Unless you need/want a manual, the base is the best. I have had both a base and a 2S 992, and the 2S is a beast but the base just feels more balanced. The S has TON of torque and it can handle it but it feels like too much. I wish you could get the manual on the base, thats the only reason to get an S, IMHO.
The drive for constant progress really is silly these days. I get why Porsche have to do it, but 110K for a ‘sports car’ is crazy. This thing offers supercar performance and quite frankly, it doesn’t need to. Cars need to be lighter, simpler, and cheaper with less tech.
I have sold a base 997 and a 9974s both for a bit more than what I paid. I picked up 991s Cabriolet in ruby red metallic as a great opportunity came up and I only had to invest a bit extra to get it.
Great video and honest review. I really like this 992 and love the new look rear end. I would certainly be very happy with the entry level but I agree the price is too much.
I have a 997.2 and I feel like it holds its value well. But the new Porsches will not hold their value as a percentage of purchase price. If in the USA, 997s are 30-50,K and 991s are 40-60K used (40,000 miles say), then sure 992s will settle in at between 50-70K second hand in 3 years. They are worth more, but also not as DIY friendly. That aspect will quickly knock value off as they run out of warranty. 997s are not scary to own secondhand, but each generation ties you more and more to the dealer and then high end mechanics. Not fun. There are options, like would you drop 70K on a new C8 Corvette with warranty, or the same money on a out of warranty 992 that will cost 5K a year to maintain...and lose more and more value. I'd be torn if I didn't already have a 997, I tend to keep cars forever like my 91 BMW M5. But The market will dictate the "hold it's value" reputation of 911s, and I think they are turning in to Audi style depreciation vehicles lately.
@@leemarshall3649 perhaps we have to see out of warranty 992's prices before we can tell if I was truly wrong. But at the moment it looks like the 2020 992 prices are all 125k and up.

Not being able to see the sat nav is NOT a minor gripe, it’s a gaping chasm of a design floor!! Along with that RIDICULOUS PDK “gear” stick and removal of the amazing cup holders. What are Porsche thinking, especially given the price tag!!!!
@@eddiegray793 Before buying my 997, I test drove the then called Cayman S (now known as a 718). That car was brilliant in terms of its handling with the mid engined layout and, to be honest better than the 997 in that respect. But funnily enough, as highlighted by Ped, it was the extra +2 seats that persuaded me to go for the 997.
The Carrera 4S clocks in at 3.4s. That is supercar territory. It is going to be hard to turn down the proposition of owning a 911. When well taken care off they also are reliable, more reliable than the other easily broken BMWs, Mercs and Audis
Sorry, petrol pup stole the show within 2 minutes.....”follow me”. A few design flaws on the interior. Dials obscured by steering wheel & having to use touchscreen rather than buttons/knobs to change driving dynamics potentially quite dangerous while driving. Another great video 👍🏻

I took delivery of my 992 C4S Oct 15, and have done 6,200 miles on it. Winter tires allow superb driving in snow and ice, and the wet mode actually does what they say it will do. In wet mode, it also transfers some of the rear wheel power to the front, closes the front flaps, adjusts the wing accordingly, lowers the RPM, and makes for a much safer car in the wet. I have rear steering, front lift, 360 camera, steering plus, colored belts, tach and sport Chrono. Basically, I’ve done everything to this that I could throw at it, and it just teases me for more. The standard brakes are phenomenal. I could go on, but this is really quite the car. And good review, Pete. I’ve been driving Porsches for 40+ years and all have been manuals. I’m now 74 years old, have extensive racing experience but, if I stay with 911, my next one will be a PDK. Just beginning to think of physical issues as I age further. However, I’m seriously considering a GT4.........even less than a 911 2S and it’s a GT car. It definitely a very hard decision. I’ll decide next year when the PDK GT4 becomes available. Love your channel!
Thanks, great review, fast becoming a favourite for honest down to earth car culture. Might be a generational thing, but the millennials are wearing very thin now.
The rear wing is to make the car go faster. Bernoulli's principle principle predicts that the decrease in pressure is associated with an increase in speed, i.e. that as the air passes over the wing it speeds up and moves faster than it was moving when it left the demonstrator's mouth. Physics 101
Thanks for a very sensible and comprehensive review. I will however stick to my Boxster with it’s mid engine and top down experience - I know it’s a few years old but a fraction of £109,000 Porsche want for your test car. I must be getting old and sensible !
I owned a 997 Carrera 2 S drop top. Best car I have ever owned and driven by a long way (compared to an Aston Martin, BMWs, AMG Mercs and a Macan and Cayenne) and I wish I had not sold it. As you say PP it is not until you drive a 911 that you appreciate how good they are but I also share your concern about the increasing cost of buying one. My 997 cost me late £60s to buy in 2011 and I sold it two years later for late £50's with around 15k miles on the clock. I would love to have the 992 but the inconvenient truth is I would have to spend nearly double the 997 and cannot afford one...and I do not think it is worth double the money.
Nice video. I think these days the list price is not much of consideration in the world of finance.. it will be how much how much per month? I love 911 as own a classic the 992 is just gorgeous!
Good ‘real world ‘ review ...but have to agree with you as to the price.... manufacturers now seem to be aiming solely at the lease market and and such prices are getting a bit ridiculous.
Love the way you present enthusiastic yet balanced reviews instead of just gushing over a car. Beautiful car by the way (think I`d have been gushing) 👍
Not really or I would have bought one. Instead I bought a 3 year, 1 month old extremely well optioned 991.1 GTS with a mere 157 kms (98 miles) on it. The 3.8 liter normally aspirated engine plus the 7-speed manual did it. As for which 911 is fastest (GT3, GT3 RS, GT 2 RS, etc), more than 99% of owners including me could not drive them to the limit, or we all would have knocks on our doors from Porsche asking us to race them for them.
The 2s WAS I think till they announced the 2925 Carrera GTS CABRIO. For not that much more$ you get a911 that can drop 60mph in under 3s.. No turbo lag. With the IGNOU turn off to some making the dash all digital... Will it still be readable in sunlight?? Want to"Dave" roughly $10k USD then buy the 2S.. still does most of what the 2025 GTS can and your still get the analogue tach... I'm the end these are STREET cars driven by guys with at best average street driving only still... Driven to say I MADE IT!!: Status...... It to say I HAVE WEALTHY PARENTS!!
Audi RS Completely different cars, the boxster is a mid engine 2 seater sports car, the m4 is a front engine coupe and the 911 is a rear engine 2+2 sports car. Your comment clearly shows your lack of knowledge on driving.
Both excellent. 2S it just a bit more delicate and sharp but doesn’t have the security of the 4S with its AWD. 992 is an amazing platform if it’s in budget. 991.2 is pretty good too to be fair 👌
@@PetrolPed I had a rear wheel Panamera and on the odd occasion the back end would slip out, but that had over 600nm torque. How does the 992 2s deal with this, same delicacy?
The 991.2 Carrera T would probably be the sweet spot for me personally (can't wait for the 992 version of the T). I guess that's why the 911 sells so well - it can be a pure sports car (Carrera T), a great all-round daily sports car (Carrera S/Turbo S) or a complete track-weapon (GT3 & GT3RS). Great video as usual Pete!
992 C4S is the best Everyday car more so in the uk with the wet and crappy weather we get.. But if my numbers come up on the £50million the new 992 Turbo S would be my choice lol £100k plus more than the C4S but Dreams are free lol
Surely the point is that the C2S is not special enough for that money? You can buy an almost new Aston DB11 with a 4K miles on the clock for that, and not feel like you’re driving round in a sharpened up £70k car. The 991.2 GTS was that kind of money from factory. Basically, you can’t buy this car even second-hand in case someone sees you in it- and speculates you bought it new, and therefore have more money than sense. Also, are you not a bit bored of the phrase ‘driver’s car’? That phrase used to refer to a vehicle that was purely about the engaging driving experience- not fashion, value, practicality etc. Now it is used to vaguely mean ‘a good car’. Or, I dare I say, ‘a nice car’. We want to know how the car makes you feel, how does it test you, improve your life, and how good is its manual gearbox? At least Porsche aren’t piping in canned engine noise through the speakers yet.
Last Monday I was lucky enough to be invited by Porsche to drive ‘the Range’ at Silverstone - currently have a 718GTS so looking at 992 s 2wd or 4wd. Firstly nothing in the rest of the Porsche range can match the 992, but my conclusion was 2wd was the sweet spot.
I'm not really a fan of the "well speced" or "fully loaded" cars. I love the pure driving and a Carrera T, rear wheel drive with a manual gearbox is what I "need" :) if a 911 is the choice. If not, I would go for the new 718 Cayman GT4 :)
Great video! £109k though!! for 40% of that you could get all the smiles and a fraction of the depreciation with a 997.2 C4S. Full disclosure, I am biased and am trying to rally support for the gen 2 997 being one of the best cars to buy right now :) Would have a 992 also if the wallet allowed, love the styling inside and out!
Hi Ped Another great video, and welcome back to the super star PUPS🥰🥰🥰 As a very fortunate owner of 991 (Gen1) Carrera 4 S Cabrio, I find the comparison very interesting. I have always maintained the Carrera is most useable as a daily driver, great build and reliability so far! My pet hate is the dash, unable to view the Two outer dials. Price would be an issue on the 992, but for half the price one could find a 991 at half the price.
I've recently bought a 991.2 c4s with a sports exhaust and it's decent. Before I had a 2017 ftype R which had a nuts exhaust. So forgive me but the opf filtered 992 sports exhaust sounds like a disappointing option.
Great review thanks !About to press the button on base 992 Carrera - like you say the options add up. Are you going to do a drive in the base version ?
Actually you are Dead Wrong about options and residuals, the most highly optioned Porsches depreciate the most.......once I drive a manual version back to back both with and without rear steering then I will know what's what.......PDK GT3's are all over the market now and are depreciating, if you own or bought one enjoy, but without 3 pedals who cares - and who will care in 20 years..........?
Slick well judged and delivers everything you require, the review that is ! Masterful review sir, as for the 992 - a perfect summary - I’ll be watching this again 👍
Want to have THE MOST fun driving: Save your money, buy a used Miata. They handle and provide the BEST DRIVING FUN EVER. Of course this doesn’t apply to larger people like 6’5” and 250+ lbs.
Sorry but the ‘little duck tail spoiler’ as you refer to it, is not a duck tail. There are many versions of the duck tail, including Porsche Classic, that have been adapted to every 911 variant after the original fitment on the RS and G body. Mostly they look pretty good. However, this 992 rear spoiler is downright fugly. When open it looks as though someone has forgotten to close the trunk or boot whatever dialect suits you. It is an abominable fail from an aesthetic design perspective.
I have a 991.1 with the original N/A engine I saw a 992 on the road a couple of days ago and yeah, it’s nice but I am more than happy with what I have got
Best video I’ve seen on the base 911 (and I’ve sat through almost all of them) - practical and informative. Well paced and interesting throughout. Well done!
911, have loved the look since i was a kid in the 80’s. The new C8 Corvette, 2 weeks in, already getting tired of the design with it’s pointy little plastic pieces and it’s fat ass, lol.
Nice review. Not sure how anyone can ever justify spending this kind of money on, what is essentially, a toy tho. However, trump, boris, the weather, the world does seem increasingly bizzare to me. 🤔😥

Have you ever driven a mid engined Porsche like the Cayman GTS 4.0? If not it may change your mind?
Yes I have. Cayman probably the best car Porsche make 👍
I owned a 997 Carrera 2 S drop top.
That is the point I was making 😪
great review, 911 will always be the car what other sports cars are judged by
Nice video. I think these days the list price is not much of consideration in the world of finance.. it will be how much how much per month? I love 911 as own a classic the 992 is just gorgeous!
I am think once the C8 is being produced in numbers, things are going to change in this segment, hurrying a 911 EV or all electric sooner than later.
Good job tks ...Will c8 bite into 911 sales ?
Wow!!!! Over 100 thousand with the extras... beautiful car though... I’ll stick with my £7000 westfield. Gutted !! X
$181,000 US here... ruclips.net/video/Q6L3bz_H1GQ/видео.html
I try very hard to be balanced 👍
Great video again mate. What a loverly car. One day perhaps.. 🤔
Absolutely 👍
The thud at 5:35 is one of the greatest sounds ever recorded, you can actually hear the Porsche quality.
GTS...great car 👏
If you are going to get a PDK then just get the base Carrera. Get a tune for the extra power. Add some options.
Good plan 👍
I’d probably get a Boxster, the 911 is just too expensive these days.
Steve Daire boxster is a poor mans 911 May as well buy an M4 if ur gonna get a boxster .
Audi RS wow your idea of what constitutes poor is so far out of whack it’s actually insulting
Audi RS Completely different cars, the boxster is a mid engine 2 seater sports car, the m4 is a front engine coupe and the 911 is a rear engine 2+2 sports car. Your comment clearly shows your lack of knowledge on driving.
Steve Daire he said poor mans 911 he didn't say poor mans car . Everything is relative my friend,
997.2 S or GT3 for me, manual of course.
Hello pal. I have to admit I don’t know the differences. You are sooooo lucky. I do love it’s duck tail.
Would you recommend this car today in 2023? I'm tempted to go for one of these as a 2S or a 991.2 4S. Which would you opt for?
Cheers Harry 👍
omg i love your schnauzer, we are big car guy and girl and our schnauzer go everywhere with us
Best dogs in the world 👍
992 C4S is the best Everyday car more so in the uk with the wet and crappy weather we get..
But if my numbers come up on the £50million the new 992 Turbo S would be my choice lol £100k plus more than the C4S but
Dreams are free lol
Keep buying those tickets and you never know. I would like four wheel drive too 👍
@@PetrolPed
yeah in the uk it's a must on that type of car
If they do i will let you know and you could test my 992 Turbo S lol
Agreed. I did one of those days once and found it great to drive the 2WD and 4WD back to back 👍
Hello… which level of the white thats 992…?
I'm not really a fan of the "well speced" or "fully loaded" cars. I love the pure driving and a Carrera T, rear wheel drive with a manual gearbox is what I "need" :) if a 911 is the choice. If not, I would go for the new 718 Cayman GT4 :)
New GT4 and Spyder look awesome 👏
Great video! £109k though!! for 40% of that you could get all the smiles and a fraction of the depreciation with a 997.2 C4S. Full disclosure, I am biased and am trying to rally support for the gen 2 997 being one of the best cars to buy right now :) Would have a 992 also if the wallet allowed, love the styling inside and out!
Good luck with your quest 😜
Over priced
Interested in your view 911/992 4S ( or turbo s ) Vs RS6
Just waiting for a date to get the Turbo S 👍
Hi Ped
Another great video, and welcome back to the super star PUPS🥰🥰🥰 As a very fortunate owner of 991
(Gen1) Carrera 4 S Cabrio, I find the comparison very interesting. I have always maintained the Carrera is
most useable as a daily driver, great build and reliability so far! My pet hate is the dash, unable to view the
Two outer dials. Price would be an issue on the 992, but for half the price one could find a 991 at half
the price.
Thought you might like this one 👍
Hi Peter I managed to have a trip out in my friends 911 Turbo s went like s..t off a shovel beast of a car👍🏁🧽
Mega cars 👏
Nice very Nice...ld most definitely would have one.
I've recently bought a 991.2 c4s with a sports exhaust and it's decent. Before I had a 2017 ftype R which had a nuts exhaust. So forgive me but the opf filtered 992 sports exhaust sounds like a disappointing option.
It sounds louder than the 991 gen2. Are you shouting a little?
A little 😜
Great review, my choice would be the Carrera 4S Cabriolet
They are lovely 👌
Crayon is growing on me........
Great review thanks !About to press the button on base 992 Carrera - like you say the options add up. Are you going to do a drive in the base version ?
No plans at the moment but you never know 👍
Actually you are Dead Wrong about options and residuals, the most highly optioned Porsches depreciate the most.......once I drive a manual version back to back both with and without rear steering then I will know what's what.......PDK GT3's are all over the market now and are depreciating, if you own or bought one enjoy, but without 3 pedals who cares - and who will care in 20 years..........?
Slick well judged and delivers everything you require, the review that is ! Masterful review sir, as for the 992 - a perfect summary - I’ll be watching this again 👍
I'll take that from Mr Porsche 👍
9:33 shows off the stunning 993 like arches and that classic hood. It's stunning in person, cant wait to order the standard Carrera.
Sure is a car with presence 👍
Thought the exact same thing. Looks good.
One of the best dual clutch transmissions? No question in my opinion that it's THE best!
McLaren is pretty good 😜
109 pounds and you're complaining? My 4S comes in at $185 USD... welcome to 2020
Don't drive this eurotrash, a Mustang GT 500 has 760 hp a real mans drivers car
Great until you get to a corner 😜😂
You know there are countries outside the US right?
Hi Pete
Hi Mate 👋
Great review. Looks like I need to start saving. What are your thoughts with regards to how it compares to R8. Would it be a difficult choice?
I live with every day I go for this, but for performance you would need to go for the Turbo to keep up with the R8 👍
Want to have THE MOST fun driving: Save your money, buy a used Miata. They handle and provide the BEST DRIVING FUN EVER. Of course this doesn’t apply to larger people like 6’5” and 250+ lbs.
Driven one and agree they are great 👍
Sorry but the ‘little duck tail spoiler’ as you refer to it, is not a duck tail.
I bet you are 👍👏
Turbos suck. 991.1 is way better. Sounds better too.
Best video I’ve seen on the base 911 (and I’ve sat through almost all of them) - practical and informative. Well paced and interesting throughout. Well done!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Purists haven’t been happy for two decades
Ever since ‘98
Purists are NEVER happy. Misery is their lot in life.
Great video as usual. But my favourite bit was the petrol pup following you at the beginning 😄
I though she might steel the show 😂
Not sure how I missed this review!? But wow what a great looking and sounding car! Definitely not a price range for me but a 911 turbo is definitely a dream car. This version of a 911 is just cool. That spoiler was cool. Great review sir Pete!!
patiently waiting for the GTS or the Turbo variants...
Aren't we all 😂
I'd get 991.2 GTS and spend the rest of money on cocaine for investment and educational purpose of course.
