They also kinda fucked up the whole plot point of "The kid was gonna survive that crash even if you didnt push him out of the way so you died for nothing Yusuke" by having the most violent vehicular manslaughter ive ever seen depicted
Also it kinda makes it more stupid and infuriating seeing a whole bunch of people running and the kid just sits there like a deer in headlights when in the manga he doesn't see the car till he's saved.
Speaking of vehicular manslaughter, the fact that Yusuke's body remained intact after he got run over was so ridiculous! This is a story about demons and supernatural stuff, fine, but I can't just suspend my disbelief at that.
Honestly they should just go with Saint Beast arc. Episode 1 : Setup background story of Yusuke, Botan, Keiko, Kuwabara. Episode 2 : Introduce Hiei and Kurama. Yusuke and Kuwabara qualification for training. Episode 3 : Yusuke and Kuwabara training . Sent to mission against The Saint Beast. Episode 4 : Full battle Episode 5: Battle and final. Yusuke granted title as Ghost Detective and teasing Yukina. Saint Beast do not need build up or anything, they just need acting as a bad guys.
12:35 I hate this version of Yusuke, they made him a corny edge lord that only have one emotion which is anger.. they fail to remember that Yusuke is a goofball who despite being a delinquent is a genuinely good person.. not to mention in the original, Yusuke loves to fight and take on challenges but the Netflix version is forced to fight which he seems annoyed by it, that in return makes me annoyed by him being forced to fight aswell..
"The show guts everything resembling narrative impact from the original and we don't get to know any of the characters because there's no room to breathe, 6/10" has some real IGN review score energy to it.
@@dudejoe24I'm not talking about how IGN reviews live-action content. It's the general sentiment, especially in their game reviews, of forgetting that half of the 1-10 scale exists. Which leads to stuff like discussing how this show is a terribly paced, empty, and often terrible looking mess and then giving it a score that means it's "okay".
I don't have any nostalgia for the series but did like watching it. I just feel like it was rushing though a compilation of events. Looks good but missing a heart to the characters. Like everyone was half of what they were in the show. I can excuse the Bleach Live Action because they had a movie, which should have been around 2.5 hours not a bit over 1.5 hours. I liked the Bleach Live Action for its fault but something about this just felt off. Kurabara just accepts the spirit world but I don't think Him and Botan ever really spoke to each other. Hei and Yusuke way to stoic. Also they missed the point of the reason why Yusuke saved the kid and importantance to his character. I feel like 5 episodes was too short for what they were doing, but had they reworked it for better pacing and character interaction would have worked. Liked the idea of EIther just having Mei Castle/Saint Beast Arc and have Togure hint at the end or just do Genkai tournament and at the end Genki talks about her past and Yusuke needing to prepare for the dark tournament.
It's season 1 and they put in the Doctor's bugs in there.. There's already a tournament, they killed the billionaire sponsors of the dark tournament, they already killed toguro... Man, it's like they already anticipated this show is going nowhere and would only have 1 season.. It's sad coz i really want more.
I really thought the toguro fight was gonna end with a spirit gun team up with kuwabara like in the first fight, having that moment would have really gone a long way considering kuwabara doesnt really get any kind of moment where he wins and thats just sad.
Don't worry, guys. When opening a portal to a demon realm, you don't actually have to SPEND your money on research and development in order to make it happen. You just have to BE IN POSSESSION of the money and then it just happens.
Well it just checks out that if capitalism is the devil then having the high score for money means you can will open a hole to the demon world. This story is layered with metaphor and nuance.
@@GigaBoots If we give them the benefit of the doubt that that's what they meant, yeah, that's clever. Unfortunately, just speaking for myself, I don't actually think they were that clever and instead that they just straight up forgot to write a step.

I say the show was alright for anime adaptation. I just feel like all the criticism you have is based on being a fan already. The way I see it, if Netflix had paced it slower, the 1st season would have been lacking for a new audience. Being frank, they would have spent the same budget, but with no interest in people watching besides hard-core fans. Most likely, they did what they did for 2 reasons: 1. Hook a new audience by showing off the action aspect of the show. 2. Give anime/manga fans their fill in case the show doesn't get a season 2. They did the same for One Piece ( put multiple arcs in the season), but not to the extent they did it here. Maybe they understood that One Piece has a large global audience who is willing to watch multiple seasons, while YuYu is a more obscure watch for non-anime audience. I just enjoy that they didn't differentiate to the point it was a Cowboy Bebop fiasco. They need to hit the sweet point for pacing, but I can't complain about the overall project.
I feel like the big difference between this and one piece live action is that we didn't complete rush things they actually build up and have time for us to get to know ow the characters and with multiple 2 parts that slowly build up to one big pay off in the final episode while still leaving room for more especially since they even teased future arcs while this one rushed and skipped so many arcs to the point t they would only have 2 arcs to adapt or Franken Stine other arcs o feel like this was the later thing you mentioned when where they made a thing where they made thing only hard core fans would know but no one else
I live in fear that there will one day be a Netflix adaptation Ah My Goddess. There's noway they wouldn't fuck it up in some mean spirited way that misrepresented situation of the story.
Very much appreciate the midi opening to this spoilercast Edit: Dear fucking god, they could have just ONLY done a single arc and people would have thought better of it. Jumping from the 3 demon artifacts to Sensui and Toguro in only five episodes is guaranteed disaster. I did well to avoid everything about this

Dude I soo agree with you guys and hearing you was hilarious. I'm a huge Yu Yu Hakusho fan and while I would love a live action to completely follow everything from the anime I understand that's not possible and they need to alter things. However, skipping/mashing together all these arcs was awful. Like you get none of the emotion or importance behind any of these scenes. I tried to think of watching it as if I knew nothing about the series. And while okay it was cool to look at, I would not have understand the importance of the spirit wave orb or the intesity of the fights and the power scaling, nor would it have mattered to me that Genkai died. Like we saw her for 5min. If it was advertised as cool live action scenes from the anime/manga instead of a series then I would have liked it more. Or if they actually did any character building to make me feel emotions other than ooh that was cool. Anyways sorry for my rant but I went into this with an open mind and was extremely disappointed.
