So very true. When we got this property 3 years ago we got chickens and ducks and the rodents were everywhere. Then we got a couple of cats and it really made a difference. Since then though those two cats were taken (RIP) but we got the claw crew that you see now. We have only a small rodent issue now cause of these cats. Love them.
@@HiddenSpringFarm I was raised on a small family farm in Northern Idaho. We had 2milk cows, horses, pigs and chickens. Field mice were always in the grain bin, but, the cats did help. Fields of crops, and a big hay barn. I miss the animals. They are very smart. I love watching how you interact with all the animals. I am sure they appreciate everything. Except maybe the geeze, who are defensive (haha). Enjoy the Springtime and enjoy the animals. They are our friends.
Nancy from Oregon here. I've lost several cats over the years to predators in this rural area. A few years ago were lost two in one night to a cougar. It was standing about 100 feet from the house, outside the fence. The cats can easily go through the wire fence, but the dog cannot. It's most to prevent deer from eating our garden. We don't have livestock or animal feed, but we have a large garden that we want to eat ourselves. We've had a gopher problem here for decades, and the cats and dog help keep the numbers down. We also lost two cats at different times to a coyote that was prowling around during the day. It was alone, with no pack at all. Not long ago we lost two turkeys in a completely enclosed (covered) pen. One was killed, and the other was mostly eaten. My brother thinks it was probably a bobcat. A few years ago we had a weasel problem, and over the course of about three weeks it had several murder sprees where it killed but didn't eat our chickens. It eventually killed all 27 of them. Needless to say, we revamped the chicken house with a concrete floor so weasels couldn't dig in. The weasels we have here can get through a hole about one inch in diameter,, so it's hard to prevent them from getting in. We do our best to keep our animals safe by keeping them in at night, but sometimes it just isn't enough..
Having lost two of my cats to predators I never let them out all night. I know they enjoy the evenings. But they are so good about coming in at bedtime and they are safe to enjoy another day.
It’s very sad to lose a cat to predators. We’ve lost 4 in 4 years thats basically why I started training the cats to come in. It works 99% of the time but there still are some days when a cat just won’t come in no matter what I do…it’s usually Tango.
Great job appreciating and taking care of your claw crew. 😍 If your shy semi-feral cats have a window or small catio they may improve faster. We found this helped a lot with our adopted shelter cat’s level of stimulation and interaction. Also finding a non-threatening way to play with him and hand feeding tasty treats! As you know, socializing shy cats takes time and patience. It’s great to see how much you care about and respect all your animals. 🏆 👏
Thank you so much. I think soon I’ll be setting Chewie free, he’s not where I want him to be and I can’t even get a collar on him so I can’t even track him but the reality is he can’t stay locked up forever waiting for me to feel confident letting him free. I may bring Bubbles home though cause she’s still too shy.
Thank you for the lovely video, i love cats x seeing them having such a good life with you x your wife. So glad you keep them shut in safe at night. The whole set up is wonderful.
Thankyou for locking cats up by night time. When I was young, and lived on a farm, my mom made my brother and I lock our two cats up in the garage at night. I’m glad we did!😊 I like your show. Your doing a good job.
I watch your channel all the time , like many of your ideas and structures, but the geese stay in the farm is a miracle, they are wild and can fly and don’t like human and they eat grass and the idea they protect ducks is very wild
i really don't think they can fly. They are Embden geese and I've only ever seen they try to fly a few inches off the ground. They are indeed very protective of their own.
What a fantastic graduation day it was! I feel blessed to be able to follow along with your crew. Maybe Bubbles does need to be at home with you guys for a little while for some two on one. She seems so very different than the others that she may end up being a house kitty 🐈⬛
Mr Hidden spring farm it is funny that you are saying the same thing while disagreeing, but the magical word was killing rodents not eating them, because they are full
LOL Mango and Tango are two of your young kids. You let them out to play in the backyard for the first time and you expect them to come when you call them 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 BIG FAT CHANCE. What are U? NEW!!! 😁😁 They is going to ignore you like human children 🤣🤣 Well done 👍👍👍. Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
Haha I thought they’d have to be left outside overnite for sure, I even told my Darlin to be prepared that I can’t get em back in. But the crew proved me wrong and kinda found their way back in following the other cats. 2 days now they’ve been out and 2 days they came back to the catio by themselves. 😆
Love barn cats ❤ a great way to start letting them used to going outside is by witholding food the night before.. then when you are about to release them you should show them the food and let them smell it.. oh and preferably have it be some good wet food that gives off an enticing smell.. once you open the cage they will follow you outside so you can feed them.. once they finish eating they will realize they are outside the gates and will more than likely groom themselves and find a spot to lay down in the shade for some sleep.. thats just a great way to remind them where home is ❤.. anyways great video..
you are so NOT accurate, the cats defend the surrounding area...including the barns. Chickens will kill mice too in any case. They catch mice, moles, voles, shrews, chipmunks etc. I have lots of video evidence to prove it.
Mr hidden spring farm geese are migratory birds you only see them in America around fair weather and exposed grass and thawed water and during the snow season, you don’t see them and they eat grass like cows
Beautiful cats 🐈 🐈⬛🐱. Way back in the early 70s when I was in high school I had a friend who parents owned a small bakery. We used to get free buns from where they were baked. They had a few cats running round working as mice exterminators 😂. I don't think that would be allowed now 😅. 🐁🚫
That was a great system I’m sure lots of goodies for any rodents to feast on but the cats wound out the fear into them. You’re right though Nowadays someone would cry that’s it’s insanitary or something.
Hello Chad. I am new to your channel. I love your Catio. Well done for building it. It is always nice to see the cat menagerie. Mom cat will always help the kittens, to make sure that they are home safe. Thank you so much for sharing. Love and Blessings to you all. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘 ❤❤❤❤
Welcome to the farm. It was a great day filming the cats and they all did good. I was so happy when they all just came back at the end it was almost like they knew to do so. I was stressing out that they would have to be left unprotected overnite. Thanks for the kind words and we’ll see you around. Cheers
That’s awesome, they’re great to have on the farm. Love it. We’ll be working on something or gardening and all of a sudden a cat or two is just chilling beside us. Fozzy’s so funny too eh, if he’s off by himself somewhere he’ll start to cry like a cat wailing cause he doesn’t want to be alone then I’ll call him and he’ll slowly come over. 😆
Haha “Tulugan Na!” It’s means “ go to bed” in Tagalog. Since my wife is from the Philippines I’d thought it’d be funny. It’s like training for them to come back to their house if they were on a big pond or something.

They are animals after all, cats are not going to tell you what are thinking and cats unlike dogs don’t do or follow any commands and history shows cats bite and even even eat their owner if he die and go in hiding before they die and you will eventually know that
Again I have to kind of disagree. While our cats cannot follow the same type of commands, cats can most certainly be trained. I call our crew every evening by name and they all come back to the cat house as they are somewhat trained to do so. They do like to ignore us sometimes but still come back when I call. I’ve also heard of dogs and cats eating their dead owners when locked in a house starving for days. Just remember every situation is different.
A dog will eat the owner too if left starving with his dead owner. I have no idea who started this myth of dogs not eating their dead owners. Also, cats don't bite unless threatened, while dogs do! Haven't just heard it, but seen it! Forget cat or dogs, the people too resort to such a behavior when left in a dire situation. Remember Andes survivors? 🤷♀

I like that
Best non toxic rodent control solution… nature.. cats.. and best enjoyment for us 😊
Couldn't agree more!
He can hear but he’s not listening that mango 😂
This cat family is very sweet 😃
maggie and bubbles are my fave!
Who takes care of whom more? The animals depend on us, and in return they help us out in so many ways. 🙌❤️🙌

Yeah me too I really miss her and none of these cats are anything like her. They’re all great in their own way but not like my Stormy.

You guys were doing it right way back then. I wish I had done it earlier and my Stormy was still riding my shoulders. Thanks for the comment ✌️
@@HiddenSpringFarm Sorry for your loss, but you WILL see Stormy again in heaven. Looking forward to see your next video.

It is kind a strange that the cats don’t hunt the mice in the chickens cage where the majority of the mice problems are located

Your videos showing your cats don’t listen to you and my cats don’t listen to me and you say they do , they do when they want to
its still daylight! why did you lock them back in the Catio?
This question is not related to this video, but whenever you call the ducks and geese in for the evening, what is that word you keep calling out with?
Haha “Tulugan Na!” It’s means “ go to bed” in Tagalog. Since my wife is from the Philippines I’d thought it’d be funny. It’s like training for them to come back to their house if they were on a big pond or something.
No offense, but cats vs pigs? Pigs have 10x the funniness of cats.
Why would I take offence? Pigs are super fun I agree, never said they weren’t ✌️
What is that around there neck
Oh I have apple air tag trackers on all the cats so I can try to know where they are.
Why not move Bubbles and Chewy in with all the other cats that way they’ll socialise and learn at the same time from senior cats
They were living with them since birth and I am trying to train them to be a bit less feral. The two are not like the others and I just needed more time with them.
