    From the Batman wiki:
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini have stated that they would not have made the episode in which he appears if West had turned down the part, as they feared he would be offended by an animated parody of the typecasting he reportedly suffered in his later career. West, however, was happy to voice the character.
Also aside from West, George Reeves of Superman fame also suffered in typecasting.

Adam West also parodied his typecasting in the episode "Fearless Ferret" in _Kim Possible._ It manages to spoof _Batman '66, Batman Beyond,_ and Tim Burton's _Batman_ simultaneously, as well as Raimi's _Spider-Man,_ the TVLand Channel and more.

Glad you’re enjoying this on you own time. IMO, the late 80s, all the 90s, and the early 0’0s were the golden years of television with animated shows, movies, and sitcoms. Almost every show, movies, or sitcoms that came out were all bangers because true passion and love went into their creations.
Batman TAS was the beginning of the DCAU so if you want you can go down the rabbit hole by watching Superman TAS next, followed by Justice League TAS, Static Shock after the first season of JL, then Justice League Unlimited, and finally Batman Beyond to finish off the journey.

This is my all-time favorite BTAS episode. I watched it just after Kevin Conroy passed away & it hit so hard. Two iconic Batmen in the same episode, Adam West & Kevin Conroy - both of whom are no longer with us.
It portrayed Simon Trent as an ex-actor typecasted so perfectly, I wonder if that's how Adam West felt after the 1966 Batman series ended. I also loved the ending, it spoke to all of us 90s kids watching Batman TAS with dads who grew up watching the Adam West 1966 Batman.

Adam West, who voices the Gray Ghost, played Batman in the 1960s. The production crew have stated that they wanted West as soon as they had read the script, but were concerned "he'd be offended because of the content." West, however, was happy to voice the character. "It was great to have this aging hero play this aging hero," noted Eric Radomski.

This episode is so poignant because it deals with fandom in a healthy way and the way fandom can really make you into a better person as a result. Most media portray fandom as a bad thing, fans are creeps and that sort of thing. But to make Batman be a fanboy perfectly encapsulates how we feel when we talk about Batman and explains it to the casuals and I’m sure everyone watching wishes they could’ve told Kevin that.

The sad part of this episode is that this was before Family Guy. After Batman went off the air, Adam West DID have a hard time finding roles. He WAS typecast as Batman. His IMDB has a ton of "1 episode" guest star roles or TV movies, unless he's playing some kind of Batman. Lots of his roles were as "Adam West" or as stunt casting on other superhero or genre shows. His biggest thing was voice acting, when again, it was a lot of guest spots like this one. This episode was Bruce Timm and the DCAU paying a real, heartfelt tribute to their childhood Batman.

I get nostalgic because I used to play the PS2 game that was based on it. It’s definitely one of the darker variations of the team. I hear it gets the most right from the comics too. I loved Mutant Mayhem & I just bought The Last Ronin from Barnes & Noble this past week because I heard so much hype about it.

One of my top three favorite episodes. At 10:45, I love seeing the shadow of Batman behind the Gray Ghost in the picture. The best big nod to this episode was in Batman Beyond where he helped Terry fight Inque in the Batcave and to partially protect his identity, wore the original Gray Ghost fedora and glasses. An elderly superhero who still loves and embodies his childhood superhero, badass.

this in my top ten btas episodes it is so good and the gray ghost theme is so good I also like how they showcase what actors who get typecasted go through from not getting roles because they are seen for one role and is not getting a chance and if that role is no longer popular it can ruin the actor. Power rangers is an example although it is still going for the longest time actors feared that it would ruin their careers that is why some left the show put of the fear of being typecasted

That's doubled by the fact that Adam West was my childhood hero and my inspiration for getting into Batman."

That whole retroactive nostalgia thing is exactly what I got watching One Piece for the first time last year. I got into anime in 2014, and watched everything I could find. By 2016 I was pretty much only watching the occasional seasonal anime series. When Blind Wave put out the first reaction to One Piece last year, I realised that for one reason or another it was a show that I never bothered with, and decided to give it a go. Cut to 4 months later, I'd binged all 1025 episodes and caught up with the manga, and it was genuinely some of the most fun I've ever had regarding anything media related.

Oh man, it's finally here. One of the best episodes of the show. This episode had an amazing meta effect. You note that the Mad Bomber's (who was modeled after Timm) obsession with the Gray Ghost and Bruce's love for him helped bring this out-of-work washed up character actor that they loved back into grace and got him working again. In real life, Timm's love for the old Batman show helped bring the character back into popularity. And in real life, it help bring Adam West back into grace and get him working again. West had fallen out of favor in Hollywood and was just "that guy who was Batman", and in the grim dark era of 90s comics, his campy Batman wasn't seen favorably in the comics world either. But this episode turned that around. It did the same thing for the actor in real life that it did for the character he played.

I used to watch it every night when it aired on the nick-at-nite part of nickelodeon. they would air 2 eps a night, since that batman show always did two part episodes, with every other ep ending on a cliffhanger, at 10pm and 10:30 (if i remember right).
Because of this when it got to this ep, i knew his voice immediately. whioch just made me fall in love with this ep.
also, my favorite dirty harry film was actually The Dead Pool, which also features a villain killing people with RC cars with bombs in them. so that made me like this ep more, too.

what a good and emotional episode guys! We have two Batman in this chapter. the physical that we see that we already know, and the one that is in the voice and within the soul of the Gray Ghost. This moment was unique where we heard the voice of the legendary Adam West, the first Batman of almost modern times. I tell you something interesting this chapter was based on what happened to Adam West with his Batman that he was not going to do the same, that they were going to modernize it. this was true. This happened when he was not chosen or called to play Batman in Tim Burton's first feature film. he he wanted to be Batman. but in his place Michael Keaton was chosen, he could not be. I think if you look there is an interview that he gave at 89 West where he talks about the Tim Burton movie and the vision of that Batman and why he couldn't be the famous Bat anymore. What's more, the production offers him the possibility of making a cameo. a small part in the film as Bruce Wayne's father in Batman 89 for him to be, but he turned down the cameo. but it is seen that years later they called him again for Batman the Animated Series and they give us these moments. The episode deals with the inspiration and admiration of one hero for the other and that this hero who stayed behind in time and they don't call him anymore, well in the scene where he talks on the phone and they reject him or something, he starts to get crazy and shoot things and breaking things there I realize what Adam West felt. because West and Keaton had something in common both were not serious actors, they were recognized for being comedy actors. But when Keaton was there and when he changed all the tonality of his Batman and doing it seriously, it changed everything and it is the modern Batman that opened his legacy so that other actors can be Batman. but the Gray Ghost stayed in time as West's Batman where people moved away from that comic and funny version to be with the modern and dark version that we know today by Keaton and Burton. but hey it was exciting to watch this episode. Color fact: in the Failed Batman and Robin 1997 movie they wanted to return something similar to what West's Batman was but modernize it but it didn't work for the movie and it failed. beyond this this was a amazing episode

On typecasting, The Rock has pretty much been on default since he started doing the Fast movies a dozen years ago. Once he found his footing him Hollywood he stood firm, like a Rock...a really giant Rock because that's when he started getting extra huge.

I pretended to be asleep to be carried. My dad used to do the paper route and he'd take me with him early in the morning. When he finished it was usually 5 or 6 am after being woken up at 1 or 2 am. After being alseep in the car, you don't want to get up. Didn't work when I was 11 but you know, still tried.

10:24 - Is it just me, or does anyone else think that seems very reminiscent of the Batman Beyond logo font (big, tall, bold first word over smaller, squashed word, all in blood red), just less futuristic? Wonder if someone working on that show someone thought back to this and was inspired by it.

The comments about the Rock reminded me of something I saw during a discussion of Peacemaker. The Rock has reached the point in his career where he just plays himself on screen, while John Cena plays characters and stretches himself more in the roles.

The Rock is arguably the most popular, but John Cena & Batista definitely have more range with roles in TMNT, Peacemaker, GOTG, Dune, Blade Runner 2049, & Glass Onion.
