  • In this video we drive out to the New Mexico desert to photograph the Milky Way in the Valley Of Dreams. We also drive to the Grand Canyon to try and get some shots as well. I briefly explain my milky way photography process along the way.

    I moved from Boston to Northern NM for the photography and astronomy 4 years ago. Left a high paying job for the world class outdoor activities and dark skies. I’ll never go back

    16:36 HOLD THE PHONE!!! So, i went there and to the Grand Canyon, when i was 12 on a family vacation. I remember seeing the crater and thought it was great. Me and my wife were driving out to CA, she had never seen the desert, so i stopped at the crater to show her. HOLY SHIT. Apparently, the meteor was either a diamond, or pure gold, based on how much they charge. They didnt charge hardly anything when i was a kid. It is amazing though. My wife thought the "speed limit" sign was hilarious...

    okay, I saw the final image, and literal tears were brought to my eyes, not just by the beauty, but by the story behind it... how you got lost, and then ran into a native american father that has been looking for the valley of dreams for so long, it just seems like an adventure I wanna pursue. However the main thing that just spoke to me was how gorgeous our universe is, from the photo and vast observable milky way to the galaxys that are billions of light years away. I wish people would observe how small they are in the universe, and acknowledge that there has to be an afterlife, and something had to create our reality, our conscious. I like to think whatever created time, space, and matter, is god... and our consciousness and individual perceptions of reality is proof. Thankyou Delta for taking this journey and sharing it. Also NEVER stop with the humor aspect of your videos, it brings another feeling to your videos, so entertaining! Love it man!

    Great video, Walt. I have been to the Grand Canyon several times. I got great photos on the North Rim, but I had a problem. I took them from the North Kaibab trailhead parking lot. I didn't think of shooting over the canyon. Stupid me! I did get really dark skies, but trees were in the foreground. NOT VERY EPIC! I was a beginning my journey into astrophotography. I will do better next time. This October I am hoping to find Alien Throne. The October 14, 2023 annular eclipse is going to make a direct hit on Bisti Badlands and the Valley of Dreams. So it is my plan to get some interesting images during the daytime and at night. October is not idea for "the Milky Way season" but any dark sky and stars should be incredible. Maybe a few star trail images will be good. I think I know where Alien Throne is located and I might use my new drone to scout it out during the daytime. Valley of Dreams is not in either of the two wilderness areas in northwest New Mexico. Bisti Badlands is in a wilderness area. What that means is drone flying is allowed in Valley of Dreams but not in Bisti Badlands. I have a couple of Car Finder apps on my phone. I think they will work off satellites rather than cell phone towers, so I think they will help me find my car at night. Calling for help in the middle of the night doesn't sound like an adventure I want. Thank you for such a humorous spin on the topic.

    I know where the Alien Throne is. Been there several times. Unfortunately, you went to the only one of these areas (there are 3 total) that require you to use a Navajo Guide. Luckily you didn't get caught.

      It was just way too hot to explore as long as we wanted. I'll have to go back there in the cooler months. A Navajo guide could be fun!

      @@deltaastrophotography If you like I can take you to the other 2 places without a guide but I have a guide that I can call for the Alien Throne area. There's also Ship Rock in that area. Probably one of the biggest rocks you'll ever see. Bring your lizard as well.

    • @deltaastrophotography
      @deltaastrophotography  10 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah it was still pretty hot out there even at night. And that's essentially what those dark frames are best at. Removing the thermal nose.

      @@deltaastrophotography I really like your photoshop processing videos, there's a few things you do completely differently than the other astrophotographers I follow on youtube and I like that. The more ways and tools I learn, the best it is. I am not looking to get additional content for my money, I just feel I should give you something in return for what you already do and a monthly Patreon subscription seems like a good way.
