Hi. Loved this video. Quick question - I am unable to test with different photographs. Do I have to do this process with every file or can I have a master file and only change the base picture as needed.
I would thoroughly recommend Marty for all your Photoshop tutorials. He's very clear, precise and the finished article is exactly what he has achieved. Thank you.
as a person who is new to both photoshop and watercolour painting this tutorial is brilliant, It worked perfectly, producing exactly the type of watercolor image I wanted with my photo.and i imagine i will be doing alot more over the coming weeks. Marty You are amazing! cheers.
I love this tutorial. It worked perfectly, producing exactly the type of watercolor image I wanted with the photo I had. Your presentation style is lovely. So calming and soothing.
Thank you for your tutorial on turning a photo into a watercolor. I tried to donate but I was not able to because I do not use Paypal. I was wondering what brushes you used to create your brush strokes mask?
great video. do you have a tutorial on how to make the brush stroke image? or how to adjust this one? ie what brushes you used to make the opening wider? thank you.
When say, "opening", do you mean the center of the brush? If so, you can't. However, you can adjust its size, angle, rotation, and other qualities by opening Brush Settings. Open the Brush Tool and go to Window and press Shift + F5 (top of your keyboard).
Hello Marty! I love your tutorials and the results for the watercolor paintings are magnificent. Can this recipe be turned into an action or script. It's not easy to remember all the steps.
Thanks a million Marty! I was a total Photoshop ignorant, but because of you, I am now able to use my skills in so many ways, I am even able to earn some money on the side.
Such a good video, well explained, perfect length, detailed instructions and even files! Subscribed immediately. Thank you for uploading high quality content 🙂
Thanks Marty, keep up the good work... you were my source for learning photoshop when no one else was doing it on youtube... you are truly a selfless Master... thanks a lot.
Hi Marty, thank you so much for your incredible videos. My poor brain is on FIRE-I’m afraid. Now, could all of the steps in this video be done on the iOS version of the Photoshop by any chance? Thank you again.
There are Photoshop actions out there to replicate the look of watercolor paintings, however, this method is much more nuanced and the brush strokes are specific to the photo.
What brush did you use to create your brush strokes image? I love that brush. If it is something that you created and have for sale I would love to buy a copy.
Marty, I really love your tutorials. Keep them coming. I'm wondering if you or any of your followers know of any tutorials to get the Norman Rockwell effect in Photoshop. I have been trying tutorials that are close, but I'm not satisfied yet.
Thanks! I don't know of tutorials that emulate Rockwell's paintings. His work is so unique in style and substance that it's truly impossible to replicate it. It requires a mastery of illustration and a deep understanding of human gesture to evoke emotion.
Hello, if I want to make a picture for a canvas in a larger image size... I only have to use a larger Aquarall template than yours? Is this all to be considered? Many thanks Ines
Hi Marty - great tut. I just applied it to a close in view of the GWB with the Little Red Lighthouse from the Palisades Interstate Park captured at sunset a few days ago. Did you say there was a way to swap the image out with another one and apply the effect?
Double-click any Smart Object layer to open its immediate source image. If that source image is also a Smart Object, double-click it to open ITS source image. Continue these steps until it opens the original photo. Open a different photo that you’d like to replace it with and place it above the original photo in the Layers panel. Hide the former image. Size the new image using the Transform Tool. Close the tabs of each Smart Object to replace the former image with the new image. Voila!
Thank you so much for the refreshed tutorial. I have been waiting to do something like this. I am playing around with a B&W photo and when it came to the adjusting of vibrance (4:44) it was not available. Do you think that is because it is not a color image? Thanks again for keeping your channel fresh and full of inspiring ideas.
Great tutorial. Have one doubt though. You said we should convert the image into smart object so we can replace the image later and do the whole thing again. Can anyone tell me how can i replace the image so as to not repeat the procedure again with other photos?
Double-click a Smart Object layer to open its immediate source image. If that source image is a Smart Object, as well, double-click it to open ITS source image. Continue these steps until it opens the original photo. To replace the photo, open a different photo and place it above the original photo in the Layers panel. Close the tabs of each Smart Object to replace the former image with the new image.
i love the speed and detail - ty for helping the struggling beginners, Question Marty, do you ever have this finished article as a complete download that we can use as a reference and learning tool for when we struggle
Love the tutorial, thank you. My finished picture however is missing some of the photo which needs to be in there. I can't work out how to enlarge the brush strokes to cover more of the picture. Could you help with that please?

Excellent tutorial, I like the fact that I can replace the photo in the Smart Object - as long as the photo I swap is A) the same dimensions and B) the same orientation. But - some photos seem to resize themselves! They start off as the same dimensions as the one inside the Smart Object - but for some reason enlarge themselves as they are replaced. A Free Transform does not work as the Pencil Lines are all for a larger image!!! It may work better as an Action?

Yes, you can record all the steps as an action which will automatically apply them to any photo.

What did I do wrong when it comes to using the filter gallery it's greyed out so can't select it
Go to Image > Mode > RGB color, 8 bits/Channel
@@BLTV_Photoshop I had the same problem. Took me a while to figure out that the problem was my image being in 16 bit mode.

Pretty much. Make your document 300 ppi and when you're adding filters, etc., increase the size amounts and settings.

Since "Vibrance" and "Saturation" affect the intensity of colors, they have no effect on b & w images.
awesome work Marty
