    One of the saddest scenes in NASCAR history was seeing Alan Kulwicki's trailer coming onto the track and taking the checkered flag.

      Indeed. I remember it raining during that. Almost like even God himself was shedding tears.

    1993 was the most brutal year in NASCAR's history. This was the start of it. It would only get worse a few months later.

      yup Davey Allison expressing his thought over losing a friend, no one would ever believe he'd join Alan up above just three and a half months later. At least both champion are up above and presumably Alan has taken a crack at fishing alongside Dale and Davey.

    What a difference 12 months can make. At this time in 1992 everyone was wondering who could beat the Fords. Yet by this race in 1993, Ford had only won once and it was basically the Chevrolet and Pontiac show.

    Amazing how much different Bristol looked back in the early to mid 1990’s.

    When I first got into Nascar I was a AK and Davey Allison fan. When they both died my interest in Nascar had died along with them at the time. I didn't starting following Nascar again til like 3yrs later.

    My Alan Kulwicki story.... I’m a Milwaukee area native whose family lived between the Milwaukee Mile and a 1/4 mile dirt track called Hales Corners raceway. My dad met Mr. Kulwicki at a college class and they hit it off straightaway due to their shared love of Motorsport. Anyhow, long story short, Mr. Kulwicki dirt car he raced at Hales in 75/76 ended up in our garage at our new county home. I was 13 and very tall,skinny,shy in a subdivision that had a lot of tough guy kids. Once the word got out that the 97 was in our garage....well, let’s just say I went from not making many friends to having too many friends lol

      My dad and mom went to Willie Goedens Christmas party as my dad pit crewed for Marv Zoom Zoom Zuedema at Slinger. I remember HC. Anyways I was a little shit and the party was no place for a baby. My little connection to this man was that he showed up to Willies party, talked to my dad for some time. He was more chatty and went out and partied when he was at local level. Nascar....all biz

    Losing Alan, Davey, and Neil in the space of less than a year is NASCAR's darkest hour. To me, anyway.

    How cool it would have been if Alan Kulwicki had lived, retired from racing and hired fellow Wisconsin native Matt Kenseth in the future

    This weekend changed NASCAR. Kulwicki would've been a big factor at least until 1996, maybe 1998. That's a whole lot of seasons that Alan could've changed somehow. Different winners, different battles, maybe even different champions. Maybe Dale Sr. wouldn't have gotten the 7th or could've done it in some other year; maybe Gordon wouldn't have been a 4-time champion, maybe...

      Most surely if he hadn't done it himself, Alan would have built that team into a powerhouse following his retirement, considering his work ethic and attention to detail. I would bet his teams would have challenged the likes of Childress, Hendrick, Gibbs, and Roush for years to come.

      There is a interview with Dale on here (Tried to look for it, can't find it at the moment.) Where he says (If I remember correctly.) that if Alan and Davy would have lived he probably wouldn't have a few of the championships that he got.

      Lot's of what ifs from the early 90s in NASCAR. Davey Allison died later that year too, Ernie Irvan was leading the 94 points standings before getting seriously injured. Kulwicki reminded me of Terry Labonte, not a hard charger, but always up front and in contention near the end and Labonte won 2 championships 12 years apart, who knows how many Kulwicki would have won, there was a definite vacuum of talent in the mid 90s, Allison and Kulwickis untimely deaths and Irvans injury.

    • @sevendst19
      @sevendst19 7 лет назад +1

      I guess Irvan was 2nd in points when he was injured by 27 points, he was leading the standings most of that year though but lost the lead after a bad run at the brickyard 400.

    I was at this race, it was the quietest race I ever listened to on a scanner, no driver talked and if they did, they were on high edge, nobody wanted to be here.

    What was the Bible verse at
    50:35 that Bob read?

    • @faithful2thecall
      @faithful2thecall 10 месяцев назад

      Maybe you've found the answer by now, but I'll answer just in case. That's actually a pair of Bible verses separated by a mere "and." The first ("I will lift mine eyes...") is Psalm 121:1 and the second ("and we know all things...") is Romans 8:28. I'm not sure which Bible translation he was using.

    On April 5, 1993, the 1993 Food City 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway became the saddest race of the 13th year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television that was caused by the death of the 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup Series in Winston America Champion Alan Kulwicki, who owned and drove the Hooters-sponsored #7 Ford Thunderbird. The darkest moment of the 1993 NASCAR Winston Cup Series in Winston America season was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired live, nationwide, and via satellite on the GMA Rainbow Satellite Television Network with a Radio Simulcast over DZBB 594 Radyo Bisig Bayan and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM

      Sometimes they'll do a full run-through of the opening portion of the broadcast as a practice run, then they do it all again when they're on-air.
