    Great tutorial, Helen. Like some others, I had a problem with the brush painting white on a new layer. I found that I had to make my snapshot from the flyout menu on the History panel, and change "From: Document" to "From: Merged Layers." I was then able to paint on a new layer on top of my photo. I also started with a raw image from Adobe Camera Raw, then converted that to 8-bit in Ps. After that, I created my snapshot. Hope this helps some others. Thank you.

    Thank you for this, it was a lot of fun. I think my image was a bit dark and it got a tad muddy but a run through ACR in PS and it came out nicely. I too was having an issue with the white brushing. I figured I would follow along precisely and cropped my image (although I did not move the handles) and it worked as in the tutorial. I was using a raw image as well so maybe if I had of save it as a jpg first and then tried it would have been fine.

    Really fun and useful, but I must have done something wrong. I only get some sort of white paint though I tested with a colorful photo. And no details, even though I tried all sorts of sizes on the brush and the tolerance. Do you know what I might have missed?

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley 5 лет назад

      Karin, I am not sure what is happening here but you aren't alone as I checked and some people have the same problem and I have been able to duplicate it on one of my images. A couple of things to check: check that you are using the Art History Brush and that, in the History panel that you have the Art History Brush icon to the immediate left of the original image or the cropped image.
      If neither work, (and I suspect they aren't the problem), I suggest you flatten your image to a single layer, save it (as a copy if you don't want to lose your layers), close the image and open the flattened image. Now add the new layer, and see if that works. I was able to go from white paint to painting in color this way so I hope it works for you?

    • @karin.margareta
      @karin.margareta 5 лет назад +1

      I think the problem was that I used a raw-file, it works with a jpg. Though I really need a lot of practise, I have discovered :-)
      Thank you for the answer and for the tutorial, a really fun way to make something different in Photoshop!
