Do you honestly think Gene thought DECADES LATER he would be the best part of some of our weeks? Watching him do his thing!!! RIP Gene. Truly made the world a happier place!!!
The world needs Gene now. Wouldn’t it be great if every time there was an altercation of any kind outta nowhere the music would start playing and Gene would appear with the dance. Everyone would stop fighting and go home happy. Miss that guy.
My entire family would run to the tv when the Gene theme started. Jeez, we would go into a frenzy sometimes. Breaking lamps and shit, LOL. Even in the summer, my Mom would yell out the window to me and my sisters and friends "GENE GENE IS ON!!!!!!" and we'd fly into my living room, having the best times ever. I'm 54 now and a lot of my family and old friends are gone already. I'm very grateful for these clips. VERY grateful.
My buddy and I watched The Gong show every time it was on. We were in high school at the time. Jaye P Morgan was my fantasy woman. I had the biggest crush on her.
Same here my friend! My buddy and I were junior’s in HS and couldn’t wait to here the theme of Gene starting, We would go out of our minds dancing the same way. Bless you my friend!
Gene Gene The Dancing Machine was a big part of my childhood! I remember when I used to watch the Gong Show On T.V. and each time I saw Gene Gene the dancing machine dance on stage I would go crazy and then I would jump off the couch and dance in front of the television !! He was a trip!! my favorite character on the Gong Show.
From Heaven. Almost Live! It's Mr. Gene Patton!!! God rest you, Gene-Gene & God bless Chuckie Baby for all those good memories. I wonder if either of them know how much they made people smile every day? I hope so, 'cause they sure did!
@@chestermarcol3831 i’m so glad some people didn’t get this show, it meant there was more for us. everybody on the Gong Show gave what they had, the spontaneous eruptions are priceless, the hokey talent all of it pure
My college friends and I always planned our class schedules so we could be together to watch "The Gong Show" each day, and whenever we'd start to hear that piano riff signaling it was time for our guy Gene Gene to hit the stage, we were all borderline hysterical with glee. Gene and Chuck brought an incredible amount of silliness and fun to us all, and we could sure use some of that these days.
When I was a kid, this was the main reason I was watching this. I was too young to understand the comedians and most of the jokes involved. Every night I waited for Gene Gene's music to start and then I'd start dancing around the living room.
He’s just as excited and surprised to see Gene EVERY TIME! I have spent hours today watching these and haven’t laughed this hard in years. My kid is embarrassed for me! 😆
The grace of Fred Astaire...choreography better than Bob Fosse...originality that surpasses Alvin Ailey...production that dwarfs A Chorus Line...power greater than The Bolshoi. This is dance at it's highest level. It will never be matched....ever.
How can not smile watching that! Everyone, including the audience, has left their daily problems at the door and joined in to just have fun. The Gong show always reminded me of a college frat party without the booze.
Brilliant, a definite connection with its audience. It was like a frat party on afternoon tv. Chuckie babie really one upped his Palisades Park debut into entertainment.
This was when even mindless stuff was fun. The pop when you heard this song drop and the audience just started flicking off. Truly back during the age of innocence 🤣🤣🤣
Great memories! RIP Chuck. Back in the days when even a show like this put out the effort and had a live orchestra. For those who may ask, the tune is Count Basie's Jumping at the Woodside!
Barris also used Count Basie's "Fantail" on "The Dating Game" during its run in the sixties and early seventies on ABC. It played when Jim Lange introduced the three bachelors (or, occasionally, three bachelorettes).
I couldn't guess the song! ♫ The closest I got was "Take the 'A' Train!" Thanks, it was bugging me. (RIP Gene.) Times were simpler, eh? It's hard not to smile even though it's kinda silly.. :-D)
Gene's tune was Count Basie 's "Jumpin' at the Woodside", He was an NBC stagehand who in time became effectively Chuck Barris # 2. Milton De Lugg's "Band of Thugs", often sounded a lot like the Tijuana Brass. He always started up this one in near-stealth fashion, building his volume gradually.
There’s a bunch of Gene Gene clips but this is the only one that shows the audience. Everyone was so psyched. They had all been hoping Gene would be in that day. Magic. Them was the dayz
This had to have been after the Jaye P. Morgan flashing episode, as the cameras are trained more on the audience than the judges' table. But you still see Jamie Farr (getting down pretty good himself) & the judges making it through the audience back on stage.
Now THIS was entertainment!! And funny....oh how I miss just watching a show and just feeling good while being able to laugh! We have come a long way since then, and I don't think it's been in the right direction..... I loved the Unknown Comic, Jaye P Morgan and always looked forward to Gene Gene the Dancin' machine! He was my favorite! I miss this!
I feel as though I seen Gene Gene The Dancing Machine dance a hundred times and I cracked up each time like it was the first and YES we did the dance as well!!
From Wikipedia... Eugene Sidney Patton Sr. (April 25, 1932 - March 9, 2015), also known as Gene Patton[2] and more widely known by his stage name "Gene Gene the Dancing Machine", was a television personality, dancer and stagehand who worked at NBC Studios in Burbank, California. Patton's claim to fame was from his various appearances on the network's talent search game show, The Gong Show. In addition to his stage duties, Patton was one of several amateur performers who would warm up and entertain the audience during commercial breaks. Host Chuck Barris found him so entertaining that he had him dance on the show on-air, and he proved so popular that he soon became a recurring act, then an occasional judge. The genial Patton usually wore the same outfit each time he appeared, which consisted of a green sweater jacket, a flat cap, bell-bottomed slacks, and sneakers. After The Gong Show: Patton appeared in The Gong Show Movie, which was released in 1980. He had some dialogue in the film. Patton worked as a stagehand on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and appeared on screen in at least two episodes. Once on June 20, 1984, as part of Johnny's soap opera parody, in which Johnny refers to him as "Buford Styversen, Sludge Falls' only blues singer", and once on March 12, 1986, in which he played a general. Patton appeared on the November 3, 1993 episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien doing his trademark shuffle during an interview with Barris. Patton had a cameo as himself in the film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,[2] which was based on Barris' autobiography. Patton lost both legs due to complications from diabetes in 2001. He wore prostheses and walked with a cane." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Gene_the_Dancing_Machine#After_The_Gong_Show
The sheer joyful absurdity of this show will never be matched. Just a sublime celebraton of weird television, accompanied by overt recreational drug use. It actually might be the high water mark of broadcast television forever. The GOAT...

Gene was definitely the highlight of the show.

How come we don't have quality programming like this any more....when it was cool to celebrate the sheer joy of life? RIP Gene.
The gong show was the best I loved the gene gene dancing machine got stoned while watching it
Amen
Leftwing politics and leftwinger actuvists and ideologies have destroyed t.v and everything else.
Because the left and snowflakes ❄️ of today would have a cow
They did bring it back. But it wants nothing like this
Mindless fun...and it was great!
RIP Chuck, you were a genius in your time. Thanx for the memories
It’s amazing to think how beloved Gene Gene the Dancing Machine truly was. He was a great guy.
The second the piano started playing I - and the whole crowd - would go nuts. God bless you Gene. Thank you for giving so much joy to so many of us.
The Gong Show was so much fun. I still kid about Gene. RIP Gene. You gave us more than you realize.

Having memories as a kid when Gene Gene came on tv I would get the whole family to come and we all start dancing.
One of my favorite shows ever
The most fun you could have in thirty minutes.
I hope you are still dancing, Gene Gene The Dancing Machine. Peace to you.
Really love this. I miss this era of tv. Watching this makes me feel good all over!
Why am I crying,,,,,,,because gene was the best

Gene was a huge contributor to the fun vibe of the Gong Show! I love Chuck’s intro & how he totally got into it - this show was fantastic!!
Chuck Barris is hilarious when Gens music starts playing, and when he calls out Gens name

This makes me as happy now as it did 45 years ago. Love it!
Gene Gene the Dancing Machine's appearances were, and always will be, the best live TV show segments EVER. We'll never see anything like them again.
And we all got up and danced with him. Good times. :)

The Gong Show was pure entertainment and happiness on steroids. It was way too good for network TV.

HI the name of the song is " Jumpin' at the Woodside" by Count Basie.
I believe it's a combination of Jumpin' at the Woodside and Two O'clock Jump--cleverly put together by Milton De Lugg.
With the Count!
He's dancing in heaven now.

That show was complete chaos, entertaining and totally funny. It makes me laugh out loud today.
Gene, Gene was a no dancing mofo!!!
