    So many are saying use the Max lens mod.
    What they are not taking into account is that in Max lens mode you can only film 2.7k 60 fps. Also the lens mode is wide or maxed superview.
    This would allow you to use different settings like linear, narrow, 4k, 5k, 2.7k 120fps etc.
    The price though is a bit steep but depends on your needs and what the client wants who you film for.

    This is super cool, and the footage looks super good, just some thoughts.
    Hero 9 has horizon leveling built-in, and it seems to work very well. This does limit the field of view a bit, but while the hero 9 is the heaviest GoPro, I can only assume it would be lighter than the camera/gimble setup.

    For those asking about the MAX LENS MOD: It's really amazing, BUT the two main problems with the Max Lens Mod is lack of ND filters and if you want to use Horizon Lock, you have to use Hypersmooth (can't use ReelSteady) and are stuck with Sub-4K footage; I didn't buy the Hero 9 to be limited to 2.7k.😕 It has it's place, but honestly, you get so much more versatility with the gimbal, and it's not that much more expensive.

  • @AerialWaviator
    @AerialWaviator 3 года назад

    Instead of driving RC car in straight line (back and forth) you need to have it run on a closed loop track with a number of corners (perhaps some spray paint on the snow in a field to create a track?). The tight changes in direction (not necessary higher speed) will produce roll that you're trying to hide with the gimbal.
    See what you going for and keeping wide FOV, vs trading to get a stabilized result. Keep experimenting, love your thought process! :)

  • @simonececcarelli5601
    @simonececcarelli5601 3 года назад

    Hi Nurk,
    I like a lot to watch your videos.
    I like to try new tools and make experiments like you (but I'm a new to the FPV world). I'm trying to make an experiment to use a DJI Pocket 2 on an FPV Drone. I think one of the problem of chasing an object using a fixed camera, is how fast the object goes. The degress of the cam changes on how you want to go fast the quad. If the object change its speed during the shot, the quad can't go at same speed without changing its angle. Less angle=less speed, but the cam goes to pointing up. So you have to get less altitude to get the object inside your shot. With a 3 axis gimble you can block the tilt of the cam and change the speed without any problem. Otherwise if you want to chenge the angle of view you can't do it. With the DJI Pocket 2 you can have the same results of a one axis, just settings the gimbal in follow mode. Just saying. You are the best. ;-)

    Thanks for the great video. I've been looking at the Quark for mountain biking and have been trying out the new Insta360 leveling feature. It works great, but for MTB, definitely the FOV is too close in. It loses that speed factor that mimics reality when using a wide FOV. The "Loam Ranger" uses the Quark and his footage is fantastic if you have not seen it in the mountain bike context. He does a great video on the Quark for MTB. Here's my question, since you seem to be more in-tune with the gear side of things, do you think that it is just a matter of time (like 5 years or so?) before digital can accomplish what the Quark does, or is it a physical lens issue in being able to capture the frame without too much fish-eye distortion or lens size? Either way, I'm going to pick up the Quark, but just curious about that. Not sure in the action camera realm if they will have that capability as a physical limitation or a software/sensor limitation that will eventually be overcome. My knowledge is limited about lens capability on these action cams and thought you might have some ideas. (Sorry if it's in the comments, there are so many!!) Thanks again for the video, new subscriber!

    Pretty satisfying. This would make gread filming footage for animals, documentaries, or b-roll. Definitely prefer raw, non-gimbal footage for action chasing.

    The example worked for sure and you probably could of shown that first lol. But my question is how good is the battery life on that single axis gimbal? I bought a different one made to hold phones and modified it then took it to west virginia snowshoe mountains for filming snowboarders but either the cold weather or the weight of the gopro or combination of the two kept killing the battery and it would just shut off. I plan to remove the gimbal battery and wire it to the fc so it runs off vbat and that should fix the issue but it's a very tedious process. The wires are so fine they can easily be broken. But once fixed with a connector it can make the use more practical especially in colder weather applications. Thanks for sharing the gimbal link. Gonna try it out

    Already waited for that video 😂. Looked really interesting when I saw it the first time! Has a lot benefits for filmmaking but if you want specific shots you need that standard gopro mount without gimbal but holy...this is soo great. As you tried to show, for chasing it’s just insane!

      I'm looki g forward to see it chasing something... Or flying down the mountain or something just to compare this set up to the standard one. But it looks and sound like it's not only it should give you more stable video at various angles but also make it a little bit easier for the pilots.... Will see how it will turn out... Great video and idea !

    I think this is a solid idea. And for everyone complaining about the price tag, supply and demand my friend. An injected part cost more than the plastic it's made of. A machined part cost more than the material as well. Tooling is expensive. If it became a very popular product the price would come down substantially with larger runs spreading the cost of tooling over hundreds of thousands of units. If viewed as a tool for 📽️ the current price is actually quite attractive. Great video.
    Edit: it also does time lapse pans. Little added value there.

    Run a dual receiver on the car (so that the same transmitter controls the steering on the car that also sends yaw/roll inputs to the drone's flight controller). Tune the mixing on the car's receiver so that it turns when the drone turns... now that would be interesting and seems doable.

    Well done video, as this does answer a few questions I had. When you break down the untamed quad animal flight characteristics, speaking of straight FPV rip vs cinematic quad. On some quad footage doing rips I do like to see a little prop wash just adds to the effect of the flight video...where cinematic quads you want the stable X/Y axis but not so quick that you overshoot the filming object and no prop wash to take attention away from the object you want noticed. So with that, what do you think is the best frame size for a cinematic quad build so give you stability while giving you a slightly slower flight but still be able to manuever quickly for direction changes say chasing an R/C car or another quad?

    Very interesting, nice build! I think is a little expensive, but in the context that you work making content this is a level higher. Worth more those $200 gimbal or gp9 + max lens with horizon lock and reelstedy for $150? Is the same effect?

    Does the gimbal effect your tune of the rig? I would imagine the extra shaking from the gimbal might effect how the rig flies, by creating more noise on the logs.

    Very cool. I like this look a lot better. I think this has a look for a chase scene in say a thriller movie where the bad guy is chasing a victim who escaped and is running for their life or some shot like that. It has so much fluidity that you could see the terror and action all at once

  • @2cool0

    i like it....if you used a three axis gimbal it makes it look too smooth. when you want some chase footage you kind of want it to be a little rugged. I think this offers the perfect balance between that and smoothness. it also makes it look like youre flying instead of floating which is a really nice look for something like this.

    I want one now! But I don't have 200€ bucks just laying around and don't know, whether RSGO would work with it as I only have a session 5 and that needs a really soft mount so no vibrations come through...

      @@NURKFPV
      Actually am still fine with the session 5, when I thought of getting a newer one I always ended up with a new quad instead 😂😂
      For normal Videos it is good enough, weight isn't that much, no big screen to break and often I fly without one, because most Videos I wouldn't watch later and so I get +1min flight time 😇
      Designed myself a Rs-Go mount that I can put between the Quad and the GoPro when I need it and take of if I do freestyle, works pretty fine 😊
      And instead of spending the money on a GoPro I rather have a new class of quad. Began with two 5", bought a Cinewhoop, next was a 5" Racer, then a 3" 250g one, a Tinywhoop for indoors and now a 40g 3" for the park closer to people. Money is better spend on quads than on a GoPro at the moment 🙃😉
      But GoPro upgrade will come too, I know myself 😜
