I don't have a speech impediment but I feel like it would be so valid to say "I have a speech impediment." And leave it at that. If they feel bad after hearing that maybe they should.. maybe they were kind of intrusive in the way they asked and should think about it.
It happens to me as well but I don't have a speech impediment. I have autism which makes me talk weird. Maybe I should start saying I have a speech impediment.
@em84c just remember you don't owe strangers anything. Whatever you feel more comfortable with is best for you. Just don't care too much about what others might feel. It's about you!
It's also so strange how the people he encountered seemed to not understand that accents happen because your first language has different phonetics. You don't have to be "from" somewhere to have an accent. All it takes is just your parents using their native tongue at home. When you ask someone where they're from because you think they have an accent and they say Nebraska you leave it at that. I'm sensing that the further questioning with "but where are you *really* from?" comes from awkwardness and them realising that the question is intrusive in itself. I don't have a speech impediment but I used to have an accent and I hated that question so much. Although it is funny to make them guess. Because my first language is Russian but I'm from Central Asia. People always try guessing some East Asian or South East Asian country based on how I look. And when I just repeat "wrong" at every attempt it becomes more and more awkward for them. And then we learn a big ol' painful lesson on racismTM or something in the end lol
My son has a very similar impediment so I knew what Jacobs voice was from. My son's 9 and about to start speech therapy. I like watching Jacobs videos in front of him so he can hear someone else that sounds like him! Why representation matters. 💙
My son has a speech impediment and is in speech therapy (he's 4). I don't hear his speech impediment unless I'm specifically listening for it, but most people can barely understand him. I think when you listen to a person a lot, your brain just adapts to their speech patterns so you can understand them. I truly don't notice Jacob's speech impediment most of the time. I don't think it's because I'm an amazing person or anything, I think it's just because the human brain is great at understanding other people's speech patterns.
Thank you for uploading today. I am very sad from the results of the election as a PR single 30 yo woman but I laughed and found some optimism after watching. Keep it up
I'm Asian and not American. So I ask this: But honestly, why? Calling PR a trash island isn't far from the truth when PR has a trash problem...openly...that people joke about. It was a roast comedian who was roasting. You remember what comedy is, right? It seems that it's very easy for people to say "White people so ____" or "America is so____" yet when people turn around and say something about PR it's suddenly bad? If something is off limits, everything is off limits and people need to stop saying negative things about EVERYONE, including white people and America. You're not in any danger. At all. You're not going to have your "rights" taken away from you. It's quite amazing to watch people be so brainwashed by main stream media. Americans have become quite overly sensitive, to use it as a cudgel to cry "oppression". It would seem that if the left doesn't want to feel uncomfortable in society, they should stop the spiteful rhetoric towards everyone else. The left is hideously racist and bigoted towards people who don't agree with them, yet I've found American conservatives to be very welcoming and have a sense of humor.
Speaking of lying to strangers, one time I got my hair done with a new stylist and decided that I was going to pretend that I had a twin. The entire hour and a half appointment I made up a completely different life story about my twin and I. I felt like such a fraud! Halfway through it, I think she started to find some cracks in my story, but I was already committed and couldn’t bare to tell her that I was actually lying the entire time 😅 & to top it off, my hair ended up looking terrible lol
The strongest part of Jacob's impediment seems to be the pronunciation of "r" sounds. I had the same thing as a child (pronounced my rs very similar to how Jacob does). It is actually the most common speech impediment, especially for children. Most grow out of it naturally. My parents put me in speech therapy and that helped me figure out how to pronounce them. But there are still certain words that other people seem fine with but are difficult for me to get my mouth around hah. I can't believe people think it's an accent..... doesn't sound like an accent at all, just sounds like his unique way of speaking and pronouncing words.
Yeah it's kinda crazy, like are all these people who think he has an accent totally unfamiliar with one of the most common speech impediments? What accent sounds like that?
@bananawitchcraft ... just watched their next episode and apparently even Lucas didn't know it was a thing, and that's his own brother.. 🫠😅 .. Lucas said he thought Jacob's voice sounded ... British.... ????? 🫠 ha okayyy
Was about to write the same and then found your comment. I agree; I remember many of my classmates pronouncing it the same way. Easy fix for a speech therapist.
I immediately watched one of your other videos when I woke up this morning, I didn't wanna watch the news. Thanks for sharing about your speech, must be frustrating at times how people react.
I love your voice Jacob it's all part of your Nebraskan vibe! Also please never stop making these videos again they're getting me through these rough days
The speech impediment thing is crazy to me cause I remember discovering Jacob’s channel and literally subscribing just because of his voice. I could listen all day it’s so cute 😫 people need to go outside more!
When I was in high school, I became friends with a new group of people and I’m kind of socially inept so I didn’t realize when I met somebody who had rhotacism that it was a speech impediment, and I asked her where she was from and that I loved her accent, and her other friends stepped up and aggressively said ITS A SPEECH IMPEDIMENT because I’m pretty sure she thought I was just trying to be mean and I was not. I didn’t know what rhotacism was.
As someone who grew up with a speech impediment, I can say it was normal for me to be asked on the first day of school if I’m British. I was always like haha no and brushed past it, because I too didn’t want to make them feel bad for pointing out my speech impediment lol
Ah! I have a speech impediment, likely due to my autism, and I find it quite intrusive for people to ask about the way I talk (and yes, they often assume it's an accent.) I know it's just curiosity and they think they're making conversation, but it makes me even more self-conscious about my speech when people fixate on it.
Work on building up your confidence surrounding your voice, and just tell those people “it’s my autism accent!” Like another girl suggesting on here. Sure, people might act embarrassed, but that isn’t on you..that is on them. They need the confidence to not be embarrassed and the confidence to say something kind like “well, Ali find your voice to be very unique and beautiful.” Which can be very hard to do when we are embarrassed (for anybody!) but when we take control of a situation with confidence we are pushing past our comfort zone, which always helps us grow as people! Plus, it puts the ball in your court in the social interaction, which pushes others to challenge themselves to respond in a better way. All of us struggle in these types of social interactions, and that’s okay! It’s but a blip in time in the long scheme of things! I hope you learn to love all of the things that make you you! And trust me, we fixate on our quirks *FAR MORE* than anybody else does! Everybody else is busy worried about their own things..they just might be better at hiding it or they have things that are more invisible/less tangible that they are dealing with. 💓💗🩷❤️
I'm an immigrant - have been for 15 years now, and people used to ask me that question A LOT. I was a teenager already traumatised with my whole situation and I loathed to be singled out. Now I don't have an accent anymore and when people learn I'm not originally from here they get all surprised asking where my accent went lol like leave me alone. And I know most people don't do that with bad intentions but it's just a very awkward conversation starter that even when I tried to be friendly never ended up becoming actually interesting.
@@glupik1234 Haha it totally makes sense how those kind of questions would get annoying! Your speaking mannerisms are natural to you so your former accent or lack of it are probably very dull subjects to talk about on your end. I understand that people are making small talk, but I would much rather chat about the weather than be obligated to give an explanation for how I speak to a complete stranger.

Covid make people even more tactless because everyone was afraid I was sick. You can be a dick to them if you feel like they are being an ass Jacob ❤
I don’t think people think Jacob is from another country, I think they are expecting that he’ll respond something like Boston or somewhere in Massachusetts (even though I don’t think he sounds like he is from there, but people who don’t know accents well would probably assume something along those lines because he definitely sounds American). Not many people seem to know much about speech impediments unless they knew somebody in real life with some kind of speech impediment.
speech impediment baddie here, yeah I get asked many times where I'm from. I'm Scottish and people think I'm American or Irish, I've started just doing the funny laugh shrug too. maybe we should all band together and create our own country to tell ppl??
I don't have a speech impediment but I talk weird because I have autism. I am always getting asked what country Im from when I was born in the city I live (and Im white). I'm not gonna lie them talking about Macklemore was funny cause they first thought Minnesota then said "actually I think he's from California" When he's from Seattle and went to college in Santa Fe, CA (where he said he really got good at rapping) made me lol at least.
I spoke like Jacob as a child and took years of speech therapy. I still have to concentrate on saying “r” and I’m 64 years old. Somehow it fits him and his personality. They both seem like great guys.
My cousin had the same speech impediment, so I always thought the assumptions people would make about Jacob's voice were silly. I think my cousin did speech therapy, because their's vitually disappeared over some time. I was really surprised because I thought it would never. Can't imagine Jacob without his though; I see it as an interesting trait that just adds to his character.
Longtime listener, first time caller! @15:30 Puke and Rally is as old as time. While modern myth tells us that the Roman elite had dedicated rooms in their homes in which to PNR, it was in fact not so common as to have a space dedicated to it. Assuming that rates of bulimia are constant, as a result of being a disease which is probably inherent in the human species irrespective of era, there are still examples of them PNRing. As a matter of fact, Hadrian (a more successful wall builder than our once and future imperator) was supposed to use a feather to tickle the back of his throat to induce the first step of PNR. Whether this had more to do with Hadrian having just been served braised dromedary heel or parrot-tongue pie rather than having had three too many Jaegerbombs at brunch is up for debate.
Thank you guys. I need this distraction. I’m an AFAB nonbinary person with a trans femme partner and times just feel extra disgusting and scary. Thank you.
When I first started watching these two I did question if it was a kind of character choice, and I wasn't sure how to feel about it. I hope that doesn't offend anyone, but the first few videos I watched were over the top and delightfully campy, so it did seem imposed. However the more I watched it became clear, and the more I found it charming. Now I feel like it adds to the appeal of his overall personality. Extreme Cutie. 😘
Have I been curious about your voice a bit? Yes, did it matter? Honestly no, I find it very charming and I can tell it's not just an act. You're being you and I love that! I also actually find the voice/way jacob speaks is really cute 😍 the first video I watch of his I was smitten.

Lucas have you seen people on TikTok dressing up as Fred for Halloween ?? 🤣🤣 love it
My cousin had the same speech impediment, so I always thought the assumptions people would make about Jacob's voice were silly. I think my cousin did speech therapy, because their's vitually disappeared over some time. I was really surprised because I thought it would never. Can't imagine Jacob without his though; I see it as an interesting trait that just adds to his character.
I love u guys so much I didn’t even know you had a podcast pls never stop
Thank you.
Personally I love Jacob’s way of speaking and I often repeat the way he says things because he makes words sound so much more fun and whimsical!
Ive gotten use to Jacobs voice and i think it actually makes him more unique. I like his voice. It adds to his charm ❤
i love jacob’s accent tho
Jacob's Accent has never sounded anything but American to me. He sounds like an Americann with a speech impediment
Just fyi bros-for primaries you can only vote for the candidate of the party you belong to. That’s why you couldn’t
I have been an audio listener for a while now and why are Lucas and Jacob slowly morphing into the same person visually
I love your voice Jacob! I could listen to both of you guys every day... wait! I actually do!!!
The thumbnail 😂 yall are so unserious and i love it
Have I been curious about your voice a bit? Yes, did it matter? Honestly no, I find it very charming and I can tell it's not just an act. You're being you and I love that! I also actually find the voice/way jacob speaks is really cute 😍 the first video I watch of his I was smitten.
Ur voice is iconic, love u bros
