Percy’s sword is called Riptide and it’s a kind of like Excalibur. Not sure why they left that out when explaining that it will always return to him.
Boys I highly recommend the FX TV show "Shogun" theyve come out swingin and the show has heavy House of the dragon vibes 💯🔥

Oh the reason Chiron has a leg brace, is because in one of the myths, Heracles accidentally shoots an arrow through Chiron's thigh, and the wound is unable to heal because the arrow was tipped with Hydra blood. So he's been stuck with that wound and brace for thousands of years. Lots of fun

@@Atrulion the brace was actually a detail added for the show, it wasnt mentioned in the books, which really shows the care they took into everything: they took into account a relatively unknown myth in the public eye to add that extra level of detail, even further than the books. They went to the ORIGINAL source material lol

She's wants the same as the other kids, her parent's love and acceptance. She just goes about the wrong way

A small trivia, the reason Clarisse was so pissed at the broken spear is because the eletric spear was a gift from her father, one of a kind haha
Fun fact: Chiron's actor was actually riding a horse through the whole shooting, they just made him wear special tights and erased the horse's head later!
The owls in the beginning were not in the script, too. They just showed up while they were filming and they decided to let them in the final product

FYI:
The half-bloods do tend to take on traits of their parents. Clarisse is the daughter of Ares, God of War, and inherited his aggressiveness. That's where most of her bullying comes from. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Combat, and inherited her gift of strategy. In the capture the flag event, it was her idea to use Percy as a distraction so Luke and his team could get to their flag and capture it. Percy inherited more from his father because his father was one of the Big Three. He's a bit stronger and has more raw talent than most of the campers due to this. That is why he did so well in combat. His water powers are handy too.
On a side note. The divide between those who love the Percy Jackson movie and those who hate it is fairly simple. Those people who had read the books tend to hate the movie while those who didn't tend to like it. The movie wasn't that bad, per se, but it is drastically different from the book.
Annabeth
The main issue I have with the movies is that they don’t understand the characters. They made Percy cocky, aloof, rebellious. Percy in the books is sarcastic, yes, and funny and stubborn and defiant and loyal, but he’s so so so earnest. Book Grover is such a sweetheart and Aryan absolutely embodies him in the show, perfectly nailing his endearing awkwardness and heart. But movie Grover just….isn’t Grover at all. They decided to make him lascivious and completely took away his love for and desire to protect nature. Annabeth in the first film is just a mashup of Annabeth and Clarisse. They focused more on her battle skills instead of her cleverness, ingenuity, and strategic mind, and made her hostile to Percy initially in replace of Clarisse.
If they’d cared about actually characterizing the characters correctly, I think more book fans would’ve enjoyed the films.

Things they don’t necessarily explain:
Clarissa’s spear was a gift from Ares
Percy’s been at camp for like 1-2 weeks at this point (not days)
Demigods are more durable than regular humans, things that would hurt a normal person won’t affect them as much
Wasn't it also mentioned in the book right before they go on a quest that demigods are also vulnerable to mortal weapons. I believe it was said by Chiron

@@jedzilla1841 yea when they explain the sword since it’s made with celestial bronze. Chriron explains that demigods are vulnerable to both celestial bronze and regular weapons.
Can't wait for the next one which is one of my favs. That Clarisse scream was not scripted so Walker was genuinely scared😂😂 and the spear was a gift from her father so understandable reaction.
You can see the kid behind her sit up and turn around like "woah, what happened" 😂

so to put it into more context, clarisse’s spear was so important to her cause it was the ONLY gift she got from her father, aries, and he hardly acknowledges his daughters, she was the exception. so that rage and anger is from her pain of never being noticed more than once. her story arc is one of my favorites, and i know she’ll be one of your favorites soon.

The titles of the episodes are named after the chapters of the book, which is the perspective of Percy. So that’s where the odd titles are from.
Just trust the process. If the haters dont get the show stopped early theres 5 whole seasons atleast. Rick the author of the books 📚 definitely 👌 thinks this is a great representation of his work.
And if they want, there are 17 books in the PJO universe!
Guys, Luke is like the purest character. I get it, even when I first saw the series, I was sus about him cause I thought he was being too nice or smth. But you'll love Luck's character so much. Luke just loves his sister so much and will do anything to protect her, cause they are family.

The target audience may ostensibly be children, but if you look closer you'll find a lot in the show for adults as well. But it's quiet and subtle, and I think many people have failed to pick up on it. It is, as you noted, a fine line to walk, and IMO they did it beautifully.
To answer your question about the older female who talks to Grover, she is a nymph - specifically, a plant nymph. They're called dryads. There are also freshwater nymphs (naiads) and saltwater nymphs (nereids).
Percy Jackson is a lot like harry potter in the way that as the characters age, they mature and so will the show. The same way the earlier harry potter movies feel like theyre made for little kids this will feel the same but for young teens and slowly get darker and darker.
FYI: The show cut out how Percy had actually been getting training in swordplay from Luke. Also, the ADHD translates into a sort of battlefield awareness, allowing him to keep focus when fighting. It’s a trait of all half bloods. The weapons were, not dulled or wooden. Since they are training to fight monsters in the future Camp half blood does not pull punches.
Yes Percy is a natural at swordsmanship and he only gets better throughout the books, that 3 v 1 fight does a really good job of showing it

Also not sure if this has been mentioned, but there’s five books in the series and it DOES get darker. At least on paper, idk how they’ll handle it in the show.
As a fan of the books I loved all the episode titles because they are chapter titles from the book! Dior did a great job at playing Clarisse and making viewers dislike her so much lol
I will say, as a kid, Percy getting claimed by Poseidon always gave me chills.
Now as an adult, it still gives me goosebumps. 👀👌🏼

I don't LARP, but I do historical reenactment. It's incredibly fun, with an amazing community around it, and I totally encourage anyone to try, be that the combat, roleplay, or crafting sides of the hobbies. Love hearing you take on this series! As someone who read the books and other series by Rick Riordan, it's amazing to see it brought to life to new audiences, and as such a great adaptation.
Remember, demigods are more durable than mortal kids 😂. They also have innate fighting abilities.
You can tell they're having fun with this series!
You guys should watch "The Adam Project." The kid who plays Percy plays the kid version of Ryan Reynolds, and he was hilarious.
This series is SO MUCH like Harry Potter in the development of themes and the coming-of-age that happens with each of the main characters! I really really hope you guys can go this whole season (and hopefully 4 seasons after!) without spoilers lmao

Percy Jackson is similar to Harry Potter in terms of the story maturing as he gets older. The stakes get higher and the story gets a little bit darker with each installment. I think the show has a lot of potential when it comes to adapting the later books. I think it'll only get better from here

At 60 yrs old, I liked the books but found it hard to follow the characters (there are so many names to keep track of!). I really like the series. Walker is a great Percy, and a wonderful young actor (Adam Project). I have an easier time keeping track of characters when I have a face to put with it. This series is staying close to the books, and I appreciate it. Love that you guys are watching it and I LOVE this series.
I found an owl that was hooting. Traced the sound to it. Then looked at it and hooted back for a bit. It was fun. (A little tropical screech owl.)

And yes this could seem like it’s just for kids but the stories that are told later on in the season it gets better. And hoping that we get to 5 seasons it’ll get better and definitely will show these kids growing up and show character development!

One thing I LOVE about this series is the way that they explain (maybe not in the show but for SURE in the book) that the reason he and the others are so good at battle from the start is their adhd. ADHD in this universe is described as an innate part of demigods - it's their in blood battle sense making them hyperaware of everything around them.
i love you guys being a bit stressed about the weapons and saying it might be too much, because although this is a middle grade book and tv series: Percy has a kill count around 5500. So it is for sure on the more brutal side. Camp is for learning to survive in the real world where monsters are everywhere. Capture the flag, the way they play it, is war training, so ofc they need weapons!

They did a great job. As a fan of the books and how horrible the movies were I was concerned. We watch this with our 9 year olds and it has been a great family show to look forward to. Sad the next season isn’t in production yet but glad it’s coming.
oh it's definitely targeted at kids haha there is no mistaking that. It was originally written for the author's son.
But I still read the whole thing while past the target market as the world was quite interesting.

Ok so the show it’s mean to be a coming of age story. Each season covering one book, Percy’s 12 in the first one and turns 16 on the last one. Season two has already been confirmed I think oak has definitely lots to look forward to

I love watching your reaction on this series! I watched the series after being a fan of the books and being disappointed with the movies. So I have a different perspective on the series. I can never be sure whether my feelings on the show are genuinely on its merits or in comparison with the books. So it is refreshing to see the reaction of you guys who are seeing it fresh.

I think the show did alright AS AN ADAPTATION. But the books from Rick Riordan are waaayyy better. There are parallels to the book but they still left a ton out and changed a lot of stuff. So I definitely recommend for you guys to read the books of you like the show. But please whatever you do NEVER go watch the movies or at least dont take them seriously!
they did as well as they could've since the books are in first person pov and that's hard to portray in visual media. i had a little issue with a few changes they made in the later episodes and ofcourse the pacing thru me off certain times but you can't deny this series is hella enjoyable and sweet
I feel like this is a huge ask but I would love if you guys would consider reacting to the vampire diaries. It is rather lengthy, & I believe that may not be up your alls alley. highly recommend watching black sails, it's just an incredible show in general but it's also created by the people who do this show. it's definitely more of an adult series compared to this lol but it's so beautifully crafted and those guys are doing just as good of a job with this series as well.

Mt biggest complaint that i have. Having read all the books, and being a big fan is this.
It feels a bit rushed. Without spoilers, i understand that they had to fit the story into 8 episodes, and i do feel like with the length of the episodes, they did as well as they could have.
For me, i just wish it got either 10 episodes or longer episodes (ideally both)
I would have spent 2 episodes on what the first episode covered for example. Showing more of Grover and Percy at school, getting in more of the little things that made the books so successful. Even something like the playing cards we see... they are a small part in the grand scheme of things, but they do pop up... and there are other little things like that, that take a show from being okay, to being really good.
More time at the school gives us more character development and world building too.
Similar would be this episode. It could have easily been 2 episodes, as the time covered is more like 3 weeks in the books if i remember rightly, and yet it feels like a day or 2 in the show. With more time, you again, get more development, and you would get to know characters like Luke, and Clarisse more, and understand them a bit more. As well as see Percy train a little bit, because as good as i think they did the fight scene, it comes out of nowhere. Everything they showed us this episode, had him being awful at everything, and you would imagine they did some sword combat.
However, i do get that they did the best the could, with the time they had, and i would give this show a solid 6.5/10, it's above average, and i am coming from the PoV of someone who read the books. Maybe if i hadn't, i might go with a 7/10 or even a 7.5/10.
I was definitely satisfied. I think people just want act for act which can never happen because they are just two different mediums, and no amount of budget could pull that off especially not in this economy lol. The young actors are a little green but I expected that it comes with having to cast young actors. some were surprisingly good. Dallas Lu was a stand out, out of the kids. The Sokka actor was great too having to fill the shoes of comic relief is a tough job and he did it well.
