    Can you still use the monitor while the laptop is closed? I want to connect a gaming laptop to an external monitor, but have limited space so keeping the laptop closed and tucked away would be ideal.
    If so, would it essentially operate the same as a PC tower? Meaning when it's asleep, I just sit down and shake the mouse or press a key to wake it up?
    Maybe a better way to frame the question is -- how does the overall experience change from laptop+external monitor vs having a traditional tower with a monitor? I wouldn't want to fuss around each time I sit down to my computer. Make sense?

      I have seen people use 2 external monitors with their laptop is closed. While it should work, you may lose performance from both the heat damaging the screen and the laptop boosts lower. Not to mention, you benefit from it being open as you basically have that extra screen

    My one question is, what and or how can you use a headphone/earphone on the external monitor? Or can you just connect the said product (headphone/earphone) to your laptop and just use it as usual?

    • @BGDave
      @BGDave  2 года назад +9

      You can connect your headphones to your laptop and use it as usual, or assuming you're using HDMI (hdmi carries audio as well as video) you can plug them into the headphone jack on your monitor and select your monitor as your output and the sound will go through your headphones. I did try this, but the sound card built into my monitor is pretty bad and left me without any bass, and using the sound card built into my laptop.

    Hi Dave . I got a question. I have laptop with 16 gb and 3060 . Hdmi port is 2.0 .. no display port or thunderbolt.. Would i be able to play lightweight games like csgo on an external monitor without any input lag , using hdmi only ?? .. i mean would it be as responsive as playing on the stock screen ??

    • @BGDave
      @BGDave  6 месяцев назад

      Hdmi is a great input choice that gets a bad wrap online. Hdmi is just as capable of DisplayPort, as long as you're not attempting to use GSync. In many cases it might actually be more responsive if your external panel is a higher refresh rate than your laptop.

      Your laptop will plug up directly to the monitor and work as intended and properly. I would recommend at least matching your laptop’s refresh rate at 144hz, though 165 or 240hz is also an option. 60hz would be a worse experience.

      The laptop's internal display refresh rate does not limit what you can do for an external monitor. The limiting factor of an external monitor is the port that the laptop has, and since you have the same laptop as I do, your port is an HDMI 2.0 port, which will allow you to connect up to a 1080p 240hz monitor, and take complete advantage of those 240hz.

      you'll still be able to use the laptop screen. You can either duplicate it with your external monitor, or extend it which will allow you to use the 2 displays individually. While extending your display, you will see a little bit of performance drop due to the 2nd display being active, but nothing to worry about.
