A few days ago I had absolutely no idea who either of you are (I'm 51 so def not your demo), then came across Jacob's restaurant/food/hotel reviews and am hooked lol. You two are such a delight and your videos are perfect for playing while I work my ultra stressful job - so pleased to watch something recent, I'm pretty sure I've been watching mostly videos from 2021 lol. i'm really considering mortuary school and have toyed around with the idea since i was a kid but the combo of the pay and fear of smells and textures is what holds me back. if either factors were different i would do it in a heartbeat. what made you want to finally get into it?
I am soooo glad you guys are back! I'm currently in school to be a mortician. We ask the family for several photographs, so we can see what they looked like in life and try our best to recreate that. The family typically chooses what clothes they wear in the casket. The point overall is to help the friends and family grieve. Some cemeteries have graves that are centuries old, I don't think they throw any bodies out but of course, eventually, they completely decompose. Cremation is more popular these days. The cheaper legal option is direct cremation without a viewing. Burial is always more expensive. There are things like filing death certificates and submitting vital statistics to the state (think death rates, how often do people die of cancer, etc) that are the morticians job that most people dont think about but all of those things go into the overall cost.
Piggybacking off this response as someone who currently works at a funeral home!! Just wanna let you guys know people get cremated separately!! They also have metal ID tag and the chain of custody is kept to ensure it's the correct person. Much different from how pets are cremated (which can be either separate/private or as a group but spaced out). I loved this part though, it made me giggle quite a bit
I have a question, I have green eyes and i kinda think it would be cool to preserve my eyes after death as like a lil decoration. I tried to find info on it but it didn’t look too possible, do you know anything about that? Like if it’s possible
@@kaleyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy as far as I know, I've never heard of anything like that. Usually it's just ocular/tissue/organ donations if you qualify, but honestly it also depends on your family members and if they want to keep your lil peepers to begin with. I think it's a neat idea, creepy cool kinda thing

It's so crazy thinking about how different my life is now than it was back when the podcast was first airing. I used to come home late tired after my shift working a retail job and watch the pod before bed that always cheered me up. I was single, no friends, didn't really have anyone, didn't really know what direction to take in life. Since then I graduated business school, am working on starting my own business that is launching soon, found some amazing besties, grown closer than ever before with my family, and found a beautiful boyfriend that I love with all my heart. I'm excited for the pod to join me on this new journey!

I have family in the funeral business and all of the services are connected and sometimes happen in the same building. I’ve even inside of a morgue before!! No dead bodies present obviously when I was in there but saw some of the tools, head supports, face shavers etc. My dad said he felt a ghost in that particular one once… i I have heard lots of crazy stories in regards to funerals so had a lot of fun listening to y’all try and piece that world together. Glad to have y’all back!!
No to be too morbid but when my dad died suddenly he was embalmed for the wake and then cremated. It helped us be able to say goodbye to him one last time so that’s why a lot of people choose to embalm.
