New Search in Gilgo Beach Serial Murders

- Members of the Gilgo Beach Task Force spent two days this week searching a wooded area in Manorville, Long Island with dogs. Local media outlets quoted sources saying the search was connected to the Gilgo Beach murder investigation. Rex Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, is charged with murdering four women whose remains were found on Gilgo Beach. But the murders of other women, a toddler and a man remain unsolved. Law&Crime's Angenette Levy talks with documentarian Josh Zeman about what the new search could mean and whether there is more than one serial killer in this episode of Crime Fix - a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

That’s not how evidence works. Having no criminal record is definitely something a jury would consider when determining if someone did it. If there’s other evidence that removes any reasonable doubt, then it wouldn’t matter and they’d find guilty. It doesn’t mean people without criminal records are unable to commit crimes, that would be absurd. It’s just that most heinous crimes are committed by people with criminal records.

Lots of serial killers don't have criminal records until they are caught. Hopefully they will find some new evidence.

My son and I were on our way to his dad’s out in Wading River today and we saw 2 cops with a dog scoping out the area off the side of the road, not too far from Manorville, and I nudged my son and said “maybe they’re looking for bodies” since I’m always watching/listening to crime stories… then I see this 😱

Considering they found the 4 wrapped in burlap it’s entirely possible he changed his MO as why would he continue to dump bodies in the same place after bodies had been found there.
Every serial killer has changed there mo. They do less after they get away with it. These two do t know what they are talking about.

Thank you, Joe, for your common sense and expert opinion that this is ONE PERSON. There are many profilers who still say it’s more than one.
I’ve always felt it was one perpetrator. Rex has (allegedly 🙄) been doing this for decades … he probably got bored in his sick mind and just changed his MO to make it more “fun” … (shudder).
What a surprise that there would be dead bodies in a wooded area within an hour of a city of 23 million people..They should set up trail cams in the woods...
The logistics of that would be a nightmare… an hour radius of every populated city would be a very large portion of the countries woods, the sheer size of area that would need to be covered and the need for one every 10-20 feet or so to ensure it captured everything would mean billions of cams, all needing to be tended to and replace batteries ect. Then there’s the massive amount of private property and privacy concerns, most people, especially ones with wooded property, would not want the government setting up cameras all over their property.
You could take NYC and add the next five most populated cities in the U.S. and combine their total population and it still wouldn't add up to 23,000,000. Where did you get the figure from?

One of my Aunties is named Jeanette so every time I hear her name I think of her! Whether it's him or not they need to take some of the annual War on Drugs budget of 300 Billion (yes every year 300 billion) and put it into a War on Violent Predators!
I so agree. The war on drugs is hurting patients that have painful diseases and pain syndromes that cause acute unbearable pain. They are targeting legitimate patient and drs who treat their patients and do all their due diligence, and yet the DEA insists,as well as the CDC insists on interfering in people’s medical treatments.

Could he have changed his MO due to his advancing years? The body parts were found years ago. He would have been younger, fitter and probably found it easier, and not so much now.

It was an episode of law and order years ago where this man would pick up women and hunt them in the woods with a dog..he would bury them on a stretch of beach..just like Gilgo..

Seems like these newer finds are from an earlier time period. He probably decided that his first approach was too arduous and messy and switched MOs. I bet you this is all on Huerman.

Many years ago i went to gilgo beach early in the morning to do some metal detecting but was turned away by some worker on the beach. I would consider that person for investigation. I cannot remember a face. Nobody even turned me away from any beach so early in the am.
Something tells me there are more shocking things to come in this case...and I'm sure we'll probably not know how many he actually killed...
Maybe you got killers there who were in an army doing bad stuff overseas, as we see going on in Middle East repeatedly over the years. .

I don't agree with that analysis of why "the killer" would dismember at the beginning and then change their "mo" later....his explanation seemed off, because of how it was harder to hide bodies longer ago than now????
Why should he care to dismember them if LE after all those years could not catch the killer?
I think its more a case of R.H. got older and fatter and couldn't do the dismemberment "work" in a limited time like he could earlier.

I've always thought it was one person but I'm not opposed to thinking that it could be multiple offenders, like in BC Canada we have a highway stretch called the highway of tears and it's believed that over the 50 years but there have been multiple serial murderers. But in this case, the body sites are so confined that I think it's likely one. And that is supported by the internet searches that were found. He was looking up "asian twink". That really fits with the man that was found.

Sorry, can't appreciate the host's voice in all these videos any longer, noisy and annoying. I left these videos when just started watching due to the host's voice. She doesn't have to show her slight happiness to please the audience. Comparing to other videos on L&C that are narrated by lower, CALMER male voice which are needed in crime videos, noticeable difference. Is it possible for some change??
