unmatched
All this showed me was how boring both genres are to listen to.
Depends what you’re there for. Deathcore in particular has a lot of the gnarliest vocals over the breakdowns and that’s exactly why the guitar parts are simple in those places. But if you feel there are no interesting or complex guitar parts or arrangements in the genre then you’re listening to the wrong deathcore bands for your taste.
@@lizzieg8014 Used to listen to a lot of metal but can’t listen to it anymore, a lot of it just blends together (similar riffs, used to like metal vocals but find them super boring because there’s only so much you can do with them, never liked breakdowns even when I loved metal, mixing in most metal is overly compressed and does not go together, may as well has no bassist because you can never hear it). Only metal bands I can still listen to today is Polyphia, Periphery, and some All Shall Perish.
@@fakealias Polyphia, metal? What
@@decay5972 Yes "Math Rock" I know not metal. Included them because some songs can overlap into metal territory.
So what do you listen to?
All garbage, every last bit. Not a drop of metalcore or deathcore in any of this. I feel trolled.
